BEYOU TIE-DYE KIT ( General Instructions )

BEYOU TIE-DYE KIT ( General Instructions )

Read through all directions before beginning. Supplies Natural fiber fabric (light color) – silk, wool, rayon, cotton Plastic trash bags to cover work surface Plastic bag or plastic wrap Step 1 – Set Up Work Surface Protect work surface with plastic trash bags. Cover with a layer of paper towels. Step 2 – Prewash Fabric Prewash fabric to remove sizing. Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheet. Choose desired technique. If using dry technique, dry fabric in dryer. If using wet technique, use directly from washer. Step 3 – Prepare Fabric If using a flat method of dyeing, place plastic wrap or trash bag between layers of fabric to keep dye from seeping through to other side. Step 4 – Mix Dye Wearing protective gloves, add water to dye bottle and fill to the neck. Replace cap tightly. Shake until dye is dissolved. Use full-strength for intense colors. For a lighter shade of color, add more water using extra bottle if needed. Apply dye within 24 hours after mixing. Note: Dye left unapplied after 24 hours will begin to lose concentration and will result in noticeably weaker color intensity. Do not add water to dye until you are prepared to apply it. Step 5 – Dye Fabric Apply dye on fabric, checking to make sure dye has penetrated into folds. Do not over-saturate fabric. If dye is applied too close together, the colors may become muddy. Step 6 – Wrap, Let Set, Rinse Cover dyed fabric with plastic wrap to keep damp. Let set 6–8 hours or longer for most intense colors. Rinse until water is clear. Cut rubber bands if used. Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for fabric and a small amount of laundry soap. Wash and dry separately for the first few times. Hints Always wear gloves when working with dyes Do not allow dyed fabric to rest wet on other items Make sure excess dye dust is removed from work area Create new colors by blending dyes

Holiday Decoration Idea: Tie-Dye Tree Skirt Tassels

Holiday Decoration Idea: Tie-Dye Tree Skirt Tassels

Published Date: November 13, 2024 We think one of the most enjoyable parts of decorating for Christmas is all of the options! From traditional to glam to natural to kitschy, the possibilities are seriously endless. We love this holiday decoration idea from Mikyla Creates – a tie-dye tasseled tree skirt – because of course we love anything tie dye, any time of year! Check out this easy tutorial for how to make your own tie-dye tasseled Christmas tree skirt and get inspired to add some extra color to your holiday décor this year! Supplies needed Tulip One-Step Tie Dye – desired kit or colors - White or cream-colored tree skirt - Cotton yarn in the same color as tree skirt - Spatula to help make your tassels - Scissors - Spray bottle - Disposable plastic surface cover - Paper towels - Embroidery needle/thread Instructions Tassel supplies For this holiday decoration idea, you only need a few supplies for such a fun, colorful result! First, you’ll start by making your tassels. (They’re super easy to DIY!) Wrap yarn around spatula Use an item like a spatula (or even a piece of cardboard) to wrap your yarn around. You’ll want an item that’s about the same width as the length you’d like your tassels to be. Wrap the yarn around your item as many times as you’d like for the thickness of your tassels. Mikyla wrapped hers around a spatula 50 times. Cut yarn off spatula Cut the looped yarn off of the spatula, cutting only on one end (not both). Create hanger strand for tassels Cut a strand of yarn the length that you want your tassel hanger to be. Lay your cut group of strands vertically on your work surface, then place the extra strand you just cut for the hanger across the group of yarn, laying it horizontally and at the halfway point. Fold the group of yarn strands in half over the top of the single hanger strand. Tie string around top to create tassel Cut another strand of yarn and tie it around your group of strands just below the top to form your tassel. Repeat this process to create as many tassels as you’ll need to fit around your tree skirt. Cut bottom of tassel for an even edge Trim the bottom of the tassel so you have a clean, even edge. Cover work surface and mix dyes Now it’s time to get your tassels ready for tie dye! Cover your work surface with a plastic table cover and mix your dyes according to instructions. Mist tassels with water Add some water to a spray bottle and mist the tassels to dampen them. Squeeze dyes onto tassels Squeeze dyes onto the bottom halves of the tassels so they look dip dyed. You can do all one color or as many as you like! Once you’ve dyed your tassels, you can use paper towels to help dab away some of the moisture, then let them dry completely so the dye can set. Sew and tie tassels to tree skirt You’re almost finished with this fun holiday decoration idea! Once your tassels are completely dry, spread them evenly around the tree skirt to get an idea for placement. Thread the hanger strand of the tassel through an embroidery needle, then simply make one loop through the edge of the tree skirt and tie a knot to secure the tassel in place. Repeat with all tassels to attach to the skirt. Tie-Dye Tasseled Tree Skirt Place your tree skirt around your tree and enjoy your colorful tie-dye creation! It’s one fun way to make your Christmas extra merry & bright this year. What holiday decoration ideas are you making this year with Tulip Color Products? Make Your Own Tie-Dye Family Stockings

Make Your Own Tie-Dye Family Stockings

Published Date: November 12, 2024 Want Santa to fill your family stockings with lots of good stuff this year? Up your chances with custom tie-dye stockings that’ll catch his eye once he comes down the chimney! Mikyla Creates will show you how to use Tulip Fabric Dyes to make ombre-dyed family stockings with pretty pompoms to go with them. Get inspired to get colorfully creative with your holiday décor this year! Supplies needed - Tulip Fabric Dyes (Hot Water Dyes) – Bright Pink, Gray, Sunshine – or desired colors - White cotton chunky knit stockings - Yarn in desired colors for pompoms - Pompom makers in various sizes - Large bowl for mixing dye - Salt/measuring spoons - Mixing spoon - Scissors - Disposable plastic table cover Instructions Make sure stockings are 100% cotton For best results when dyeing your family stockings, make sure the stockings are made from 100% cotton or another natural-fiber fabric. Mix Fabric Dyes according to instructions Cover your work surface with a protective plastic table cover, then mix your Fabric Dyes (hot water dyes) in a large bowl according to the package instructions. Create custom colors by mixing and testing dyes Mikyla created her own custom peach-pink color by mixing and testing Bright Pink, Gray and Sunshine dyes. To do this, mix in a little bit of each dye powder at a time and test with a paper towel until you get the shade you want. You can also try mixing other colors, or using the shade that comes in your dye packet. Get creative with your family stockings and have fun! Dye the stockings To dye your family stockings, first dampen each stocking and wring out the excess water. You can either dip the stockings directly into the bowl of dye and let them soak in the dye for a bit, or you can spoon the dyes onto the stockings if you want more control over the dye placement. The damper the stocking, the more the dye will permeate and travel through the fabric fibers. For an ombre effect when spooning the dye, add more dye on the bottoms of the stockings and less as you work your way towards the tops. Pompom making supplies Cover the stockings with plastic to keep damp while the dye sets, then follow instructions for laundering and drying. While the dye is processing, you can make colorful pompoms to go with your family stockings! Mikyla used pompom makers of various sizes for hers. Wrap yarn around each side of pompom maker To make the pompoms, wrap yarn around each side of the pompom maker, as many times as you’d like. The more times you wrap the yarn, the fluffier the pompom will be! Cut yarn around perimeter Once each side is full, snap the pompom maker closed and cut the yarn around the perimeter of the device, making sure to cut all strands. Tie a string around pompom Tie a long string around the perimeter of the pompom maker, then remove the device and tighten the string as much as you can, then knot it to hold in place. Leave the long strands of string so you can use them to tie the pompoms to the stocking. Trim pompoms to even out Trim around the pompom to make sure the strings are even on all sides (leaving your long hanger strands). Continue this process to make pompoms of different colors and sizes for all of your family stockings. Attach pompoms to stockings Attach the pompoms to the stockings in clusters and trim excess string. Tie-Dye Family Stockings Once the pompoms are attached, it’s time to hang your tie-dye family stockings. Santa won’t be able to resist stuffing these stockings with lots of goodies! This guide, inspired by Oh Yay Studio, demonstrates how to transform an aged band tee into a dazzling, colorful piece using the Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit. Ideal for anyone looking to add a personalized touch to their wardrobe, follow these steps to upgrade your beloved shirts. What You Need: Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit An old white or light-colored band tee Plastic covering for your work surface Wire rack (optional) Step 1 Prepare shirt and mix dyes First, give the shirt a thorough wash and dry (if opting for a dry dyeing method). Then, select a palette that resonates with your style, and mix your tie-dye solutions as per the kit's instructions. Step 2 Fold and securing the shirt Decide on a folding technique for your project. Then, seal the shirt in a plastic bag or cover it to let the dye set. This process can take between 6 to 8 hours, or leave it overnight for deeper color saturation. Step 4 Reveal! After the dye has set, remove the rubber bands and wash the shirt as per the kit's laundering instructions. Your revitalized band tee is now ready to make its debut! Tulip Valentine Tie-Dye Quote Art Tee

Valentine Reverse Tie-Dye Quote Art Tee

Whether you're celebrating Valentine's Day with your significant other, your gal pals, or the most fantastic person you know - YOU - this custom Valentine's Day Quote Art T-shirt is the perfect tee to wear when Cupid gets out his bow and arrow. (Whether you decide to run towards his arrow or away from it is entirely up to you. We're not judging.) Make it clear who your true love is (can we say tacos, tacos and MORE TACOS?!) with the cool effects of the Tulip® Reverse Tie-Dye Kit and clever quote art made easy with Tulip® Fabric Paint Markers. Get the tutorial from Pretty Life Girls and get ready to get your grub on in style this Valentine's Day. What you need: - Tulip Reverse Tie-Dye Kit - Tuip 1-Color Fuchsia Dye Kit - Tulip Fabric Paint Markers - Black cotton T-shirt - Bucket or sink - Letter stencils - Iron - Thin cloth - T-shirt form/cardboard To prep your shirt for adding Color Changer from the Reverse Tie-Dye Kit, first twist or fold it according to your favorite tie-dye technique. For this shirt, Pretty Life Girls used the spiral tie-dye pattern, pinching the shirt fabric in the center and twisting the entire shirt into a spiral. Bind the shirt with rubber bands (using at least three to hold in place for the spiral technique). Place the bound shirt into a bucket or sink, then prepare and apply the Color Changer to your shirt according to the kit instructions. Let the Color Changer process on the shirt until your desired look has been achieved, then cut off the rubber bands and immediately rinse/launder according to instructions. If you want to add a pop of color to your shirt, now's the time! Leave your shirt damp after rinsing/washing, then mix your fuchsia (or desired) Tulip tie-dye according to instructions. You can place your shirt crumpled up in the bucket or laying flat on a covered work surface before applying dye; there's no wrong way to tie dye! Add your dye to your liking over the shirt, then let it process for the time recommended in the instructions. After the dye has set, wash and dry your shirt and you're ready for your quote art! And maybe a snack. (Mmmmm ... tacos ....) Tulip Fabric Paint Markers work on dark fabrics too, so get out your stencils and your Paint Markers and get ready to add some quote art! (We recommend placing a shirt form or piece of cardboard in between the layers of your shirt to prevent any paint from accidentally soaking through to the back of the shirt). Place your letter stencil on your shirt and use the white Paint Marker to color in the lettering. Remove the stencil and let the paint dry. Heat your iron to the hottest setting (no steam) and place a thin cloth over the top of the lettering. Iron for 60 seconds to heat set the ink. Look who's ready for Valentine's Day! But more importantly, who's ready for tacos???

DIY Tie Dye Matching Family Pajamas

DIY Tie Dye Matching Family Pajamas

Published Date: November 09, 2022 Stay colorfully cozy this Christmas in matching PJs for the whole family! Christmas morning will be extra merry & bright with tie-dye PJs you’ll end up wanting to wear all day. (No shame in that game.) Craft Box Girls put together this tutorial to get you inspired so you don’t have to wait for Santa to leave them under your tree … you can do it yourself with Tulip One-Step Tie Dye. So round up your crew and get everyone involved in a creative activity that just might become a new holiday family tradition! Supplies needed Tulip One-Step Tie Dye (any kit with red and green) - White 100% cotton pajamas - Disposable plastic surface cover - Sealable plastic bags Instructions Wash pajamas before starting Before starting on your tie-dye pajamas, make sure to wash them (without fabric softener). You can get straight to tie dyeing after they’re done washing, or if you’ll be tie dyeing at a later time, make sure to thoroughly dampen the pajamas under the faucet or in a bowl of water. Wring out excess water. Lay damp PJs on work surface Lay out your damp pajamas on a covered work surface, then choose your favorite tie-dye technique. There are so many good ones! If you’re making matching family pajamas like Craft Box Girls, choose which tie-dye patterns you all like best (you can mix & match different patterns for the legs and tops), or everyone can do their own thing! Pleat and bind project Fold, pleat or bind your project using the rubber bands included in your kit. For the pajama pants, Craft Box Girls opted for a stripes tie-dye pattern. You can do the same or choose something different! Add dyes to project Mix up your dyes with water according to instructions, then apply in between the rubber bands on your project. Tip: leave a little bit of white space on each side of each rubber band. This will help create more defined patterns and also prevent the dye colors from blending too much and looking “muddy.” (Since red and green can look brown when mixed.) Bind top for bullseye pattern For the pajama tops, Craft Box Girls chose the bullseye tie-dye pattern. It’s so easy and looks so cool! Simply decide where you want the bullseye center to be, then pinch the fabric at this point and pull upward into a tube shape. Wrap rubber bands around the fabric every few inches to your liking. Alternate dyes between rubber bands Alternate red and green dye colors between each banded section as done with the pants. (Or experiment with other color patterns!) Let set, then cut off rubber bands When everyone is done with their tie dye, place each project in a sealable plastic bag to keep damp, then let the dye set for 6 to 8 hours or longer. After the dye has set, remove the projects from the bags and cut off the rubber bands. Rinse and wash pajamas Thoroughly rinse each pajama set under running water, then wash and dry according to instructions. If your pajamas are all the same colors, you can wash them together, otherwise, wash separately to prevent the colors from muddying in the washer. Tie-Dye Christmas Pajamas Now you’re ready to wake up on Christmas morning in vibrant tie-dye style! It’s such a fun way to add an extra festive feel to your holiday. Use iron-on vinyl or paint to write the color names on each swatch. Allow paint to dry flat for at least 4 hours. To create the paint palette, trace the palette template and trace onto felt with a pencil and cut it out. Glue the felt paint splotches onto the palette with Aleene’s Ultimate Glue. Reverse Tie Dye Sweatshirt

DIY Colorful Reverse Tie Dye Sweatshirt

Tie dye isn’t just for fashionable summer fun; we’re all about it for fall too! Mikyla Creates will inspire you to combine Tulip Reverse Tie Dye with your favorite One-Step Tie-Dye Kit so you’re ready to cozy up in color when cooler weather arrives. What you need: - Tulip Reverse Tie-Dye Kit - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Sweatshirt - Plastic table cover - Sealable plastic bag Before getting started on your reverse tie dye, prewash and dry your sweatshirt without fabric softener. You’ll want to do this especially if the sweatshirt is new, so the chemical called “sizing” washes away. (It can prevent the Color Changer from absorbing into the fabric.) Lay out your dry sweatshirt on a covered work surface and start scrunching the fabric together. Use rubber bands to help tightly crumple the fabric and hold it in place. Flip the sweatshirt over and repeat on the back side with additional rubber bands. This will give you lots of cool crumple patterns in the fabric. Follow instructions for activating the Color Changer with water. Apply Color Changer onto the scrunched sweatshirt, working the tip of the bottle into the folds. Repeat on the backside. Note: If you’re going to be touching the fabric as you work with the Color Changer, make sure to wear the protective gloves that come in your kit. Allow the Color Changer to process on your project until the desired amount of color is removed. Check it regularly as the Color Changer processes. Then, wearing gloves, remove the rubber bands and thoroughly rinse your sweatshirt. Optional: Lay the damp sweatshirt out flat on your work surface and apply additional Color Changer for added reverse tie-dye effects! If you want to skip this step, wash your sweatshirt according to instructions after removing the rubber bands and rinsing. Rinse and wash the sweatshirt after your desired amount of color removal, then lay the damp sweatshirt out on your covered work surface for adding tie dye. For added crumple effects, scrunch the sweatshirt again, then mix and apply your favorite dye colors! Place in a sealable plastic bag and allow the dye to process for the time recommended in your kit. After the dye processes, rinse, wash and dry according to instructions. And now you’re ready to cozy up in colorful reverse tie dye when cooler weather hits! How will you be using Tulip Reverse Tie Dye this fall and winter?
