DIY Tie Dye With Fabric Paint

Just because summer has come to a close doesn’t mean that you have to pack up all of the fun summer colors. Tie-dye clothing is a great way to carry sunny summer vibes with you into autumn in a stylish (and thrifty) way! Holly from Club Crafted shows you how to turn any of your favorite shirts into a DIY tie-dye masterpiece for an easy way to keep your fall full of fun, bright looks. The best part is that the only art supplies you’ll need are your favorite Tulip Soft Fabric Paint colors! What you need: Tulip Soft Fabric Paints - 4 to 5 colors of choice White shirt (cotton, pre-washed recommended) Squeeze bottles Water Rubber bands Plastic/rubber gloves First, you’ll need to get your Soft Paint colors mixed with water and ready to be used. (This technique requires you to water down the paints a bit.) Squeeze about 1-2 tablespoons of paint into an empty squeeze bottle. Fill the remainder of squeeze bottle with water and close the lid tightly and shake away! It’s important that the solution is mixed thoroughly for color application. Tip: you can test the diluted paint on a scrap fabric swatch to make sure it's properly mixed, or just do a visual check if your bottle is clear. Now it’s time to prep your shirt. This is where you can get a bit creative. The way that you lay out your white shirt will determine how your tie-dye pattern turns out. You can vertically pleat the shirt and fold in half as done here, or experiment with other tie-dye techniques. Now you’re almost ready to dye your shirt! Once rubber bands have been tightly placed on the shirt, wet the fabric and then ring it out to remove excess water. The shirt should just be damp. Don’t forget to put on your rubber gloves before dyeing the fabric and cover your surface with plastic to protect it from stains. Finally, you have the chance to get creative. Take your diluted fabric paints and go crazy! Squeeze your mixed fabric paints on the shirt where you wish to have color. Once the shirt has been completely colored, remove the rubber bands. Technically, your shirt is done once it’s completely dry! However, if you would like to achieve the above watercolor look, rinse lightly (colors will run) and allow your DIY tie dye shirt to dry completely. For more white sections and brighter colors, allow to dry completely and DO NOT rinse. And that’s just it! After less than 10 steps, you’re ready to take on the new season with fun rainbow colored vibes.

Halloween Decor DIY: Witch Brooms

Halloween Decor DIY: Witch Brooms

Witch-themed costumes and decor are a Halloween tradition in our minds, and you can either go the super scary route, or the cute "Hocus Pocus" kind of witch route. This year we're vibing with the latter for our Halloween Decor DIYs, so we couldn't pass up these fun witch brooms made by our friend @citygirlmeetsfarmboy using COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints. Read on to see how easy it is to turn ordinary brooms into the perfect Halloween porch decorations with spray paint and ribbons. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (this project features Silver Lining, Black Tie Affair, Orange Slice) - Straw brooms - Painter's tape - Halloween ribbons Make sure your broom handles are clean and free of dust. Spray each with several light coats of Silver Lining, letting dry between coats. Once completely dry, wrap painter's tape in a spiral around each handle from top to bottom. For one of the brooms, spray several light coats of Orange Slice over the tape openings, letting dry between coats. When you are happy with the coverage, remove tape and let dry. Repeat on other broom with Black Tie Affair. Cover handles with protective plastic to protect from overspray, and spray straw portion of brooms with Black Tie Affair. Let dry then tie festive Halloween ribbons around the straw. What trick-or-treater wouldn't want to stop by this porch?! Clearly you have great taste! (In Halloween Decor DIYs but probably in candy too.)

Easy Ice Cream Cone Costume Tutorial

Take a break from scary this Halloween and wear something sweet instead! There's no trick to wearing this treat of a costume created with Tulip Dazzling Glitter Paints and a simple white dress. Holly from Club Crafted shows you how to make this Ice Cream Cone Costume for an easy way to sprinkle some fun on your Halloween festivities. What you need: - Tulip Dazzling Glitter Paint - White dress - Brown kraft paper - Ruler - Brown marker - Scissors - Tape - String - Hole punch - Freezer paper/wax paper Lay your clean dress out flat on your work surface. Tip: you can insert a piece of freezer paper or wax paper inside of your dress to help prevent any paint potentially soaking through the fabric to the backside. Use different colors of Dazzling Glitter Paint to create sprinkles all over the top half of dress, tapering off as you get towards the bottom of dress. Let dry completely once you have finished adding paint. Cut a large triangle from brown kraft paper and use your ruler and a brown marker to create crisscross lines over the entire triangle. This will create a waffle cone effect. Roll the triangle into a cone shape (design outward) and tape along edge to hold in place, trimming edges and the bottom of cone to perfect the shape and so it sits flat. Make sure to tape on the inside as well for an extra secure hold. Punch a hole on each side of the cone and tie each end of a string through the holes to create a way to hold the cone hat on your head. Tip: first measure the amount of string you'll need for a secure fit around your face, trimming as needed before tying to hat. And that's it! Just a few simple steps to making your own DIY Ice Cream Cone Costume for a sweet spin on Halloween.

Painted Room Divider

Painted Room Divider

If you've asked yourself lately, "Do people still use room dividers?" you're not alone. The answer to your question is YES. (Aren't you glad you stopped by this blog post? We've got a lot of answers to random questions.) Whether you actually NEED a room divider or you're just using it for decorative purposes isn't relevant ... what is relevant is the color of your room divider, and does it vibe with your decor? If it doesn't, don't stress, because you can have it coordinating with your space in no time with quick-drying COLORSHOT. So get out the spray paint and get ready to impress all of your friends, not only because of your decorating skills, but because you can now answer their questions as to whether people still use room dividers. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Island Girl) - Wood room divider Make sure your room divider is clean and free of any dust. You'll want to work in a well-ventilated area, so this makes a great outdoor project. You can paint the divider all one color like we did, or if you're feeling super artsy, you can mask off sections and use different colors. It's your project - have fun with it! Spray several light coats of color onto the divider, allowing to dry in between coats. Avoid getting too heavy handed so your paint doesn't run, and if your divider has lots of cutouts and details like ours, check to make sure you've worked your paint into the openings. Look at that bold pop of color! A painted room divider was a good idea after all, don't you think?! And yes we made it match our favorite pair of pumps, because that's how we roll.

Giant Painted Jenga Inspired Game

Giant Painted Jenga Inspired Game

Is your house the place to be when it comes to summer fun? If you don't have a pool and your kitchen is loaded with kale and lentils instead of the sweetest snacks money can buy, don't worry, there's still time to put your game face on and win the title of best backyard on the block. For starters, summer games for your backyard are awesome and they're super easy to DIY. This giant Jenga®-Inspired game makes a fun activity for kids, and is also perfect for people of all ages ... we can't help you with cutting the wood (there are so many easy tutorials online though), but we CAN help you EASILY add color with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint so you have the best-looking giant Jenga®-inspired game around. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Emoji, Orange Slice, Stiletto, Mermaid, Black Tie Affair) - 54 Oversized wood pieces (cut to the same size) - Painter's tape To make your own giant Jenga®-inspired game, first you'll need 54 wood pieces, all cut to the same size. If you're not exactly sure how to do this, there are lots of great tutorials online, or you could just get someone else to do it for you. (We're fans of that idea.) For our set, we chose 5 COLORSHOT spray paint colors because we're all about color. You could absolutely use less colors or more if you're even crazier about color than we are! You'll want to make sure you're in a well-ventilated area when working with any spray paint, so this makes a great outdoor project, especially since you'll need more room when working with oversized game pieces. Lay the wood pieces of your first color in a row on a protected surface and tape all around the edges to hold the pieces together and to mask around the edges. Spray several light coats of your first color onto the tops of wood pieces, letting dry in between coats. When the tops are dry, carefully flip over and repeat on the backside. Another option is to spray the ends of some of the wood pieces like we did, or all of them if you feel like it. Have fun with it! To spray the ends, place the wood pieces vertically together and tape around the sides as shown to keep the sides protected from overspray. Spray several light coats of color until your desired coverage is achieved, letting dry between coats. Let dry and flip over to repeat on other side. Once you've finished spraying, remove tape and let everything dry completely. Repeat for other pieces as desired. Now you're ready to crush the competition with your skills. This oversized Jenga®-inspired game is great for barbeques, parties or even just a fun game for kids any day of the week. Let the summer games begin!

Monogram Painted Charger Plates

Monogram Painted Charger Plates

Some might argue that the table styling at a dinner party is actually more important than the dinner itself; and they would be right. But does this mean that you have to go out and spend a fortune on servingware and table decor to maintain your new yearly title of "Everyone's Favorite Party Hostess/Host"? Obviously not, because you are far too clever and creative to empty your bank account on decor and leave nothing left for spending on food. Hangry guests defeat the purpose of a dinner party. Serve up your main dish in style with Monogram Painted Charger Plates easily made with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint. Why the monogram? That way everyone knows whose table takes the cake in style and cuisine. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (we used Primer, Extra Guacamole and Marshmallow) - Metal charger plates - Stencil cutting machine Make sure metal charger plate is clean and free of dust. Spray with Primer and let dry completely. Spray the front of charger with Marshmallow. Once completely dry, press a vinyl monogram sticker (if you can't find online you can make your own with contact paper) on the center of charger. Spray several light coats of Extra Guacamole over the entire charger until desired coverage is achieved, letting dry in between coats. Remove monogram sticker.

Whether you're going for a hike, working out at the hotel gym (again we must emphasize, if you're working out during vacation - are you even human?) or taking in the sights, you can't go wrong with a tie-dye T-shirt. Try the spiral tie-dye technique or any of these other easy tie-dye techniques, and if you're still feeling creative, grab a pair of scissors and cut off the sleeves, neckline or other details for a truly custom altered tie-dye T-shirt. Tie-Dye Kimono Kimonos are the perfect article of clothing to take on your vacation because of their versatility! They make excellent swimsuit covers and also look lovely when worn with a dress, a pair of jeans, shorts or a skirt. There are so many ways to mix things up! Tie-Dye Jean Shorts Jean shorts are another wardrobe staple and perfect for summer vacation adventures. Tie-dye jean shorts are even better, and tie-dye jean shorts that have a galaxy pattern have us seeing stars! You can also try different tie-dye patterns ... get creative with it! Tie-Dye Bandana You didn't think we'd forget about accessories, did you?! 5 Easy Shibori Tie Dye DIYs

5 Easy Shibori Tie Dye DIYs

Published Date: April 30, 2019 The popularity of shibori tie dye has been on the rise the last few years, but this indigo tie-dye fashion trend has actually been around since about the 8th century (that's a lonnnnnnng time ago) and originated in Japan. Here in the 21st century, we're still loving this tie-dye technique and are digging how people are working it into their everyday fashion. Shibori is traditionally a resist-dye technique using indigo dye and can be used to create a variety of beautiful patterns on fabric. We rounded up 5 easy shibori tie-dye fashions you can do yourself using blue dyes in the Tulip Shibori Tie-Dye Kits, but as always, have fun with your tie dye! Try changing up your colors, or using multiple dye colors ... there really is no wrong way to tie dye. Read on to get inspired. Supplies needed - Tulip Shibori Tie-Dye Kit - 3 color or 5 color - Cotton, silk or rayon fabric item to tie dye - PVC pipe or tube for rolling fabric (if using the poll-wrap technique) Instructions Shibori Tie-Dye Dress Whether you're taking a walk in the park on a beautiful day, brunching with friends or putting in some serious work at the office, you'll look chic every minute of your day in a shibori tie-dye dress! Paired with heels or sandals, a jean jacket or a blazer, this dress will take you from day to night without skipping a beat. Even better, it's super easy to make; snag a white dress online or at the store, grab a PVC pipe and get the simple tutorial here. Shibori Tie-Dye Men's T-shirt Guys can rock shibori too! What we love about shibori is that you can really play with your resist patterns to create new and interesting effects like this T-shirt made with lots of zip ties. Make sure your shirt is 100% cotton, then use the vertical stripe tie-dye technique, adding lots of zip ties on the top half of the shirt and just a few on the bottom half. The result: a look so hot you'll need to run out and grab a snow cone to cool down. Shibori Tie-Dye Skirt A variation on the vertical stripe tie-dye technique shown above, this shibori tie-dye skirt uses string instead of rubber bands or zip ties. To achieve this look: tightly bind the top of skirt with lots of strands of string and little spacing in between. Indigo blue looks amazing, but you can definitely experiment with other colors or multiple colors depending on the look you are going for. How can you not want to twirl around after creating something so fab?! Shibori Bullseye Tie-Dye Shirt We might be biased, but we think lattes taste better when you're wearing tie dye. Everything is better when you're wearing tie dye! This shibori T-shirt is so easy to make using the bullseye tie-dye technique and lots of zip ties. Start on the side of your T-shirt instead of the center and work your way out, binding until you reach the other side of the shirt. Then add dye for a shibori T-shirt we know you'll like "a latte." (Sorry, we couldn't RESIST the pun - or the play on "resist"! Okay we'll stop.) Shibori Tie-Dye Top A lot of people ask if they can tie dye fabrics that aren't 100% cotton. Here is an example of a polyester/cotton blend top we dyed in shibori style. The result is more of a downplayed, faded look instead of super bold, which we think can be super fab on the right garments and depending on the vibe you are going for (think downtown cool). Just make sure your fabric does have a majority of cotton in the blend because 100% polyester won't absorb the dye. To get this look, use strands of string to bind the top half of your shirt using the stripe tie-dye technique, pleating the fabric along the curve of the neckline. Then add dye to only the bound portion of the top. And afterward? The world is your runway in this casual, cool shibori tie-dye look!

DIY Splatter Paint Weights

If you've been looking for something to get pumped about, you've come to the right place! We're talking literally AND figuratively here. Liven up your workout routine with a little extra color that'll help your mood to stay motivated go a long way; and before you hop online to search high and low for a fancy set of weights, step away from opening a new browser and stay right here to finish reading this post. Because we'll show you that all you need are Tulip Soft Fabric Paints in your favorite shades and a paintbrush you probably already have in a drawer somewhere to create a set of weights that are as artistic as they are useful. What you need: - Tulip Soft Fabric Paint - desired colors - Neoprene weights - Paintbrush - Disposable plastic cups - Plastic surface cover First choose a Soft Paint color palette that makes you want to pump some iron. Or just one that you think is pretty. Squeeze some of each paint color into disposable cups or onto a paint palette (or paper plate - whatever you have at home). You might want to slightly water them down for easier splattering - test first on scrap paper or your protective plastic cover. Throw down your first paint color. Literally. Scoop it up with your paintbrush and throw it down over each weight to create splatter effects. Repeat the process with each paint color until you are happy with how the weights look. Let them dry completely, then flip over and repeat on the underside if needed. Is it just us, or is the splattered area around the weights just as cool as the weights?! Maybe you want to try placing a canvas underneath so you can capture all of the paint splatter for a cool art piece as well! Get pumped! Your weights are ready for action! If you work out with friends or family, they make a great personalized fitness-themed gift as well.

Tie-Dye Shorts 3 Ways

Tie-Dye Shorts 3 Ways

Published Date: May 29, 2018 Summer time means two things; shorts and tie-dye! In case you didn’t know, tie-dye isn’t just for shirts. You can dye pretty much anything! So since the weather is getting warmer, why not add some color to your favorite pair of shorts? Here are 3 ways you can use Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye to give your shorts a fun spin. Supplies needed -Tulip Tie-Dye Party Kit Instructions This first one is super simple! All you do is take your dye, and apply it in a stripe pattern on your shorts. The colors will blend a little, but that’s okay! Now you have an awesome rainbow on a summer day. Check out how Crafty Chica created hers! You’ve heard of ombre hair, ombre nails, but guess what; the ombre technique has made its way to tie-dye and it’s pretty awesome! If your shorts aren’t already white, or a lighter wash finish, then we suggest bleaching them for best results. Then add the dye to the bottom of your shorts and use a brush to brush the dye up towards the top. The color should fade as you brush up, giving the ombre effect (You could totally start at the top and work your way down too). Pearmama created some awesome ombre shorts here. The last technique that would be awesome to try with your shorts is the dip dye technique. Simply put your dye powder in the tub and just add water. Here, two colors are used but you could just use one if you like. Take your shorts and dip! That’s it! Look at how awesome this patriotic pattern came out! There are many other ways you can dye your shorts, but these are the most fun! And that’s what summer time is all about right? Don’t forget to be creative and colorful!

Stenciled Fabric Markers

Stenciled Fabric Markers

Did you know that you can use fabric markers with a stencil?! It's true! Use a stencil to guide you as you color and design to your heart's content. We will show you two methods to using a stencil - a removable stencil and a permanent stencil option. What you need: Tulip Fabric Markers in your choice of colors Blank zipper pouch Stencil cut using your favorite cutting machine. You'll need an adhesive vinyl stencil for removable and a heat transfer vinyl stencil for a permanent stencil. For the removable stencil, weed out the portions that you would like to color in with Fabric Markers. Using transfer tape, attach your stencil to your pencil pouch. Using Fabric Markers, fill in stencil spaces as desired -have fun!! When dry, remove the stencil vinyl to reveal your project! For a permanent stencil, use heat transfer vinyl and weed out the portions that you would like to color in. Attach the vinyl to your pencil pouch using an iron or heat press. Remove carrier sheet. Color in stencil as desired - have fun! Remember, the vinyl is permanent on this project and will not be removed. Whether you use a removable stencil or a permanent one, both projects are super fun and turn out great. Enjoy how easy it is to use so many different colors in your design when you're using Fabric Markers!

Published Date: July 06, 2015 Designed and created by Lauri Eaton Spend your summer in relaxed style that still makes a statement. Comfort meets cool with an abstract tie-dye design in beautiful shades of blue. Wash dress and leave damp. Lay out flat on covered work surface and smooth out wrinkles. Use marker to draw a few random lines and circles on dress. Pleat along these lines and secure with zip ties. Scrunch remainder of dress into random, flat bundle and secure with rubber bands. Mix dyes according to package directions. Apply Blue dye along zip tied sections of dress. Pour a small amount of Turquoise into extra mixing bottle and fill with water. Add additional dye or water to create a light shade of turquoise. Test on scrap fabric until desired shade is achieved. Repeat above step with Green dye. Apply diluted dyes randomly to scrunched sections of dress. Apply full-strength dyes sparingly to accent. Cover dyed dress with plastic and let set 6-8 hours. Remove bands and zip ties from dress, and rinse under running water to remove excess dye. Wash and dry dress as fabric requires.

Going Coastal Fabric Spray Tee

Going Coastal Fabric Spray Tee

Stay cool in the crazy summer heat with clothing that's nautically nice! Stripes in shades of blue always remind us of beachy fun, even if we're nowhere near the sand and surf. Even better, you can make your own designer-looking threads for half the price in a few easy steps! Wash and dry a plain white T-shirt to remove the protective sizing from the fabric. (This is an important step because the sizing can block the fabric from absorbing the spray paint.) Then lay your shirt out flat on a covered work surface and add strips of painter's tape horizontally across the entire shirt. Place a piece of wax paper or freezer paper inside of shirt to prevent paint from soaking through to the backside. Spray a light, even coat of ColorShot across exposed fabric. Let dry for a few minutes and repeat with another light coat of color. Remove strips of tape and let shirt dry completely before wearing. Now you're ready to hit the town in cool coastal style!

Knot And Tie Galaxy Shirt Tutorial

Knot And Tie Galaxy Shirt Tutorial

Well howdy hoo little galaxy peeps! I am so excited to share today's post with you one because I love T-Shirts and two because I love tie dye. Fine. There is a third one, I LOVE THE GALAXY (insert a LOUD yell here). It seems everywhere I go lately there are galaxy shoes, shirts, back packs, tights and undies! Does it take a special person to wear the UNIVERSE on them, hot diggity dog, NO! Today I will show you how to dye, cut and tie a shirt so let's get started! For this project you will need: *100% cotton black tee shirt, 1-2 sizes larger than you normally wear *Bleach *Trash Bag *Scissors *Brush Tulip One Step Spray Dye *Soft Fabric Paint (optional) *Permanent Fabric Tape (optional) FYI: We are working with a BLACK shirt so when you bleach your shirt you might not get PURE white in some spots. It will start off brown then get to a lighter yellowish color. I let my bleach sit for a long time to get some really bright spots.P.S. In the picture below I have fabric paint and fabric tape that I did NOT use in this tutorial. I am sharing it because you can use it to add to the galaxy. I will let you know in the post when! Lay your shirt on top of your trash bag. Twist your shirt in certain spots then add your rubber bands to them. These rubber bands come in the packet of dye! I am using bleach (no water) and starting by pouring a little bit in the center of each knot.P.S. Go slow! Make sure to put on the gloves that come in the packet of tie dye. This bleach will stain anything it lands on so pop on a apron if you need. This is the first shade it will turn. I am kinda digging this brownish orange color! Grab a brush and add a little bleach to it. Carefully flick the bristles and you will see the bleach land on the shirt. Give it about 10 seconds then you will start seeing the color change. It's so relaxing! Do you see how the center is lighter than some other spots? This is because I kept adding a little bleach with my brush over and over. When you are happy with colors take off the rubber bands and this is what your shirt will look like. Grab your spray dye and start spraying onto your shirt. We are spraying mainly on the bleached spots! The bottles have a line on them letting you know how much water to add, pretty simple huh. Make sure to add warm water to the dye. Don't get scared to mix the colors with each other. Layering is KEY in this project! Incase you are wondering my shirt is still wet from the bleach at this point. If you want you can now add some of your colored fabric paint to the shirt. I like to flick it on and create a splatter. Grab your white fabric spray and we will start creating the stars! I swear this is the best part. Warning: You will get mesmerized which could lead to spraying way too much white! (I swear that didn't happen to me) How pretty! Time to let it sit for a few hours and dry. I like to let my shirt lay out and dry but you can put it in a plastic bag for about 5 hours! If you applied fabric paint to your shirt you might want to lay it out to dry instead of placing it in a bag. When it's dry run it under the water until it's clear then throw it in the washing machine without any soap! Let's start making the shirt! Lay your shirt on a flat surface. Cut your shirt from the bottom of one sleeve to the opposite side of shoulder sleeve (like below). Then whatever side your shoulder sleeve is still on, cut the sleeve off. Cut slits on the side that has the shoulder sleeve still connected. These are going to be the ties on the side so you will have to cut the slits depending on how tight or loose you want your shirt. You will cut 4 slits. Mine are about 18 inches long but they will vary. I like my shirt fitted. This is what your shirt should look like. Now, on the side you will cut the shirt so it's not connected anymore along the seam. It will look like an open flap. On the shoulder piece find the center and cut a slit down about 13 inches down. Cut the top part of the shoulder on the seam so we have open flaps. Now it's time to put the shirt and and tie knots where all your flaps are. It's so simple and I love that I can dress up a boring shirt in 10 minutes tops! YAY! I am so pleased with the way it came out. It's fun, vibrant and UNIQUE! The best part is you will never find a shirt like yours anywhere! Huge glittery hugs, JADERBOMB —See you in the next post! Visit me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram!
