Glue Resist DIY Tie-Dye Patterns

Glue Resist DIY Tie-Dye Patterns

Published Date: June 14, 2021 We’re always in the mood to try something new with tie dye! Twists and folds are fun, and combining them with a glue resist technique will take your tie dye to the next level. In this easy tutorial, Oh Yay Studio shows you how to use glue to create a resist for DIY tie-dye patterns that combine color with your own creative designs! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Canvas tote bag - Wire rack + plastic bin - Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue - Iron - Pencil - Plastic bag - Spray bottle (optional) Instructions Sketch design on tote with a pencil First you’ll want to decide what kind of DIY tie-dye patterns to create for your resist technique. Iron the tote so you have a nice, smooth surface to lightly sketch your designs on with a pencil. You can even place a design pattern underneath the top layer of the tote to trace over if you don’t feel like free handing it. Apply Tacky Glue over designs Now it’s time to create a resist over your DIY tie-dye patterns. Trace over your sketched designs with Tacky Glue, applying a generous amount (but not SUPER thick so it pools and ruins your designs). You can always practice your glue application on a piece of scratch paper first to get a feel for the glue flow. Let glue dry After you’ve covered over your designs with Tacky Glue, let the tote dry flat until the glue is completely dry. Tacky Glue dries clear Tacky Glue dries clear, so it should look like this. There shouldn’t be any “white” left – that would indicate the glue isn’t dry yet. For the resist technique to work properly, don’t skip this step! Dampen tote and bind with rubber bands Next dampen your tote all over with a spray bottle, then crumple it and bind it with rubber bands. Or, you can leave the tote dry if you want “crisper” DIY tie-dye patterns and less color blending with the dyes. It’s up to you! Then place it on a wire rack over a bin and prep your dye bottles according to instructions. Apply dyes to tote Squeeze the dyes any way you like over the tote! Make sure to rotate the tote bag as you apply the dyes, so you cover it from all different angles. Tip: Use the tip of the dye bottles or your gloved hands to help work the dye into the fabric fibers if needed. After you’ve applied the dyes, place the tote in a plastic bag to keep it damp while the dyes process for 6-8 hours or overnight. Soak tote to remove glue resist After the dyes have fully processed, remove the rubber bands and thoroughly rinse the tote under running water until the runoff is clear. Next fill your sink (or a bin) with warm water, adding enough to cover the tote lying open and flat. Allow the tote to soak for at least 30 minutes so the glue begins to soften and lift off the fabric. You might need to use your fingers to help scrape any excess residue. Soak, rinse and wash tote Don’t be alarmed if your DIY tie-dye patterns look a bit murky after removing the glue resist; sometimes the dye sits on top the glue so they should clear up once all glue is removed. Continue soaking in warm water and removing the glue until all residue is gone. Then wash and dry the tote separately according to instructions. DIY Tie-Dye Patterns with Glue Resist We looooove how this turned out! Isn’t it such a cool way to create different DIY tie-dye patterns? Now you’re ready to hit the farmer’s market or your friend’s pool party in total tie-dye style. What are you thinking of making with tie dye and glue resist? Mommy and Me Tie-Dye Dresses

Mommy and Me Tie-Dye Dresses

It’s the perfect time of year to start sporting flowy dresses in fabulous colors! Get your whole girl crew – even the littlest members – in on the fashionable fun with matching tie-dye dresses. Pretty Life Girls will show you how to use the ice dye tie-dye technique with Tulip Tie Dye to make the coolest mommy and me dresses around! You can even get your littles in on the adventure for a Mother’s Day gift, creative activity or just because it’s fun to tie dye! What you need: - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Tulip Soda Ash - Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Containers (optional) - White 100% cotton dresses - Wire rack/grate - Ice - Plastic bucket or bin Before getting started on tie dyeing your mommy and me dresses, make sure your dresses are 100% cotton for best and brightest results. You don’t HAVE to presoak the dresses in soda ash when working with Tulip One-Step Dyes, but Pretty Life Girls opted to – and you totally can too! If you aren’t soaking in soda ash, make sure to wash the dresses without fabric softener before tie dyeing, especially if they are brand new. If you’re using soda ash, prep the soda ash according to instructions and soak the dresses for 20 minutes. After soaking the dresses, ring them out thoroughly (and leave damp), then crumple each dress and place on a wire rack over a bucket or bin (to catch the dye runoff when the ice melts). You can also try a different tie-dye technique; it doesn’t have to be a crumple pattern. Get creative and have fun exploring tie dye! Next cover the dresses entirely with ice, then sprinkle dry dye powders from the dye bottles over the top of the ice. There’s no strategy to it, and no wrong way to do it! Just sprinkle the dye colors however you want to. Let the ice melt completely. As the ice melts, it will transfer the dye onto the dresses! To speed up the dye set process after the ice melts, Pretty Life Girls decided to use Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Containers to microwave their tie-dye dresses. Important: Make sure the dresses are completely damp with no dry spots before microwaving, and carefully follow the instructions that the containers come with. After your mommy and me tie-dye dresses are done processing, rinse and wash according to instructions. Then you and your little will be ready to rock your matching tie dye for any and every occasion! Shamrock Tie-Dye T-shirt

St. Patrick’s Day Activity: Shamrock Tie Dye

Today is your lucky day! This St. Patrick’s Day activity is fun for the whole family, and doesn’t require any work hunting for little guys in green. Craft Box Girls will show you how to make a shamrock tie-dye shirt using One-Step Dye and a resist technique with nontoxic glue. It’s easy enough for all ages, and everyone will have their own lucky T-shirt when the tie-dye fun is done! What you need: - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit in Green (1 kit per T-shirt) - White 100% cotton T-shirt (for each person) - Disposable plastic surface cover - Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue - Scissors - Sealable plastic bag - Pattern printed from this post Before getting started on your St. Patrick’s Day activity, print out the shamrock pattern from this post and cut it out. (Or you can make your own!) Wash and dry your T-shirt without fabric softener, and protect your work surface with a disposable plastic table cover. Lay the dry T-shirt flat on your work surface and place the shamrock pattern in the center of the shirt. Squeeze a thick line of Tacky Glue around the pattern, directly onto the shirt, then use your finger to help spread the glue and press it into the fabric. You’ll want about a 1-inch thick line of glue around your shamrock. Peel away the pattern and let the glue dry completely before moving on to the next step. (Once dry, the glue will resist absorbing the dye when applied to the fabric.) Now onto the tie-dye portion of this fun St. Patrick’s Day activity! Once the glue is dry, dampen the shirt, but do not oversaturate, as too much water will make the glue tack up again. Lay the damp shirt out flat on your work surface then pinch the fabric in the center and twist the entire shirt into a spiral shape. Once the glue is dry, dampen the shirt, but do not oversaturate, as too much water will make the glue tack up again. Repeat on the back side, then place into the Two-Minute Tie-Dye Container and process according to instructions. NOTE: Make sure the T-shirt is completely damp before processing in the microwave. If any portion has dried out, even a little bit, re-dampen by spritzing with water. For the stripes tie-dye top, Craft Box Girls wrapped rubber bands around the top every few inches, including the sleeves. Apply dyes to the top, alternating colors in between the banded sections. Make sure to rotate the top as you apply the dyes so you get all sides. Once you’ve added the dyes, place in the container and process according to instructions. For the bullseye tie-dye T-shirt, pinch the damp shirt in the center of where you want your bullseye design to be, then pull the entire shirt into a tube shape. Wrap rubber bands around the shirt every few inches, then apply your chosen dye colors. Alternate colors between the banded sections, rotating the shirt as you apply the dyes so you get all sides. How to Throw a Tie-Dye Party in Your Backyard

How to Throw a Tie-Dye Party in Your Backyard

Published Date: August 17, 2020 We’re all staying close to home these days, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate special occasions or enjoy fun activities outdoors with close friends and family. We’re feeling super inspired by this amazingly bright backyard tie-dye party our friends over at Beijos Events threw for their kids, and we just have to share. So, if you’ve been searching for fun party ideas you can do outdoors, or you’ve been obsessing over tie dye lately (we can’t think of anything better to obsess over) and are wondering how to throw a tie-dye party, get the deets here. Are you ready for the best backyard party ever?! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kits of choice - White 100% cotton T-shirts - Colorful plastic table covers - Sealable plastic bags + permanent marker for labeling - Paper towels - Colorful decorations like balloons, flowers, etc. - Colorful napkins, paper plates and plastic utensils – choose lots of different colors - Colorful snacks of course! Instructions Tie-dye party invitations Are you ready to learn how to throw a tie-dye party that’ll make you the coolest parent/friend/neighbor ever?! First things first: invitations. There are a ton of options online to affordably create party invitations – get creative and add lots of color. It IS a tie-dye party after all! Tie-dye party table setting Now that you have the invites out, let’s set the stage. To throw a tie-dye party, you’ll want to decorate your backyard with lots of COLOR. Don’t be afraid to go full rainbow with it, mixing in lots of different colors with your party decorations. This doesn’t have to be expensive either. You can create a balloon arch as a backdrop (which also serves as a great photo spot for guests), and even use a wild mix of bright flowers as your table centerpieces. Colorful place settings for a backyard tie-dye party Paper plates and cups make cleanup at the end of the party extra easy; you can toss ‘em and move on! And luckily, finding them in a bunch of different colors is also easy and affordable. Have fun mixing & matching a variety of different-colored paper plates and cups into your place settings. And if you’re feeling extra fancy, you can even create cute little name cards for each guest like the Beijos crew. Prep dye bottles before the party starts Now it’s time for the tie dye! Cover all work areas with disposable plastic tablecloths to protect your surfaces while working with the dyes. Make sure to have paper towels handy, as well as sealable plastic bags the kids can store their tie-dye projects in while the dye processes. (Plus, it’s a great way to keep messes contained so they’re not setting their wet dye projects on other surfaces!) To speed things up, you can prep your dye bottles before the party starts, just keep in mind that you’ll want to do it less than 24 hours before the party. Dyes can lose their concentration after 24 hours, so we recommend waiting until just before the party starts. Dampen shirts and bind for desired tie-dye technique When it’s time to tie dye, have the kids (or hey, grownups too – tie dye is for everyone!) dampen their shirts in a bucket of water or under the faucet and wring out. Have them choose the tie-dye technique they want to try from the instruction guides included in your Tulip Tie-Dye Kits. Or you can find even more ideas on our tie-dye techniques page. Put on plastic gloves before dyeing projects Once the T-shirts are scrunched, folded and held secure with rubber bands, it’s time to add the tie dye! Each tie-dye kit comes with protective plastic gloves, so have everyone put on their gloves before working with the dyes. Add dye to projects – experiment and have fun Depending on the tie-dye technique, everyone can choose from one to as many dye colors as they like. They can follow the instruction guide or completely do their own thing. There’s no wrong way to tie dye! The most important thing about a tie-dye party is the experience of having fun being creative. Once everyone has tie dyed their T-shirt, place each shirt in a separate sealable bag and write the person’s name on their bag so they can take it home with them at the end of the tie-dye party. Backyard tie-dye party The fun doesn’t end after the tie dye though! It’s time to toast to a totally awesome backyard party, don’t you think?! Serve colorful treats at your backyard tie-dye party And let’s not forget about the snacks … you’ll want colorful treats to serve everyone to go along with your tie-dye theme. Popsicles offer so many colors and flavor options, and are a refreshing way to stay cool during time outdoors! Cupcakes, cookies and fruits are also great colorful treat options. Use balloons as a colorful tie-dye party photo backdrop You can’t have a tie-dye party without photos! A mix of colorful balloons makes the perfect backdrop for tie-dye party photos. How to throw a tie-dye party in your backyard Now that you know how to throw a tie-dye party in your backyard that everyone will remember, make the most of the warm days we’re still having. Grab your favorite tie-dye kits and your favorite people, and have some outrageously colorful fun!

This is VERY important for when you microwave it in the Two Minute Tie-Dye Container because you don’t want to risk burning the dress. Mikyla used two colors for this dress, but you can choose as many as you like! Get patriotic with the Tulip Americana One-Step Tie-Dye Kit, which not only includes tie dye in shades of blue and red, but iron-on crystals and transfers so you can make embellished tie-dye creations that are awesomely Americana. Crafterward shows you how to DIY your own twinkling flag-inspired tie-dye T-shirt that you can sport on the Fourth and all summer long. Supplies needed - Tulip Americana One-Step Tie-Dye Kit - White 100% cotton T-shirt - Iron or heat-setting tool - Thin cloth - Disposable plastic table cover - Sealable plastic bag Instructions Prewash T-shirt and cover work surface Your Americana One-Step Tie-Dye Kit comes with all of the embellishments you need to make your own stars & stripes tie-dye T-shirt and other patriotic tie-dye creations. First you’ll want to tie dye your T-shirt before ironing on crystals or transfers. Wash your shirt (without fabric softener) and leave it damp. Make sure to cover your work surface with a disposable plastic cover before getting started on your tie dye! Pleat T-shirt and secure with rubber bands Lay your damp shirt out on your covered work surface and pleat it horizontally from the bottom hem to the shoulders using the stripes tie-dye technique. Secure your pleated shirt with rubber bands from your kit, evenly spacing your rubber bands about 2 inches apart. Add as many rubber bands as stripes you want to create, leaving a larger section of loose fabric at the top. Apply red and turquoise dyes to bound T-shirt Mix your red and turquoise dye with water according to instructions, then apply red dye to every other banded section. Apply turquoise dye to the top of the T-shirt, leaving the fabric crumpled a bit as you apply the dye. Make sure to rotate your bound T-shirt as you add dye so you get all sides. Once you’ve added the dyes, place your shirt into a sealable plastic bag and allow to set for the time recommended. Then remove the rubber bands, rinse and launder according to instructions. Heat set crystals onto T-shirt To heat set crystals onto the turquoise section of your shirt, first make sure your shirt is dry and ironed smooth. Place your crystals where you’d like them, and if using an iron, place a thin cloth over the top. Heat your iron without the steam setting on, then press the iron over the tops of the covered crystals, working in sections. Follow the instructions on your kit for full heat setting details. Check the crystals once they’ve cooled to make sure they are permanently set to the fabric, and add more heat if needed. Tulip DIY Americana Tie-Dye T-shirt Once your crystals are in place, you’re ready to shine in star-spangled style for the Fourth! You can also add transfers, change up your striping and so much more. Make your Americana tie-dye experience completely your own!

Our friend Mikyla Creates came up with these awesome ideas for dressing Dad (or the special guy in your life) in the season’s coolest trend – tie dye! See how to easily make three different tie-dye men’s shirt designs, because dads can wear tie dye too! Supplies needed - Tulip Two-Minute Tie Dye Kit of choice - White 100% cotton button-up men’s shirt - White 100% cotton long-sleeve men’s shirt or T-shirt - Disposable plastic surface cover - Scissors NOTE: For the shirts, make sure fabric is 100% cotton, does not contain any metal and buttons are microwave safe. Instructions Prewash shirts and cover work surface with plastic Before starting, wash all of the shirts (without fabric softener) and leave damp. Cover your work surface with a disposable plastic surface cover and prep your dyes by mixing with water according to instructions. Rainbow stripes tie-dye men’s shirt You can easily create this bright rainbow stripes tie-dye look on a long-sleeve or short-sleeve T-shirt. Follow the same steps to create either version! Pleat and bind for the stripes tie-dye technique, then add dyes Lay the damp shirt out flat on your covered work surface, then follow the stripes tie-dye technique for creating horizontal pleats on the top half of the shirt. Bind your pleated shirt with as many rubber bands as you’ll need to section off the amount of stripes you want on the shirt. Example: this shirt has 3 stripes, so you’d need 4 rubber bands. Add a different dye color to each banded section, rotating the fabric so you get the portions on the underside as well. Microwave according to instructions Once you’ve finished adding your dyes, make sure your fabric is still completely damp. If any portion has dried, mist with a spray bottle to re-dampen before placing into your Two-Minute Tie Dye container. Process in the microwave according to instructions. Men’s crumple tie-dye dress shirt There is everything right about a man in a pink tie-dye dress shirt, but you can recreate this look with any color you choose! The Two-Minute Tie Dye containers work with any Tulip One-Step Dye, so if you want a different color than what comes in your kit, you can absolutely use it. Check out our 1-Color Kits for other options. Crumple and bind shirt, then add dye Lay the damp dress shirt out flat on your work surface and follow the crumple tie-dye technique to scrunch the entire shirt. Bind with rubber bands to keep the pattern tight and super defined, then add your dye color all over the entire crumpled shirt. Once finished, place in your container and process in the microwave according to instructions. Half crumple tie-dye men’s dress shirt To create a half crumple tie-dye shirt, follow the same crumple tie-dye technique above, but on only half of the shirt. Crumple, bind and dye half of the shirt When processing in the microwave, you’ll still want to make sure the entire shirt is damp before placing into the container, even the undyed portion. Try to keep the undyed half in half of the container and the crumpled, dyed half to the other side so as not to get any unwanted dye on the undyed half. Process in the microwave according to instructions. Tulip Tie-Dye Men’s Shirts With all of these fantastic men’s tie-dye shirts to wear, your dad (or the special guy in your life) will be super stylin’ in a colorful way all year long!

Supplies needed - Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit of choice - White 100% cotton handkerchiefs - Disposable plastic surface cover Instructions Twist damp handkerchief into a swirl Prep your work surface by covering with a disposable plastic surface cover, then wash your handkerchiefs (without fabric softener) and leave damp. Decide which tie-dye techniques you want to try on your handkerchiefs. For this one, Club Crafted used the spiral tie-dye technique. Lay your damp handkerchief out flat, then pinch the fabric in the center and twist it into a swirl. Bind with rubber bands Bind your swirled handkerchief with 3 rubber bands, crisscrossing the rubber bands to create 6 wedge shapes. Set aside. Accordion pleat and bind for the stripes tie-dye technique For the next handkerchief, Club Crafted used the stripes tie-dye technique. Accordion pleat your entire damp handkerchief with even pleats, then bind by wrapping rubber bands spaced along the handkerchief. Set aside. Triangle fold accordion style the next handkerchief For the last handkerchief, Club Crafted used the triangle fold, a technique similar to the folding tie-dye technique to create a cool grid pattern. To achieve this, lay the damp handkerchief out flat, then accordion fold the fabric from one side all the way to the other. Starting at one end, fold one corner over to meet the folded edge on the opposite side, forming a triangle shape. Fold this triangle shape back, accordion style, creating another triangle section. Continue accordion folding your triangle folds across the length of your fabric. Bind with a rubber band around each corner. Apply dye to projects Add water to your dye bottles and shake to mix, then apply desired colors to each of your bound handkerchiefs. You can add the dye in any patterns you like - there's really no wrong way to do it! Don't forget to flip your projects over and apply dye to the other sides as well. Microwave according to instructions Check to make sure your projects are still damp in all areas. If any portion has dried, mist with a spray bottle to re-dampen. It's important that the projects are completely damp when microwaving so as not to scorch the fabric. Place your dyed projects into the Two-Minute Tie-Dye Container and snap the lid securely shut. Process according to your instructions. Remove rubber bands, rinse and launder according to instructions Once your handkerchiefs have processed and cooled according to the instructions in your kit, remove the rubber bands, then rinse and launder per your instructions. Bring in the spirit and fun of the biggest summer bashes, even if the bash is now virtual! There’s no reason not to celebrate life’s little moments, and this adorable and easy project will be there to remind you of all you have to enjoy! Supplies needed Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit of choice 100% cotton white cloth napkins Rotary cutter and a cutting mat, or scissors Double-sided tape Yarn or string A plastic cover to protect your workspace Microwave Oven mitts Disposable plastic surface cover Instructions Swirl and bind damp cloth napkins Prep your workspace by protecting it with a disposable plastic cover. Wash your white cloth napkins (without fabric softener), making sure they are completely damp. For this garland, Handmade Charlotte used the spiral tie-dye technique, but feel free to use any tie-dye technique you’d like! To make the spiral design, lay your damp cloth napkin flat on your work surface. Pinch the center of the cloth between your fingers and twist your wrist in a clockwise motion until you create a spiral. Crisscross two rubber bands in an ‘X’ shape to secure. Add water to dye bottles and shake to mix Mix your dye! Fill your One-Step Dye bottles to the fill line, tighten the lid so it is secure, and shake until the dye is completely dissolved. Do this for all colors you wish to add to your garland. Add dye colors to fabric Put on the gloves provided in the kit and get ready to dye your spiral. Handmade Charlotte uses two colors on each cloth in an alternating pattern for her design, but you can use as many colors as you’d like, such as a different color for each wedge! Think about how you can incorporate your favorite color combos and get to work dyeing the segments of your spiral. Be sure to saturate each segment fully with color, and don’t forget to flip your bound fabric over and add dye to matching sections on the back side. Place dyed fabric into Two-Minute Tie Dye Container Once you’ve added your dye colors, make sure the fabric is still completely damp before placing it into the Two Minute Tie-Dye container. If any portion of the fabric has dried, mist with a spray bottle until saturated again. Close the lid tightly and microwave for the time recommended in the instructions based on your project and microwave wattage. Wearing oven mitts, carefully take the container out of the microwave, and let it cool for 15 minutes with the lid still intact so your dye can finish processing. Open the lid and let the fabric cool for an additional few minutes, until it is cool to the touch. Check out your product instructions for more detailed information! Rinse and launder fabric napkins according to instructions Once the project is cool, carefully cut off the bands to see your design! Rise the cloth under cool water until the water runs clear, then proceed to wash and dry the fabric according to kit instructions. Cut cloth into desired shapes After your fabric is clean and dry, using a rotary cutter and cutting mat or scissors, cut your cloth napkins into smaller squares, rectangles or any shape or design you can think of! Leave one top edge of each piece of fabric with a straight edge so you can attach it to the string in the next step. Attach string to fabric with double-sided tape Lay out your cut shapes in the order you want them for your garland, with the straight edges in line along the top. Keep a small and even space between each cloth. Apply a piece of double-sided tape to the top edge of each cloth and lay one piece of yarn or string along the tape. Fold the top over into the tape to secure the fabric to the string. Repeat process, creating a new strand for each color, or have fun with it and mix and match your tie-dye fabric any way you like! Display your garland just the way you like Hang your garland in front of your favorite video chat background and be prepared to immediately want to celebrate the (virtual) night away! PS. When the fun is done, hang your tie-dye garland in any room for added color that’ll make you smile on the daily.

How to Make a Tie-Dye Picnic Blanket

How to Make a Tie-Dye Picnic Blanket

Summer is just around the corner and that means sunbaths, pool days, and backyard picnics! And nothing ties together a perfect picnic on a lazy, sunny afternoon quite like lounging on a bright, happy tie-dye blanket. Using a Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit, Club Crafted shows us how to add the quintessential splash of summer color to all of our upcoming backyard adventures faster than ever before! Lying poolside has never felt so refreshing, with colors that rival sweet berries and juicy watermelon, you’ll adore this delicious summer accessory to brighten up your private oasis year-round! What you need: Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit A thin, white 100% cotton blanket or a Turkish towel A plastic cover to protect your workspace Microwave Oven mitts First, wash your blanket and make sure it is completely saturated with water. Wring out the excess water, but make sure the material stays sufficiently damp so that way it won’t scorch later on in the microwave! Be sure to protect your work surface with a disposable plastic covering before getting started with your dyes. Mix your dye! Fill the Tulip Two Minute Tie-Dye bottle to the fill line, tighten the lid so it is secure, and shake to mix until the dye is completely dissolved. Repeat with all the colors you wish to add to your blanket. Along the folded edge of the blanket, starting on one side, wrap a rubber band around a third of the fabric a few inches down from the top of the fold. Wrap another one around the bound fabric about an inch above the first. Repeat this twice more with the remaining thirds of the blanket as shown. Bind the rest of the blanket with two more rubber bands, several inches apart. This is just one way to do it, but feel free to get creative with how you tie your blanket! Put on the gloves provided in the kit and apply the dye to the areas of your blanket you wish to add color to. Rotate the blanket as you add dye, applying the dye between the folds and to all sides. Leave white space between the different colors so they don’t mix and become muddy. Make sure to flip your blanket over and repeat this process on the other side until you achieve your desired look! Immediately place your dyed blanket into the Two Minute Tie-Dye container. Make sure your blanket is still completely damp before placing it into the container. If any portion of your blanket has dried, mist with a spray bottle until damp again. Adjust your blanket if needed to completely fit into the container and close tightly. Next, microwave it for the time recommended in the instructions based on the size of your project and microwave wattage. Wearing oven mitts, carefully take the container out of the microwave, and let it cool for 15 minutes with the lid still intact. Open the lid and let the blanket cool for an additional few minutes, until it is cool to the touch. Check out your product instructions for more detailed information! Once your blanket is ready, carefully cut the rubber bands off to reveal your unique design! Rinse and launder your blanket according to the kit instructions. Be it a picnic, pool day, or an afternoon nap, your custom new creation is ready to be the perfect accessory for all of your summertime adventures!

Tulip Reverse Tie-Dye Galaxy Wall Hanging

Reverse Tie-Dye Galaxy Wall Hanging

Take your kids' imagination to a galaxy far, far away with this Reverse Tie-Dye Galaxy Wall Hanging project! Perfect for kids who enjoy outerspace themes, this fun space craft from Handmade Charlotte will send their creativity out into orbit. Pair the Tulip Reverse Tie-Dye Kit with Tulip Puff Paints for out-of-this-world wall hangings that are perfect for decorating any aspiring astronaut's room. What you need: - Tulip Reverse Tie-Dye Kit - Tulip Puff Paints - desired colors - Black 100% cotton fabric (like a T-shirt or cloth napkins) - Chalk - Wooden dowel or skewers - Double-stick tape - Scissors - String Before painting your fabric, you're going to want to create cool galaxy effects using the Reverse Tie-Dye Kit, which removes color from darker fabrics. Cover your work surface with a disposable plastic cover before getting started. Wash and dry your 100% natural black fabric (like cotton); this project uses cotton cloth napkins but you could cut up a T-shirt as well. Read over the instructions that come in the kit to prep your supplies. Since we wanted to create a galaxy night sky look, we used the crumple tie-dye technique. Simply lay the fabric out on your work surface and scrunch it all together, then secure with the included rubber bands. Repeat for as many wall hangings as you’d like to make. Prepare the Color Changer by adding water up to the line on the bottle and shaking to mix. Make sure to follow all of the safety precautions listed in the kit instructions. Apply the Color Changer onto your crumpled black fabric (make sure you are working on a protected work surface)! Start by applying a little bit at first to both sides and let it sit for a couple minutes - you’ll see the colors start to change and you can add more Color Changer if you like. Do this for all fabric pieces. Monitor your fabric every few minutes and once it has lightened to your liking, cut off the rubber bands and launder according to the kit instructions. Once your fabric pieces have been laundered, lay them out flat on your work surface for cutting and shaping. Cut the fabric pieces into the size and shape of wall hangings you want. Use chalk to sketch out space-themed designs and words - have fun with it! Outline and fill in your designs with Dimensional Paints. Once you're done painting, let the fabric pieces dry completely before moving on to the next step. Fold the top edge of the wall hanging over to the back side and secure with double-stick tape to form a sleeve for threading a wooden dowel (or long wooden skewer) through. Cut the ends to trim if needed. Hang as is by resting on two nails on the wall, or tie a piece of string to both ends of the wooden skewer to create a hanger. This is one space craft the kids will get to keep enjoying "light-years" after they finish the actual project!

Candy-Inspired Two-Minute Tie Dye Shirts - bind shirt Bind your scrunched shirt with rubber bands to hold the shirt secure. Candy-Inspired Two-Minute Tie Dye Shirts - mix dye For a bubblegum look, mix up pink One-Step Dye according to instructions. Candy-Inspired Two-Minute Tie Dye Shirts - apply dye Apply dye over the entire shirt, flipping it over and applying to the backside as well. Candy-Inspired Two-Minute Tie Dye Shirts - microwave in container Make sure your shirt is still completely damp before placing in the Two-Minute Tie-Dye Container. If any part has dried, re-dampen. Snap the lid closed and microwave your shirt according to instructions. Candy-Inspired Two-Minute Tie Dye Shirts - microwave in container Once your shirt has processed and cooled according to instructions, remove the rubber bands and rinse it. If you want to achieve a "double-bubble" effect like Handmade Charlotte, repeat the entire scrunching, binding and dye process with a darker shade of pink for twice the effect! Bullseye Berry Cotton Candy T-shirt For the berry cotton candy shirt, Handmade Charlotte used the bullseye tie-dye technique. To mix it up, she started the bullseye off to the side instead of the center of the shirt. To do this, lay out your shirt flat on your work surface and pinch the spot to the side of the shirt where you want the center of the bullseye to be. Pull the fabric upward into a tube shape and wrap a rubber band around the bunched fabric a few inches below the point to create the innermost circle. Comfort Zone: DIY Tie-Dye Loungewear

Published Date: April 17, 2020 Whether you're working or schooling from home or you're not even sure what day it is, chances are, loungewear is your new go-to daily outfit choice. Is anyone even wearing jeans at this point? Pass the sweats and leggings please! Since we're all pretty much laying low right now, we recommend chillin' in style with tie-dye loungewear. Not only is tie dyeing your stuff a fun creative activity (that you really can't mess up if you tried because all tie dye is cool), but you get something awesome to wear afterward. Check out this roundup of comfy tie-dye DIYs that'll have you ready for your next video chat with no extra effort! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - 100% cotton hoodie or sweatshirt in white - 100% cotton leggings or sweats in white - 100% cotton tank top or T-shirt in white Instructions Pastel Stripe Tie-Dye Sweatshirt Right now we're vibing with soft color palettes like pastels and other cool tones. They help put us in a zen state of mind! This simple pastel stripes tie-dye design across a cozy sweatshirt is all about total relaxation. You can keep it simple with just a few stripes like we did, or add stripes to your entire sweatshirt; get creative with it! Pastel Crumple Tie-Dye Sweatshirt Doesn't this hoodie remind you of a softer version of camo? Create this cozy vibe by watering down your dyes to make them extra pastel, then using the crumple tie-dye technique on the entire hoodie (don't forget to flip it over and dye the backside as well). You can use a mix of your favorite dye colors with the crumple technique, or one color if you want to keep it super simple! Another way to get this cool watercolor pastel look is with the ice dye technique; you don't even have to add water to your dyes - just sprinkle them over the ice on your hoodie and let the ice do the work! Ombre Tie-Dye Tank Top A soft tank top is perfect for lounging, especially as the weather starts to warm up! Recreate this simple ombre tie-dye design by mixing up your dye and squeezing it directly from the bottle onto the tank top, applying more dye at the bottom and less as you work up towards the top. Try blending several dye colors for a fun variation, or applying the dye to the top section instead. Tie-Dye Leggings We don't know about you, but we're basically in leggings 24/7 right now, and we're not sorry about it. We're just sorry we don't have MORE LEGGINGS. Treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind set with tie dye! You'll want to make sure your leggings are 100% cotton so you can dye them, then check out our tie-dye leggings tutorial to see how we created this cool inverted V tie-dye pattern. We opted for simple black dye, but you could absolutely recreate this same pattern using multiple colors, or trying a completely different tie-dye technique on your leggings. Ice Dye Pastel Tie-Dye Sweatshirt Remember that ice dye technique we mentioned for the hoodie above? Try combining it with the stripe tie-dye technique for this seriously cool effect! First you'd bind your sweatshirt in vertical stripes (if you're going for this same look), then apply dyes using the ice dye technique. The result is chill loungewear that looks as good as it feels!

Rainbow Tie-Dye Projects To Brighten Your Day

Rainbow Tie-Dye Projects To Brighten Your Day

Published Date: April 14, 2020 Brighten your day with rainbow-colored tie dye! It's the perfect way to spread some extra cheer whether you're walking past your sibs in the living room or walking your dog through the neighborhood. If you haven't discovered this already, tie dye is a super fun activity, there's no wrong way to do it, and you can seriously grab an old T-shirt or hoodie from your closet and give it new life with bold colors and tie-dye patterns. Pick up your favorite Tulip Tie-Dye Kit and follow the rainbow this way to discover 6 ways to make tie-dye magic! Supplies needed - Tulip Tie-Dye Kit of choice - 100% cotton T-shirt, hoodie, tank top or denim shorts - Disposable plastic table cover Instructions Rainbow Stripe Tie-Dye Hoodie A lot of the country is still bundling up from winter chills at the moment, so a cozy hoodie is the perfect way to stay warm while lounging in style. A rainbow stripe tie-dye pattern across the front will add some sunshine to your day, even if it's blustery outside. To achieve this more abstract effect, get your hoodie extra damp before dyeing, and don't wrap your rubber bands as tightly around the fabric. You can even skip binding with the rubber bands and squeeze on the dyes right into one another so they lightly blend. Have fun and experiment with it! Rainbow Swirl Tie-Dye Hoodie And here's one more hoodie in case you want to try a different tie-dye technique on your loungewear than the stripe technique we mentioned above. The spiral tie-dye pattern is so easy to create, and is awesome for working with a lot of dye colors (although you could just stick to one color if you really want to). To create this kind of effect with a lot of white space in between colors, make sure your hoodie is less damp, and leave undyed white space between your rubber bands. If you want a ton of bold color though, apply that dye all the way to the bands and make sure to really saturate your fabric! Rainbow Tie-Dye Shorts Summer is just around the corner, and that means shorts season will be in full effect. (If you're in a warmer state like Cali you might already be wearing shorts!) Give a faded pair of cutoffs new life with outrageously bright tie-dye effects; you can freestyle it (that's the great thing about Tulip One-Step Dyes coming in squeeze bottles) or you can bind the shorts with rubber bands or zip ties to get a specific look. These shorts feature the stripe tie-dye technique in a vertical pattern (so pleating the shorts from waist to bottom edge and evenly spacing zip ties into about 9 sections). It's up to you how many different colored sections you want to try! Rainbow Sunburst Tie-Dye Tank Top The sunburst tie-dye technique sounds perfect for summertime, doesn't it?! Add in super bright rainbow colors and a tank top, and you'll be beaming with cheer whether you're headed to bed or out on a hike. The sunburst might actually be one of the easiest tie-dye techniques ever (we know we say that a lot but we really mean it). For this tank, bind the center with one rubber band and lay the rest of the top out flat. Add one dye color to the bound section and in a triangular shape on a portion of the top. Repeat with other dyes in triangular patterns as shown. Look at you, BURSTING with tie-dye creativity! Rainbow Stripe Tie-Dye Tank Top Okay one more tank top idea for you, since in addition to just having something cool to wear in the summer, they're also great for working out and for pajamas as well. If you want a true rainbow pattern, the stripe tie-dye technique in a rainbow palette is the way to go. We made our stripes thin for this tank, but feel free to widen them or have your stripes span the entire length of your top. You could even run them diagonally if you want! Rainbow Stripe Tie-Dye T-shirt Here's a variation of the tank top above, because maybe tank tops aren't your thing, or you also want a T-shirt in a similar style! Feel free to change up your blues (notice we went turquoise in the tank top and used a darker blue shade here). Or maybe add in some fuchsia or violet for an even bolder rainbow effect. Remember, there's no wrong way to tie dye!

Align the tree cutout with the fold of the hoodie and trace on the shirt with a washable marker. Tulip Tie-Dye Christmas Tree Hoodie Tightly pleat the hoodie along the marker line, aligning the fabric so that the marker line appears straight across the pleats as you work. Tulip Tie-Dye Christmas Tree Hoodie Wrap rubber bands around the shirt to secure, starting the first one at the marker line, then another about an inch after, and a third an inch or two after the second. Re-soak in water to completely dampen hoodie and wring out. (Hoodie MUST be completely damp before microwaving to avoid possibly scorching the fabric.) Tulip Tie-Dye Christmas Tree Hoodie Place your hoodie on a wire rack if you have one, then mix your green and fuchsia dyes according to instructions. (Note: you can also order a red 1-color kit if you want to keep your color scheme super traditional.) Make Your Own Festive Christmas Tee

Make Your Own Festive Christmas Tee

Get in the holiday spirit with a funny tee that's festive too! Quote art tees are a great way to show your personality (and sense of humor), and are so easy to make with Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Color. This Resting Grinch Face shirt is perfect to wear for just about any holiday activity - because who doesn't love anything Grinch related?! All you need is a pattern, some freezer paper and ColorShot to get creative with this project. What you need: - Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Color (desired colors) - Freezer paper - Printed quote art pattern - Craft knife - Iron - Pen or pencil - Painter's tape - Protective plastic First make sure your shirt has been washed and dried (without fabric softener). Iron it smooth and choose your ColorShot color palette. Print word pattern in desired font. Trace onto freezer paper (non-wax side) and cut out with a craft knife. Place a piece of freezer paper inside of shirt (wax side up) and iron over the shirt to create a temporary hold and to prevent any color from soaking through to the back side of shirt. Place pattern wax side down on shirt and iron in place. Cover exposed areas of shirt with protective plastic. Tape pieces of freezer paper over areas of pattern that will be different colors than the first color you are spraying. Spray first color of ColorShot over exposed areas of pattern. Spray several light coats instead of one heavy coat. When you are happy with the coverage, let dry, then cover these sections with freezer paper to protect from overspray. Repeat covering and spray process for each color. Once your entire design is complete, remove the plastic and freezer paper and let your shirt dry completely. Now you're ready to rock around the Christmas tree in a super festive tee!
