Make Your Own Tie-Dye Family Stockings

Make Your Own Tie-Dye Family Stockings

Published Date: November 12, 2024 Want Santa to fill your family stockings with lots of good stuff this year? Up your chances with custom tie-dye stockings that’ll catch his eye once he comes down the chimney! Mikyla Creates will show you how to use Tulip Fabric Dyes to make ombre-dyed family stockings with pretty pompoms to go with them. Get inspired to get colorfully creative with your holiday décor this year! Supplies needed - Tulip Fabric Dyes (Hot Water Dyes) – Bright Pink, Gray, Sunshine – or desired colors - White cotton chunky knit stockings - Yarn in desired colors for pompoms - Pompom makers in various sizes - Large bowl for mixing dye - Salt/measuring spoons - Mixing spoon - Scissors - Disposable plastic table cover Instructions Make sure stockings are 100% cotton For best results when dyeing your family stockings, make sure the stockings are made from 100% cotton or another natural-fiber fabric. Mix Fabric Dyes according to instructions Cover your work surface with a protective plastic table cover, then mix your Fabric Dyes (hot water dyes) in a large bowl according to the package instructions. Create custom colors by mixing and testing dyes Mikyla created her own custom peach-pink color by mixing and testing Bright Pink, Gray and Sunshine dyes. To do this, mix in a little bit of each dye powder at a time and test with a paper towel until you get the shade you want. You can also try mixing other colors, or using the shade that comes in your dye packet. Get creative with your family stockings and have fun! Dye the stockings To dye your family stockings, first dampen each stocking and wring out the excess water. You can either dip the stockings directly into the bowl of dye and let them soak in the dye for a bit, or you can spoon the dyes onto the stockings if you want more control over the dye placement. The damper the stocking, the more the dye will permeate and travel through the fabric fibers. For an ombre effect when spooning the dye, add more dye on the bottoms of the stockings and less as you work your way towards the tops. Pompom making supplies Cover the stockings with plastic to keep damp while the dye sets, then follow instructions for laundering and drying. While the dye is processing, you can make colorful pompoms to go with your family stockings! Mikyla used pompom makers of various sizes for hers. Wrap yarn around each side of pompom maker To make the pompoms, wrap yarn around each side of the pompom maker, as many times as you’d like. The more times you wrap the yarn, the fluffier the pompom will be! Cut yarn around perimeter Once each side is full, snap the pompom maker closed and cut the yarn around the perimeter of the device, making sure to cut all strands. Tie a string around pompom Tie a long string around the perimeter of the pompom maker, then remove the device and tighten the string as much as you can, then knot it to hold in place. Leave the long strands of string so you can use them to tie the pompoms to the stocking. Trim pompoms to even out Trim around the pompom to make sure the strings are even on all sides (leaving your long hanger strands). Continue this process to make pompoms of different colors and sizes for all of your family stockings. Attach pompoms to stockings Attach the pompoms to the stockings in clusters and trim excess string. Tie-Dye Family Stockings Once the pompoms are attached, it’s time to hang your tie-dye family stockings. Santa won’t be able to resist stuffing these stockings with lots of goodies! Make your Christmas morning vibrant and memorable with homemade tie-dye pajamas for everyone! This fun and easy project, brought to you by Craft Box Girls, is perfect for creating a new holiday tradition. No need to wait for Santa – with Tulip One-Step Tie Dye, you can craft your festive sleepwear with just a few simple materials. What You'll Need: Tulip One-Step Tie Dye Kit (red and green colors) White 100% cotton pajamas Disposable plastic surface cover Sealable plastic bags Step 1 wash PJs Before diving into the tie-dye process, it's important to wash your pajamas without fabric softener. You can start dyeing right after they're washed, or if you're dyeing later, dampen the pajamas thoroughly and wring out excess water. Step 2 Set up your workspace Spread out the damp pajamas on a covered surface. Now's the time to pick your favorite tie-dye techniques – be it matching patterns for family unity or unique designs for individual flair. Step 3 Create your design: pleating and binding Use the rubber bands from your kit to fold, pleat, or bind your pajamas. For stripes or bullseye patterns, follow the simple steps provided by Craft Box Girls, or feel free to experiment with your own designs! Step 4 Apply dye After mixing your dyes, apply them carefully between the rubber bands. Remember to leave a bit of white space to avoid colors blending into a muddy look, especially with red and green. Step 5 Let dye set Once dyed, place each item in a plastic bag to stay damp. Let them set for 6 to 8 hours, or longer for more intense colors. Then, remove the rubber bands. Step 6 Rinse, wash, and enjoy! Rinse each set under running water, then wash and dry as instructed. If you used the same colors for all, they can be washed together; otherwise, wash separately. Celebrate the holidays in style Now you're all set for a festive and colorful Christmas morning in your homemade tie-dye pajamas! Glamorous Glitter Garlands for a Dazzling Christmas

Glamorous Glitter Garlands for a Dazzling Christmas

Add some shimmer and shine to your Christmas décor when you make these gorgeous glitter garlands! Oh Yay Studio shows us how to use Tulip Dazzling Glitter Dimensional Fabric Paint with felt and Aleene’s Permanent Fabric Glue to create an easy yet impressive garland for the holidays. Whether you’re decorating a tree, a mantel, or a door frame, this décor is great for adding a touch of sparkling color to your Christmas! What you need: - Tulip Dazzling Glitter Dimensional Fabric Paint - Aleene’s Permanent Fabric Glue - ¼ to ½ yard of white felt - Scissors - Paintbrush Cut the felt into 1- 1 1/4” inch strips. Set aside half of the strips— these will remain plain white for this project. Apply glitter paint onto the bottom half of each strip of felt. Use a paintbrush to brush upwards toward the other edge of the felt, creating a gradient. Allow the paint to dry completely and repeat along the backside. Let dry completely again. Overlap a small piece of each strip of felt to make one continuous strip, securing with Aleene’s Permanent Fabric Glue. Repeat this with all the white strips that were set aside. Allow to dry, then roll each into a coil. Lay out each long strip perpendicular to the other, forming the letter “L” to get started. Attach both long strips by putting a dab of fabric glue to keep them secure. Begin creating the twist by overlapping the glitter strip over the top of white strip, then repeat by folding the white strip over the glitter strip. Repeat folding back and forth until you get to the end and secure with a final dab of fabric glue. Allow to dry completely, then trim any excess. Hang it on your tree or mantle and enjoy your glittering garland! Are you adding sparkle to your holiday décor with Tulip Dazzling Glitter Paints? Keep your kiddos crafty this Christmas – and decorate at the same time – with this window clings DIY Christmas craft for kids! Handmade Charlotte will show you how easy it is for kids to make their own clings with nontoxic Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints, a design template and a plastic bag. They can tack their clings up in windows to spread holiday cheer to neighbors, on the fridge, mirrors and other slick surfaces to add some creative magic throughout the house this Christmas. What you need: - Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint – desired paint pack - Cling designs (print from this post) - Clear gallon-sized sealable bag or sheet protector - Toothpick To get started on this fun & easy DIY Christmas craft for kids, print out the design template from this post. Or you can hand draw your own if your kids prefer different designs! Place the design template in a clear gallon-sized bag or a sheet protector. If the kids want to include the smiley faces on each of the designs, first they’ll want to trace the faces using white or their preferred color. Let the paint dry before moving on to the next step. The next part of this DIY Christmas craft for kids is to make the clings! To begin, Handmade Charlotte recommends starting with the outline of the shape, then filling in the design with each chosen paint color. Apply a nice, thick, even layer of Dimensional Paint over each design, covering over the face designs (they’ll show on the other side). Tip: If any air bubbles happen while painting, you can use a toothpick to help smooth them out. If any mess-ups or mishaps occur, the paint can be easily wiped away with a damp paper towel and the kids can begin again! Once everyone has painted over and decorated each cling design, let the clings dry overnight. Check to make sure they’ve completely dried, then carefully peel each away from the surface of the plastic bag. Now it’s time to tack up this DIY Christmas craft for kids and let everyone admire their creative skills! How to Tie Dye Shoes in a Galaxy Pattern

How to Tie Dye Shoes in a Galaxy Pattern

Create the coolest pair of shoes in the universe without having to step out of your front door! Natalie from Doodlecraft shows you how to tie dye shoes in a colorfully fun galaxy pattern using Tulip One-Step Tie Dye. This DIY galaxy shoes tutorial is the easiest way to walk among the stars, so grab your tie dye and get ready to give your kicks a cosmic makeover. What you need: - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice, plus Black (if not included in kit) - Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paint White - White canvas shoes - Stiff paintbrush or old toothbrush - Disposable plastic surface cover - Plastic grocery bags First cover your work surface with a disposable plastic surface cover to protect it from any potential dye spills. Remove the shoelaces and dampen each shoe. Mix your chosen One-Step Tie-Dye colors from your kit (as well as the black dye) according to instructions, then squeeze your dyes directly from the bottles randomly over each shoe. There is no special technique here; just experiment and have fun with it! Once you have added your colors onto each shoe, squeeze random splotches of black dye over the colors, allowing the dyes to blend and move. Place each shoe in a plastic grocery bag to keep damp and allow to process for the recommended time in your kit instructions. After the dye fully sets, rinse your shoes until the water runoff is clear, then wash and dry separately from other laundry. Working on a covered surface, dip your stuff brush or an old toothbrush into your white fabric paint and splatter over each shoe to your liking. Tip: It might be a little messy, but using your finger to help flick the brush bristles creates smaller paint splatters for cool star effects. After your DIY galaxy shoes completely dry, you are ready to re-lace them and launch your style into a cosmically cool new orbit. For the complete tutorial from Doodlecrafts on how to tie dye shoes for this awesome galaxy look, you can check out her post here.
