DIY Tropical Party Décor with Spray Paint
Put yourself into a summer state of mind with DIY tropical party décor! Tropical décor is a fun way to add lush designs and vibrant color to summer pool parties, backyard barbecues, birthday celebrations, and more. Learn how to use COLORSHOT to transform your next party into a colorful luau with this tutorial from Oh Yay Studio! What you need: COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (This project uses Cosmo, Summer Pedicure, Orange Slice, Treasure Chest, Island Girl, Mermaid, Scuba, Cash, With a Twist, and Lucky Penny) COLORSHOT White Primer Cardboard Pencil Glue Measuring tape Scissors or box cutter Faux tropical leaves Drop cloth Balloon archCut tree trunk from cardboard Start this tropical party décor DIY by creating a palm tree trunk from cardboard. Find the middle of your piece of cardboard and mark the center axis with a pencil. Measure 24” across the bottom (left to right), 5 feet up (top to bottom) and 6 inches at the top (left to right). Measure and mark 8” up from the center of the 24” base. Mark 12” (from left to right) along that 8” center line. Connect the outside point of the 12” (from step c) to the 24” (in step b) from top to bottom in a diagonal line. Draw a long diagonal line from the 12” (from step c) to the 6” (in step b) from top to bottom. Finally, cut out your cardboard tree trunk. Once cut, trace this trunk onto another piece of cardboard so that you are left with 2 identical cardboard tree trunks. Notch your tree trunks halfway by cutting out 2 strips down the center of the tree trunks from top to bottom. This is so that your tree trunks can slide in and fit together. Cut palm leaves from cardboard Next, cut out the palm tree leaves for your tropical party décor. Cut out oblong shapes with a pointed tip at one end and a straight edge on the other. You’ll need to create at least 5 of these leaf shapes, or more for a fuller tree. Cut 5-7 notches in your leaves to make them look more like palm branch leaves. Prime and spray paint the cardboard leaves Place your cardboard palm leaves and tree trunk onto a drop cloth or other protective surface cover in a well-ventilated area and get ready to paint! Prime both sides of the cardboard pieces with COLORSHOT White Primer and allow to dry completely. Create a two-toned look for your tropical party décor by spray painting half of each leaf with Cash and the other With a Twist. Spray paint the tree trunk with Lucky Penny for a lovely rose gold metallic base! Prime and spray paint the cardboard leaves Oh Yay Studio also created a colorful balloon arch with matching leaves for her tropical party décor! Place faux tropical leaves onto your drop cloth, then prime and paint with your desired colors. For this project, we used Cosmo, Summer Pedicure, Orange Slice, Treasure Chest, Island Girl, Mermaid, and Scuba to make super colorful leaves! Prime and spray paint the cardboard leaves It’s time to assemble your tropical party décor! Cut a circle about 7” in diameter glue a 3” strip of cardboard around the outer edge. You can spray paint this piece as well, but it will mostly be hidden by the cardboard leaves. Glue the circle to the top of the tree trunk and cut slits into the leaves so that they can slide into the side walls. Continue assembling the leaves to fill your cardboard palm tree. Tropical party décor display Carefully place the spray-painted leaves into your balloon arch and display your DIY tropical party décor! These lush decorations look perfect next to a dessert table full of summer sweets!Get ready for summer with COLORSHOT! Will you be making your own tropical party décor with spray paint? Spray cart with several light coats Now the fun part! Shake and prep your spray paint according to instructions, then spray your golf cart with several light coats, letting dry in between coats. Light coats are always better than one heavy coat to avoid drips and paint running. Spray paint floor of golf cart You can paint your entire cart all one color, or get creative like Lolly Jane and paint different sections different colors. Spray paint inside the cart If you’ll be spray painting inside your cart like Lolly Jane, make sure you cover and tape all sections you don’t want painted to prevent accidental overspray. The great thing about COLORSHOT is that it dries to the touch in 10 minutes, so your prep work will probably take you longer than the paint process. (It’ll be worth it though!) Spray paint the canopy too Don’t forget to give the canopy some COLORSHOT Spray Paint love too! Once you’re happy with how everything turned out, let dry and cure completely before reassembling your golf cart. Golf Cart Makeover with COLORSHOT And just like that, you have a “new” golf cart for the price of a few cans of spray paint! Golf Cart Makeover with Spray Paint This golf cart makeover is aces, don’t you think? (Ace = hole in one. Don’t worry, we had to look it up too.) How to spray paint a golf cart Everyone in your crew will want to take a spin in your fancy new ride! Are you feeling as inspired as we are? Who wants to move next to a golf course now? Kitchen Storage Organization Tips
We’ve all had that moment in the middle of making dinner where we could have sworn we had a box of noodles … but we can’t find it. Now what to eat? What’s gonna go with all that sauce?! Freshly Fuji will help you never miss a spaghetti dinner again with kitchen storage organization tips for your pantry or food cabinet – ideas you can definitely use for organizing other spaces in your home. Make it easy, and make it colorful with COLORSHOT Premium Paint Products. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (desired colors) - COLORSHOT Premium Paint and Chalk Markers - COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints - Storage baskets, clear bins and clear containers of choice - Painter’s tape - Kraft paper - Stencils of choice - Paintbrushes/paint palette - Bin clip labels - White chalkboard adhesive paper - Craft knife - Adhesive pen caddyBefore – unorganized photo of pantry If you’re in need of kitchen storage organization tips, you are in the right place! Keeping an organized pantry/food cabinet helps with tracking your grocery list and easily finding ingredients and snacks when you need them! (Seriously how many bottles of mustard do you have to buy before remembering you already have three? Asking for a friend.) Freshly Fuji shared with us a photo of her food cabinet before she did a major kitchen storage organization overhaul. Get out your COLORSHOT and get ready to get inspired! Clear food storage containers Clear food containers are a great way to keep some of your food products like cereals and pasta fresh longer, and they also help you track when you are getting low on inventory. Use a chalk marker to label containers Use a COLORSHOT Chalk Marker to label the containers with the food items they contain. The best part is that when you use a Chalk Marker, you can easily wipe it away with a damp cloth and relabel with other item names as needed. Tip: use a strand of painter’s tape to help keep your labeling straight! Clear kitchen storage bins Another super useful kitchen storage organization tool is a clear bin. This helps you keep food items in boxes, cans and jars neatly organized by category (such as dinner ingredients or sauces, etc. – whatever kind of categorization works for you). Get creative with your labeling using Acrylic Paints and Paint Markers! Label the bins with paint and paint markers To label your clear bins, use a paintbrush to paint several layers of your favorite Acrylic Paint color onto the INSIDE front of the bin. (You can tape it off if you really want clean edges, or freehand for a less-structured look.) Once the paint dries, use a contrasting Chalk Paint Marker to write out the kinds of foods the bin will hold on the OUTSIDE of the bin, over the color swatch. (That way you can wipe away and relabel while keeping your base color intact.) Painted and labeled kitchen storage baskets Woven baskets are an excellent, stylish kitchen storage organization option for larger food items or cookware, or items you don’t necessarily want to look at but you still need. Spray painting them is an easy way to add some color in your organization theme! Mask and spray paint baskets Use painter’s tape and heavy kraft paper to tape off any portion of your baskets that you don’t want to spray paint. Working in a well-ventilated area, spray several light coats of your chosen color onto the basket. Remove the tape and paper, and let dry. Clip labels onto baskets Once your woven baskets are dry, clip the bin labels on and use your Chalk Marker to label each. Whiteboard list for cabinets Whiteboard cabinet doors are a smart kitchen organization tool to help keep the contents of your pantry organized without taking up space! You can track your grocery list, menu for the week and more! Attach whiteboard to cabinet door To create your own whiteboard cabinet doors: Measure the inside surface of your cabinet doors and trim the chalkboard paper to fit. Peel off a few inches of the liner and apply the chalkboard adhesive to the top portion of the door. Repeat this process, removing a little bit of the liner at a time until you get to the bottom. Use a scraper tool to help smooth out any bubbles as you go. Trim off any excess adhesive paper with a craft knife. You can attach a caddy inside the cabinet to hold your colored Chalk Markers to use for writing your grocery list and planning out your weekly menu. Wipe off with a damp cloth when you’re ready for next week! Use a stencil and acrylic paint to decorate drawers This decorative stenciled drawers idea from Freshly Fuji isn’t a must, but we love the added touch for creating a kitchen storage space you want to keep up! Simply press an adhesive-backed stencil of your choice onto the drawers and brush Acrylic Paint over the stencil. Remove and let dry, and you have some pretty new drawers to go with your organized pantry! Colorful organized pantry We’re obsessed with all of this colorful kitchen storage organization, aren’t you?! Who wants to spend more time getting snacks from the pantry just to admire it?! (Us!) Upcycle Your Shipping Boxes with these Giftwrap Hacks
We’ve all been doing a lot more online shopping this year, and it’s probably safe to say the shipping boxes are piling up. Instead of tossing ‘em, put your boxes to good use this holiday season! Freshly Fuji will show you how to use COLORSHOT Premium Paint Products to upcycle basic shipping boxes into the prettiest gifts under your tree. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint in desired colors - COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints in desired colors - COLORSHOT Premium Paint Markers in desired colors - Circle stickers - Washi tape - Hot glue gun - Protective covering - Acrylic ornaments - Paintbrushes - Paint palette - White wrapping paper - Pencil - YardstickSpray paint giftwrap supplies In this post we’ll be showing you three different giftwrap hacks to make your holiday gift giving extra merry & bright! First up is the easiest way to do giftwrap – with spray paint instead of actual wrapping paper! Glue the bottom box flaps in place and let dry, then fill the boxes with gifts and glue the top flaps in place. Press circle stickers in place Polka dots are always a fun giftwrap idea, so if you’re going for this look, press circle stickers randomly in place around the box to act as a resist for the spray paint. Create abstract patterns with washi tape You can also use washi tape to create cool abstract patterns on your boxes. Once you have all boxes set with stickers or tape, it’s time to spray paint them! Spray paint shipping boxes For this giftwrap hack, Freshly Fuji used two COLORSHOT spray paint colors to create an ombré effect. You can do the same, or choose just one color. Get creative and have fun making your gifts POP with color! Spray each box until you’re happy with the coverage. Spray Painted Gift Boxes Remove the stickers and tape to reveal the fun designs on your boxes! Once they’re completely dry, you can add ribbons and gift tags, and these colorful gifts are ready to place under your tree. Custom Loop Giftwrap Still love using wrapping paper to wrap your gifts? Freshly Fuji has ideas for that too! For an easy looped design, lay out your write wrapping paper flat on your work surface, then use your favorite COLORSHOT Paint Markers to create diagonal lines of loops running from one end to another. Let dry completely before wrapping gifts. Custom Gridded Wrapping Paper Another easy custom wrapping paper idea is colorful gridlines! Use a yardstick and your favorite Paint Marker colors to alternate straight lines of color in one direction, spaced about an inch apart. After they dry, create lines of color in the opposite direction, intersecting the lines to create a grid pattern. (If you’re an uber perfectionist, you can use a pencil to first measure and mark out your lines before using your Paint Markers.) Make sure to let everything dry before using your new gridded giftwrap! Custom Rainbow Giftwrap If you’re the sunshine & rainbows type no matter how frosty the weather is outside, this design is for you! Create little rainbow motifs onto a section of wrapping paper, alternating your favorite Paint Marker colors for each arc. Once dry, it’s time to make someone smile with a fun gift wrapped in this happy-go-lucky wrapping paper! Custom Wrapping Paper After your custom-designed wrapping paper dries, it’s time to pretty up those presents (in all of those extra shipping boxes you have lying around)! Custom ornament gift tags Another super fabulous giftwrap hack is to turn ornaments into gift tags! They’ll make a great keepsake your friends and family can hang on their tree year after year. These ornament gift tags don’t have to be complicated to look amazing. Paint ornaments with acrylic paints First make sure the ornaments are clean and free from dust and prints. Choose two complementary COLORSHOT Acrylic Paint colors, then use a paintbrush to brush the paints on in abstract swatches. Brush on two or three coats depending on the opacity you are going for, letting dry between coats. Let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step. Create initials on ornaments Once the ornaments dry, flip them over and use an Acrylic Paint Marker or Chalk Marker in the color of your choice to create each gift recipient’s initial on the opposite side. Let dry. Custom ornament gift tags Tie those colorful custom tags on with matching ribbon and get ready to take the title of best gift giver away from Santa this year! However your family is celebrating this year, we hope this inspires you to brighten things up with lots of color and your favorite COLORSHOT paint products. What you need: COLORWHEEL COSTUME - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (Farmer’s Daughter, Summer Pedicure, Orange Slice, Emoji, With a Twist, Island Girl, Splash, Aromatherapy) - White foam board - Pencil, string and tape - Box cutter - Sandpaper - Rag - Protractor - Yard stick - Kraft paper - Delicate surface tape - Colored ribbon - Hot glue gun - Hook & loop strips - Drop cloth or protective plastic covering PAINT CHIP COSTUME - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints – 3 coordinating colors – light, medium and dark - COLORSHOT Premium Chalk Marker – Marshmallow - White foam board 20” x 30” - Kraft paper - Delicate surface tape - Pencil - Yard stick - Ribbon - Hot glue gun - Hook & loop strips DOG COSTUMES - COLORSHOT Premium Chalk Markers – Basic 6 Pack - COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints – Rainbow 10 Pack - Black foam board - White foam board - Pencil, ruler, compass - Chalk - Box cutter - Rag - PaintbrushCreate and cut a circle from foam core To create the color wheel half of your DIY couples Halloween costume, first you’ll need a circle! Freshly Fuji used a protractor and pencil to create a perfectly rounded circle on white foam board, then cut it out with a box cutter. Sand the edges for a smooth finish. Create 8 wedge shapes on circle Use your yard stick and pencil to divide the circle into 8 even wedge sections. Freshly Fuji started by drawing a line down the center of the circle, then using a protractor to make markings at 45°, 90°, and 135° in the center on each side of the main line. Use these marks as a guide to create three straight lines, which will intersect and create your wedge shapes. Cover other wedges and spray paint Cover all wedges on your circle with kraft paper except one. Tape the edges down in place. This will help protect from overspray while painting each wedge a different color. Prep your first COLORSHOT spray paint color according to instructions, then apply several light coats to your wedge, letting dry between coats. When you are happy with the coverage, let dry. Repeat covering and spray painting wedges Remove paper from the next wedge, then cover the wedge you just painted to protect it from overspray. Or you can work in an every-other pattern if you are looking to get your wheel done a little sooner, because it gives the painted wedges more time to dry before covering. Let color wheel dry completely However you decide to apply your spray paints, make sure you work in color order, just like a color wheel! Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step. Glue ribbon to back side of color wheel Once your painted wedges have dried, flip over your color wheel. Measure and cut a strand of ribbon long enough to fit around your neck. Mark the placement for each end of the ribbon on the back of your color wheel, then hot glue one end of the ribbon onto one of the markings. On the other marking, glue one of the hook & loop tape strips onto the marking, and the other onto the ribbon. Let dry and they will be ready to attach together. Color Wheel DIY Couples Halloween Costume Now the color wheel part of your DIY couples Halloween costume is complete! Create 3 equal sections on foam board For the paint chip portion of your DIY couples Halloween costume, first divide the foam board into 3 equal sections using a pencil and yard stick. Cover the bottom two sections with kraft paper and tape along the line of the first section for a clean edge. Spray first spray paint color on top section Spray several light coats of your lightest COLORSHOT spray paint color onto the first (top) section of your paint chip board, letting dry between coats. Once you are happy with the coverage, let dry and remove the tape and paper. Repeat painting each section with the next darker hue Cover over and tape off the top and bottom sections, then spray paint your medium hue onto the middle section. Let dry and repeat for the remaining section with your darkest hue. Create paint names with Chalk Marker Sketch the name of each spray paint color onto the corresponding color in the bottom left corner of the board, then trace over each name with the Marshmallow Chalk Marker. Let dry. Glue ribbon to back of paint chip costume Attach a strand of ribbon for the neck loop to the back of the paint chip costume in the same way as the color wheel. Paint Chip DIY Couples Halloween Costume Your DIY couples Halloween costume has its other half! PS. Does anyone else feel like repainting every room in their house now, or is that just us? DIY Pet Halloween Costumes To get your furry family members in on the fun, here are a few additional pet Halloween costume ideas to go with your DIY couples Halloween costume! Use compass to create circles on foam board For the paint palette costume, use a compass to help draw an inner and outer circle sized to fit around your dog’s neck. Cut out circle and sketch pawprints Cut out the circle and sketch pawprints around it. Paint pawprints with acrylic paints Paint each pawprint design with a different rainbow color using your COLORSHOT Acrylic Paints. Let dry completely. Paint Palette Dog Costume Isn’t this the cutest paint palette you’ve ever seen?! Or as Freshly Fuji calls it, a “Paint Pawlette”! Cut foam board to fit dog and create chalkboard effect For the doodle dog costume, trim the black foam board to fit your dog, then cut a circle out to fit around its head. Sand all of the edges for a smooth finish, then use a piece of chalk to create a chalkboard effect by rubbing the side of it all across the board. Use a rag to wipe some of it away. Sketch dog body onto board Use a pencil to sketch a dog doodle onto the board, then trace over it with Chalk Markers. Let dry completely. Sketch Board Dog Costume We are so ready for our photo op with this adorable dog in his dog doodle costume! Someone grab the treats for this sweet little guy! Create grid lines on hat Use the Brownie Points Paint Marker and a ruler to create grid lines on the hat cutout. Form into cone shape and glue Add craft glue to one side of the hat, then wrap both ends around to form it into a cone shape. Press the side without glue into the glue on the other side. Glue cone hat to headband Use your hot glue gun to glue the ice cream cone hat in place on a headband. Draw sprinkles on T-shirt Place freezer paper or heavy cardstock in between the layers of your white T-shirt to help prevent any paint from soaking through to the back of the shirt. Use your COLORSHOT Paint Markers to draw “sprinkles” onto the T-shirt to your liking. Let it dry completely before wearing. Customize Your Stock Tank Pool with COLORSHOT
Swim season isn’t over YET, and we’re planning on staying in the pool til the leaves fall from the trees. Stock tank pools are all the rage right now, and we can see why. They’re still big enough to swim in, but not nearly as expensive as putting in and maintaining an actual swimming pool. And we’re of the opinion that if you’re going to get a stock tank pool, you might as well have one in the colors you love. That’s why Lolly Jane is going to show you how to paint your stock tank pool the right way in this easy tutorial. Give the rest of summer a splash of fabulous color with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint! What you need: COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (desired color) - 10 cans - Galvanized stock tank pool - Paint thinner - Fine-grit sandpaper - White vinegar - RagPrep stock tank pool for painting Before painting your stock tank pool, it helps to prop it up on tables if you can, for easier access when painting. Lolly Jane also recommends removing the protective oil coating on the outer layer by using paint thinner and a rag. After doing this, use fine-grit sandpaper to rough up the surface of the pool so the paint has an easier time gripping it. Wipe off the dust with a clean rag, then apply a coat of white vinegar and let set an hour or so before wiping off. This will help break up any remnants of the shiny protective coat. Spray paint outside of pool with light coats Since COLORSHOT Spray Paints already have primer in them, you can skip the priming step and get right to painting! Apply several light coats of your favorite spray paint color, letting dry in between coats. Tip from Lolly Jane: Don’t worry about painting the inside of the pool. The paint will likely flake and peel off over time with water being inside of it. Fill stock tank pool and enjoy Once your paint has completely cured, it’s time to fill it and enjoy! Isn’t it so much better when you have a pool that matches your personality? Of course it is! Customize your stock tank pool with COLORSHOT How will your customize your stock tank pool with COLORSHOT? Make a First Day of School Sign with COLORSHOT
Even if your kiddos will be learning from home this semester, you can still celebrate their first day back to school! Norx in the Know shows you how easy it is to make the cutest custom sign for photos using COLORSHOT Premium Paint Products. You can make one to document their first day of the school year, then one for their last to compare how much your student has grown and changed throughout the year! What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint in desired background color (Little Black Dress used for this project) - COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints in desired colors - COLORSHOT Premium Paint Markers in desired colors - Picture frame with backing and glass panel - Thin cardboard cut to fit inside frame - Paintbrushes - Stencil (make your own by hand cutting or using a die cutting machine) - Tape - Paper plate or paint paletteCreate stencil using die cutting machine Before creating your first day of school sign, you’re going to need a stencil! If you have a die cutting machine, this will probably be the easiest and fastest way to make your stencil. If not, you can always hand create one on cardstock and use a craft knife to cut out the designs, or simply freehand draw and paint your designs onto the cardboard insert. Spray paint cardboard, then place stencil on top Before applying your stencil designs, spray paint the cardboard piece with whatever color of COLORSHOT Spray Paint you like! Once it’s completely dry, center your stencil over the top (taping in place if needed). Or if you aren’t using a stencil, here’s where you can use a chalk pencil to sketch your design before painting, or jump right in to freehand painting! Use your paintbrushes and COLORSHOT Acrylic Paints to apply your chosen colors of paint to the stencil designs. You can also use COLORSHOT Paint Markers for this step! Let dry and add a second coat if desired, and once completely dry, remove the stencil (if using). Write answers to questions with Paint Markers If you plan on saving this sign as a keepsake, you can write your child’s answers to the questions directly on the cardboard with the design, or you can save the sign for each year and write their answers on the frame glass with an erasable marker. That way you can change it out year after year with new responses! Place sign in the picture frame Now it’s time to capture your superstar student with their custom first day of school sign and photo. The school year will fly by, and before you know it, you’ll be snapping their last day of school photo with a whole new sign, and probably lots of new answers! So needless to say, we’re in the mood to cool down with something frozen and preferably delicious, like ice cream! This upcycle project from Chica and Jo turns an antique popcorn cart into a treat for the senses with a little help from COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint. Pallet Project Idea: American Flag
Pallets are great for transporting, protecting and storing items, but they also make great tools for creativity too! Case in point: this so fabulous American Flag pallet project idea from one of our very own COLORSHOT team members, Lindsay Sherfy. If you're spending Fourth of July festivities at home this year, give your yard some star-spangled flair with a big patriotic pallet flag that's super easy to make with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (Stamped Passport, Stiletto, Marshmallow) - 2 Wood pallets - Wood stars - Painter's tape - Industrial/wood glue This pallet project idea actually requires very few supplies for a piece that makes such an impact. Wipe down your pallets to remove any extra dust or debris, then tape off every other section of each to protect from overspray. Also tape off a square section on the upper left corner (measuring 4 rows) of the pallet where your stars and blue paint will go. Spray several light coats of Stiletto onto the exposed panels of the pallet, letting dry between coats. Once you are happy with the coverage, remove the tape from the covered sections (except for the square area). Once the red stripes dry, cover them with tape (or use tape around the edges and sturdy paper like butcher's paper if you're worried about taping over the color). Repeat spraying the remaining stripe sections with Marshmallow (white) spray paint. Spray your wood stars with Marshmallow as well. Remove the tape from the square section on the left corner (but masking around the square) and spray with several light coats of Stamped Passport. Remove all protective tape/coverings and let dry completely. Once the paint has dried, use your industrial or wood glue to glue your painted stars in place in the blue square section. Let completely dry. When your pallets are dry, it's time to prop them up in your yard! You can display them on their own or as a colorful backdrop for your serving table or seating areas. This American Flag pallet project idea also makes for a fun patriotic photo backdrop! However you're celebrating Independence Day this year, do it with more flair than fireworks using COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints!
