DIY Tie-Dye POLO T-shirt Like Gigi Hadid

Published Date: May 31, 2019 Tie dye is trending on the runways of some of fashion's hottest designers this year, so it's no surprise that celebrities are out in full force sporting swoonworthy tie-dye fashion looks. One of our favorites so far is Gigi Hadid's casually cool POLO Ralph Lauren® swirl tie-dye T-shirt she paired with white capris and white sneakers (and a fab pearl necklace no less!) to let that shirt POP in all of its brilliant glory. Read more about Gigi's amazing ensemble at Teen Vogue. You can swoop up your own POLO tie-dye tee here for $88 on the retailer's website, or you can make your own POLO-inspired tee for a fraction of the cost using the Tulip® Neon 5-Color Tie-Dye Kit! Check out the deets. Supplies needed - Tulip Neon 5-Color Tie-Dye Kit - White 100% cotton T-shirt - Optional: Stencil/letter cutting machine (OR you can create your own using freezer paper) - Optional: Iron-on vinyl fabric OR black fabric spray paint (like ColorShot Instant Fabric Color) Instructions Tulip Spiral POLO-Inspired Tie-Dye T-shirt Tie dye is fun to wear and even more fun to make! Create your own POLO-inspired tie-dye swirl T-shirt like Gigi Hadid wore using the Spiral Tie-Dye Technique and all of the supplies found in our Neon 5-Color Tie-Dye Kit. You can leave your shirt as is once it's been tie dyed, or you can take it a step further and add your own wording over the top. Maybe you have your own logo or brand, or a fun name your squad goes by ... or your favorite word ... the options are endless! Tulip Spiral POLO-Inspired Tie-Dye T-shirt If you want to add your favorite word across your spiral tie-dye T-shirt, you can use your letter cutting/stencil machine to cut out letters from vinyl iron-on fabric, then iron in place. Or you can trace Collegiate font letters (or desired font) onto freezer paper and cut out with a craft knife to make your own stencil. Iron waxy side down onto your shirt for a temporary hold, then spray over the lettering with a fabric spray paint or fabric paint of your choice. Remove the stencil and let dry before you head out looking like a hot celeb in your new tie-dye tee! Pair with all white for a Gigi-approved look!

How to Pack Tie Dye for Summer Vacation

Published Date: May 30, 2019 Have you been hanging on for dear life for summer to arrive?! We have, and we're not feeling ashamed to admit it. Whether you've had your nose in books studying for finals or you've been juggling 40,000 responsibilities at work, it's time to take some much-deserved time off, don't you think? Hopefully you already have an amazing vacay planned and the only thing left to do is figure out what to pack. But sometimes packing can be stressful if you're like some of us and want to take your entire wardrobe with you - you NEVER know what you might need when you get to your destination! We've put together a packing list of tie-dye summer vacation essentials so you can stay bright, colorful and on trend whether you're road tripping to a hot destination spot or relaxing by the lake with the fam. Supplies needed - Tulip Tie-Dye Kit of choice - White kimono (100% natural fiber like cotton, rayon or silk) - White denim shorts - White canvas shoes - White cotton handbag - White maxi dress - cotton, rayon or silk - White 100% cotton T-shirt - White cotton bandana Instructions Tie Dye Shoes Unless you're going to be spending 24/7 on a beach (which you might very well be), shoes are obviously a MUST. A lot of vacations usually require a fair amount of walking, especially if you're sightseeing. The easy way to pack a comfy pair of kicks that are guaranteed to look cute with any outfit is to make your own ... with tie dye! To tie dye shoes, all you need is a white pair of canvas sneakers and your favorite Tulip Tie Dye colors. Tie-Dye T-shirt At some point during your trip, you'll probably be in a need of a T-shirt. (Unless you don't wear T-shirts, in which case, are you even human?) Whether you're going for a hike, working out at the hotel gym (again we must emphasize, if you're working out during vacation - are you even human?) or taking in the sights, you can't go wrong with a tie-dye T-shirt. Try the spiral tie-dye technique or any of these other easy tie-dye techniques, and if you're still feeling creative, grab a pair of scissors and cut off the sleeves, neckline or other details for a truly custom altered tie-dye T-shirt. Tie-Dye Kimono Kimonos are the perfect article of clothing to take on your vacation because of their versatility! They make excellent swimsuit covers and also look lovely when worn with a dress, a pair of jeans, shorts or a skirt. There are so many ways to mix things up! Make your kimono stand out with tie dye in a bold shade of red (or any of your favorite colors) and either the shibori tie-dye technique or the stripes technique, pleating your fabric and adding dye just down the center (as shown). Mix it up and have fun ... we've said it before and will say it again ... there's no wrong way to tie dye! Tie-Dye Jean Shorts Jean shorts are another wardrobe staple and perfect for summer vacation adventures. Tie-dye jean shorts are even better, and tie-dye jean shorts that have a galaxy pattern have us seeing stars! Give basic jean shorts a break from the mundane with cool shades of tie dye and the crumple tie dye technique. Looking for this specific color palette? You can get it in our Carousel 5-Color Tie-Dye Kit. Tie-Dye Maxi Dress Maxi dresses can be dolled up or down for pretty much any occasion, so if you can only fit one dress in your suitcase, this is the dress to pack! You can go from day to night, beach to fine dining just by swapping out your sandals for heels, tote bag for dinner clutch and putting on a pretty set of earrings. Create your own ombre tie-dye maxi dress for a stunning little number that'll turn heads wherever you decide to wear it this summer. Tie-Dye Purse If you're traveling, it goes without saying that you'll need a bag to tote your stuff around in. This dip-dye crochet bag is so easy to DIY (you literally dip it into a bin of dye to your liking) but you can tie dye any bag as long as it's made from cotton (or another natural fiber material). You can also try different tie-dye patterns ... get creative with it! Tie-Dye Bandana You didn't think we'd forget about accessories, did you?! Bandanas are great for keeping your hair back, tying around your neck to keep cool or protect from the sun, or just wearing to add a bright pop of color to your vacation look. Tie dye a white cotton bandana in your favorite color scheme for a versatile accessory that's functional and pretty too!

DIY Tie Dye Maxi Dress

Published Date: May 29, 2019 Is there anyone who doesn't love tie-dye maxi dresses? Long, billowy and oh so flattering, maxi dresses can play the perfect part for any occasion, whether you're attending a wedding or sipping a fresh bevvy at the beach with friends. And with tie dye being such a hot fashion trend again this year, it's no wonder we've been seeing tie-dye maxi dresses float down the runways in a stunning array of color combos that'll make anyone want to bust out their credit card and pay top dollar for these drool-worthy dresses. BUT, before you spend a car payment or month's worth of rent on a designer tie-dye maxi dress, finish reading this post so you can see how easy it is to tie dye your own sartorial work of art for a fraction of the cost with Tulip Tie Dye and ... wait for it ... a paintbrush! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie Dye Party Kit - White 100% natural fiber maxi dress (cotton, rayon or silk) - Large paintbrush (ex. 3-inch wide bristle section) - Disposable plastic cups - Extra dye bottles (for mixing dyes - or you can use plastic cups) - Scrap white fabrics for testing dye colors Instructions 1. First choose your dye colors. Colors shown here are violet, teal, blue and red & black mixed to make burgundy. (Tulip dyes are totally mixable so you can create your own custom shades if you want.) Add water to the dye bottles and shake to mix. 2. If you have extra dye bottles, pour some of the violet into an extra bottle and refill with water. Shake to mix up a pastel violet shade. If you are using plastic cups, pour out at least half of the violet dye into a plastic cup and refill the dye bottle with water to create your pastel violet shade. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to make sure you like the color. Add more water or dye to lighten or darken if needed. 3. To create burgundy, pour out some of the red dye and add some black dye to the red dye bottle. Shake to mix and test, then add more black dye as needed until you are happy with the color. 4. Pour all of your dyes into individual clean plastic cups. 5. Cover your work surface with the plastic table cover from your kit. Wash your dress (without fabric softener) and leave it damp. Lay it out flat on your covered work surface. 6. Dip your paintbrush into the pastel violet dye (or whatever dye color you choose to work with) and brush the dye onto the top section of dress, brushing downward towards waist. Reload brush with dye as needed as you brush onto dress. 7. Clean brush and load with next dye color. Brush underneath first color, brushing downward towards bottom section of dress as well as blending upward into first dye color. 8. Repeat process with each dye color, working your way to the bottom of the dress and blending dye colors into one another for a true ombre tie-dye look. 9. Cover dress with plastic and let set 8 hours or overnight. Launder according to instructions. Now you're ready to rock a colorful new summer look that'll turn heads everywhere you go! It's up to you whether you want to keep everyone guessing which designer you're sporting or let them in on your little DIY tie-dye fashion secret.

Painted Flowerpot Fabric Wrap

Painted Flowerpot Fabric Wrap

Since we're on an end of the school year kick, let's talk about teachers. (Wait, don't leave!) Most of us have had a favorite teacher or two, whether it's in the same school year or at different times growing up. Celebrate a teacher who's inspired you (or your child) throughout the school year with a customized gift. Rather than the typical teacher mug present (although those are nice too), why not try something a little different and a lot more fun - especially because you get to make it?! This hand-painted flowerpot fabric wrap is the perfect complement to a plant - what better way to say "thank you" for helping you/your child grow throughout the year?! Grab some Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paint and a fabric swatch and you can have this teacher gift ready in less time than it takes to finish a homework assignment. What you need: - Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paint in colors of choice - White fabric square (large enough to fit around flowerpot) - Terracotta flowerpot - Desired ribbon for creating bow - Paintbrushes First choose your color palette. It's always extra personal if you can find out the teacher's favorite colors, but if not, we know they'll still appreciate it just as much! Cut a fabric swatch large enough to completely wrap around the flowerpot. Load your paintbrush with Glacier White and create brushstrokes of paint in a swirl pattern, starting from the center of the fabric swatch and working your way outward to the edge of the fabric. Continue enhacing your swirl pattern with the other paint colors, working from lightest to darkest shades for best results. Once you are happy with how your swirl design looks, let the paint dry completely. Tip: you can use a blowdryer over the paint to speed up the drying process! Wrap the fabric swatch around the pot and secure with a ribbon. What teacher wouldn't love such a colorful custom gift?!

Picture of Dip Dye Ombre Dress

Dip Dye Ombre Dress

Graduation season is upon us, and that begs the question ... what is everyone going to wear?! Whether you're the super star grad or the proud parent, relative or friend, dressing up to celebrate is a MUST. Even if you don't have any graduations to attend this year, surely you have a reason to dress up (if not, just make up a reason)! Here's one: An ombre dip-dye dress is reason enough to head out and about ... who doesn't want to be seen looking this fab?! And luckily, this is one tie-dye look you can totally DIY whether you've tie dyed before or not (no folding or binding required). All you need is a natural-fiber dress (like cotton, rayon or silk) and a few bottles of your favorite Tulip Tie Dye color. Check out the video to see how easy it is to make your own high-fashion ombre dip-dye dress for any and every occasion. What you need: - Tulip 1-Color Tie-Dye Kit (3 to 10 bottles depending on your dress and how concentrated you want your dye to be) - Natural-fiber dress (cotton, rayon or silk) - Plastic bin - Plastic surface cover First make sure your dress (or whatever garment you are dyeing) has been washed (without fabric softener). You can leave it damp after washing if preferred for easier initial dye absorption. Fill your plastic bin with enough water to submerge your dress for the lightest dye color. Mix your bottles of dye according to instructions and pour one bottle into the bin with water. Stir to mix. With gloved hands, dip entire dress into bin and make sure it's fully submerged. Let set for a while to absorb the dye, then remove and gently squeeze out excess dye. Place on a plastic surface cover while you mix more dye into the bin. Add another bottle or two of dye to the existing dye in plastic bin to make darker. Hold the dress upright and dip the bottom half into the darker dye mixture. Hang the top half of the dress over the side of the bin to keep from falling into the dye and let set for a while to absorb the darker dye color. When the color has absorbed to your liking, remove the dress and repeat the process of adding more dye to the bin to darken. Repeat dipping the bottom of dress into the darker dye, but only dipping a third of the way. Allow to set and absorb the dye until you are happy with it. Repeat dye mixing/dipping process once more, dipping just the bottom portion of the dress into the bin. Once you are happy with the result, you can do one of two things: you can hang the dress (over a plastic covered area to protect from the dye dripping and staining the ground) and allow the dress to set 6 to 8 hours or overnight; or you can carefully lay the dress on a plastic covered surface and cover it with the excess plastic cover, and allow to set 6 to 8 hours or overnight. Wash in cold water on gentle cycle with a small amount of laundry soap and air dry. Your ombre dip-dye dress is ready to impress!

DIY Pearl Cluster Necklace

DIY Pearl Cluster Necklace

A pearl necklace is an accessory that never goes out of style; it's a classic staple for any jewelry collection! The real deal can be VERY expensive, but the good news is, there are plenty of faux pearls that look just as beautiful. Instead of sporting a storebought necklace (which can ALSO be pricey), you can easily create your own stunning pearl cluster necklace without any expertise and very little expense! Check out this tutorial that features various colors and sizes of pearls and Aleene's Jewelry & Metal Glue. What you need: - Aleene's Jewelry & Metal Glue- Faux pearls in assorted sizes and colors- Ribbon (desired color)- Freezer paper Creating a pearl cluster necklace is easier than you think! No stringing required! Mix up the sizing and colors of your pearls for added interest, and choose any color of ribbon you like for the ties. Prep your work surface by laying a large piece of freezer paper down to help prevent your pearl cluster from sticking to your work surface. Add a dot of Jewelry & Metal Glue to a larger pearl and press another pearl in place onto the dot of glue. Keep adding dots of glue to different sized and color pearls and gluing to the main cluster you are forming. Once your cluster is large enough to your liking, let dry completely. Cut two strands of ribbon with enough length to comfortably tie around your neck once secured to the pearl cluster. Glue one end of each strand to the backside of each end of the cluster. Let dry completely. Your new DIY pearl necklace is pretty enough to keep on display when you're not wearing it!

5 Easy Shibori Tie Dye DIYs

5 Easy Shibori Tie Dye DIYs

Published Date: April 30, 2019 The popularity of shibori tie dye has been on the rise the last few years, but this indigo tie-dye fashion trend has actually been around since about the 8th century (that's a lonnnnnnng time ago) and originated in Japan. Here in the 21st century, we're still loving this tie-dye technique and are digging how people are working it into their everyday fashion. Shibori is traditionally a resist-dye technique using indigo dye and can be used to create a variety of beautiful patterns on fabric. We rounded up 5 easy shibori tie-dye fashions you can do yourself using blue dyes in the Tulip Shibori Tie-Dye Kits, but as always, have fun with your tie dye! Try changing up your colors, or using multiple dye colors ... there really is no wrong way to tie dye. Read on to get inspired. Supplies needed - Tulip Shibori Tie-Dye Kit - 3 color or 5 color - Cotton, silk or rayon fabric item to tie dye - PVC pipe or tube for rolling fabric (if using the poll-wrap technique) Instructions Shibori Tie-Dye Dress Whether you're taking a walk in the park on a beautiful day, brunching with friends or putting in some serious work at the office, you'll look chic every minute of your day in a shibori tie-dye dress! Paired with heels or sandals, a jean jacket or a blazer, this dress will take you from day to night without skipping a beat. Even better, it's super easy to make; snag a white dress online or at the store, grab a PVC pipe and get the simple tutorial here. Shibori Tie-Dye Men's T-shirt Guys can rock shibori too! What we love about shibori is that you can really play with your resist patterns to create new and interesting effects like this T-shirt made with lots of zip ties. Make sure your shirt is 100% cotton, then use the vertical stripe tie-dye technique, adding lots of zip ties on the top half of the shirt and just a few on the bottom half. The result: a look so hot you'll need to run out and grab a snow cone to cool down. Shibori Tie-Dye Skirt A variation on the vertical stripe tie-dye technique shown above, this shibori tie-dye skirt uses string instead of rubber bands or zip ties. To achieve this look: tightly bind the top of skirt with lots of strands of string and little spacing in between. Indigo blue looks amazing, but you can definitely experiment with other colors or multiple colors depending on the look you are going for. How can you not want to twirl around after creating something so fab?! Shibori Bullseye Tie-Dye Shirt We might be biased, but we think lattes taste better when you're wearing tie dye. Everything is better when you're wearing tie dye! This shibori T-shirt is so easy to make using the bullseye tie-dye technique and lots of zip ties. Start on the side of your T-shirt instead of the center and work your way out, binding until you reach the other side of the shirt. Then add dye for a shibori T-shirt we know you'll like "a latte." (Sorry, we couldn't RESIST the pun - or the play on "resist"! Okay we'll stop.) Shibori Tie-Dye Top A lot of people ask if they can tie dye fabrics that aren't 100% cotton. Here is an example of a polyester/cotton blend top we dyed in shibori style. The result is more of a downplayed, faded look instead of super bold, which we think can be super fab on the right garments and depending on the vibe you are going for (think downtown cool). Just make sure your fabric does have a majority of cotton in the blend because 100% polyester won't absorb the dye. To get this look, use strands of string to bind the top half of your shirt using the stripe tie-dye technique, pleating the fabric along the curve of the neckline. Then add dye to only the bound portion of the top. And afterward? The world is your runway in this casual, cool shibori tie-dye look!

How to make your own pastel tie-dye colors: mix up your Tulip Tie Dyes according to the instructions in your kit. Once mixed, carefully open the bottles and pour some of each dye into a plastic cup (1 per color in case you want to save the dye). Refill the tie-dye bottles with water and replace caps, then shake to mix and dilute colors. Repeat until your desired shades are achieved. Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Plastic cups for diluting tie dye - Disposable plastic surface cover - 100% cotton white fabric item to tie dye Instructions Dip Dye Pastel Tie Dye Shorts Dip dye is one of the easiest tie-dye techniques out there - no folding or binding required - and it looks so chic! These shorts feature a pastel green more diluted on top and more concentrated on the lower half for a fab ombre effect. You can use the Moody Blues Tie-Dye Kit for this look, or try the 1-Color Kit in Teal (or whatever color you like)! Ice Dye Pastel Tie Dye Shorts Another technique that works great for achieving a pastel tie-dye look is the Ice Dye Technique. We crumpled up a pair of white denim jean shorts (make sure they are cotton) and added a variety of One-Step Dye colors in the process. Tip: using less dye powder over the ice will give you a lighter pastel look in the end. Try the Luau Kit or Bright Kit for this look. Shibori Pastel Tie Dye Top We love the Shibori Tie-Dye Technique because it's super high fashion and always produces the most interesting effects, whether you are tie dyeing a T-shirt, blouse, jeans or shorts. Create a similar pastel tie-dye look using the Shibori technique and diluting dye colors from the Mermaid Tie-Dye Kit or Carousel Tie Dye Kit. Shibori Pastel Tie Dye Dress If you're vibing on the Shibori Tie-Dye Technique like we are, why not try a dress? The great thing about a tie-dye dress is that it can be dressed up or down and worn for almost any occasion! Create your own pastel shibori tie-dye dress using the the Moody Blues Tie-Dye Kit or any of your favorite 1-Color Kits. Bullseye Pastel Tie Dye Dress Speaking of dresses, how fun is this pastel blue bullseye dress?! It kind of looks like a beautiul explosion of color! Grab a white cotton maxi dress, check out the Bullseye Tie Dye Technique (which is soooo easy) and make your own for a summer soiree or just because! Get this look with the Turquoise 1-Color Tie-Dye Kit. Crumple Pastel Tie Dye Jeans Jeans are a wardobe staple - we all wear them! Change up traditional tie dye with a pair of tie-dye jeans in pretty pastel hues. This look is so easy to recreate using the Crumple Tie Dye Technique and the Moody Blues Tie Dye Kit on a white pair of cotton jeans. Dip Dye Pastel Tie Dye Top This version of the Dip Dye Technique uses two coordinating dye colors. It's totally fine to add one dye color over another, you'll just want to make sure to dip your article of clothing in the lighter dye color first, then the darker color above or below it. Keep basic color theory in mind when mixing colors - choose shades that blend nicely together instead of turning muddy brown (unless brown is what you are going for)! You can create this look using the Moody Blues Tie Dye Kit. (We know we keep mentioning this kit, but it's just so awesome, especially for pastel tie dye!) Ice Dye Pastel Tie Dye Tank Top Summertime calls for staying cool in tie-dye looks like this tank top created with the Ice Dye Technique. You can keep on using the Moody Blues Kit, or you can try other summery options like Paradise Punch. Ice Dye Pastel Tie Dye Tank Top You can also tote your stuff around in style with a pastel tie-dye tote! Tulip Color Story Craft Room Makeover

Tulip Color Story Craft Room Makeover

Well, we've finally done it ... our craft room makeover is complete and we couldn't be happier (because that also means we're done organizing)! Woo hoo! Not only do we have a beautifully revamped space, it's also much more organized and functional. It's a place we actually want to spend time in and be creative! If you're looking for ideas to give your own craft room a face lift/organizational overhaul, here's a roundup of easy, affordable DIYs using Tulip color products that we did for our space to help get you inspired. What you need: - Tulip Soft Fabric Paints - Tulip Fabric Markers - Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Spray - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint Part of organizing our craft room meant getting our craft supplies in order! Color coding was the best option for us considering we have a lot of Tulip color products we work with on a day-to-day basis. These canisters labeled with Puffy Paint were super easy to make and don't block the contents of the jar so they're easy to see and access when needed. Speaking of color coding, since we have lots of products to keep track of, we decided to color code our shelves that hold all of our craft products for one cohesive look. And it's really pretty too! See how to transform your shelves with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint. Since we were on a spray paint kick with our shelves and had some left over, we decided to make our own matching inspirational sign using wood letters - no hammer and nails needed! We love having our pups around ... so much so that we actually have the option to bring our dogs to work here at the Tulip office! So of course we wanted to make sure we have some comfy dog beds on the ready when our doggies drop by. This tie-dye dog bed was so easy to DIY with our One-Step Tie Dye. Get the tutorial here! A pretty rug is another great way to update the look of a room, but rugs can be super expensive. We found a simple jute rug and decided to give it a whole new look with Tulip Soft Fabric Paint in a cool geometric pattern. Tulip Soft Fabric Paint works on a variety of fabrics and is super opaque, so if jute isn't your style, you can still get creative on other types of rugs! Since we wanted to add a bit of coziness to our space (cozy is ALWAYS a good idea in our book - and so is color!), we decided a throw pillow would be the perfect accent! We DIYed our own using Tulip ColorShot and Fabric Markers since we wanted to stay on budget and also have some fun quote art that pops. Chairs can be expensive, so if you're on a budget, spray paint is a great alternative! We gave our craft room chairs a fun new look with bright ombre color on the legs from COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint. . Baskets are a fantastic way to keep things organized and they are much more stylish than file drawers or basic plastic bins. By now we think you've figured out that we LOVE color around here, so of course we wanted to add lots of it to our baskets! We went with a color blocking theme on rope baskets, but if rope baskets aren't your style, you could totally use Soft Paints on other types of baskets. We had such a blast giving our craft room a colorful new makeover without having to spend much at all. And we hope after seeing ours you are feeling inspired to get started on your own space!

DIY Painted Rope Baskets

By now you might be able to tell that: 1) we love color around here, and 2) we're vibing on this rainbow theme we have going for our craft room makeover - even for accessories like baskets! Baskets are a great way to get organized and they're way prettier to look at than file drawers or basic plastic bins. But of course if we have things our way - and we do in our own studio - we always add more color than what you can usually find in the store. Read on to see how we kicked some simple white rope baskets up a notch with Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paints! What you need:- Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paints in colors of choice- Rope baskets- Flat paintbrushes- Water cup for cleaning brushes- Disposable plastic surface cover- Ruler Since we decided to continue with our rainbow theme, picking a paint palette for our baskets was super easy. Can't find the paint color you're looking for? Don't be afraid to mix up your own custom colors! We also recommend using flat-bristled paintbrushes for color blocking like we did because it's easier to create straight lines and lay the paint down smoothly onto the baskets. We used rope baskets because we liked the look, but you could absolutely do this technique on regular wicker baskets as well. If desired, you can use a ruler to measure and mark off sections before you paint, or you could just wing it if that's more your style! Tip: If you're a super perfectionist, you can mask off each color blocked section with painter's tape, letting dry before you add your next color. Brush on as many coats as needed for your desired opacity. Tulip Soft Paints are very opaque and will even work on dark fabrics! Now we have a set of baskets that brighten up our space and are functional too! Feeling inspired to get organized yet?!

Craft Room Makeover Puffy Paint Canister Labels

Part of getting organized means, well, organizing your stuff. (Obviously.) We've been organizing our craft room, which has been so helpful considering we have a LOT of products hanging around. Color coding and specially labeled canisters have made it so much easier to find the art supplies we are looking for right when we need them. What a concept, right?! Pretty jar labels always help, but we didn't want to cover up the stash of products inside the canisters so that we could easily see them when grabbing product. Enter Puffy Paint. It works on glass, it looks fun and it allows our rainbow of canisters to shine like they're meant to. Read on to see how easy it is to make your own! What you need: - Puffy Paint Rainbow Pack - Glass canisters (desired sizes) - Printed wording for canisters (desired font) - Paper towels - Tape - Toothpick or skewer Make sure your canisters are clean and dry before painting. Print out wording for the jar labels in your desired font and a size that's compatible with your canisters. If you're organizing your art supplies by color, choose paint colors for the labels that match. If you're organizing different kinds of supplies, you can go with the color scheme of your room or just go crazy with color! Whatever makes you happy! Place your printed wording inside of the canisters and tape in place against the inside of the glass. Trace over the wording with Puffy Paint. Tip: try practicing on a paper towel beforehand to get a feel for the paint. Don't worry, if you mess up while applying paint to the glass, you can always wipe away with a damp paper towel and start over! Use a toothpick or skewer to help smooth out any uneven areas of the paint. Let the canisters completely dry and remove the printed wording from inside. How awesome do these color-coded canisters look?! Okay, so getting organized can be fun ... sort of.

Shibori Tie Dye Dog Bed

Shibori Tie Dye Dog Bed

Tie dye doesn't just have to be for people ... our furry family members love it too (even if they don't know it yet)! Skip the same old stuff you find in stores and get creative with pet scarves, T-shirts or even a dog bed like we made (we decided to go big or go home). Okay, you might be thinking, that sounds great, but tie dyeing a dog bed sounds really hard. Spoiler alert: it's not, especially when you use Tulip One-Step Tie Dye! Check out our video below. What you need: - Tulip One-Step Tie Dye - desired colors or kit - 100% cotton white dog bed - Zip ties (or you can use the rubber bands from your tie-dye kit) - Plastic surface cover - Paper towels First choose your tie-dye colors. If you decide to use multiple colors, you can go with a kit option, or select a few 1-color kits. Tip: Just make sure the colors are compatible so that if they blend on the fabric, they don't turn muddy brown (think color theory). Make sure you remove and wash the cotton covering to the dog bed (without fabric softener). You can then take it straight from the washing machine and start binding according to the technique you want to do. If you're not going to be dyeing in after washing, make sure you dampen it before dyeing (not soaking wet, just damp for best results). The technique we show in the video is a bullseye tie-dye pattern, but you can do any tie-dye technique you like! And the beauty of tie dye is that there really is no wrong way to do it. Make sure you follow your One-Step Tie-Dye Kit instructions for tie dyeing and laundering. PS. If you're new to tie dye, here are some helpful tips on how to tie dye and have a great experience! (Tie dyeing is always a great experience but you know what we mean.) Jenz and Otto are also pumped to have a cushy new tie-dye dog bed. We see some colorful dreams in their future!

How To Tie Dye a Dog Bed

How To Tie Dye a Dog Bed

Published Date: March 28, 2019 It's probably pretty obvious that we're big fans of all things tie dye, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that we think our furry friends should be able to enjoy it too! We decided to try our hand at tie dyeing a dog bed (because how cute will a cushy, colorful tie-dye bed look in any room in the house?!), but you can also tie dye pet shirts, scarves and other accessories as long as they're cotton. Think it's hard to tie dye a pet bed? Spoiler alert: it's actually super easy with our One-Step Tie Dye! Skip the buckets and the stress and create a colorful tie-dye pet bed in no time. We'll show you how! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie Dye - desired kit - 100% cotton white pet bed with removable cover - Zip ties (or you can use the rubber bands from your tie-dye kit) - Plastic surface cover - Paper towels Instructions Step 1: First you'll need to select your color palette. We chose to use one color, but you can definitely have fun with it and use multiple tie dye colors. Just make sure they coordinate so that if the dyes blend on the fabric, they turn a nice shade instead of muddy brown (think in terms of red + blue = purple, etc.). You can go with your favorite tie-dye kit or choose several 1-color options. Remove the bed cover and wash it (without fabric softener). You can take it straight from the washing machine to prep for dyeing. If you won't be dyeing it right away, just make sure to dampen it before you bind for tie dyeing. (You don't have to soak it, you just need to make sure it's damp.) Step 3: We chose to do the bullseye tie-dye technique for our dog bed, but you can choose just about any tie-dye technique you'd like! The beauty of tie dye is that there really is no wrong way to do it. Just make sure you follow the instructions that come in your Tulip Tie-Dye Kit for dyeing and laundering. P.S. If you're new to tie dye, here are some helpful basics on how to tie dye that you might find super helpful. Seriously, how cute is Rosco on his new tie-dye dog bed?! Jenz and Otto are living the tie-dye dream too! This makes us want our own tie-dye bedding now!

Tulip Color Story Health and Wellbeing

Here at Tulip, we decided to kick off the year focused on health & wellbeing since it's such an integral part of all of our lives, no matter our age, profession or gender. Check out our roundup and get inspired! What you need: - Tulip Fabric Paints - Tulip Fabric Markers - Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Color A sense of humor goes a long way, and a gym bag is no exception! If you're like us, it's time to take the guess work out of dress work and hit the gym in style and with a sense of humor! It's super easy to DIY your own quote art workout tank with Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Color. Sometimes we have to put our extra cup of coffee down and pick up a water bottle. Or at least have coffee in one hand and water in the other (some of us are fond of this hydration technique in the Tulip office). Having a water tracker bottle you can cart around all day is a fantastic way to help remind you to stay hydrated with your daily water intake needs. Turn a basic one into your new BFF with Tulip Dimensional Paints. Lastly, let's talk about food. Don't say UGGGHHH. It's actually important and this time we aren't talking about pizza. (But we want to if we're being honest.) It can actually be pretty tough to track your balance of carbs, proteins, veggies and fruits when you're on a strict diet, so portion control containers come in really handy. See how easy it is to make your own with Scribbles 3D Paints!

Picture of DIY Custom Painted Yoga Mat

DIY Custom Painted Yoga Mat

Nama-slay your yoga practice with a mat that's so much more! A custom-painted yoga mat is a fun way to get artistic for an afternoon, and a fantastic way to express your own personal style every time you do your yoga workout. Okay, you might be thinking, but where am I going to find a paint that's flexible enough to stay on my mat between workouts and rolling it up and carting it around? We're so glad you asked! Tulip Fabric Paint dries permanent, soft (hence the name) and flexible, so it's perfect for keeping up with your practice. Read on to see our creative flow, then get inspired to start your own! What you need: - Tulip Fabric Paint - desired colors - Yoga mat - Paintbrushes - Paper towels - Painter's tape - Ruler - Paper plate or paint palette First choose your color scheme! You can go with a calming palette or one that's vibrant and energetic - get creative and have fun with it! Lay your yoga mat out flat on your work surface and measure 7 inches up from the bottom (or more or less depending on how much surface area you want to paint). Mask off the section with painter's tape. For our mat, we painted abstract line patterns within the paint space. The beauty of this is there is no wrong way to do it, it doesn't have to be perfect and it looks awesome! You might have your own motif in mind, and that's okay too! Mix up your colors, patterns and line direction for interesting results! When you've filled in all of your lines, take the handle end of your paintbrush and dip in black or another color of paint and create dot patterns. Before the paint completely dries, remove the strip of tape and let the paint dry. Now it's time to put your newly painted mat to work!

3D Paint Water Tracker Bottle

3D Paint Water Tracker Bottle

Staying hydrated is one of the most important things we can do for our bodies, and sometimes that can be a challenge if we spend a lot of time on the go, we work out a lot, or if we're addicted to drinking anything BUT water (more coffee, anyone?). A water tracker bottle you can haul around with you all day is one way to make it easier to get your daily intake of water - and the right amount too! Sure, you could buy one, but since we're fans of DIYing things around here, we think you should make your own instead. All you need is a simple water bottle and Tulip Dimensional Paint; read on to check out our version, then get inspired to make yours! What you need: - Tulip® Dimensional Paint Pack - desired color theme - Plastic water bottle - Word pattern printed in desired font - Paper towels - Tape First choose paint colors that will make you extra thirsty. Just kidding - just pick ones you love! Create a word pattern that's sized to fit your water bottle (not too big, not too small), then roll it enough to fit inside the bottle to use for tracing. Test your paints on a paper towel to get a feel for them before using on your bottle. To create a super fine tip for wording, try wrapping a piece of tape around the paint bottle tip in a cone shape, leaving a very small hole for the paint to travel through. This will funnel the paint flow into a more narrow line. Trace over the wording with Dimensional Paint. You can either move from top to bottom or bottom to top, which ever way you feel more comfortable. If you mess up, don't stress! You can easily wipe away the paint with a damp paper towel and start over while it is still wet. Once you've finished the wording, let the paint dry completely. Use the other paint colors to create fun squiggles between each set of words for tracking water levels. Let dry completely. Once dry, your new water tracker bottle is ready to help keep you hydrated! It's important to note that while Tulip Paints are nontoxic, we recommend not applying any paint near the mouth of the bottle where you'll be drinking from. Hand wash only and air dry.

Picture of DIY Gym Bag with Quote Art

DIY Gym Bag with Quote Art

Let's be honest, the reason most of us work out is so we can eat more pizza, right?!?! In the spirit of cheesy, doughy, saucy goodness (OMG we're so hungry now), and okay, the spirit of hitting the gym every now and then too (or every day if that's your style), we came up with this fun DIY gym bag design that infuses color and humor into our workout routines. Grab a pack of Tulip Graffiti Fabric Markers and maybe a slice - or 5 - of pizza (you know, to help get you inspired) and give those creative muscles a workout with this easy quote art project. What you need: - Tulip Graffiti Fabric Markers - Canvas/cotton gym bag (light color) - Quote art printed in desired font - Tracing paper or cardstock - Craft knife - Pencil - 1/4" masking tape First make sure the gym bag has been washed and dried without fabric softener. Lay it out flat on your work surface and criss cross strips of the 1/4" masking tape to create geometric designs on the center section of the bag. Add as many as you like! Choose your color palette of Graffiti Fabric Markers - don't be afraid to get super colorful! Color in the taped off sections with different marker colors. When you're finished, remove the strips of tape and let the ink dry completely. Create your quote art stencil on card stock or tracing paper. You can either trace a printed quote or hand draw your own and then cut out with a craft knife, leaving the sections around the letters intact. Place over your geometric marker design on the bag and use a pencil to lightly trace the lettering over the design. Color in the letters with a black marker and let dry. Repeat on the other side of the bag if desired. Now that your fab new workout bag is done, you can hit the gym, then grab a pizza to celebrate on your way home!

Puffy Paint DIY Phone Cases

Puffy Paint DIY Phone Cases

Sometimes it’s fun to change up your phone case to match your style, mood or outfit. But why break the bank buying an expensive new phone case, when you can make your own. Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint is an awesome option for creating beautiful DIY phone case designs. One of the things I love most about using dimensional fabric paints for crafting new phone cases is that you can make mistakes and it doesn’t matter! If you make a mistake, wait until the paint is completely dry and then use a toothpick to help peel off the design mistake. Below are three great designs ideas using Dimensional Fabric Paint to help get your creativity flowing. What you need: Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint in a variety of colors. I also used the metallic gold color for accents on one of the cases. Phone Cases - iPhone cases in both white and clear. You can also use a color option if you prefer. Toothpicks Butterfly Design Start with a clear phone case. Outline a butterfly design using white dimensional fabric paint. In rainbow order, start with red on the far side of each wing and create a line of color from the top to bottom on the wing. Add each additional color. As you add more colors, you can make your lines thicker or thinner, depending on how much room you have left. To create the petal design within each wing, use a toothpick and drag a petal- shaped line to the upper corner of the wing. Wiping off the toothpick each time, repeat the same shaped line over and over until the wing is filled. Repeat the above two steps on each wing. Add butterfly antennae and body dots with Gold Metallic Dimensional Paint. Start with a white phone case. You can create one large mandala design or smaller mandala style designs. I prefer smaller mandala designs because when you see them all together the design looks cleaner. With a larger design, mistakes are easier to notice. This type of design would also be beautiful on a colored phone case, using White Dimensional Fabric Paint for the design. Dotted Design Choose a variety of dimensional fabric paint colors (I used 9 different colors). The variety of colors will help give the phone case more dimension. Start with the first color at the top of the phone case and add both larger and small dots. With the second color, try to mix in some of the colored dots within the pattern created by the first color. Continue the steps above down with each color as you move to the bottom of the case. I hope these designs have inspired you to make your own DIY phone cases. You can even mix several of these design ideas together to create new designs. Add dots as borders, create mandala designs around the butterfly or incorporate all three designs into one to make your own customized phone case.

Lace Jeans DIY

Lace Jeans DIY

Luckily for some of us, the ripped jeans trend is still a thing! Over time and with washing and wear and tear, however, those rips can get bigger and bigger and end up not being so wearable anymore. One fab solution we're big fans of is adding some lace! Reinforcing your ripped jeans with swatches of lace helps keep the tears from expanding and it's a super cute way to customize your look without spending much at all. Just grab a tube of Aleene's Super Fabric Adhesive, a few swatches of lace and you're ready to rock your own no-sew lace jeans! What you need: - Aleene's Super Fabric Adhesive - Ripped jeans - Lace swatches - Scissors - Cardboard or heavy cardstock/paper Trim away loose fringe from around holes in jeans. Turn jeans inside out. Trim cardboard or heavy cardstock to fit inside each leg to prevent glue from soaking through to backside. Trim lace swatch to fit over tears. You can either use one large panel or cut lace to fit over each hole. Make sure the lace is larger than the tears. Use Super Fabric Adhesive to glue lace around tears. Let dry completely, then remove cardboard from inside jean legs and turn right side out. Make sure to wait at least 3 days before washing to let the glue fully cure. Take your newly upcycled lace jeans out for some fun!

What you need: - Aleene's Original Tacky Glue - Cardstock or construction paper - pinks and reds or colors of choice - Paper plate - Ribbon - color to match - Scissors - Pencil Draw or trace hearts of all different sizes onto different cardstock colors and cut out. Cut out the center of the paper plate to create the wreath base. Glue some of the smaller hearts on top of the larger hearts to create layers. Glue hearts around the paper plate base, starting with the larger hearts and layering medium and smaller hearts as you glue. Let dry. Once the hearts have dried, flip the wreath base over to backside and add a dot of glue to the top. Cut a piece of ribbon and loop it to create hanger, then press the ends in the dot of glue. Let dry completely. Hang and enjoy!

Step 6: Apply green dye or desired dye color(s) to remainder of shirt. Carefully check to make sure dye has soaked through to backside and add more dye as needed. Step 7: Place dyed shirt in a plastic sealable bag and let set 6 to 8 hours or overnight. Rinse and wash according to instructions.
