Published Date: August 29, 2019 Fab tie-dye fashion isn't just for women ... Guys can rock it too! Although we also love traditional tie-dye looks (and basically everything tie dye) here at Tie Dye Your Summer, this post is kicking it up a notch with simple tie-dye techniques with a high-fashion vibe - for men. And since indigo dye is still trending (And why wouldn't it be? It's super awesome.), we put together some indigo tie-dye fashion looks for men that are super easy to DIY but look like you spent a small fortune on designer. You're secret is safe with us. Keep reading to get inspired! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie Dye Kit - Blue, Black - White or light gray 100% cotton men's shirt (can be T-shirt, button down, hoodie, etc.) - Light-colored cotton denim jeans - Plastic bin for dip dyeing - Pants hanger to hang garments from while dipping - Plastic surface cover Instructions Indigo Tie-Dye Fashion for Men Who said tie dye is just for T-shirts? Sport it at the office, dinner or a night out with friends in a classic button down featuring an ombre dip-dye design that's so easy to create with killer results. To get this look, work with two versions of black or blue dye - one diluted and one more concentrated - and use the Dip Dye Tie-Dye Technique. Indigo Tie-Dye Fashion for Men Want the same ombre dip-dye effect but on a T-shirt instead? No problem, it still looks just as cool! Make sure your T-shirt is 100% cotton for best results, and working with two versions of black or blue dye - one diluted and one more concentrated - and use the Dip Dye Tie-Dye Technique as mentioned above. You can wear this T-shirt anywhere for guaranteed compliments. Indigo Tie-Dye Fashion for Men Perfect for everyday vibes that kick up your casual factor a notch, this men's tie-dye hoodie says "high fashion" whether you're brunching on the weekend or catching a flick after work. You can create this tie-dye look two different ways: using the Dip Dye Tie-Dye Technique - fold the hoodie in half using a pants hanger and dip the center section in a container of dye ... or you could lay your damp hoodie out flat on a covered work surface and use a large paintbrush to brush the dye onto the center section. Such an easy way to create cool men's tie dye fashion. Indigo Tie-Dye Fashion for Men A cool pair of jeans is a wardrobe MUST. Customize a faded or light-colored pair with indigo dye for an easy upgrade that goes with every look. Adding a pop of color to the bottom cuffs adds the perfect amount of cool ... just use the Dip Dye Tie-Dye Technique and dip the legs in dye to your desired length for your new favorite pair of tie-dye jeans. Indigo Tie-Dye Fashion for Men Try mixing black and blue dye effects for the ultimate men's tie-dye fashion statement. To get this look, you'll still use the Dip Dye Tie-Dye Technique and dip your sweater or shirt into the blue dye first, allowing it to process the color for recommeded time. Then you'll re-dip the shirt into the black dye, leaving a few inches of blue untouched by the black dye. The effect is totally runway worthy.

Paint everything from your tree to the ornaments for a fresh new way to deck the halls this holiday season. You can stick to black and silver like we did, or try any color combo you like (we have lots to choose from)! What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Primer, Bubble Bath, Smoke & Mirrors and Smolder) - Faux Christmas tree - Glass or plastic ornaments - Tree star - Skewers If your tree comes with lights attached, first you'll want to tape around all of the bulbs so as not to accidentally coat with spray paint. Spray the tree with a basecoat of Primer and let dry. Once your basecoat is dry, starting at the top of your tree, spray Bubble Bath onto the top third, spraying several light coats and letting dry in between coats. Once you are happy with your coverage, move on to the next section. For the middle section, spray several light coats of Smoke & Mirrors, blending slightly into the top section and letting dry in between coats. Once you are happy with your coverage, move on to the bottom section. On the bottom third of your tree, spray several light coats of Smolder, blending slightly into the middle section and letting dry between coats. Match your ornaments to your different sections. Remove the hangers and prop the ornaments on a tool like skewers so you don't have to touch the bulbs as you paint. Spray several light coats of color. Spray the hangers too if desired. Spray paint your tree star with Bubble Bath, spraying several light coats until you are happy with the coverage. Prop on the top of your tree when it's dry! Once all of your ornaments are dry and ready, hang them in their matching sections on the tree for a true ombre look. Once you are happy with the coverage, let dry completely. Make your own gift box ornaments by spray painting gift boxes with Island Girl. Once dry, tie white ribbon around the box and add a hook for hanging on your tree! Spray paint some of your ornaments with shimmery Bubble Bath. First remove the hangers and prop the ornaments on a tool like a skewer to hold while you spray, that way you don't have to touch the ornament and risk messing up the paint. Spray the hangers as well if desired. Once everything is dry, place them back together and hang on your tree. Repeat the process with Silver Lining for some of the other ornaments for an extra sparkly touch! Who wouldn't want to wake up to such a beautiful tree on Christmas morning?! Swift!) and decided it would be fun to make another pastel project for back to school, since pastel tie-dye is still our jam and basically we want MORE. Hit the halls in DIY style with a pair of pastel tie-dye jeans you can make yourself using a faded pair of jeans you already have and our Tulip® Kaleidoscope 12-Color Kit. You'll save on back-to-school shopping plus look awesome ... double win! Supplies needed - Tulip Kaleidoscope 12-Color Tie-Dye Kit or Tulip Super Big Tie-Dye Kit - Faded/light-colored 100% cotton jeans - Washable marker - Extra dye bottles (or disposable cups) - Zip ties (optional - or you can use the rubber bands included in your kit) - Disposable plastic surface cover - Scissors Instructions Tulip DIY Pastel Tie-Dye Jeans Wash jeans (without fabric softener) and leave damp. Lay out flat on your covered work surface and use a washable marker to draw a chevron/V pattern across the front of jeans. Draw as many V sections as desired; we drew the pattern to halfway down our jeans. Tulip DIY Pastel Tie-Dye Jeans Pleat the jeans along your first marker line so that the line aligns straight across the top of the pleats. Tightly bind with a rubber band or zip tie to secure. Repeat this process along each marker line. How To Make Pastel Tie Dye Mix your dyes according to kit instructions. We used Pink, Orange and Teal for our jeans. If you have extra mixing bottles, pour some mixed dye of each color into a new mixing bottle for each color, then refill each with water to dilute the colors and create pastel shades. Test on scrap fabric first if desired to make sure you like the colors. If you don't have extra mixing bottles, you can pour out a majority of each dye color into a plastic cup (one for each color) to save dye, leaving about a third or less of dye in each of your bottles. Refill with water to dilute and shake to mix. Test if desired until you are happy with each color. Tulip DIY Pastel Tie-Dye Jeans Apply diluted dye colors to bound sections of jeans, alternating colors between sections. One you have finished, cover jeans with plastic to keep damp and let set for time recommended in instructions. Tulip DIY Pastel Tie-Dye Jeans Once dye has set, cut off rubber bands/zip ties and immediately wash according to instructions. Make sure to wash separately from other clothing the first few washes since some dye will wash out in the process. Tulip DIY Pastel Tie-Dye Jeans How pretty are these pastel tie-dye jeans?! So easy to make and the best part is, no one else will have the exact same pair!

Chair Makeover With Spray Paint

Chair Makeover With Spray Paint

Chairs can be expensive, even when you buy them on discount. If you're like us and you'd prefer to spend your money on other things - like shoes or vacationing on a beach somewhere - then pull up a chair (pun intended) and keep reading this post. Because you can totally give your old set of chairs, or some awesome thrift or yard sale finds with potential - a makeover with COLORSHOT! And with so many color options to choose from, you can match them to any color scheme in your space. You'll spend just a few dollars on COLORSHOT, you'll have fresh new chairs, and you can spend the rest of your budget on a plane ticket to a tropical location with a lot of sun and even more pina coladas. PS. For all of our world travelers out there, THIS is the COLORSHOT color for you! What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Summer Pedicure and Marshmallow) - Chairs (plastic, wood or metal) - Painter's tape - Protective plastic cover First choose your color palette. For an ombre look like we created, you'll want to select colors that blend nicely together; avoid any color combinations that result in muddy effects. We ended up just going with Summer Pedicure and Marshmallow for our chairs, but you could absolutely throw in a third color like Orange Slice if you want more color on your chairs. Make sure your chair legs are clean and dry. If your chair legs are a shiny metal, we recommend lightly sanding with a rough sandpaper or steel wool, then using a spray primer as a base before adding color. Use painter's tape to seal off the portion of the chair legs you aren't going to paint. Place chairs over a plastic surface cover to protect your space, and you might even want to cover your chairs to protect from any overspray. For these chairs, we used COLORSHOT Marshmallow as a base color, spraying all the way up to the taped points. Spray at least two coats, letting dry in between coats. Next we sprayed Summer Pedicure, starting at the very bottom of the legs and getting lighter with our application toward the taped mark. We left some white at the top of each leg for a true ombre look. Let the first coat of color dry then add another coat, again creating more opaque coverage at the very bottom. Let dry completely. Now your chairs are ready to show off to all of your friends ... you have a perfect excuse to throw a dinner party ... or play musical chairs if you feel so inclined.

DIY Letterman Jacket

DIY Letterman Jacket

When it's back-to-school season, it's time to start thinking about that ever-important question: what is your student going to wear?! Whether they're in sports, cheer, band or just full of spirit, letterman jackets have always been a school wardrobe staple – but they can be super expensive. We decided to put our own spin on this old tradition with a denim jacket modified with flannel fabric and patches for an easy, affordable letterman jacket variation. Read on to see how easy it is to DIY your own with no sewing needed, just Aleene's Fabric Fusion! What you need: - Aleene's® Fabric Fusion® - Denim jacket - Flannel fabric (enough to fit backside of jacket) - Patches - Trim to match flannel - Cutting blade - Cutting mat - Scissors - Sewing pins (optional) Since you'll be cutting out the back of your jacket and replacing with flannel fabric, make sure to measure the back of your jacket so you get enough fabric. Stock up on letter patches for your student's favorite word or theme for the year, and other patches with lots of personality. Lay the jacket out flat on top of a cutting mat, making sure the sides are pulled completely out and away so you don't accidentally cut them when cutting out the back of the jacket. Use your blade tool to cut out the back panel of the jacket. Flip the jacket over so you are working on the inside of the jacket. Cut your flannel fabric swatch so that it is slightly larger than the open panel on the jacket. Add a thin line of glue around the edges of the open panel on the jacket. Tip: less is more when working with Fabric Fusion – a thin line of glue will do! Too much glue could oversaturate the fabric and cause your flannel not to adhere properly. Press the flannel fabric swatch in place and let dry. Cut the trim to fit around each side of the flannel swatch then glue in place over the edges to protect from fraying. Let dry completely before moving on to the next step. Tip: you can use sewing pins to hold the trim in place while drying if desired. Flip jacket over and glue patches where desired on the front of jacket. Let dry. Flip jacket back over to backside. Add glue to backsides of letter patches. Add additional patches if desired and let everything dry completely before wearing. How cute is this jacket?! We might be biased, but we think it's even cooler than an ACTUAL letterman jacket because this one has serious style and your student's personality all over it!

Kick up the color factor on a standard Cornhole set with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint and chevron stencils! This is a great outdoor project that turns into a fun summer game for any party or get together! What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Emoji, Orange Slice, Stiletto, Mermaid, Black Tie Affair) - Cornhole game set - Large chevron pattern stencil - Protective plastic - Painter's tape For your Cornhole game, you can choose to paint with as many colors as you like; we went with five to keep with our backyard games theme, but feel free to have fun with it! We recommend selecting a palette that makes you feel like a winner. Gather your large stencil, your paints and supplies and get ready for an awesome outdoor project. Cover your game board with protective plastic up to the point where you are painting your first color section. Tape the plastic in place and lay your stencil down over the exposed section. Begin spraying several light coats of color until your desired coverage is achieved. Remove the stencil once finished. Once the first section is dry, cover it with plastic to protect from overspray, as well as the remaining sections to be painted, leaving only the one you are currently painting exposed. Repeat spray and masking process for each section until the game board is complete. See how easy that was? Now you're ready to show everyone who's the outdoor party game champion!

What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Emoji, Orange Slice, Stiletto, Mermaid, Little Black Dress) - Large wood Connect Four game with wood disc playing pieces - Painter's tape - Heavy paper or plastic If you're good at working with wood, you can most likely figure out how to make your own giant Connect Four backyard game or find a tutorial online. If you're not, you can bribe someone else to make it, or find one to purchase. The best part is adding color anyways! Because this is such a large game piece, it makes a great outdoor project since you'll want to be in a well-ventilated area with lots of space. 1. Start by taping off your board with painter's tape as shown. If you're a perfectionist, have your ruler or measuring tape handy for even spacing between sections, or you can just eyeball it. Tape around the edges of your board as well to protect from overspray. 2. Once taped off, place your game board on a protected surface and get your cans of COLORSHOT ready! 3. Use heavy paper like posterboard to protect sections from overspray, leaving only the area you plan on spraying with the first color exposed. 4. Spray several light coats of the first color onto the exposed section, letting dry in between coats. 5. Let dry then remove the heavy paper. 6. Repeat process of taping heavy paper over sections you are not working on to protect from overspray. 7. Spray the next section with several light coats of color, letting dry between coats. 8. Remove heavy paper and continue process of re-covering sections you are not working on. 9. Once you've completed all sections, carefully peel away the tape and let your game board completely dry. Stand back and admire your colorful work before putting your game face on and defending your Connect Four champion title!

Giant Painted Jenga Inspired Game

Giant Painted Jenga Inspired Game

Is your house the place to be when it comes to summer fun? If you don't have a pool and your kitchen is loaded with kale and lentils instead of the sweetest snacks money can buy, don't worry, there's still time to put your game face on and win the title of best backyard on the block. For starters, summer games for your backyard are awesome and they're super easy to DIY. This giant Jenga®-Inspired game makes a fun activity for kids, and is also perfect for people of all ages ... we can't help you with cutting the wood (there are so many easy tutorials online though), but we CAN help you EASILY add color with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint so you have the best-looking giant Jenga®-inspired game around. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Emoji, Orange Slice, Stiletto, Mermaid, Black Tie Affair) - 54 Oversized wood pieces (cut to the same size) - Painter's tape To make your own giant Jenga®-inspired game, first you'll need 54 wood pieces, all cut to the same size. If you're not exactly sure how to do this, there are lots of great tutorials online, or you could just get someone else to do it for you. (We're fans of that idea.) For our set, we chose 5 COLORSHOT spray paint colors because we're all about color. You could absolutely use less colors or more if you're even crazier about color than we are! You'll want to make sure you're in a well-ventilated area when working with any spray paint, so this makes a great outdoor project, especially since you'll need more room when working with oversized game pieces. Lay the wood pieces of your first color in a row on a protected surface and tape all around the edges to hold the pieces together and to mask around the edges. Spray several light coats of your first color onto the tops of wood pieces, letting dry in between coats. When the tops are dry, carefully flip over and repeat on the backside. Another option is to spray the ends of some of the wood pieces like we did, or all of them if you feel like it. Have fun with it! To spray the ends, place the wood pieces vertically together and tape around the sides as shown to keep the sides protected from overspray. Spray several light coats of color until your desired coverage is achieved, letting dry between coats. Let dry and flip over to repeat on other side. Once you've finished spraying, remove tape and let everything dry completely. Repeat for other pieces as desired. Now you're ready to crush the competition with your skills. This oversized Jenga®-inspired game is great for barbeques, parties or even just a fun game for kids any day of the week. Let the summer games begin!

Spray Painted Monogram Chairs

Spray Painted Monogram Chairs

Royalty deserves a throne to sit on, don't you think? And since you are the queen of throwing the best dinner parties around, you and your guests should dine while sitting on chairs that deserve to be in your presence. BUT, that doesn't mean you have to max out your credit card on golden chairs lined with jewels; you can upcycle a simple set of chairs easily with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint so it only looks like you spent a fortune. Grab your current chairs or go discount shopping, then grab a monogram sticker and your favorite spray paint colors for a stunning set of seats for your soiree. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Primer, Lucky Penny and Cosmo) - Clear lucite chairs - Sticky letter stencils - Masking tape Make sure chair is clean and free of any dust. Place a sticky monogram stencil on the backside of chair backing. (Make sure letter is facing the correct way from the front view!) Spray several light coats of Lucky Penny (or desired color) over the stencil openings. Let dry between coats. Tip: Since metallic colors aren't as opaque as gloss or matte, we sprayed a coat of Primer over the final coat of Lucky Penny to seal in the color before adding Cosmo over the top for the rest of the chair backing. Remove the stencil and once your base is completely dry, you can spray Cosmo or desired color over the backside of chair (make sure to mask off the rest of the chair to protect from overspray). Remember to apply color in light coats for best results. Let dry completely. We don't know about you, but we think these chairs are worthy of royalty. Now your party guests can feel like they are sitting on a throne when dining at your table.

Monogram Painted Charger Plates

Monogram Painted Charger Plates

Some might argue that the table styling at a dinner party is actually more important than the dinner itself; and they would be right. But does this mean that you have to go out and spend a fortune on servingware and table decor to maintain your new yearly title of "Everyone's Favorite Party Hostess/Host"? Obviously not, because you are far too clever and creative to empty your bank account on decor and leave nothing left for spending on food. Hangry guests defeat the purpose of a dinner party. Serve up your main dish in style with Monogram Painted Charger Plates easily made with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint. Why the monogram? That way everyone knows whose table takes the cake in style and cuisine. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Primer, Extra Guacamole and Marshmallow) - Metal charger plates - Stencil cutting machine Make sure metal charger plate is clean and free of dust. Spray with Primer and let dry completely. Spray the front of charger with Marshmallow. Once completely dry, press a vinyl monogram sticker (if you can't find online you can make your own with contact paper) on the center of charger. Spray several light coats of Extra Guacamole over the entire charger until desired coverage is achieved, letting dry in between coats. Remove monogram sticker.

Spray Painted Chandelier

Spray Painted Chandelier

One easy way to fancify any space is with a chandelier. Even an outdoor space and even if you hang the chandelier from a tree. Instant fancy. If you want to be even fancier (and why wouldn't you?), you can spray paint your chandelier to match your party color scheme using COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint. With all of the bright, on-trend colors to choose from, upping your dinner party's game with a spray painted chandelier that matches your table is easier than putting together your guest list. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Farmer's Daughter) - Metal chandelier Make sure the chandelier is clean and free of any dust. Remove any bulbs, candles, etc. If your chandelier is made from a shiny metal, you'll first want to spray it with Primer and let dry. Spray several light coats of Farmer's Daughter (or desired color) over entire chandelier, including chain, letting dry between coats. Whether your chandelier is purely for decoration or functional, no one can deny how fantastic it will look newly made over with COLORSHOT. Look at that color coverage - so pretty in pink!

Copper Spray Painted Vases

Copper Spray Painted Vases

Vases come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but in just the color you're looking for? That can be a tricky thing. There seem to be much less options when it comes to vases in the shapes and sizes you need and like, and the colors you want for your event. You'll probably hear us say this a lot, but that's because it's true: luckily there's COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint to the rescue! With so many on-trend, bright color options to choose from, you can just spray paint your vases the exact shade you're looking for and worry about more important things, like your dinner party menu or who's in charge of pouring your next glass of wine. Which reminds us, winos, we have just the COLOR for you. Okay back to the vases ... What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Lucky Penny) - Glass vases There are two different ways you can spray paint your glass vases. The traditional way, which would be the outsides, or painting the insides so you can maintain that glossy glass exterior. If you spray paint the insides of the vases, you might want to stick to faux flowers, or you can use the real deal and just know that the spray paint, while strong, isn't entirely waterproof and might potentially at some point flake off with extended exposure to water. That being said, to spray paint the insides of the vases, simply spray your paint inside and swirl the vase around to make sure you coat the entire inside with paint. Set upside down for a bit to make sure the paint doesn't pool at the bottom. Let dry completely before using!

Painted Tea Light Holders

Painted Tea Light Holders

Pretty much everyone has tea light candles around the house ... put them to good use during your dinner party for a pretty glowing table centerpiece that doesn't distract from the yummy food and good conversation. Keep with your party theme by making sure your tea light holders match the other colors you're using ... and before you sigh and get annoyed thinking, "Great, one more thing I have to find, thanks for making me feel bad COLORSHOT," hold up. All you need to make your tea light holders ready to play at your party is a can or two of COLORSHOT Spray Paint. Seriously, just spray paint your tea light holders for a quick and easy way to create a beautiful table centerpiece that's easy on the eyes, your budget and your time to get it all together. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Extra Guacamole and Lucky Penny) - Glass tea light holders - Spray bottle - Vinegar and water - Masking tape Make sure the tealight holders are clean and free of dust. If you are going to be creating half & half mercury-glass inspired designs, have your masking tape, vinegar and spray bottle ready! For solid-color tea light holders, simply spray paint the entire holder, applying several light coats and allowing to dry in between coats. For the mercury glass inspired tea light holders, first tape off the top section of the holder to protect from overspray. Spray several light coats of first color onto bottom half, letting dry in between coats. Remove the tape and let dry completely. Once the bottom half is dry, tape over it to protect the color from overspray. In a spray bottle, mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water and spray onto the top half of glass holder. Immediately spray with spray paint and let dry. Remove tape. Now your party table is ready for colorful ambiance that pairs perfectly with good food and good company!

DIY Painted Wicker Basket

DIY Painted Wicker Basket

Baskets are made for function, but that doesn't mean they can't look fab while doing their jobs. Unfortunately, most baskets you find out there are pretty simple and seriously lacking in color and style. Luckily, you have COLORSHOT in your arsenal of creativity because painting a basket with spray paint is easy for the expert and the novice DIYer alike, and the results will have you bragging to your friends about your pretty new basket every time they come over. (And if they don't appreciate your upcycled basket, you might want to get some new friends. Just saying.) All you need is a roll of masking tape, that old basket you threw out in the garage, and a few bright COLORSHOT spray paint colors to get your party started. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Cosmo, Farmer's Daughter and Extra Guacamole) - Wicker basket - Masking tape - Plastic garbage bag Make sure your basket is clean and free of any dust. If you're going to be painting with several colors in a striped pattern like we did, mask off the bottom section with masking tape, using enough tape to cover several inches above to protect from overspray. Spray several light coats of first color as needed to achieve desired coverage, letting dry between coats. Once the first section of color is completely dry, tape it off, as well as the section above, leaving desired amount of space in between tape. Repeat spray paint and taping process for each band of color you decide to create. That old basket from the garage (or living room - you get the point) looks even better than when you bought it. Now you can store your party stuff in style!

How To Throw A Tie-Dye Party

How To Throw A Tie-Dye Party

Published Date: June 25, 2019 If you have never thrown a tie-dye party before, we have to ask, what are you waiting for?!?! Unlike other occasions that require a reason - like birthdays and holidays - tie dye is reason enough to celebrate! (Although birthdays, holidays and events like family reunions and summer camps, etc. are also perfect opportunities to tie dye.) The great thing about a tie-dye party is that you don't have to plan any extra over-the-top activities or entertainment because the tie dye IS the entertainment! PLUS, everyone gets to go home with a super cool party favor - a.k.a. a tie-dye T-shirt they'll enjoy every time they wear it. Are you convinced to throw a tie-party yet? Because you should be. And before you come up with any excuses like you are too busy or it's too expensive, follow us this way for easy, affordable tips on how to throw a tie-dye party with Tulip Tie Dye. Supplies needed - Tulip Tie-Dye Party Kits - Tulip 1-Color Tie-Dye Kits - Disposable plastic table covers - Paper towels - White 100% cotton T-shirts - Plastic sealable bags (for storing tie-dye projects) - Marker (to label bags) - Bucket or sink for dampening shirts Instructions Choose your tie-dye kits for your party. First things first ... to throw a tie-dye party, you're going to need some tie dye. It'll help to get a head count of how many people are attending your party so you know how much tie dye to get! Generally, one Tulip Tie-Dye Party Kit has enough dye and supplies for 4 to 6 people, depending on which kit you buy. You can always supplement your party kit with additional 1-Color Kits if needed. As far as T-shirts go, you can either have your guests bring their own, or buy a pack of T-shirts super cheap at your favorite discount store. Or you can buy them here after you're finished reading this post. Whether people are bringing their own or you are providing, make sure the shirts are 100% cotton for best dye absorption. Tip: We recommend pre-washing the shirts before dyeing because they are usually coated in a product called "sizing" that can prevent the dye from fully absorbing into the fabric. PS. Don't use fabric softener because that can affect the dye too! Set up tie-dye stations. If you're a super Type-A organized sort of person, you'll probably love the idea of setting up tie-dye stations for all of your guests. Cover your work surface with a disposable plastic table cover to prevent dye stains - or if you're an artist who loves color or you just have a crappy table you don't care about - leave the table cover off and see what cool dye designs might come of it! You can also prep before your party by pre-mixing all of the dyes and setting them up at the work stations, or allow your guests to mix the dyes when they are getting ready to tie dye. Set out the rubber bands and gloves that come in the kits, as well as extra paper towels to help with any spills or messes. Tie dye on the grass instead of stressing over tie-dye stations. Are you a free spirit and the thought of setting up and organizing tie-dye stations gives you a headache? Don't worry, it's summer! Make everyone go outside and tie dye their projects on the grass. Done and done! Prep shirts for dyeing. Now the fun can really begin! Your Tulip Tie-Dye Kits come with protective plastic gloves for your guests to wear to prevent dye stains on their hands, but some of us at Tulip think it's just as fun and totally part of the tie-dye experience to get your hands as colorful as your tie-dye project. Tulip dyes are nontoxic and if you do get dye stains on your hands, don't worry, the dye will fade every time you wash them and will be completely gone within a short few days. Make sure all T-shirts are damp - either using the sink faucet or a bucket full of water you have ready outside. Make sure to wring out the T-shirts thoroughly before folding and binding. You don't want them too wet because the dye will dilute and run, and your designs might not turn out as crisp! Fold, twist and bind shirts before dyeing. Your Tulip Tie-Dye Kits come with easy-to-follow project instructions for popular tie-dye patterns, so make sure to set them out for guests to read over and pick a tie-dye pattern before beginning. You can also check out our Tie-Dye Techniques section for even more ideas! Fold, twist and bind the damp shirts with the rubber bands that are included in your tie-dye kits. You can also try tie-dye techniques using string or zip ties instead of rubber bands for different effects! Don't forget to take photos. Don't forget your photo ops! Tie dye is so bright, colorful and fun, there will be tons of opportunities to snap in-progress pics of your tie-dye projects to share with your friends. Store tie-dye projects in sealable bags. Once everyone has finished adding tie dye to their T-shirts, you'll want to keep them damp for 6 to 8 hours so the dye can fully process. Sealable plastic bags are perfect for keeping the shirts damp and also containing the dye so it doesn't accidentally drip anywhere and stain your car, clothing or furniture! Have a marker on hand so you can label everyone's bag with their name so projects don't get mixed up when the party is over. Offer colorful food to go with the tie dye theme. You can't have a party without snacks! Try offering colorful foods and drinks to go with your tie-dye party theme. Summertime parties are perfect for snow cones and ice creams with lots of color! Include laundering instructions. If you're feeling extra ambitious before your party, you can type up care instructions for your guests (found in the tie-dye instructions included in your kits) and attach to their plastic bags before they leave. Make sure to let them know not to get too eager and wash their shirts before the 6 to 8 hour period because their projects might not turn out as bright and bold if they don't give the dye enough time to set. Everyone will be excited for tie dye! See how easy it is to throw a tie-dye party? From the tie dye to the food, go big on color and let the tie-dye experience do the rest. Tie-dye activities are fun for all ages and skill levels, and perfect for most kinds of parties, holidays and events like family reunions, camps, team bonding activites and so much more. Your party guests will be jumping for joy when they get their invite to a tie-dye party!

How To Wear Tie-Dye

How To Wear Tie-Dye

Published Date: June 11, 2019 You might be shocked to find out that some of us on the Tulip team do not wear tie-dye T-shirts. Before you gasp in horror and exit this post, WAIT! We're not saying we don't LIKE wearing tie dye, we're just saying that some of us prefer wearing our tie dye in other ways than a T-shirt. "Well, how else can you wear tie dye besides on a T-shirt?!" you might be wondering. We are so glad you asked, because that is EXACTLY the purpose of this post! Read on to see how to wear tie dye other than on a T-shirt ... these projects are perfect for adding a pop of color to your style whether you too are not into wearing tie-dye T-shirts, or you're just looking for a way to mix up your tie-dye fashion style. Supplies needed - Tulip Tie-Dye Kit - Scarf (100% cotton, rayon or silk) - White canvas sneakers - White denim jeans - White cotton jean jacket - Canvas tote bag - White cotton bodysuit and/or T-shirt dress - Denim shorts with lace accents - White cotton bandana Instructions Ombre Dyed Scarf The ombre tie-dye technique is one of our favorites because no matter what color palette you choose, it always looks so pretty! An ombre dyed scarf is a great way to add color to your look whether you're at the office or getting ready to stuff your face at a BBQ - it's all in how you style it! For a bright spring/summer scarf, choose a tie-dye kit like the Luau 5-Color Tie-Dye Kit. Tie-Dye Shoes In a world with mass retail and so many of the same thing everywhere you turn, at least you can take comfort in knowing you can customize your shoes to be one of a kind! We tie dyed this set of Chucks with the ombre tie-dye technique and a paintbrush, but you can literally add dye straight from the bottles in a similar pattern, or a splatter pattern or however you feel like. There's no wrong way to tie dye! Just make sure your shoes are made from canvas, and for bright rainbow effects, try using the Rainbow 5-Color Tie-Dye Kit. Tie-Dye Denim Vest A denim vest is a wardobe staple, as far as we're concerned. Like its counterpart, the denim jacket, you can pretty much wear it all year long with most outfits to add a casual cool vibe to your look. Try tie dyeing a white denim vest using the crumple tie-dye technique and one color like black for a fashion statement that's so fab. Tie-Dye Lace Accent Jean Shorts Another wardrobe staple? Jean shorts! Perfect for lounging at home, summer outings or pretty much doing whatever in, jean shorts aren't falling off anyone's radar any time soon. Customize a cutoff pair of denim shorts with lace fabric along the bottom edge (just glue on with a permanent fabric glue like Aleene's® Fabric Fusion) dip dyed in a bright dye color like red. Don't have a container for dip dyeing? Don't even trip ... you can squeeze the dye directly from the bottle onto the bottom section of your shorts for the same effect. Tie-Dye Bodysuit and Tie-Dye Dresses What exactly are you supposed to wear on a summer road trip? Why sacrifice cuteness for comfort when you can have it all??? Boyfriend jeans, bodysuits and T-shirt dresses are at the top of our list for road tripping this summer; make yours stand out no matter what town you end up in with earthy shades of tie dye. Pick up the Kaleidoscope 12-Color Kit and have a tie-dye party with your besties before you hit the road. Looking for tie-dye techniques to try? Get creative with the string bullseye tie-dye technique or the striped tie-dye technique. How To Wear Tie-Dye Jeans Another article of clothing you can tie dye outside of the T-shirt realm is a pair of jeans (as long as they are made from 100% cotton). Whether you prefer muted tones like shown here or you want a pair that's super bright and colorful, turn heads in a pair of DIY tie-dye jeans that you know no one else will be wearing. We used the string tie-dye technique for this pair but feel free to get creative with tie-dye techniques like the crumple technique or the ice dye technique for a fun way to stay cool this summer! Tie-Dye Bandana Keep your hair out of your face and look cool doing it with a tie-dye bandana! Great for camping or everyday wear, a tie-dye bandana is a fun way to add some color to your look without going over the top. We used red and blue dyes from the Psychedelic 3-Color Tie-Dye Kit in a random pattern on a white bandana, but get creative with your tie-dye patterns and colors - it's totally up to you and your style! Tie-Dye Tote Bag Are you now convinced that you can rock a tie-dye look aside from a T-shirt?! Your options on how to wear tie-dye are endless as long as you're working with dyeable fabrics. (Think natural fibers like cotton, rayon and silk.) You can even give your grocery tote (or your everyday handbag) some tie-dye love with a variety of colors in one of the Tulip Tie-Dye Party Kits. At least grocery shopping will be more fun when you have a cool bag to fill up!

Published Date: June 05, 2019 Americana is a trend that never goes away, and Americana tie dye is no exception. Red, white and blue is always in style, especially for Fourth of July! No matter how you're celebrating this summer, you can rock a patriotic tie-dye look in a few easy steps with Tulip Tie Dye. If you missed our first patriotic tie-dye fashion post, peep it out here, then read on for 10 more tie-dye ideas to get you in the star-spangled spirit. Supplies needed - Tulip Tie-Dye Kit - White 100% cotton T-shirt or tank top - White denim shorts - Straw hat - White 100% cotton or rayon skirt - Plastic disposable tablecloth - Paper towels Instructions In most parts of the country, especially at Tulip headquarters, the month of July is HOT, so a pair of denim cutoff shorts is a summer staple. Give a white pair of denim shorts a patriotic makeover with Tulip Tie Dye in red and blue. This tie-dye technique couldn't be easier - simply lay out your damp shorts on a covered work surface and squeeze the dyes directly from the bottle onto the shorts - blue on one side and red on the other. Let set according to instructions and you have yourself a pair of shorts that are perfect for 4th of July BBQs, lake adventures and more. If you're going to be spending time outdoors in the sun, a hat is never a bad idea! A cute straw hat that's red hot is even better! Since straw is a natural fiber, you can totally dye it. Mix up bottles of red and violet dye from the Rainbow Tie-Dye Kit, pour into plastic ups and use a paintbrush to brush the dyes around the brim of your hat and anywhere else. Give your hat a fun facelift that adds some extra flair to your 4th of July fashion! Stay cool in the summertime with a tie-dye tank top! Get this red, white & blue striped effect with the Stripes Tie-Dye Technique and red and blue dye randomly in between your rubber-banded sections. Chill out in the heat with cool shades of blue. Still perfectly patriotic without red added, this ombre tie-dye T-shirt can be made using either the Dip Dye Tie-Dye Technique or by simply squeezing the dye straight from the blue dye bottle onto the top half of your T-shirt. Kimonos are such a versatile wardrobe staple; they look super fab paired with just about any outfit AND they even make cute swimsuit covers for all of the water babies out there spending tons of time by the pool this summer. Give a white cotton kimono some patriotic flavor with red tie dye and either the shibori tie-dye technique or the stripes technique, pleating your fabric and adding dye just down the center (as shown). Maxi skirts are sooooooo comfortable and can be worn just about anywhere for any occasion! Pair a red, white and blue tie-dye maxi skirt with a simple tank top for the perfect comfortable patriotic look whether you're hanging out at a backyard BBQ or heading to the lake with friends. Re-create this tie-dye maxi skirt with the String Tie-Dye Technique. Grab your crew and make your big 4th of July celebration sizzle hotter than the BBQ with bright patriotic tie-dye T-shirts! Make 'em to wear for the party or make 'em during the party as a fun activity with the Tulip Tie-Dye Party Kit. Create the looks in this photo with the Firecracker Tie-Dye Technique, the Spiral Tie-Dye Technique and the Bullseye Tie-Dye Technique. And last but definitely not least, this side bullseye tie-dye T-shirt made with the Tulip Rainbow Tie-Dye Kit mixes in a touch of violet for a fun spin on traditional Americana colors. Make it using the Bullseye Tie-Dye Technique and starting your binding process at the bottom corner of the shirt instead of the center.

Easy Painted Summer Sun Hat

Sunny days are here again! It's finally that time of year for taking activities outdoors and soaking up some sunshine (but not TOO MUCH - don't forget your sunscreen!). A sun hat is an outdoor essential and can also make a fashionable statement, whether you're beach side or brunching on the patio with friends. Make yours stand out with bright colors and summer vibes with Tulip Soft Fabric Paints ... read on to see how easy it is! What you need: - Tulip Soft Fabric Paints - colors of choice (we used Matte: Ebony, Petal Pink, Azalea, Crimson Red, Mandarin Orange, Sunshine Yellow, Holiday Green & Glacier White) - Fabric/straw sun hat - Paintbrushes - Paint palette (paper plate or foil, etc.) - Light-colored marker First choose your color palette. Since we wanted a tropical theme, we opted for a vibrant mix of colors. Use a marker that's similar in color to your hat for creating your design around the brim of the hat. If your hat is made from straw, you can even use a pencil to draw your design. Start painting over your sketched design. Tulip Soft Paints are super opaque and work over both light and dark fabrics - and each other! Don't be afraid to mix colors or use lighter colors over dark colors for accents and highlights. Once you've finished painting, let dry completely. Now you have a sun hat that's as fun as it is functional! Time to head outside if for no other reason than to show it off!
