Supplies needed - Tulip Tie-Dye Kit (desired kit/color scheme) - Jeans/jean shorts/jean jacket - 100% cotton Instructions Rainbow Tie-Dye Jean Shorts Bold, colorful and flat-out FUN, turn a pair of cutoff jean shorts into something a unicorn would wear with the Super Big Tie-Dye Kit. Create a rainbow tie-dye pattern by applying dyes vertically on a white pair of jean shorts, blending the dye colors into one another for ombre tie-dye effects. Feeling extra creative? Try embellishing your shorts with studs for added personalization. Pastel Tie-Dye Jean Jacket Taylor Swift has been generating a ton of buzz around her new album "Lover" dropping in August, and we've been swooning over her fun pastel fashion since she stepped on the scene with her new look. One outfit in partciular that we can't get enough of is her pastel tie-dye jean jacket - shocking, right?! We loved it so much we made our own (for a fraction of the cost since we aren't earning a celebrity salary at the moment), and you can get the tutorial here. You're welcome. Crumple Tie-Dye Jeans If you're like us, you probably wear jeans year round, no matter what the weather is like. They're always in style! Create a pair that no one else is sporting with tie dye. For this pair we used the Moody Blues Tie-Dye Kit for cool summer vibes, but feel free to get creative with your color palette! Crumple Tie-Dye Jean Shorts Stand out this summer with a pair of jean shorts that are cool on a cosmic level. These galaxy-inspired tie-dye cutoffs are soooo easy to make using the crumple tie-dye technique and the Carousel Tie-Dye Kit. Priority list this summer: first tie dye, then take over the world. Indigo Tie-Dye Jean Shorts Indigo is trending big time in tie dye right now, and we can see why. It's a classic shade that adds a touch of sophistication while remaining down to earth and always beautiful. Try dip-dyeing a pair of jean shorts in indigo dye for more freeform effects, or try a cool pattern like the string bullseye technique for a pair of shorts that hits a hot fashion bullseye. Explore indigo and other shades of blue in our Shibori Tie-Dye Kit. Tie-Dye Denim Vest Jean jackets are such a versatile wardrobe staple, and so are their vest counterparts! A denim vest goes with just about any outfit; up its cool factor with tie dye in one color like black (or as many colors as you like) and an easy pattern that can look totally edgy like the crumple tie-dye technique. 10 More Patriotic Tie Dye Ideas

10 More Patriotic Tie Dye Ideas

Published Date: June 05, 2019 Americana is a trend that never goes away, and Americana tie dye is no exception. Red, white and blue is always in style, especially for Fourth of July! No matter how you're celebrating this summer, you can rock a patriotic tie-dye look in a few easy steps with Tulip Tie Dye. If you missed our first patriotic tie-dye fashion post, peep it out here, then read on for 10 more tie-dye ideas to get you in the star-spangled spirit. Supplies needed - Tulip Tie-Dye Kit - White 100% cotton T-shirt or tank top - White denim shorts - Straw hat - White 100% cotton or rayon skirt - Plastic disposable tablecloth - Paper towels Instructions In most parts of the country, especially at Tulip headquarters, the month of July is HOT, so a pair of denim cutoff shorts is a summer staple. Give a white pair of denim shorts a patriotic makeover with Tulip Tie Dye in red and blue. This tie-dye technique couldn't be easier - simply lay out your damp shorts on a covered work surface and squeeze the dyes directly from the bottle onto the shorts - blue on one side and red on the other. Let set according to instructions and you have yourself a pair of shorts that are perfect for 4th of July BBQs, lake adventures and more. If you're going to be spending time outdoors in the sun, a hat is never a bad idea! A cute straw hat that's red hot is even better! Since straw is a natural fiber, you can totally dye it. Mix up bottles of red and violet dye from the Rainbow Tie-Dye Kit, pour into plastic ups and use a paintbrush to brush the dyes around the brim of your hat and anywhere else. Give your hat a fun facelift that adds some extra flair to your 4th of July fashion! Stay cool in the summertime with a tie-dye tank top! Get this red, white & blue striped effect with the Stripes Tie-Dye Technique and red and blue dye randomly in between your rubber-banded sections. Chill out in the heat with cool shades of blue. Still perfectly patriotic without red added, this ombre tie-dye T-shirt can be made using either the Dip Dye Tie-Dye Technique or by simply squeezing the dye straight from the blue dye bottle onto the top half of your T-shirt. Kimonos are such a versatile wardrobe staple; they look super fab paired with just about any outfit AND they even make cute swimsuit covers for all of the water babies out there spending tons of time by the pool this summer. Give a white cotton kimono some patriotic flavor with red tie dye and either the shibori tie-dye technique or the stripes technique, pleating your fabric and adding dye just down the center (as shown). Maxi skirts are sooooooo comfortable and can be worn just about anywhere for any occasion! Pair a red, white and blue tie-dye maxi skirt with a simple tank top for the perfect comfortable patriotic look whether you're hanging out at a backyard BBQ or heading to the lake with friends. Re-create this tie-dye maxi skirt with the String Tie-Dye Technique. Grab your crew and make your big 4th of July celebration sizzle hotter than the BBQ with bright patriotic tie-dye T-shirts! Make 'em to wear for the party or make 'em during the party as a fun activity with the Tulip Tie-Dye Party Kit. Create the looks in this photo with the Firecracker Tie-Dye Technique, the Spiral Tie-Dye Technique and the Bullseye Tie-Dye Technique. And last but definitely not least, this side bullseye tie-dye T-shirt made with the Tulip Rainbow Tie-Dye Kit mixes in a touch of violet for a fun spin on traditional Americana colors. Make it using the Bullseye Tie-Dye Technique and starting your binding process at the bottom corner of the shirt instead of the center.

DIY Tie Dye Maxi Dress

Published Date: May 29, 2019 Is there anyone who doesn't love tie-dye maxi dresses? Long, billowy and oh so flattering, maxi dresses can play the perfect part for any occasion, whether you're attending a wedding or sipping a fresh bevvy at the beach with friends. And with tie dye being such a hot fashion trend again this year, it's no wonder we've been seeing tie-dye maxi dresses float down the runways in a stunning array of color combos that'll make anyone want to bust out their credit card and pay top dollar for these drool-worthy dresses. BUT, before you spend a car payment or month's worth of rent on a designer tie-dye maxi dress, finish reading this post so you can see how easy it is to tie dye your own sartorial work of art for a fraction of the cost with Tulip Tie Dye and ... wait for it ... a paintbrush! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie Dye Party Kit - White 100% natural fiber maxi dress (cotton, rayon or silk) - Large paintbrush (ex. 3-inch wide bristle section) - Disposable plastic cups - Extra dye bottles (for mixing dyes - or you can use plastic cups) - Scrap white fabrics for testing dye colors Instructions 1. First choose your dye colors. Colors shown here are violet, teal, blue and red & black mixed to make burgundy. (Tulip dyes are totally mixable so you can create your own custom shades if you want.) Add water to the dye bottles and shake to mix. 2. If you have extra dye bottles, pour some of the violet into an extra bottle and refill with water. Shake to mix up a pastel violet shade. If you are using plastic cups, pour out at least half of the violet dye into a plastic cup and refill the dye bottle with water to create your pastel violet shade. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to make sure you like the color. Add more water or dye to lighten or darken if needed. 3. To create burgundy, pour out some of the red dye and add some black dye to the red dye bottle. Shake to mix and test, then add more black dye as needed until you are happy with the color. 4. Pour all of your dyes into individual clean plastic cups. 5. Cover your work surface with the plastic table cover from your kit. Wash your dress (without fabric softener) and leave it damp. Lay it out flat on your covered work surface. 6. Dip your paintbrush into the pastel violet dye (or whatever dye color you choose to work with) and brush the dye onto the top section of dress, brushing downward towards waist. Reload brush with dye as needed as you brush onto dress. 7. Clean brush and load with next dye color. Brush underneath first color, brushing downward towards bottom section of dress as well as blending upward into first dye color. 8. Repeat process with each dye color, working your way to the bottom of the dress and blending dye colors into one another for a true ombre tie-dye look. 9. Cover dress with plastic and let set 8 hours or overnight. Launder according to instructions. Now you're ready to rock a colorful new summer look that'll turn heads everywhere you go! It's up to you whether you want to keep everyone guessing which designer you're sporting or let them in on your little DIY tie-dye fashion secret.

10 Ways to Wear Pastel Tie Dye

10 Ways to Wear Pastel Tie Dye

Published Date: April 24, 2019 We don't know about you, but we're super into pastel tie dye right now. Of course tie dye is usually known for being super psychedelic, ultra bright and always crazy fun, but sometimes a more muted look is just what we're in the mood for. Pastel tie dye gives a high-fashion vibe whether you're rocking traditional tie-dye patterns or more avant-garde looks. Plus it's super easy to do yourself, so no need to rush out and spend a small fortune on something bought from a store! Here's a roundup of 10 pastel tie-dye ideas, all made with tie-dye techniques you can find right here on tiedyeyoursummer.com. How to make your own pastel tie-dye colors: mix up your Tulip Tie Dyes according to the instructions in your kit. Once mixed, carefully open the bottles and pour some of each dye into a plastic cup (1 per color in case you want to save the dye). Refill the tie-dye bottles with water and replace caps, then shake to mix and dilute colors. Repeat until your desired shades are achieved. Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Plastic cups for diluting tie dye - Disposable plastic surface cover - 100% cotton white fabric item to tie dye Instructions Dip Dye Pastel Tie Dye Shorts Dip dye is one of the easiest tie-dye techniques out there - no folding or binding required - and it looks so chic! These shorts feature a pastel green more diluted on top and more concentrated on the lower half for a fab ombre effect. You can use the Moody Blues Tie-Dye Kit for this look, or try the 1-Color Kit in Teal (or whatever color you like)! Ice Dye Pastel Tie Dye Shorts Another technique that works great for achieving a pastel tie-dye look is the Ice Dye Technique. We crumpled up a pair of white denim jean shorts (make sure they are cotton) and added a variety of One-Step Dye colors in the process. Tip: using less dye powder over the ice will give you a lighter pastel look in the end. Try the Luau Kit or Bright Kit for this look. Shibori Pastel Tie Dye Top We love the Shibori Tie-Dye Technique because it's super high fashion and always produces the most interesting effects, whether you are tie dyeing a T-shirt, blouse, jeans or shorts. Create a similar pastel tie-dye look using the Shibori technique and diluting dye colors from the Mermaid Tie-Dye Kit or Carousel Tie Dye Kit. Shibori Pastel Tie Dye Dress If you're vibing on the Shibori Tie-Dye Technique like we are, why not try a dress? The great thing about a tie-dye dress is that it can be dressed up or down and worn for almost any occasion! Create your own pastel shibori tie-dye dress using the the Moody Blues Tie-Dye Kit or any of your favorite 1-Color Kits. Bullseye Pastel Tie Dye Dress Speaking of dresses, how fun is this pastel blue bullseye dress?! It kind of looks like a beautiul explosion of color! Grab a white cotton maxi dress, check out the Bullseye Tie Dye Technique (which is soooo easy) and make your own for a summer soiree or just because! Get this look with the Turquoise 1-Color Tie-Dye Kit. Crumple Pastel Tie Dye Jeans Jeans are a wardobe staple - we all wear them! Change up traditional tie dye with a pair of tie-dye jeans in pretty pastel hues. This look is so easy to recreate using the Crumple Tie Dye Technique and the Moody Blues Tie Dye Kit on a white pair of cotton jeans. Dip Dye Pastel Tie Dye Top This version of the Dip Dye Technique uses two coordinating dye colors. It's totally fine to add one dye color over another, you'll just want to make sure to dip your article of clothing in the lighter dye color first, then the darker color above or below it. Keep basic color theory in mind when mixing colors - choose shades that blend nicely together instead of turning muddy brown (unless brown is what you are going for)! You can create this look using the Moody Blues Tie Dye Kit. (We know we keep mentioning this kit, but it's just so awesome, especially for pastel tie dye!) Ice Dye Pastel Tie Dye Tank Top Summertime calls for staying cool in tie-dye looks like this tank top created with the Ice Dye Technique. You can keep on using the Moody Blues Kit, or you can try other summery options like Paradise Punch. Ice Dye Pastel Tie Dye Tank Top You can also tote your stuff around in style with a pastel tie-dye tote! Perfect for a day at the beach, brunch with friends or hitting the farmer's market for some fresh eats, this tie-dye tote bag will have everyone talking. The Stripes Tie Dye Technique is a great pattern for tote bags ... brighten things up by creating pastel shades using the Ultimate Kit. Ice Dye Pastel Tie Dye Tapestry And finally, whether making your own tie dye sarong, tie dye swimsuit coverup or a cool tapestry for your wall, we're big fans of using lots of color! Since there was a lot of fabric to work with, we chose to mix things up with a freeform combination of Bullseye String Patterns with some winding pleats in between. Once you bind your fabric, add lots of color from your favorite Party Kit using the Ice Dye Technique for pastel effects.

Rainbow-Drip Tie-Dye T-shirt

Rainbow-Drip Tie-Dye T-shirt

Published Date: June 26, 2018 Tie dye season is upon us and here at Tie Dye Your Summer we are bursting at the seams with tie dye ideas using our Tulip One-Step Tie-Dyes! We just love the look of dripped dye and wanted to combine it with the love of all things RAINBOW! This tee is especially perfect if you have leftover dyes from previous tie-dye projects that you want to use up. It's so the perfect stash buster project to use up all that dye! Let us show you just how easy it is! What you need: – Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye kit - Super Big (this kit contained the rainbow of colors I was going for) – Water pitcher – 100% cotton shirt – Plastic surface cover or tablecloth or just tie dyed on the grass, cause there's really no harm in it and it's pretty much mess free! – Optional: Plastic bag or freezer paper to put inside shirt so it won't bleed to the back side NOTE: One of the important aspects of this process is that you DON'T wet your shirt before you begin. Most tie dye projects work best if you wet the shirt and can absorb the dye, but not this one. 1) The easiest first step in all of crafting history...lay the dry shirt flat on the ground. 2) Next, fill up your bottles of dye or use your leftovers (day-old dye works great for this). Now start slowly dripping your color from the bottom in small and medium drops. You'll get a hand for it as you go. 3) Do the next color in color order. In this example, we went in the following order up the shirt: Yellow, Orange, Fuchsia, Purple, Violet, Blue, Turquoise, Green, and Lime. You can use any color combo you want and in your own order. 4) Cover in plastic, let it set for 6-8 hours, then rinse it out until the water runs clear. Put it in the washer on a light load with a small amount of soap and dry! The final result is so cool!!! Now, the dye might drip to the back and that's okay...it's tie dye after all. OK, technically, it's not "tie" dye, but tie dye sounds so much more cooler than just dye.

Galaxy Reverse Dye T-shirt

Galaxy Reverse Dye T-shirt

Published Date: June 14, 2018 Here's a real twist on tie-dyeing...the reverse method! All you need to reverse tie-dye is water and liquid bleach. Instead of applying dyes to a plain white fabric, you start with a solid color and alter the existing color. You take away the manufacturers' color and then add your own for a look that's out of this world! Wash and dry black T-shirt. Tie shirt in desired tie technique. Mix bleach solution- 1 part bleach to 3 parts water and pour into squeeze bottle. Apply bleach solution to your shirt as you would dye. Keep an eye on your shirt and when it reaches desired lightness, remove bands and rinse under running water. Shirt may still be slightly brown in bleached areas. Should only take 30- 40 mins, maybe less. Don’t leave bleach on too long or it will burn holes in your garment. Wash shirt and leave damp. Lay out flat on covered work surface. Mix desired dye colors and apply to bleached areas of shirt, making sure dye saturates to back of shirt. Allow to set 6-8 hours overnight then wash and dry shirt as fabric requires. What You Need: Tulip® One-Step Tie-Dye Kit Super Big Black cotton T-shirt Bleach Plastic squeeze bottle Disposable plastic table cover

DIY Grad Caps with Tulip

Graduation season is right around the corner and right now is the time to start thinking about how you will stand out in a sea of graduates! Here's three fun ways to cap off senior year in style using Tulip dyes, paints, and crystals. Share the tie dye vibes with everyone on grad day with this spiral cap! Get started with a Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye kit, a 18x18 cotton piece of fabric, and Aleene's Tacky Spray. Bind, then dye your fabric square according to packaging instructions. Once you set the dye and wash the fabric, spray the Tacky Spray on the backside of the fabric and fold in place. To make it extra secure, you can glue in place with Aleene's Fabric Fusion Tape. We think you deserve a DYE-ploma for this look! Add a colorful ombré look to your cap using Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Color. This technique works great on white caps, but you can also spray a white cotton square like we did for the tie dye look above and cover a darker-colored cap. As you can see above, we used stickers to write out our phrase, then sprayed the Tulip ColorShot in an ombre pattern to get this cool, neon look. Remove the letters and you'll get some in-your-face personalization that people high up in the bleachers will even see. If you are all about the sparkle, we suggest picking up some Tulip Glam-it-Up Crystals and a Tulip Glam-it-Up heat tool to make this custom cap. For precise details print out and cut your name/phrase and outline with the chalk. Then outline the letters with the crystals and heat tool. Cover as much of your cap with the crystals as you want. We personally, are addicted to bling and practically covered our cap! Which one of these looks fits your grad style most? Feel free to share and pin these images to get all your friends inspired to DIY their own.

Make your own tie dye socks

Make your own tie dye socks

Published Date: March 15, 2014 I know it's still winter in a lot of places (sorry, East coast), but one sure way to hurry up spring and summer is to make yourself a pair of one-of-a-kind tie dye socks using Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye! If these socks don't SCREAM warmer weather, I don't know what does! Here's how you can create your own vibrant pair for every day of the week!!!! What you need: – Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit in Neon Colors (this kit also gives you 5 additional refills!!!) – White cotton socks – Tulip Surface Cover Inside the package, you will find rubber bands. Wrap your socks as desired with the rubber bands. As you can see, I didn't have much a rhyme or reason. In the words of Bobby Brown, "That's My Prerogative". Next I thoroughly wet my socks... ...then I wrung them out in the sink. Getting the socks wet helps the dye sink into the fibers!Mix up your dyes and shake them well to dissolve all the powders! I used color water to mix mine. Now the fun part!!! Dyeing!!! Lay out your surface cover to protect your work surface and go to town, saturating your socks well with the dye! I wanted a lot of vibrant colors colliding on my socks. I did opt for colors in color wheel order...from experience orange next to green dye produces brown. That was not a color combo I wanted on my socks! Here's the socks in all their glory! I just knew they were going to turn out fab! Picky crafter tip: If you are super concerned about your colors mixing, use a cooling rack! A cooling rack will keep the socks elevated, while the dye colors drip below. This way the dye colors won't roll around and accidentally seep onto your other socks. I'm not super picky, so I didn't mind if the colors bled off onto the other socks! Now fold over the surface cover and let your socks sit 6-8 hours or overnight. This way, you colors will stay ultra vibrant and strong! Remove the socks from the plastic wrap and rinse out the dye from each pair of socks. Keep rinsing the socks until the the water from the socks runs clear. Remove the rubber bands from the socks and wash the socks in the washing machine on cold. Add a little detergent to the cycle. Line dry the socks or put them in the dryer. You may want to wash your tie dye socks separately from your other clothes, just to be on the safe side. You wouldn't want there to still be a trace of dye that got off on your other clothes! And here's the finished result! I love how they turned out!!! So vibrant and fun. You may notice that there's some white areas on the socks. That is the elastic (plastic) that doesn't retail the dye! Even though this part did not dye, I still think they are really cool...I think it actually makes the socks more interesting! Which pair do you think looks the coolest??? Save Save
