With just a few supplies and creativity, you can make a striped fabric spray dye holiday sweatshirt featuring tape-resist snowflakes. Follow this easy tutorial to craft your own! Supplies: · White 100% cotton sweatshirt · Tulip Confetti 7-Color Spray Dye Kit · Plastic table cover to protect your workspace · Painter’s tape · Scissors Step 1: Prepare Fabric & Mix Dyes Prewash and dry sweatshirt. Lay down a plastic cover or tarp to protect your area from any dye spills or overspray. Put on your gloves to keep your hands clean. Add water to dye bottles and shake to mix. Confirm all dye powder has completely dissolved. Make sure your sweatshirt is clean and dry for best results. Apply painter’s tape onto sweatshirt in large snowflake shapes to work as a pattern resist. Place cardboard or plastic between layers of sweatshirt to protect dye from seeping through to back. Step 2: Spray on Dyes Spray on your dyes in your desired design, spraying over tape snowflake designs. Be sure to apply dye generously, but do not oversaturate fabric. Be careful to not overlap colors. Once you are done applying spray dye, remove painter’s tape from fabric spray dye holiday sweatshirt. Cover sweatshirt with plastic and let set 6-8 hours. Step 4: Rinse, wash and dry Using cold water, rinse out all excess dye until water runs clear. Wash and dry separately according to product instructions. Step 4: Reveal! Congratulations! Spray paint each pumpkin with COLORSHOT Place your faux pumpkins a protective surface cover in a well-ventilated area and get ready to spray paint with COLORSHOT! Shake the can of spray paint for at least 1 minute before painting your pumpkins. Hold each pumpkin by its stem and rotate while spraying to get an even coat of paint. Apply 2-3 coats of paint, allowing the paint to dry to the touch between coats. Paint the pumpkin stems with acrylic paint Once the spray painted pumpkins have dried completely, paint the stems with green acrylic paint. This extra step adds a more depth to your pumpkin wreath! Add foliage to the wreath form Heat up your hot glue gun and add foliage to the wreath form, gluing into place as needed. Oh Yay Studio used a black leaf garland for their pumpkin wreath, but you can also use autumn-colored leaves or moss for a more natural fall look. Make Your Own Tie-Dye Family Stockings
Published Date: November 12, 2024 Want Santa to fill your family stockings with lots of good stuff this year? Up your chances with custom tie-dye stockings that’ll catch his eye once he comes down the chimney! Mikyla Creates will show you how to use Tulip Fabric Dyes to make ombre-dyed family stockings with pretty pompoms to go with them. Get inspired to get colorfully creative with your holiday décor this year! Supplies needed - Tulip Fabric Dyes (Hot Water Dyes) – Bright Pink, Gray, Sunshine – or desired colors - White cotton chunky knit stockings - Yarn in desired colors for pompoms - Pompom makers in various sizes - Large bowl for mixing dye - Salt/measuring spoons - Mixing spoon - Scissors - Disposable plastic table cover Instructions Make sure stockings are 100% cotton For best results when dyeing your family stockings, make sure the stockings are made from 100% cotton or another natural-fiber fabric. Mix Fabric Dyes according to instructions Cover your work surface with a protective plastic table cover, then mix your Fabric Dyes (hot water dyes) in a large bowl according to the package instructions. Create custom colors by mixing and testing dyes Mikyla created her own custom peach-pink color by mixing and testing Bright Pink, Gray and Sunshine dyes. To do this, mix in a little bit of each dye powder at a time and test with a paper towel until you get the shade you want. You can also try mixing other colors, or using the shade that comes in your dye packet. Get creative with your family stockings and have fun! Dye the stockings To dye your family stockings, first dampen each stocking and wring out the excess water. You can either dip the stockings directly into the bowl of dye and let them soak in the dye for a bit, or you can spoon the dyes onto the stockings if you want more control over the dye placement. The damper the stocking, the more the dye will permeate and travel through the fabric fibers. For an ombre effect when spooning the dye, add more dye on the bottoms of the stockings and less as you work your way towards the tops. Pompom making supplies Cover the stockings with plastic to keep damp while the dye sets, then follow instructions for laundering and drying. While the dye is processing, you can make colorful pompoms to go with your family stockings! Mikyla used pompom makers of various sizes for hers. Wrap yarn around each side of pompom maker To make the pompoms, wrap yarn around each side of the pompom maker, as many times as you’d like. The more times you wrap the yarn, the fluffier the pompom will be! Cut yarn around perimeter Once each side is full, snap the pompom maker closed and cut the yarn around the perimeter of the device, making sure to cut all strands. Tie a string around pompom Tie a long string around the perimeter of the pompom maker, then remove the device and tighten the string as much as you can, then knot it to hold in place. Leave the long strands of string so you can use them to tie the pompoms to the stocking. Trim pompoms to even out Trim around the pompom to make sure the strings are even on all sides (leaving your long hanger strands). Continue this process to make pompoms of different colors and sizes for all of your family stockings. Attach pompoms to stockings Attach the pompoms to the stockings in clusters and trim excess string. Tie-Dye Family Stockings Once the pompoms are attached, it’s time to hang your tie-dye family stockings. Santa won’t be able to resist stuffing these stockings with lots of goodies! Colorful Christmas Fabric Gift Wrap & Matching Ornaments
Published Date: November 10, 2024 Looking to try something different this holiday season? Up your gift-wrapping game with Tulip! This furoshiki-inspired gift wrap uses fabric that’s been dyed with Tulip One-Step Tie Dye for a totally unique take on Christmas. And bonus: the leftover dye is perfect for making matching ornaments. In this tutorial, we will be using the spiral tie-dye technique with pretty pink shades, but feel free to use your favorite colors and techniques for a more personalized approach. Christmas is about to get even more colorful! Supplies needed Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit in your favorite colors (This project features dye in Wine, Fuchsia, and Orange) Protective Gloves Rubber Bands White cotton fabric, cut large enough to wrap your present Wooden spoon Paper Christmas ornaments Instructions Prepare the dye solution. Before you get started on this project, wash the fabric without fabric softeners. Mix the Wine-colored dye solution in by adding water to the dye bottle up to the fill line. Replace the cap and shake for 1 minute or until the dye is completely dissolved. Pour the Fuchsia-colored dye powder and water into a bowl and stir with a wooden spoon. Dye entire fabric in a large bowl, wringing out the excess dye. Place the fabric into the bowl containing Fuchsia dye. Ensure that the fabric is entirely saturated with dye by moving it around with the spoon. Carefully wring out excess dye and transfer the fabric onto a protected work surface. Twist fabric into a spiral and secure with rubber bands. Pinch the fabric at its center and twist into a swirl. Keep twisting the fabric tightly until the entire piece is formed into a spiral shape. Secure with rubber bands. Apply darker dye onto both sides of the spiral, then wrap in plastic to set. Apply Wine-colored dye onto the spiral, then flip it over and apply dye to the back. Place your project into a plastic bag and let set for 6-8 hours. Once your dye has fully processed, remove the rubber bands and check out your spiral tie dye! Rinse, wash and dry according to the instruction guide. Place your present in the center of the fabric at a 45-degree angle Once you’re done tie dyeing, it’s time to get wrapping! To get started, lay the fabric flat and place your present in the center of the fabric at a 45-degree angle. Fold one corner of the wrap across the gift, then the other. Fold one corner of the wrap across the gift, then the other, tucking the excess underneath if necessary. Pull the other two corners together and tie into a double knot. Pull the remaining two corners of the wrap together and tie into a double knot and add a gift tag for an extra-personalized touch. Your furokishi-inspired wrap is now complete! This reusable fabric gift wrap is a great eco-friendly alternative to paper gift wrap. Try using a variety of techniques and dyes for a colorful Christmas! Dip paper ornaments into dye and allow to dry completely. Don’t ditch that extra dye—use it for custom dip-dyed ornaments! Transfer the remaining dye into small bowls, then dip paper ornaments into the dye. Allow them to dry completely on a wire or plastic rack so that excess dye doesn’t pool. That’s it! Your matching ornaments are now ready for the tree. What other tie-dye techniques will you try for the holiday season? Show us your colorful crafts on social @TulipColorCrafts!

Use gloved hands to work the dyes into the fabric, checking to ensure the dyes have penetrated the folds. Flip your tie-dye maxi dress and apply dye to the backside so that the fabric is fully saturated with dye. Step 4: Wrap in plastic and repeat Wrap the dyed fabric with plastic wrap before you move on to the next color. This will ensure your project stays damp as you work and will minimize colors bleeding into their adjacent sections. For this project, Pretty Life Girls played with color blocking to create bold, maximalist designs on their tie-dye maxi dress! Repeat this process until your maxi dress is full of beautiful tie-dye colors! Step 5: Wrap in plastic let set Once you’re finished applying the dyes to your tie-dye maxi dress, cover the last section of fabric in plastic wrap. Lay your dyed fabric into a spiral and allow to set for 6-8 hours. Want to finish your project faster? Skip ahead to the next step! For a faster take on tie dye, place your tie-dye maxi dress into a Two-Minute Tie-Dye Container! Classic Heart Tie-Dye Technique with Cool Tones If you’re going to make a handmade heart shirt, you’ve got to try the classic heart tie-dye technique with Tulip One-Step Tie Dye! Fold your damp T-shirt vertically in half and use a washable marker to draw a half heart shape with the center aligning along the fold. Tightly pleat your shirt along the marker line so that the line appears as straight as possible when all the pleats are together, then wrap a rubber band tightly around the pleated fabric at this marker line. Wrap another rubber band a few inches below the first, keeping with the pleats. You can stop here or continue adding a few more rubber bands down the length of your shirt, depending on how many dyed sections you want. Each banded section can be a new dye color! This shirt uses cool tones like blue, green, and gray to create a lovely calming vibe. 2. Classic Heart Tie-Dye Technique with Warm Tones If you’ve got a love that’s burning hot, try this classic heart tie-dye technique with warm colors! The hottest fires burn blue, so a bright blue tie-dye heart in the middle makes this shirt look like a burning flame. Warm tones like fuchsia, orange, and yellow One-Step Dyes come together to create a handmade heart shirt that looks like the embodiment of a warm hug! 3. Crumple Heart Tie-Dye Shirt with Cool Colors You’ve probably got the heart technique down by now, but did you know there’s an even easier alternative to this technique? Create your own handmade heart shirt by folding a damp T-shirt vertically in half and use a washable marker to draw a half heart shape with the center aligning along the fold. Tightly pleat your shirt along the marker line so that the line appears as straight as possible when all the pleats are together, then wrap a rubber band tightly around the pleated fabric at this marker line. Here’s where the shortcut comes in: Crumple the remainder of the fabric and apply dye as desired. Wrap, let set, rinse, and reveal your cool heart-shaped tie-dye designs! 4. Crumple Heart Tie-Dye Shirt with Warm Colors The crumple heart tie dye technique looks just as great with warm colors, too! Use pink, orange, and yellow One-Step Dyes to create a handmade heart shirt that’s as sweet as sorbet. Can’t decide on using warm or cool tones? Experiment with our colorful kits and try ALL the color combinations— remember, there’s no wrong way to tie dye! 5. Heart Shirt with Reverse Tie Dye The reverse tie dye technique is a fun way to tie-dye on dark fabrics! This handmade heart shirt uses the Tulip 4-Color Reverse Tie-Dye Kit for bright and bold reverse tie-dye designs. This kit has everything you need to try reverse tie dye— just fold and bind a dark-colored tee for the heart technique, then use the included Color Changer to remove the color from your shirt as desired. Then rinse, wash, and apply dyes to add more color to your creation! 10. Heart Shirt with Salt Resist Dye Here’s a handmade heart shirt that you won’t be able to resist! Earthy Color Block Pillows with Tie Dye
Published Date: January 16, 2023 When the weather outside turns cold and gray, turn to Tulip to bring beautiful nature-inspired colors indoors! This tutorial from Oh Yay Studio will show you how to create color block pillows with Tulip Nature Tie-Dye Refills. Fill your home with down-to-earth vibes with the enchanting earthy colors in this kit! Supplies needed Tulip Nature Tie-Dye Refills 30 Pack Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye bottles White natural fiber fabric or pillow slip cover Fabric for color blocking Sewing machine Wire rack + sheet tray Protective surface cover Rubber bands Scissors Plastic bag Instructions Prepare tie dye solutions Measure your pillows and make sure that you have a correctly sized pre-made pillow cover OR you have enough fabric to tie dye. Wash and dry fabric if needed. Prep your work station with a protective surface cover and wire rack and sheet tray to catch excess dye. Select which nature-inspired earthy colors you want to use, and prepare your tie dye solutions by pouring the dye powder into the bottles and filling to the line with water. Replace the lid and shake well to ensure the dye powder is properly mixed. Fold and bind the fabric as desired Decide which folding and binding techniques you want to use for your color block pillows! Oh Yay Studio used both the crumple and accordion techniques for their colorful tie dye pillows. Secure with rubber bands as needed. Apply dyes to fabric Put on a pair of protective gloves and begin to tie dye your fabric! Be sure to apply dye to both the front and back sides of the fabric. Try to put similar earthy colors next to each other— putting complementary colors next to one another may result in muddied brown shades. Allow project to set for 6-8 hours Once everything is covered in dye, wrap in a plastic or place in a sealed container and allow the fabric to set for 6-8 hours or overnight. Reveal your tie dye designs Once the dye has set, cut the rubber bands, rinse, wash in cool water with a little laundry detergent, dry, and reveal! Take a moment to admire how the earthy colors come through on your tie-dye pillows. Cut fabric for color block pillows Now it’s time to do some color blocking! Iron your tie-dyed fabric if necessary, then cut the dimensions of your fabric to fit nicely over your pillow, leaving a ¼ inch seam allowance on all 4 sides. Cut a total of 3 pieces per pillow – 1 large piece for the front and 2 for the back to create a “back flap.” This allows you to make a pillow cover without a zipper! Sew and display your color block pillows! Sew the fabric together for each pillow case, then put them on your pillows! These color block pillows with nature-inspired tie dye make a great display for any season. How are you using natural earthy colors for your tie-dye creations?
