Make a Popsicle Piñata for Your 4th of July Party

Make a Popsicle Piñata for Your 4th of July Party

One way to beat the heat this 4th of July is to have some cool party activities! Piñatas are fun for all ages and you can stuff them with candy and other themed items that everyone will love to crack open. Craft Box Girls will show you how to get into the spirit of Independence Day with a handmade popsicle piñata in red, white and blue. Grab your Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue and take a swing at this creative project! What you need: - Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue- Tissue paper – red, white, blue - Poster board (any color is fine) - Scissors- Clear packing tape- Pencil Step 1 You don’t need very many supplies to make a festive piñata for your 4th of July party! Make sure your cardboard piece is large enough to cut your popsicle shape from, in the desired size you want for your piñata. Step 2 Draw an upside-down U shape on the cardboard and cut it out. Create a smaller version of this for the Popsicle handle. Step 3 Cut strips of poster board about 4 wide and long enough to fit around the outer edge of your cardboard Popsicle shape. Cut small strips of poster board at least 2 long these will help connect your larger poster board strips to the cardboard so they act as a frame. Add dots of Quick Dry Tacky Glue every few inches along the larger strips. Step 4 Press the smaller strips into the dots of glue, then fold them upward as shown. Step 5 Add a dot of Quick Dry Tacky to the top of each connector strip. Step 6 Add glue along the outer edge of the cardboard piece. Step 7 Glue poster board around the entire perimeter of the cardboard, then cut a door on one side of the poster board, where you can insert candy after the piñata is done. Step 8 Wrap the piñata in two sheets of white tissue paper like a present, and glue in place to secure. Step 9 Cut a slit in the tissue paper at the bottom of the popsicle and insert and glue the popsicle stick piece. Step 10 Cut long strips of red, white and blue tissue paper that are about 2 inches wide. Step 11 Cut fringe along one side of each long strip of tissue paper. Step 12 Glue the red, white and blue tissue paper strips around the entire piñata, fringe side down. Layer them slightly over one another as you go, so there aren't any gaps. Don't forget to leave an opening for the door on the side! Step 13 Once everything has dried, its time to stuff the piñata and tape the door shut to secure. If you're going to be hanging your piñata, glue or staple a strand of string to the backside. And now your popsicle piñata is ready to be a total hit at your party! Crafting with Tacky Glue Vs Hot Glue

Crafting with Tacky Glue Vs Hot Glue

Not all glues are created equal. There are many variations within each category, and you need to make sure you choose the right glue for your craft tasks. But in your quest to choose the perfect glue for the job, it begs the question...Is one really better than the other? While hot glue definitely has its merits, we like to think that Tacky Glue reigns supreme because of its versatility. It's great for gluing paper to just about anything and is a crafter's go-to for small craft projects that don't entail heavy-duty materials like metal. Its "instant tack" thick formula (super grabbing power) is ideal for little, odd objects like shells, buttons, etc. so it grips and holds them in place without the risk of running while the project dries. Aleene's Tacky Glue is a PVA glue, which stands for polyvinyl acetate glue and refers to the type of resin used in the glue. PVA glue is commonly known as white glue or school glue. PVA glue remains flexible when dry and does not affect the PH balance of papers, photos and other items it's used on and it won't yellow! PVA glue has a thicker consistency than most craft glues, therefore it holds items in place better while the glue is drying. It comes in white or clear but both types dry clear and are nontoxic. Because of this thickness, it may take slightly longer to dry, however, don't despair, there's Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue if you're in a hurry! Hot glue with a glue gun application is great because it sets quickly and can hold a variety of materials together. It works for hard-to-glue items, yet it's not for delicate items or anything that cannot stand heat. And, speaking of heat, anyone who has used a hot glue gun has surely experience that unpleasant episode when the glue accidentally lands on your skin! (Ouch.) So it's important to remember that hot glue should generally be used by adults and older kids under adult supervision at all times. But Tacky Glue is nontoxic and safe to use for kids and crafters of all ages and skill levels. So why risk the chance of a burn when you get glue gun strength with Tacky Glue? Glue guns generally come in two basic sizes: standard or miniature. The mini uses much smaller glue sticks, therefore you run out of glue more quickly. Tacky Glue comes in a variety of sizes, perfectly suited to fill your crafting needs. (We recommend the largest one available as you'll probably use it so often.) If you've used a hot glue gun, you've most likely experienced "stringing" of the adhesive and the ugly glue "strings" that can get left behind on your project. And why does it string you may ask? Stringing occurs with hot melt adhesives when some of the glue material sticks to the applicator nozzle and then the glue is pulled down. But because Tacky Glue is applied at room temperature it allows for a smooth flow. As a matter of fact, Tacky Glue isn't limited to just one application either. The specialized tip can be cut for more or less glue flow depending on your needs. It can also be brushed on for a smooth, even application. Another challenge with hot glue is that it dries raised and hard and you see lines under fabric. Hot glue is not flexible and won't really soak into fabric. It will be thick and hard. But Tacky glue can be used on non-washable fabric projects for a fairly flexible, yet strong hold. Unlike hot glue, Tacky Glue isn't limited to just gluing "this to that." There's so much more you can do with it! Why not experiment with making some bread dough clay, faux stained glass, faux antiqued metal and, of course, the ever-popular making slime! In case you haven't heard, slime is kind of a THING...a BIG THING. Kids young and old alike are getting their hands onto bottles of glue to make their own sensory play fun. This DIY glitter slime recipe is made with Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue and glitter are you ready to get your slime on? Here's an easy tutorial for glitter slime. But you don't have to stop at glitter Check out our fun and easy slime recipes with Aleene's glue, how-to videos and slime tips. Our unicorn slime and mermaid glitter slime have magical sparkles, and our special glow-in-the-dark slime is totally nontoxic! Slime! And, speaking of kids' crafts, these fun Paper Picture Frames are the perfect afternoon craft for little hands. Using some cute pics, cupcake papers, straws and colorful papers, kiddos of all ages can make an entire blooming garden of friends. Paper Picture Frames And, even adults don't always enjoy working with hot glues. Sometimes when gluing delicate items like paper, it can be tricky and messy. This Paper Wreath is the perfect example of the ideal Tacky Glue project! If you have some old books lying around that you never plan on reading again, you can easily turn them into a decorative wreath! Or, if you love all your books, then just head to the thrift store and snag a few. Grab a bottle of Aleene's Original Tacky Glue and a foam wreath base (or make one out of cardboard) and you have yourself a rustic wreath that looks good year-round. Paper Wreath So, there you have it. Whatever your gluing needs, it's good to know there's always the right glue for the job.

DIY Book Page Pumpkin

DIY Book Page Pumpkin

It’s almost that time of year again! The cooler weather, changing colors, and pumpkin spice lattes. Oh fall how I love you so. There is no doubt pumpkins are a familiar sight this time of year and today I’m sharing how to bring some fall decor to your home with a few supplies a book and Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue. What you need: Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue Paperback book Craft knife Scissors Pencil Self-healing cutting mat Painter's sponge Craft Paint Twine Tree twigs or cinnamon sticks First thing you’ll have to do is to remove the front and back cover. Sketch out a pumpkin to fit the size of your book when folded this will be your cutting template. You can also just print out a pumpkin and modify the image to fit your book. Fold the pumpkin sketch in half; you’re only going to use one half of the template. Before cutting out the template, make sure the pumpkin half will actually fit within the book you plan to cut. Trim the template accordingly to get the perfect fit for the book. Slide the self-healing mat under 5-6 pages. Place the template on top of the pages trace with a pencil and carefully use the X-Acto knife to cut the pages along the line. Limit the number of pages you cut at one time to about 5-6. If you stack too many pages, the knife may not cut through them cleanly. After cutting the first set, slide the mat under the next stack of pages and repeat until you get to the end of the book. If you want to add some charm to your pumpkin, Fold the book and use a sponge brush to apply several coats of craft paint across the outside of the pages. Allow to dry. Use Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue to connect the two sides of the book together along the spine. You may also want to glue the two end pages together for a better hold. Save

Your pup will have it made in the shade in no time! To create this no-sew pet canopy, start by building the frame from wooden dowels. Cut the dowels to the measurements you need for the size of your pet canopy. Sand all edges and corners for a smooth surface, then use Wood Glue to glue the pieces together. Measure the outside of your frame to determine the length of fabric you need for your canopy. First measure the length of one of the rooftop angled pieces, then the length of one of the vertical pieces, and multiply by 2 (for both sides of the structure). Then add an additional 10 (5 for each side) for wrapping the fabric around the base and securing. For the width of the fabric, simply measure the depth of your frame, and add a few inches for creating hems. Iron your fabric and cut it to match the total of your measurements. Next, hem the fabric using Fabric Fusion Tape. Place your fabric wrong side up, and fold over each side along the length once, then again (about an inch) for clean edges. Unfold the sides once (so you still have a clean, folded outer edge) and run a line of Fabric Tape along the length and remove the top liner. Fold the edge of the fabric back over and press in place on top of the Fabric Tape to secure. Finally, fold the hem over the top of the frame base and press in place on the Fabric Tape to secure. Do this on both sides to finish your no-sew pet canopy! 8. No-Sew Halloween DIY: Raincloud & Rainbow Costume

No-Sew Halloween DIY: Raincloud & Rainbow Costume

Embrace the magic of the Halloween season with a whimsical costume! This no-sew Halloween DIY from Oh Yay Studio will show you how to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud— literally! Learn how to create a raincloud and rainbow costume with Aleene’s Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion and get ready for another creative Halloween. What you need: Aleene’s Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion 1 ½ - 3 yards of white fabric Fabric in rainbow colors Blue fabric Iron + ironing board 10” foam disc Headband Polyester fiberfill Ribbon Scissors Paper Pencil Step 1 Step 1 Cut out the clouds and straps To start this Halloween DIY, measure your body and cut out the clouds from fabric. Cut the width of your white fabric in half so that you have 2 long strips, then fold each piece in half width wise. You will use one long folded piece for the front and one for the back. Measure and cut the over-the-shoulder straps and some tie straps for the side of the body. For this kids’ costume, Oh Yay Studio cut 2 of the shoulder straps about 15” and 4 of the side straps about 8” long. Step 2 Step 2 Glue cloud together Glue your Halloween DIY costume together with Aleenes Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion! Begin by running a bead of glue along the outer edge of the cloud. To activate the adhesive, set your iron to high and iron the glued area in circular motions for 30 seconds. Be sure to keep a close eye on your project when ironing to prevent scorching. Flip and repeat on the backside. Pull on the fabric to test the bond and repeat ironing if necessary. Step 3 Step 3 Alternate gluing and stuffing Repeat ironing and gluing as you stuff the cloud with polyester fiberfill. Work from left to right and apply Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion in semi-circles across the fabric to give your Halloween DIY fluffy, cloud-like dimension. Be sure to add the ends of both of your straps along the top of the cloud and the 2 sides straps along the sides. Step 4 Step 4 Repeat and attach clouds Repeat steps 2 and 3 to glue and fill your second cloud. Attach the two clouds together through the top straps. Step 5 Step 5 Cut and prep raindrops Next, make some raindrops for your Halloween DIY costume. Cut varying lengths of ribbon, then cut twice as many raindrop shapes from blue fabric. Apply Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion and ribbon to one raindrop and place another raindrop on top. Iron to secure, then flip and repeat. Step 6 Step 6 Attach raindrops Use Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion to attach the raindrop strands to the inside of the rainclouds, ironing to secure into place. Attach the raindrops on both the front and back pieces to create a skirt of droplets for your Halloween DIY. This will give the illusion of raindrops falling from your cloud! Step 7 Step 7 Prepare the rainbow template This Halloween DIY wouldn't be complete without a rainbow costume headpiece! Prepare your rainbow by cutting a 10 foam circle in half. Create a template by tracing the half circle onto a piece of paper, then measure and draw 7 concentric arches onto the template. Step 8 Step 8 Cut rainbow colors from fabric Cut a strip of red fabric a 1/4 wider than the foam disc for your rainbow costume headpiece. Use your template to cut out the outer most half circle out of red fabric. Remember to cut two of every color one for the front and one for the back of the rainbow. Then cut off the first arch on the paper template and trace a slightly smaller arch onto the next color. Repeat this process with all the colors of your rainbow! Step 9 Step 9 Assemble the rainbow Once you've cut out all the colors, assemble your rainbow costume headpiece by gluing and ironing as you layer the colors together. Step 11 Step 11 Complete the rainbow This Halloween DIY is almost complete! Add the foam disc to your rainbow and secure into place with more glue and fabric. Glue and iron the rainbow onto your headband to complete the rainbow costume headpiece! Step 12 Step 12 Assemble the raincloud and rainbow costume The best part about this no-sew Halloween DIY is that you dont need to wait for the fabric glue to dry just slip the costume over your head and tie the sides together! Pair this rainbow costume with a cute umbrella and rain boots for a whimsical take on Halloween. This raincloud and rainbow costume is a breeze to make thanks to Aleenes Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion!
