Simple Ice Dye Project Your Kids Will Love

Simple Ice Dye Project Your Kids Will Love

Published Date: April 28, 2024 Looking for super cool summer fashion? Ice dye is the perfect thing to try! With the Tulip® Ice Dye One-Step Tie-Dye Kit, you’ll have the tie-dye tools you need to sit back, relax and let the ice do the work for you. LuluMake will show you how to use the accordion tie-dye technique with ice dye for the perfect way to beat the heat this summer. It’s a family friendly tie-dye activity too, so grab the kiddos and get them in on the fun! Instructions Fold damp T-shirt in half Before you begin, wash your T-shirt without fabric softener and leave it damp. To create the accordion tie-dye pattern, first fold your damp T-shirt in half vertically. Pleat your T-shirt accordion style Next accordion pleat from the base of the shirt all the way to the top like you would fold a paper fan. Make sure to pleat the sleeves as well! Tie rubber bands around the T-shirt Your pleated shirt should look like this. Then tightly wrap the rubber bands around the T-shirt every 1 to 1.5 inches to secure the pleats for the tie-dye process. Place ice dye grate in a tub and set bound shirt on grate Place the Ice-Dye Grate over a tub or container to collect dye and water runoff as the ice melts. Set the bound T-shirt on top of the Ice-Dye Grate. Sprinkle lighter-colored dye directly on t-shirt. Now it’s time to get busy with the ice dye part of the tie-dye process! Do not mix water into your One-Step Dye bottles; you’ll just need the powder for ice dye. For more color blending effects on your project, sprinkle lighter-colored dye powders directly on your T-shirt before adding the ice and darker colors. Cover T-shirt with ice and sprinkle dye powder on top Cover your T-shirt with ice and sprinkle the darker dye powders over the ice. (You can also skip the step above and add ice, then sprinkle all dye colors over it.) You can be creative with this part of the process; try varying the colors on each side of your shirt or even sprinkle some colors on top of others. Feel free to experiment, there’s no wrong way to ice dye! Let the ice melt Now just let the ice melt and the magic begin! As the ice melts, the colors will transfer onto your T-shirt. If you see unsaturated dye powder on your T-shirt after the ice starts melting, just add more ice and allow it to melt again. You can keep adding ice until you feel all of the ice has melted and the dye powder has been absorbed into the fabric. Accordion Ice Dye T-shirts Depending on the climate where you live, the ice may take hours to melt, or if it melts faster, you can always seal your project in a plastic bag and allow the dye to set for the full time recommended. Once your ice dye project is ready, remove the rubber bands and rinse and launder according to instructions. Ice Dye T-shirt Now that you know how easy it is to ice dye, you can experiment with all kinds of tie-dye techniques. We have a lot to try! How are you having fun with ice dye this summer? Tag us on social @tulipcolorcrafts and share your tie-dye creations with us!

Make Pressed Flower Bookmarks with Aleene's Craft Glaze

Make Pressed Flower Bookmarks with Aleene's Craft Glaze

What exactly is Aleene’s Craft Glaze? Is it a glue? Is it a sealer? Can it be used for embossing? What about jewelry making? Photos? The answer to all of these questions is: YES! Aleene’s Craft Glaze is an ultra-clear adhesive that can be used for creating clear or tinted dimensional designs, or to coat and seal projects with a hard, glass-like finish. Its versatility makes it a must-have for your stash of craft glues! Read on to see how to use Aleene’s Craft Glaze and get inspired to make your own pressed flower art with it. What you need: Aleene’s Craft Glaze - Cardstock bookmark or tag - Dried, pressed flowers - Tassels - Flat-bristled paintbrushStep 1 For this tutorial were using dried flowers and bookmarks/tags, but you can easily use these techniques for creating different kinds of projects, like jewelry, photos, wood projects, embossed/dimensional designs and other paper crafts. Step 2 Since thin layers work best when working with Craft Glaze (its not meant to be used for thick applications), for this paper craft well start by squeezing out some Craft Glaze onto the surface of the tag. Step 3 Next use a flat-bristled brush to smooth out the adhesive over the surface of the tag. Step 4 While the glue is still wet, press the dried flowers onto the tag where ever you like! Step 5 Once youre happy with your arrangement, youll want to seal it! Apply another coat of Craft Glaze over the top of the floral design. Step 6 Use your flat brush to smooth the adhesive over the top of the entire tag to seal and create a faux-enamel look. You could also tint the Craft Glaze by mixing it with acrylic paint before brushing it on, or even mix with glitter or beads for added texture, color and sparkle! Step 7 Let your project dry completely before attaching the tassels. If you want to create any extra embossed effects, you can apply Craft Glaze straight from the needlenose tip to create dots or other fun dimensional designs! We dont know about you, but were feeling more inspired to pick up a good book and do some reading with our fancy new bookmarks. Step 8 And thats how to use Aleenes Craft Glaze. Pretty easy, right? What else are you inspired to make with Craft Glaze? Make sure to tag us on social @aleenesdiy and share what youre making!

How To Make Flower Pens with Felt & Foam Glue

How To Make Flower Pens with Felt & Foam Glue

The only thing better than a beautiful bouquet of flowers is one that’s functional too! This clever craft from Ivy Pink Made turns pens into a colorful pot of flowers with sheets of foam and Aleene’s Felt & Foam Tacky Glue. Check out the tutorial to see how to make flower pens in the easiest way with just a few craft supplies. This project is a fun option for adding some personality to your desk or your child’s learning space, or giving as a gift for teachers and others who always need to have a pen handy! What you need: - Aleene’s Felt & Foam Tacky Glue - Pack of pens - Foam sheets in desired colors - Floral wire - Floral tape - Black beans (dried) - Small flowerpot or mug - Pens - ScissorsStep 1 Ready to learn how to make flower pens? First choose foam sheets in whichever colors you’d like to use for your flowers! Basic pens will also work great for this project, since you’ll be covering most of each pen with floral tape. Step 2 Cut out flowers and leaves from the foam sheets. Youll want to cut pieces of varying sizes that you can layer for each flower, as well as two leaf shapes per leaf (for gluing back-to-back). Step 3 Measure and cut two wires the length of the pen. One wire will be for the flower and one will be for the leaf. Do this for each flower pen you will be making. Step 4 To create the flowers, stick one end of one of the wires through the base foam flower piece and swirl the end so it stays in place (and wont slip back through the base piece). Use Felt & Foam Tacky Glue to glue the other foam flower layers in place on top of the wire and base. Sandwich the other wire between two foam leaf pieces and glue the leaves together to hold the wire in place. Repeat for all flowers and leaves, and let dry. Step 5 Once the flowers and leaves have dried, align the wire with the flower along one side of a pen, making sure the flower part sits on top of the pen base. Wrap floral tape around the pen and wire, starting under the flower piece. When you get about halfway down the pen, align the wire with the leaf on the other side of the pen and continue wrapping tape around the pen and wire. Trim any excess wire as needed. Step 6 When all of the flower pens are complete, fill your flowerpot or mug with dried black beans for the soil. The beans will hold the pens in place. Arrange the flower pens in the pot to your liking to form a colorful arrangement! Step 7 Wasnt that easy? Now you know how to make flower pens! This easy project is also kid friendly, so encourage your little ones to let their creativity bloom. What other foam projects are you cultivating with Aleenes Felt & Foam Tacky Glue? Whether it’s back-to-school season, Teacher Appreciation Week or the end of the school year, we love to celebrate our teachers and the hard work they do! This cute shadowbox teacher appreciation gift idea from LuluMake comes together easily with Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue and your own creative touch. Your student can get in on the DIY fun too by helping make the project or creating a special card to go with the gift! What you need: - Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue - Shadowbox - Wooden peg doll - Acrylic paints of choice + paintbrush - Felt pompoms - Paintbrush or pencil for a shadowbox decoration - Animal-shaped ruler or bookmark - Small tubes of paint - Beads - Wood letters to spell teacher’s nameStep 1 Before you get started on the teacher appreciation gift, LuluMake suggests asking your child about their teacher’s favorite colors and school subjects as a way to decide what to include. Or you can use items that reflect your child’s academic interests or what they’re learning about/have learned about during the school year. Step 2 Paint a wooden peg doll with acrylic paints to represent your student or their teacher, or simply however youd like to paint it! When its dry, apply Tacky Glue to the back side and press in place on your shadowbox base. Step 3 Rainbows are a colorful way to represent cheer and happy memories! Use your pompoms to create a rainbow around the wooden peg doll, gluing each in place in color order. Step 4 If your child likes math or maybe their favorite teacher is a math teacher you can include numbers in the shadowbox design, or other items like paintbrushes and pencils to represent other subjects or a school theme in general. Step 5 Next glue the teachers name along the top of the frame using wood letters. Tip from LuluMake: Dont worry if you accidentally apply too much glue and some seeps out when you press the items in place. You can easily wipe the glue away with a damp cloth or cotton swab while its still wet! Step 6 Continue gluing school-themed items around the frame, such as rulers, paint tubes and other colorful objects that represent your child or their teacher. Revitalize an Old Band Tee with Tie Dye

Revitalize an Old Band Tee with Tie Dye

Tucked away in closets everywhere are old T-shirts brimming with sentimental value yet showing the wear and tear of time. Why not inject new life into these cherished items? This guide, inspired by Oh Yay Studio, demonstrates how to transform an aged band tee into a dazzling, colorful piece using the Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit. Ideal for anyone looking to add a personalized touch to their wardrobe, follow these steps to upgrade your beloved shirts. What You Need: Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit An old white or light-colored band tee Plastic covering for your work surface Wire rack (optional) Step 1 Prepare shirt and mix dyes First, give the shirt a thorough wash and dry (if opting for a dry dyeing method). Then, select a palette that resonates with your style, and mix your tie-dye solutions as per the kit's instructions. Step 2 Fold and securing the shirt Decide on a folding technique for your project. We recommend the easy and effective crumple method for beginners: simply scrunch the fabric into a ball and secure it with rubber bands. Step 3 Apply the dye Position your shirt on a wire rack or a protected surface. Donning gloves provided in the kit, evenly apply your dye to the fabric, ensuring both sides receive color. Then, seal the shirt in a plastic bag or cover it to let the dye set. This process can take between 6 to 8 hours, or leave it overnight for deeper color saturation. Step 4 Reveal! After the dye has set, remove the rubber bands and wash the shirt as per the kit's laundering instructions. Your revitalized band tee is now ready to make its debut! This DIY project is a creative way to refresh any old tee with personal significance, making it a thoughtful gift or a fun activity for any occasion.
