Matching Hearts Tie Dye Backpack and Pencil Case

Matching Hearts Tie Dye Backpack and Pencil Case

Published Date: August 05, 2021 Back to school means back to cool style for the year ahead! Before you hit the books, Oh Yay Studio will give you some A+ ideas for upgrading your backpack and pencil case with total tie-dye love from the Tulip Hearts One-Step Tie-Dye Kit. Supplies needed - Tulip Hearts One-Step Tie-Dye Kit - 100% canvas backpack and pencil pouches – white - Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue - Wire rack - Plastic tub to set rack on - Iron - Plastic wrap or large plastic bags - Protective plastic surface cover Instructions Wash, dry and iron backpack and pencil case Draw hearts on backpack Use the washable marker that comes in your Hearts Tie-Dye Kit to draw hearts all over the backpack. You can use a ruler to help you plot out even spacing, or just wing it! Fill in hearts with glue After you’ve drawn the hearts, begin filling them in with glue to create the tie-dye resist. Apply the glue generously so it completely covers the heart, but not so much that it seeps outside of the lines. Tip: Practice first on scratch paper or scrap fabric to get the hang of it! Repeat on pencil case Repeat on the pencil case if you want to create the same pattern as the backpack. Then let the glue dry COMPLETELY before tie dyeing. Draw a half heart shape along the fold Another option you can use for the pencil case is the traditional heart tie-dye technique. Fold the case in half and use the washable marker to draw a half heart shape along the fold of the case. Pleat and secure case along the marker line Next pleat the case along the marker line, doing your best to stay with the line so it appears straight over the tops of the pleats. Secure it with a rubber band at the marker line. Continue wrapping another rubber band or two around the case after the first rubber band. Scrunch and secure backpack Once the glue has completely dried, now it’s time to begin scrunching the backpack and securing with rubber bands. Make sure the zipper is closed, and do your best to scrunch up and secure the straps too. Tip: Leave some heart areas un-scrunched because you want the glue resist to do its job so you can really see the heart shapes after the bag has been tie dyed. Dampen projects and place on rack Repeat with the pencil case, then dampen each project and place on a wire rack over a bin. (The bin will catch the dye runoff so your projects don’t sit in pools of dye, making the colors muddy.) Add water to mix dyes Add water to the dye bottles and shake to mix. You can use all colors in your kit or just a few, depending on how much color variation you want on your projects! Apply dyes to all sides of projects Finally! It’s time to tie dye! Apply the dyes however you like on the backpack and case(s). Make sure to rotate each as you are applying the dyes so you cover all sides and angles. Let set for 6 to 8 hours After you’ve covered each project in tie dye, wrap in plastic or place each in a plastic bag to keep them damp while the dye processes for 6 to 8 hours or overnight for brightest results. Cut rubber bands off after dye has set After the tie dye has set, cut off the rubber bands from each project. Rinse projects under running water Rinse each thoroughly under running water to remove excess dye. Soak in warm water to remove glue For the projects using glue resist, fill your sink or a bin with very warm water, using enough water to be able to submerge the bag/pencil case entirely. Allow to soak at least 30 minutes for the glue to soften, then use your fingers to help rub away the glue. Repeat soaking and working the glue off of the fabric until all has been removed. Then hang the bag to dry! Tie-Dye Backpack and Pencil Cases Now you’re ready to tote those books and binders in a vibrant heart tie-dye backpack you’ll love all year long! Reverse Tie Dye Sweatshirt

DIY Colorful Reverse Tie Dye Sweatshirt

Tie dye isn’t just for fashionable summer fun; we’re all about it for fall too! Mikyla Creates will inspire you to combine Tulip Reverse Tie Dye with your favorite One-Step Tie-Dye Kit so you’re ready to cozy up in color when cooler weather arrives. What you need: - Tulip Reverse Tie-Dye Kit - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Sweatshirt - Plastic table cover - Sealable plastic bag Before getting started on your reverse tie dye, prewash and dry your sweatshirt without fabric softener. You’ll want to do this especially if the sweatshirt is new, so the chemical called “sizing” washes away. (It can prevent the Color Changer from absorbing into the fabric.) Lay out your dry sweatshirt on a covered work surface and start scrunching the fabric together. Use rubber bands to help tightly crumple the fabric and hold it in place. Flip the sweatshirt over and repeat on the back side with additional rubber bands. This will give you lots of cool crumple patterns in the fabric. Follow instructions for activating the Color Changer with water. Apply Color Changer onto the scrunched sweatshirt, working the tip of the bottle into the folds. Repeat on the backside. Note: If you’re going to be touching the fabric as you work with the Color Changer, make sure to wear the protective gloves that come in your kit. Allow the Color Changer to process on your project until the desired amount of color is removed. Check it regularly as the Color Changer processes. Then, wearing gloves, remove the rubber bands and thoroughly rinse your sweatshirt. Optional: Lay the damp sweatshirt out flat on your work surface and apply additional Color Changer for added reverse tie-dye effects! If you want to skip this step, wash your sweatshirt according to instructions after removing the rubber bands and rinsing. Rinse and wash the sweatshirt after your desired amount of color removal, then lay the damp sweatshirt out on your covered work surface for adding tie dye. For added crumple effects, scrunch the sweatshirt again, then mix and apply your favorite dye colors! Place in a sealable plastic bag and allow the dye to process for the time recommended in your kit. After the dye processes, rinse, wash and dry according to instructions. And now you’re ready to cozy up in colorful reverse tie dye when cooler weather hits! How will you be using Tulip Reverse Tie Dye this fall and winter? Creative Outdoor Activities for Kids

Creative Outdoor Activities for Kids

Summertime is the perfect time for outdoor activities of all kinds! Whether you’re looking for fun ways to keep your kiddos occupied or you’re throwing a party and need game ideas, Beijos Events has you covered. Check out these kind-friendly DIYs and get inspired to throw a backyard party full of colorful summer fun! What you need: - Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paints of choice - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kits of choice - Canvases & paintbrushes - Easels (optional) - White 100% cotton T-shirts - Squirt guns - White drop cloth or sheet - Large stencil (paint splatter or shape of choice) You can’t have a party without food! (Well, you can, but we wouldn’t advise it, especially with everyone working up an appetite from all of the fun outdoor activities.) Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paints are permanent, washable and nontoxic, so try splattering bright colors onto cloth napkins for party-time refreshments. Since we’re all about color here, of course we think it’s a great idea to incorporate lots of it into your outdoor activities, including the party table! Get creative with the place settings using Tulip Paints and marbling/paint-pouring techniques on wood letters. This makes a fun party favor for guests too! Tulip Brush-On Paints work on canvas too … so they’re perfect for a fun activity making art! If you have easels (or want to purchase canvas/easel sets for beginners), you can set them up at a separate station outside, but you don’t NEED them for a painting activity. The kids can also place their canvases directly onto the table. For the painting part of your outdoor activities, you can have a specific design for the kids to paint, or let them go wild with creativity and explore their own unique themes! Keep the colorful fun going with outdoor activities involving tie dye! We LOVE this tie-dye squirt gun idea from Beijos Events! Setting up a tie-dye squirt gun station outdoors is super easy. First prep the bottles of One-Step Dye like you normally would, then fill up squirt guns with the dye (1 squirt gun for each dye color). Don’t worry, One-Step Tie Dye is nontoxic! Next dampen the T-shirts and string them up in an area where you don’t mind dyes flying around. Then let the kids have a blast squirting their T-shirts with tie dye! Tip: after the tie-dye activity is done, you can place each T-shirt in a sealable plastic bag to safely store the shirts for mess-free transport home. We’re not done with the outdoor activities just yet! There needs to be a party game too, don’t you think? Create your own Twister®-inspired game with a drop cloth or sheet and Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paints with stencils in any design you like. This is one backyard party game to twist and shout over. You’ll want to bring it out every summer! At the end of these creative outdoor activities, the kids will be all smiles! How are you throwing backyard parties with Tulip Color Products this summer? DIY Rhinestone Sunglasses with Liquid Fusion

DIY Rhinestone Sunglasses with Liquid Fusion

Add some sparkle to your fun in the sun with a little help from Liquid Fusion! In this easy tutorial, Freshly Fuji will show you how to glam up your sunglasses with rhinestones for a pair with love-at-first-sight effects. Grab your glue and get ready to make it a bright, sunshiny day! What you need: - Liquid Fusion Performance Adhesive - Sunglasses - Toothpicks - Crystal rhinestones in assorted sizes - Flower charms (optional) - Rubbing alcohol - Cotton balls - Tweezers - Wood skewers - Paper plate - Votive candleStep 1 We’re loving these fun heart-shaped sunglasses, but you can opt for any shape you like! Liquid Fusion is safe to use – and works great on – a variety of materials. Step 2 Before getting to the glue step, clean your sunglasses with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball to remove any dust, oils or prints that could prevent the glue from properly adhering. Step 3 Next make a custom rhinestone picker! Light your candle and let the wax start to melt and pool. Extinguish the candle and dip the pointed end of your wood skewer into the wax, slowly turning it to coat the entire tip. Remove the skewer and allow the wax to cool and harden. The wax will help you easily pick up rhinestones and transfer them to the sunglasses frame. Step 4 This step is optional, but we think its a cute addition for your frames! Apply Liquid Fusion to the top corner (or where ever you like) and use a toothpick to help smooth it out into an even layer. Press the charms into the glue and adjust if needed. Step 5 Repeat the process to glue charms on the other side. Or you can vary your design and glue them in another spot! Step 6 Working in small sections at a time, apply some Liquid Fusion to the frames and use a toothpick to help smooth it out into an even layer. Touch the tip of your waxed skewer to the top of a rhinestone, pick it up, and place into the glue on the frames. Continue this process, working your way around the frames. Youll likely want to vary the sizes of your rhinestones as you work, so you can cover all exposed areas of the frames. Step 7 Once your frames are covered in glitz and glamour, let them dry and the glue cure completely before wearing. Step 8 Now its time to get out there and shine! Not into rhinestones? You can use this same technique to glue other charms and items onto your sunglasses. Get creative with your customization! Step 9 What other sparkling creations are you making with Liquid Fusion? Rainbow Tie-Dye Paper Wreath

Rainbow Wreath Tie Dye Project for the Home

Tie dye isn’t just for clothing … did you know you can use it on paper too? In this tutorial, Pink and Posey will show you how to use Tulip One-Step Tie Dye on crepe paper to make your own rainbow wreath. It’s a tie-dye project for the home that’ll add extra summery cheer where ever you choose to hang it! What you need: - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - German doublette crepe paper – white - Green floral tape - 18-Gauge Kraft-covered wire - 24-Gauge floral wire - Aleene’s® Clear Gel Tacky Glue - Spray bottle filled with water - Tray - Scissors - Skewer To get started on this project for the home, place the crepe paper on a tray (avoid stretching it out) and spritz it with a spray bottle filled with water to dampen it. Mix your dyes according to the instructions, then begin applying dye to the damp crepe paper. Pink and Posey applied her dyes in rainbow order. You can experiment and apply yours however you like, just keep in mind how the colors will look when they blend together. (You’ll want to place them next to other colors they blend nicely with, instead of creating brown or muddy-looking colors.) Spritz the paper with more water as you go along, and continue adding dyes and misting with water to help the dyes run and blend. Once your paper is entirely covered, set out in the sun to dry completely. Remember not to stretch the paper – it’s supposed to be crumpled! Cut the crepe paper into 2.5” wide strips with the wrinkly lines, or along the grain, running across that shorter length. Like a party streamer! Then fold the strip in half widthwise. Keep folding in half until you are left with a rectangle bundle that is about 3” long. Cut all of the folds on both sides to make lots of individual squares. To make the leaves, cut a square diagonally, corner to corner. Then flip one half over and align with the other along the cut edges to make a kite shape. The grains should run downward and away from the center line. Run a line of Clear Gel Tacky along one of the center edges. Press the other half in place on top of the first, aligning all edges. Open the kite shape again, with the glued edges facing downward. Crease it so it stays open. Trim the outside of the kite shape to make it leaf shaped by rounding off the edges and cleaning up the pointed tip. Cut a 24-gauge wire in half. Run a line of Clear Gel Tacky along the underside of the leaf, on one side of the flap. Press the wire into the glue and fold the flap over to secure it. The wire should sit snug against the middle line of the leaf. Use a skewer to help curl the edges of the leaf back to create dimension. Then gently stretch the middle of the leaf to help give it a cupped shape, and press a wire or other narrow tool along the side of the wire without the seam. This will make it look more like a real vein in a leaf. Repeat this process to create all leaves for the wreath. After all leaves with wires have been created, it’s time to start putting this project for the home all together! Arrange the leaves in color order to determine how you want to arrange them for the wreath. Create your wreath frame by circling the Kraft-covered wire to your desired size. Secure with floral tape. Place one leaf over the floral tape on the frame and wrap the wire around the frame to secure. Place the next leaf overlapping the first, but slightly below. Wrap the wire around the frame. Tip from Pink and Posey: To save time, wrap a wire a few times around the frame, then wrap a few more times with the next wire, and on and on. You can also place two leaves at the same time and wrap together. Keep an eye on spacing so that your leaves are evenly spaced around the entire wreath. Once you have all leaves secured to the frame, trim off any excess wire and fluff the leaves. We love how this bright tie-dye rainbow wreath turned out, don’t you? No-Sew Fringe Clothing DIY with Fabric Glue

No-Sew Fringe Clothing DIY with Fabric Glue

Fringe accents are back in a big way, and we’re all about this fun textured trend. From handbags to denim jackets, shirts and home décor, adding fringe to your fabrics is so easy, and you don’t have to know how to sew to make it happen. In this clothing DIY, Annie Papi will show you how to glue fringe to fabric using the Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Dual-Ended Glue Pen! What you need: - Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Dual-Ended Glue Pen - Button-up shirt or desired fabric item - Fringe trim - Scissors - ClothespinsStep 1 If your fabric item is washable (like clothing), make sure it’s been washed and dried without fabric softener before getting started. You’ll want to ensure that anything that could prevent the glue from properly adhering to the fabric has been washed away! Step 2 This clothing DIY really is as easy as gluing fringe trim onto a shirt, skirt, jacket or other item! Measure and cut the length of fringe trim youll need depending on where you will be gluing it. Annie wanted to run fringe across the entire back of her shirt, as well as along the edges of the front pockets. Step 3 Once you have the fringe cut, simply run a thin line of Fabric Fusion along the top edge of the fringe trim, and press in place on your clothing. Remember, less is more with fabric glue. Too much glue can oversaturate the fabric and cause issues with adhering. You can also use clothespins or sewing pins to help hold the fringe in place as it dries. Step 4 Once the glue dries, your fringe is ready to rock. And thats it for this fringe clothing DIY! Such a simple process that makes a fab fashion statement. Step 5 Annie took her fringe top to the rodeo! How are you accenting your outfits and accessories with fringe and Fabric Fusion? Tag us on social @aleenesdiy and share your clothing DIYs with us!

Glue Resist DIY Tie-Dye Patterns

Glue Resist DIY Tie-Dye Patterns

Published Date: June 14, 2021 We’re always in the mood to try something new with tie dye! Twists and folds are fun, and combining them with a glue resist technique will take your tie dye to the next level. In this easy tutorial, Oh Yay Studio shows you how to use glue to create a resist for DIY tie-dye patterns that combine color with your own creative designs! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Canvas tote bag - Wire rack + plastic bin - Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue - Iron - Pencil - Plastic bag - Spray bottle (optional) Instructions Sketch design on tote with a pencil First you’ll want to decide what kind of DIY tie-dye patterns to create for your resist technique. Iron the tote so you have a nice, smooth surface to lightly sketch your designs on with a pencil. You can even place a design pattern underneath the top layer of the tote to trace over if you don’t feel like free handing it. Apply Tacky Glue over designs Now it’s time to create a resist over your DIY tie-dye patterns. Trace over your sketched designs with Tacky Glue, applying a generous amount (but not SUPER thick so it pools and ruins your designs). You can always practice your glue application on a piece of scratch paper first to get a feel for the glue flow. Let glue dry After you’ve covered over your designs with Tacky Glue, let the tote dry flat until the glue is completely dry. Tacky Glue dries clear Tacky Glue dries clear, so it should look like this. There shouldn’t be any “white” left – that would indicate the glue isn’t dry yet. For the resist technique to work properly, don’t skip this step! Dampen tote and bind with rubber bands Next dampen your tote all over with a spray bottle, then crumple it and bind it with rubber bands. Or, you can leave the tote dry if you want “crisper” DIY tie-dye patterns and less color blending with the dyes. It’s up to you! Then place it on a wire rack over a bin and prep your dye bottles according to instructions. Apply dyes to tote Squeeze the dyes any way you like over the tote! Make sure to rotate the tote bag as you apply the dyes, so you cover it from all different angles. Tip: Use the tip of the dye bottles or your gloved hands to help work the dye into the fabric fibers if needed. After you’ve applied the dyes, place the tote in a plastic bag to keep it damp while the dyes process for 6-8 hours or overnight. Soak tote to remove glue resist After the dyes have fully processed, remove the rubber bands and thoroughly rinse the tote under running water until the runoff is clear. Next fill your sink (or a bin) with warm water, adding enough to cover the tote lying open and flat. Allow the tote to soak for at least 30 minutes so the glue begins to soften and lift off the fabric. You might need to use your fingers to help scrape any excess residue. Soak, rinse and wash tote Don’t be alarmed if your DIY tie-dye patterns look a bit murky after removing the glue resist; sometimes the dye sits on top the glue so they should clear up once all glue is removed. Continue soaking in warm water and removing the glue until all residue is gone. Then wash and dry the tote separately according to instructions. DIY Tie-Dye Patterns with Glue Resist We looooove how this turned out! Isn’t it such a cool way to create different DIY tie-dye patterns? Now you’re ready to hit the farmer’s market or your friend’s pool party in total tie-dye style. What are you thinking of making with tie dye and glue resist? Daddy and Me Father’s Day T-shirts

Daddy and Me Last Minute Father’s Day Gift T-shirts

Maybe you’re good at planning ahead for gift giving, and maybe you’re more like us and searching for something last minute that’s still awesome. Either way, you’ve come to the right place! This daddy and me T-shirt set from Oh Yay Studio is super quick & easy to make with Tulip Fabric Markers, and is totally doable as a last-minute Father’s Day gift. Grab your markers and some T-shirts, and get ready to save the day with your creativity! What you need: Tulip Fabric Markers – desired pack - White or light-colored cotton T-shirts - Printed quote art to use as a pattern - Tape - Cardboard - Pencil - Iron We know these daddy and me shirts are a last-minute Father’s Day gift, but you’ll still want to wash and dry the shirts (without fabric softener) before getting started for best results with the Fabric Markers. Iron each shirt smooth as well. Cut pieces of cardboard to fit inside each shirt, and tape each quote art pattern onto the cardboard. Place each inside of their respective shirt under the top layer, then use a pencil to lightly trace over the wording to help you see it a bit better. (Leave the cardboard inside the shirts while you work to prevent any potential of marker ink soaking through to the back sides.) Use which ever color you like to trace over and fill in the quote art on your daddy and me shirts. You can make them match, or use different colors if you prefer! You can also add another layer of ink over the wording and designs if you feel like it’s needed after the initial coverage. Don’t worry, the markers dry quickly so you’ll still have these last-minute Father’s Day gift shirts done in time! Once you have the wording done, use bright colors to add fun designs to your daddy and me shirts! Extra cardboard makes a great straight edge for lines, and you can do dots and squiggles too. Get creative with it! Create similar designs on the other shirt to match your overall theme. Once you’re happy with how this last-minute Father’s Day gift project has turned out, the only thing left to do is let the shirts dry completely before wrapping them up for Dad! These daddy and me shirts turned out so adorable, right?! Creativity to the rescue! Even if you waited to whip up this last-minute Father’s Day gift, we’re pretty sure Dad won’t even notice, especially with such a cute sidekick to spend the day with! How to do Watercolor Designs on Fabric with Fabric Markers

While you’re probably ready to head out for some fun adventures, you might still need your face mask for certain activities. The Colorventurer will show you how to easily decorate a simple white cotton face mask with a beautiful bouquet of color using Tulip Watercolor Fabric Markers and Puff Paint. Just a little bit of creativity will go a long way in staying safe in bright summery style while you’re out and about! And to keep the watercolor fun going, we've added a few watercolor on fabric projects to try with Tulip Fabric Markers and Tie Dyes! What you need: - Tulip Watercolor Fabric Markers - Tulip Puff Paint– desired colors - White cotton face mask - A circular container to secure your mask on for painting This easy Watercolor Floral Face Mask project only requires a few supplies, and is ready to wear in no time! First make sure your mask has been washed and dried (without fabric softener). Before getting started on decorating your face mask, it helps to secure it to a nice rounded object to fully stretch it out and help it remain stable as you decorate it. Here are The Colorventurer’s tips on how to create each flower shown: Cabbage Rose: Using the fuchsia Fabric Marker (or color of choice), start by drawing a small swirl shape, then create a few curved lines around the swirl to expand the flower. Switch to another color to add dimension to the flower design with a few more concentric curved lines. With the green marker, draw leaves on either side of the cabbage rose. To add dimension to the leaves and to give it that watercolor effect, use the yellow marker on the edges of the leaves. Daisy: Draw a yellow center with the yellow Fabric Marker, then make petals around it with the fuchsia or other desired marker color. Use the purple marker to draw thin lines onto the petals. Lastly, add some leaves to the flower with the green marker. Cistus: Draw and fill in the flower's petals with the orange Fabric Marker. To create the dots in the center of the flower, simply tap the red and fuchsia markers around the center of the flower. Complete the flower with some leaves. Tulip: With the yellow Fabric Marker, create the center of the tulip, then leaving a small gap between each section, draw the top and outside petals on both sides. Next, with the orange fabric marker, fill in the gaps. Add a stem and leaves with the green and yellow markers. Snapdragon: Draw a stem with the green Fabric Marker, then with the yellow fabric marker, create a swirl at the top of the stem. To add some dimension to the flower, take the red marker and add some smaller swirls within the yellow—the color will blend out into the yellow of the snapdragon. To make the flowers pop once the mask is dry, accent the designs with Dimensional Paints in either coordinating colors, or contrasting shades if you’re feeling extra bold! Let dry completely. Now your pretty floral face mask is ready any time you need it while out and about! What other watercolor crafts will you create with Tulip? Here’s a few more ideas for using Tulip Fabric Markers and Tie Dye to watercolor on fabrics: Does your living room need a refresh? These pastel watercolor tassel pillows are the perfect accent for your couch! Start with plain pillowcases and use Tulip Fabric Markers and rubbing alcohol to create diffused watercolor stripes. It’s that easy to turn your drawn designs into watercolor on fabric! Glue on some fun trims and embellishments, and you have a quick and easy no-sew throw pillow! This minimalist flower tote is a colorful and simple watercolor on fabric project to try! Use Tulip Fabric Markers to draw each flower’s stem—and get creative with it! Then, add your beautiful watercolor blooms with Tulip Watercolor Fabric Markers. Spray with rubbing alcohol to create dreamy watercolor effects! You just can’t get cuteness like this in stores! Here’s another cool way to watercolor on fabric! Use Tulip Fabric Markers to draw the outline of a butterfly, then use the Tulip Watercolor Brushes to diffuse and blend the colors! Once dry, use Fabric Markers to add finishing details to your design. Now you’ve got a wonderful wearable watercolor work of art! Fill your Tulip Watercolor Brushes with Tulip One-Step Tie Dye for a different watercolor on fabric experience! To create a fun floral pattern like this, simply brush on the dye and squeeze the barrel to control the flow, then rinse and repeat for each color. For more diffused designs, fill your brush with water and go over your tie-dyed patterns! The Tulip Watercolor Brushes are also great for small watercolor on fabric projects, like making a watercolor tie-dye hat! You won’t have to worry about bunching and binding with rubber bands— just brush on the One-Step Tie Dye and free-hand your tie dye! What else will you watercolor with Tulip? What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint color of choice - Painter’s tape - Heavy paper - Glass or acrylic panel (optional)Thrift shop mirror The struggle to find anything affordable for a wedding or big event is real, right? We recommend hitting thrift shops and yard sales to score your base piece, because as long as you have a base you like, you can pretty much fix everything else with COLORSHOT Spray Paint! Scribble & Script needed a wedding sign, so a thrift shop mirror was just the thing to help her get started while staying on budget. Pick out your paint colors She liked the frame of the mirror, so she just needed some spray paint to flip it into something fabulous! Clean and tape off mirror There really aren’t a ton of tricks you need to know when learning how to spray paint a mirror frame. If you’re going to be keeping the mirror intact and using it as an actual mirror in your space, first make sure to cover the mirror with heavy paper and tape securely around the edges of the mirror itself. (You’ll want to clean the mirror edges first from any dust or prints so you get a secure hold with the tape to prevent any paint from seeping underneath.) If you won’t be keeping the mirror and only the frame, you can remove it, just make sure to clean the frame before painting. Thrift Flip Mirror with COLORSHOT Working in a well-ventilated area, spray several light coats on the mirror frame, letting dry in between coats. Check to make sure you’ve gotten all edges, and if your frame has texture, double check that the texture is evenly coated with paint. Once you’re happy with the look, let dry completely before adding your acrylic panel or whatever you decide to do with your frame. And that’s it! Now you know how to paint a mirror frame with fantastic results. What else are you thinking of flipping with COLORSHOT? Tag us on social @mycolorshot and share with us!

Easy Painting Tutorials for Flowerpots with Acrylic Paint

Easy Painting Tutorials for Flowerpots with Acrylic Paint

What’s even better than adding greenery to your space? How about pots that are personalized too?! We’re loving these hand-painted flowerpots from Delineate Your Dwelling, who combined COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints with dimensional paint for pots with some serious artistic flair. Check out her easy painting tutorials and get inspired to give your own plants a major housing upgrade in just a few simple steps. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints – desired colors - Puffy® 3D Paint – desired colors - Terra cotta pots - Paintbrushes - Painter’s tape - PencilWipe down pots before painting Before getting started on these easy painting tutorials, grab your supplies and make sure your flowerpots have been wiped down with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any dust. Let dry completely before painting. Tape off sections for color blocking For the color blocking part of these easy painting tutorials, it helps to use painter’s tape to section off your pot. This will prevent colors from mixing on your pots, and will also give you nice, clean edges for your blocking. You can make your color blocked sections as wide or as narrow as you prefer by cutting or layering tape strips to make them thinner or wider. Paint between tape strips and let dry Brush several coats of your chosen paint colors between the strips of tape, letting dry between coats. Once you’re happy with the coverage, remove the tape and allow the paint to dry before adding dimensional texture. Sketch stripes onto color blocking The next part of this easy painting tutorial is – you guessed it – adding texture with 3D Paint! Delineate Your Dwelling wanted to create monochromatic stripes within her color blocking, so she first used a pencil to lightly sketch vertical lines. You can of course just go for it with the 3D Paint, but sketching them first can help guide you as you apply the paint. Apply 3D Paint to flowerpot Easy Painting Tutorial Pro Tip for 3D Paint: Shake your paint well before using, then tap the tip down on your work surface (cap on) to help move the paint down to the tip. Practice applying on scratch paper or paper towels to get the hang of it before applying on your flowerpots. If you mess up while applying on your pots, you can easily wipe away with a damp paper towel while the paint is still wet, then reapply. Brush random strokes of color on pot The next design idea for these easy painting tutorials is super simple but makes a fun statement! First brush random strokes of acrylic paint all over your flowerpot and let dry. Apply 3D Paint over brushstrokes For added sheen and texture to the brushstrokes, apply and brush glitter 3D Paint over the tops of your brushstrokes and let dry. You can even add additional dots of dimensional color to accent your designs! Brush acrylic paint onto top half of flowerpot Ready to get even artsier with these easy painting tutorials? First brush a base color of acrylic paint on the top half or two-thirds of a flowerpot/pitcher. Your line work doesn’t have to be straight; keep it flowing! Apply 3D Paint dots over acrylic paint Once your acrylic paint base is dry, apply dots of 3D Paint over the top. You can make them evenly spaced or in whatever pattern you like. Let paint dry completely Let all of your flowerpots dry completely before adding plants! Easy Painting Tutorials for Flowerpots Weren’t these totally easy painting tutorials? Your artistic flowerpots are ready to steal the show! What other painted designs are you thinking of trying with COLORSHOT? Tag us on social @mycolorshot and share with us!

Color Mixing Canvas Art

Color Mixing Painting Technique with Fabric Paint

Here’s a fun piece of art that takes hardly any time to make and will brighten up any room. Steffi Lynn of Have a Nice Day shows you how to create colorful canvas art using her color mixing paint technique that will expand your Tulip Soft Fabric Paint Rainbow Pack from 10 colors to … as many as you can create! What you need: For this painting technique, you can use the Soft Paint Rainbow 10 Pack if you want to start with a great selection of primary colors, or you can even use colors you already have! To experiment with color mixing, you’ll need a smooth surface to use as a palette. Step 2 The best part about this painting technique is you just get to play and experiment with mixing different colors to see what you like! Squeeze a little bit of each paint you want to use onto the palette. Step 3 Using your brush, start mixing colors to create different shades. Don’t like the color you’ve made? No problem, keep mixing, or wipe the palette clean and try some new options. Nothing’s final yet. Pro tip: Don’t just mix 2 colors, try 3 and test different amounts! Step 4 Once you’ve found the colors you like, make sure you’ve mixed enough to lay it evenly on your canvas. With a pencil, mark a dot on your canvas where each color will go. (You can measure if you want exact spacing and alignment between color dots!) Then start painting your different colors you’ve mixed onto the markings in whatever order you like. Step 5 Once the paint is dry, you’ll have a great new piece of art and some new colors you’ll remember how to mix in the future. Wasn’t that an easy color mixing painting technique? Light coats are always better than one heavy coat to avoid drips and paint running. Spray paint floor of golf cart You can paint your entire cart all one color, or get creative like Lolly Jane and paint different sections different colors. How to Make Paper Flower Frame with Memory Glue

How to Make Paper Flower Frame with Paper Glue

With all of the online shopping most of us are doing these days, it’s probably safe to say that cardboard boxes are piling up! Instead of tossing them, upcycle your cardboard into a sensational spring craft that also makes a great gift for Mother’s Day, birthdays and more. Oh Yay Studio will show you how to use Aleene's paper glues to create a paper flower frame that’ll keep sunny spring cheer going all year long. Let’s get your creativity blooming! What you need: - Aleene’s Acid-Free Tacky Glue - Cardboard box - Cardstock papers – colors of choice - Scoring tool (or even a pen cap for scoring and creasing) - Scissors or straight edge for cutting cardboard - Photos - FREE SVG Files from Oh Yay StudioStep 1 This fun spring craft is going to help you upcycle those cardboard boxes into something new and blossoming with color! Before you get started, make sure at least one side of your cardboard doesn’t have printing on it. (Or you could always paint it too, if you want to add some extra color.) Step 2 First cut out the frame to fit the photograph you have in mind. You can make your frame any size and shape that youd like. Oh Yay Studio cut two pieces one for the front of the frame and one for the backing. For sizing youll want to cut out the opening for the front piece to fit your photo, plus a few inches of border. Note: You dont need to have two pieces for your frame, but its an option! Step 3 Download the SVG file (linked in the supply list) for the flowers and cut out as many as desired from your different colors of cardstock. Note: The flower SVG file has 3 layers per one finished flower. (You will see the variation on the shapes, but keep in mind that you will need one of each shape to complete one flower). You can adjust the sizes to be as large or small as youd like within your design space; just make sure you are sizing all three layers at the same time so that they can be layered appropriately after cutting out. Step 4 Prep flowers and petals by giving them shape. Using a pen or paintbrush, begin to roll the edges of the flowers to give them movement and life. Step 5 For the stems with leaves, use a scoring tool to gently score the center of each leaf. Step 6 Then lightly crease the center-most sections and fold the sides upward to give the leaves dimension as well. This spring craft is starting to come to life! Step 7: Now its time to start gluing all of your floral pieces together! For the flowers, start with your largest base piece, add a dot in the center, then press the next piece in place on top. Step 8 Repeat this process for each layer. Have some creative fun with this part of your spring craft! You can mix & match the colors for your layers, or make your flowers all one color its totally up to you! Step 9 Save your leaf pieces to glue to the base of the frame so you can move and arrange them how you like before gluing to the flowers. Let the flowers dry before you start gluing everything to the frame. Step 10 It helps to experiment with the arrangement of your flowers before you start gluing them in place on the front of your cardboard frame. You might even decide you want MORE flowers and need to create a few extra. It is a spring craft, after all! Step 11 Once you have the placement more or less figured out, start gluing your flowers and leaves onto the frame. Remember, for those flowers where you are adding leaves, glue the leaf part onto the frame first, then layer the flowers over the top. Step 12 If youre using a back piece for your frame, glue the photo in place on the back piece, making sure it will be centered when you place the front piece on top. Step 13 Next glue the top of the frame with the flowers in place over the back piece, sandwiching your photo in between. Let this fun spring craft completely dry before gifting or putting on display! Step 14 This flower frame is one youll want to keep on display all year long! It would make a great gift for the moms in your life for Mothers Day, a birthday or any day just to brighten their day! Step 15 Aleene's Acid-Free Tacky Glue was made specifically for paper projects, photos and other memory keeping DIYs! What other spring crafts are you thinking of making with Tacky Glue? How to ice tie dye biker shorts

How To Ice Tie Dye Biker Shorts

Whether you’re heading out for a run or heading to bed, do it in style with tie dye! Artist Steffi Lynn will show you how to ice tie dye biker shorts and a matching tee using the Tulip Ice Dye One-Step Tie-Dye Kit. It’s such an easy way to customize your workout gear and loungewear with totally cool tie-dye effects! What you need: - Tulip Ice Dye One-Step Tie-Dye Kit or kit of choice - White 100% cotton biker shorts - White 100% cotton T-shirt - Ice - Plastic bucket or bin - Grate or rack (if not using Ice Dye Kit) - Sealable plastic bag Before we get started on learning how to ice tie dye a biker shorts set, make sure your shorts and T-shirt have been washed without fabric softener. You can leave them damp if you’ll be tie dyeing your projects right after washing, otherwise simply dampen and wring out before you get started. Next decide which tie-dye techniques you want to use to create your tie-dye patterns. Steffi Lynn chose to freestyle it and scrunch and bind her shorts and T-shirt in small knots using the rubber bands included in her kit. Any technique you decide to try will be fun – there’s no wrong way to tie dye! For her tie-dye projects, Steffi Lynn decided to try two different options. For one of her garments, she chose to follow the true ice tie-dye technique: first place your bound garment on the ice-dye grate and set over the top of a bucket or bin to catch runoff as the ice melts. Sprinkle dry dye powders over your project to your liking, then cover it completely with ice and let the ice melt entirely over time. As it melts, it will transfer the dye onto the fabric to create cool watercolor effects! The other tie-dye method Steffi Lynn decided to experiment with was the traditional One-Step method of mixing each dye with water according to instructions, then squeezing the dyes onto her bound garment. You can still place it on the grate and over a bucket as you apply dyes to help keep the dyes from pooling under your project and getting dye where you might not want it. After applying the dyes, place in a sealable plastic bag and let set 6 to 8 hours or longer. No matter which option you choose, after the dye sets, rinse your garments under running water, removing the rubber bands. Then wash and dry according to instructions. Once dry, your super cool tie-dye biker shorts set is ready to wear for a run, a yoga session or lounging with a fun flick. Whatever you’re up to, you’ll be doing it in your own colorful style! Now that you know how to ice tie dye, what else are you thinking of making? Make sure to tag us on social @tulipcolorcrafts and share your ice tie-dye creations with us!

Mommy and Me Tie-Dye Dresses

Mommy and Me Tie-Dye Dresses

It’s the perfect time of year to start sporting flowy dresses in fabulous colors! Get your whole girl crew – even the littlest members – in on the fashionable fun with matching tie-dye dresses. Pretty Life Girls will show you how to use the ice dye tie-dye technique with Tulip Tie Dye to make the coolest mommy and me dresses around! You can even get your littles in on the adventure for a Mother’s Day gift, creative activity or just because it’s fun to tie dye! What you need: - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Tulip Soda Ash - Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Containers (optional) - White 100% cotton dresses - Wire rack/grate - Ice - Plastic bucket or bin Before getting started on tie dyeing your mommy and me dresses, make sure your dresses are 100% cotton for best and brightest results. You don’t HAVE to presoak the dresses in soda ash when working with Tulip One-Step Dyes, but Pretty Life Girls opted to – and you totally can too! If you aren’t soaking in soda ash, make sure to wash the dresses without fabric softener before tie dyeing, especially if they are brand new. If you’re using soda ash, prep the soda ash according to instructions and soak the dresses for 20 minutes. After soaking the dresses, ring them out thoroughly (and leave damp), then crumple each dress and place on a wire rack over a bucket or bin (to catch the dye runoff when the ice melts). You can also try a different tie-dye technique; it doesn’t have to be a crumple pattern. Get creative and have fun exploring tie dye! Next cover the dresses entirely with ice, then sprinkle dry dye powders from the dye bottles over the top of the ice. There’s no strategy to it, and no wrong way to do it! Just sprinkle the dye colors however you want to. Let the ice melt completely. As the ice melts, it will transfer the dye onto the dresses! To speed up the dye set process after the ice melts, Pretty Life Girls decided to use Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Containers to microwave their tie-dye dresses. Important: Make sure the dresses are completely damp with no dry spots before microwaving, and carefully follow the instructions that the containers come with. After your mommy and me tie-dye dresses are done processing, rinse and wash according to instructions. Then you and your little will be ready to rock your matching tie dye for any and every occasion! Painted Denim Clothing Upcycle Idea

Painted Denim Clothing Upcycle Idea

Why buy new clothes when you can make something you already have new again, and be creative at the same time? We’re loving the personalized fashion trends we’ve been seeing lately; it’s such a fun way to dress up in styles that are totally you! This clothing upcycle idea from artist Steffi Lynn shows you just how easy it is to customize your denim with hand-painted designs using Tulip Color Products – without spending a fortune. What you need: - Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints in desired colors - Tulip Fabric Paint Markers - Jeans or other clothing item - Sketch paper and pencil (optional) - Chalk pencil (optional) This clothing upcycle idea focuses on decorating the pockets of jeans, but you can use these same ideas and techniques on other areas of your jeans, or different clothing as well! You’ll need Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints and Tulip Fabric Paint Markers for this project. Fabric Paint Markers are more opaque than regular fabric markers, so your designs will really pop on your jeans! Before getting started, make sure your jeans have been washed and dried without fabric softener. (Softener can prevent the paints and markers from properly bonding to the fabric.) Steffi Lynn recommends sketching out your designs first to see what you like before starting on your jeans. Decide which parts of your designs you’d like “flat” (Fabric Paint Markers) and which parts you want to be dimensional (Dimensional Paints). Tip: If you’re not feeling confident about creating your designs on your jeans, you can use a chalk pencil to first sketch them onto the fabric. If you mess up, you can easily wipe the chalk away with a damp cloth and start over. When you are happy with your designs, you can trace over them with Fabric Paint Markers or Dimensional Paints. Start with the “flat” designs using your Fabric Paint Markers before creating your dimensional designs. Next use your Dimensional Paints to create dimension on your marker designs, and add any extra details that you like! Once you’re happy with your work, let your jeans dry flat until everything has completely dried. (Wait at least 72 hours before washing.) Now it’s time to show off your artistic skills with denim that pops with color and creativity! Wasn’t this an easy clothing upcycle idea? It’s a great way to make something new again, or even cover old stains or discoloring on clothing. What else are you thinking of personalizing with Tulip products? Kitchen Storage Organization Tips

Kitchen Storage Organization Tips

We’ve all had that moment in the middle of making dinner where we could have sworn we had a box of noodles … but we can’t find it. Now what to eat? What’s gonna go with all that sauce?! Freshly Fuji will help you never miss a spaghetti dinner again with kitchen storage organization tips for your pantry or food cabinet – ideas you can definitely use for organizing other spaces in your home. Make it easy, and make it colorful with COLORSHOT Premium Paint Products. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (desired colors) - COLORSHOT Premium Paint and Chalk Markers - COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints - Storage baskets, clear bins and clear containers of choice - Painter’s tape - Kraft paper - Stencils of choice - Paintbrushes/paint palette - Bin clip labels - White chalkboard adhesive paper - Craft knife - Adhesive pen caddyBefore – unorganized photo of pantry If you’re in need of kitchen storage organization tips, you are in the right place! Keeping an organized pantry/food cabinet helps with tracking your grocery list and easily finding ingredients and snacks when you need them! (Seriously how many bottles of mustard do you have to buy before remembering you already have three? Asking for a friend.) Freshly Fuji shared with us a photo of her food cabinet before she did a major kitchen storage organization overhaul. Get out your COLORSHOT and get ready to get inspired! Clear food storage containers Clear food containers are a great way to keep some of your food products like cereals and pasta fresh longer, and they also help you track when you are getting low on inventory. Use a chalk marker to label containers Use a COLORSHOT Chalk Marker to label the containers with the food items they contain. The best part is that when you use a Chalk Marker, you can easily wipe it away with a damp cloth and relabel with other item names as needed. Tip: use a strand of painter’s tape to help keep your labeling straight! Clear kitchen storage bins Another super useful kitchen storage organization tool is a clear bin. This helps you keep food items in boxes, cans and jars neatly organized by category (such as dinner ingredients or sauces, etc. – whatever kind of categorization works for you). Get creative with your labeling using Acrylic Paints and Paint Markers! Label the bins with paint and paint markers To label your clear bins, use a paintbrush to paint several layers of your favorite Acrylic Paint color onto the INSIDE front of the bin. (You can tape it off if you really want clean edges, or freehand for a less-structured look.) Once the paint dries, use a contrasting Chalk Paint Marker to write out the kinds of foods the bin will hold on the OUTSIDE of the bin, over the color swatch. (That way you can wipe away and relabel while keeping your base color intact.) Painted and labeled kitchen storage baskets Woven baskets are an excellent, stylish kitchen storage organization option for larger food items or cookware, or items you don’t necessarily want to look at but you still need. Spray painting them is an easy way to add some color in your organization theme! Mask and spray paint baskets Use painter’s tape and heavy kraft paper to tape off any portion of your baskets that you don’t want to spray paint. Working in a well-ventilated area, spray several light coats of your chosen color onto the basket. Remove the tape and paper, and let dry. Clip labels onto baskets Once your woven baskets are dry, clip the bin labels on and use your Chalk Marker to label each. Whiteboard list for cabinets Whiteboard cabinet doors are a smart kitchen organization tool to help keep the contents of your pantry organized without taking up space! You can track your grocery list, menu for the week and more! Attach whiteboard to cabinet door To create your own whiteboard cabinet doors: Measure the inside surface of your cabinet doors and trim the chalkboard paper to fit. Peel off a few inches of the liner and apply the chalkboard adhesive to the top portion of the door. Repeat this process, removing a little bit of the liner at a time until you get to the bottom. Use a scraper tool to help smooth out any bubbles as you go. Trim off any excess adhesive paper with a craft knife. You can attach a caddy inside the cabinet to hold your colored Chalk Markers to use for writing your grocery list and planning out your weekly menu. Wipe off with a damp cloth when you’re ready for next week! Use a stencil and acrylic paint to decorate drawers This decorative stenciled drawers idea from Freshly Fuji isn’t a must, but we love the added touch for creating a kitchen storage space you want to keep up! Simply press an adhesive-backed stencil of your choice onto the drawers and brush Acrylic Paint over the stencil. Remove and let dry, and you have some pretty new drawers to go with your organized pantry! Colorful organized pantry We’re obsessed with all of this colorful kitchen storage organization, aren’t you?! Who wants to spend more time getting snacks from the pantry just to admire it?! (Us!) Crafterward will walk you through how to put together your faux stained glass keychain and finish it with Aleene’s Acrylic Matte Sealer to add an extra layer of protection. What you need: - Aleene’s Acrylic Sealer – Matte Finish - Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue - Plexiglass flower with keyring hole - Paint in desired colors + white - Small wooden circle - Paintbrush - Bowl for mixing glue/paints - Keychain hardwareStep 1 Mix about a tablespoon of Aleenes Clear Gel Tacky Glue with a VERY small drop of paint in your desired color. Keep mixing until the glue takes on the color of the paint this will create that transparent color you see with stained glass. (Thats why you only want a SMALL amount of paint, so the mixture doesn't become opaque.) Then, paint your plexiglass flower and allow it to dry completely. Step 2 Paint your wooden circle white and allow to dry. Step 3 Spray your painted plexiglass flower with Aleenes Acrylic Matte Sealer to give it a smooth matte finish, and to help keep the paint from wearing. Don't over spray, a little goes a long way! Step 4 After the sealant dries, glue your white circle onto your flower and let everything completely dry. Step 5 Now it's time to add your keychain hardware! Step 6 Wasn't it so easy to create your own faux stained glass? You can try this same technique on other items too! Enjoy taking this cute little keychain everywhere you go! Now that you know how to make these stained glass crafts, have fun coming up with your own projects. P.S. Don't forget to share with us tag us on social @aleenesdiy!
