Comfort Zone: DIY Tie-Dye Loungewear

Comfort Zone: DIY Tie-Dye Loungewear

Published Date: April 17, 2020 Whether you're working or schooling from home or you're not even sure what day it is, chances are, loungewear is your new go-to daily outfit choice. Is anyone even wearing jeans at this point? Pass the sweats and leggings please! Since we're all pretty much laying low right now, we recommend chillin' in style with tie-dye loungewear. Not only is tie dyeing your stuff a fun creative activity (that you really can't mess up if you tried because all tie dye is cool), but you get something awesome to wear afterward. Check out this roundup of comfy tie-dye DIYs that'll have you ready for your next video chat with no extra effort! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - 100% cotton hoodie or sweatshirt in white - 100% cotton leggings or sweats in white - 100% cotton tank top or T-shirt in white Instructions Pastel Stripe Tie-Dye Sweatshirt Right now we're vibing with soft color palettes like pastels and other cool tones. They help put us in a zen state of mind! This simple pastel stripes tie-dye design across a cozy sweatshirt is all about total relaxation. You can keep it simple with just a few stripes like we did, or add stripes to your entire sweatshirt; get creative with it! Pastel Crumple Tie-Dye Sweatshirt Doesn't this hoodie remind you of a softer version of camo? Create this cozy vibe by watering down your dyes to make them extra pastel, then using the crumple tie-dye technique on the entire hoodie (don't forget to flip it over and dye the backside as well). You can use a mix of your favorite dye colors with the crumple technique, or one color if you want to keep it super simple! Another way to get this cool watercolor pastel look is with the ice dye technique; you don't even have to add water to your dyes - just sprinkle them over the ice on your hoodie and let the ice do the work! Ombre Tie-Dye Tank Top A soft tank top is perfect for lounging, especially as the weather starts to warm up! Recreate this simple ombre tie-dye design by mixing up your dye and squeezing it directly from the bottle onto the tank top, applying more dye at the bottom and less as you work up towards the top. Try blending several dye colors for a fun variation, or applying the dye to the top section instead. Tie-Dye Leggings We don't know about you, but we're basically in leggings 24/7 right now, and we're not sorry about it. We're just sorry we don't have MORE LEGGINGS. Treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind set with tie dye! You'll want to make sure your leggings are 100% cotton so you can dye them, then check out our tie-dye leggings tutorial to see how we created this cool inverted V tie-dye pattern. We opted for simple black dye, but you could absolutely recreate this same pattern using multiple colors, or trying a completely different tie-dye technique on your leggings. Ice Dye Pastel Tie-Dye Sweatshirt Remember that ice dye technique we mentioned for the hoodie above? Try combining it with the stripe tie-dye technique for this seriously cool effect! First you'd bind your sweatshirt in vertical stripes (if you're going for this same look), then apply dyes using the ice dye technique. The result is chill loungewear that looks as good as it feels!

Halloween Decor DIY: Boo Sign

Halloween Decor DIY: Boo Sign

If you're like some of us around the COLORSHOT office and still haven't decorated your porch to scare or entice trick-or-treaters in a few weeks (some of us might even have spring & summer decor still up - sigh), don't stress. You can still totally pull together some wickedly awesome last-minute Halloween decor DIYs before the day hits with a little help from COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint in spooky fun colors. This sign for your front door created by our friend @citygirlmeetsfarmboy only requires a few supplies and the result is quite boo-tiful, don't you think? What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint (colors shown here are Designer Sunglasses, Princess Cut, Smoke & Mirrors) - Wood round - Wood Halloween shapes (bats, "boo" or other wording, etc.) - Thick ribbon in Halloween colors - Wood glue (we like Aleene's® Wood Fusion for indoor/outdoor use) - Staple gun - 1/4" tape - Protective plastic First you'll want to spray paint your individual sign pieces before gluing them all together. For the sign base, @citygirlmeetsfarmboy used Princess Cut. Spray several light coats until you are happy with the coverage, letting dry between coats. Once your basecoat is dry, run a few strips of 1/4" tape along the bottom, about 1/4" apart, then cover the remainder of sign with plastic to protect from overspray. Spray several light coats of Smoke & Mirrors over the sections in between tape strips. Spray bats as well with this same color. Remove tape and let dry. For the "boo" wording, spray just a light coat of Designer Sunglasses to create more of a rustic effect. Use your heavy-duty glue to glue the pieces in place on your sign to your liking. Allow the sign to dry flat until the glue has set and is completely dry. Tie a big bow with your ribbon and staple or glue in place. Staple each end of a strand of ribbon to the backside of your sign to create a hanger. Hang your sign and pair with your other Halloween decor DIYs to get your porch ready for some trick-or-treating fun!

Repeat on other broom with Black Tie Affair. Cover handles with protective plastic to protect from overspray, and spray straw portion of brooms with Black Tie Affair. Let dry then tie festive Halloween ribbons around the straw. What trick-or-treater wouldn't want to stop by this porch?! Clearly you have great taste! Ombre Dip Dye Dress Tutorial

Ombre Dip Dye Dress Tutorial

Published Date: May 10, 2019 Looking for something one-of-a-kind to wear for graduation, summer parties or just because you want to sport an outfit as amazing as you are?! Roll out the red carpet and envision yourself in this fab little number you can totally tie dye yourself. Ombre dip dye is one of the easiest forms of tie dye (no folding or binding required) and it always looks like it came straight off of the runway. (No one has to know you did it yourself for super cheap!) All you need is a natural-fiber dress (like cotton, rayon or silk) and a few bottles of your favorite Tulip Tie Dye color. Check out the video to see how easy it is to make your own high-fashion ombre dip-dye dress. Supplies needed - Tulip 1-Color Tie-Dye Kit (3 to 10 bottles depending on your dress and how concentrated you want your dye to be) - Natural-fiber dress (cotton, rayon or silk) - Plastic bin - Plastic surface cover Instructions How to ombre dip dye: 1. First make sure your dress (or whatever garment you are dyeing) has been washed (without fabric softener). You can leave it damp after washing if preferred for easier initial dye absorption. 2. Fill your plastic bin with enough water to submerge your dress for the lightest dye color. 3. Mix your bottles of dye according to instructions and pour one bottle into the bin with water. Stir to mix. 4. With gloved hands, dip entire dress into bin and make sure it's fully submerged. Let set for a while to absorb the dye, then remove and gently squeeze out excess dye. Place on a plastic surface cover while you mix more dye into the bin. 5. Add another bottle or two of dye to the existing dye in plastic bin to make darker. Hold the dress upright and dip the bottom half into the darker dye mixture. Hang the top half of the dress over the side of the bin to keep from falling into the dye and let set for a while to absorb the darker dye color. 6. When the color has absorbed to your liking, remove the dress and repeat the process of adding more dye to the bin to darken. 7. Repeat dipping the bottom of dress into the darker dye, but only dipping a third of the way. Allow to set and absorb the dye until you are happy with it. 8. Repeat dye mixing/dipping process once more, dipping just the bottom portion of the dress into the bin. 9. Once you are happy with the result, you can do one of two things: you can hang the dress (over a plastic covered area to protect from the dye dripping and staining the ground) and allow the dress to set 6 to 8 hours or overnight; or you can carefully lay the dress on a plastic covered surface and cover it with the excess plastic cover, and allow to set 6 to 8 hours or overnight. 10. Wash in cold water on gentle cycle with a small amount of laundry soap and air dry. 11. Your ombre dip-dye dress is ready to impress!

DIY String Halloween Characters

DIY String Halloween Characters

We’ve all seen the traditional jack-o-lantern sitting on the front porch, and over the years they have become more intricate and unique. But we have an idea that you probably haven’t seen before. Instead of setting your jack-o-lantern down on the porch, hang it from the porch ceiling. Not sure what we mean? We’ll show you! Here’s what you’ll need: Aleene's Original Tacky Glue (watered down) Aleene's Felt & Foam Tacky Glue Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Spray Cotton string Black felt Pencil Paintbrush Balloons Scissors Blow up your balloons so they are about 4 inches wide and tie off the ends. Cut the cotton string into long lengths, about 5 feet long. You can always cut more. Cut a piece of string about a foot long and tie to the end of the balloon. You will use this string to hang your balloon so it can dry. Pour glue into a bowl and a small amount of water. Use the paintbrush to apply glue directly onto the balloon. This helps the string adhered so you can wrap it all around the balloon. Wrap the entire balloon with string and use the paint brush to soak the entire wrapped balloon in the glue. Once the balloon resembles a very messy spider web, hang the balloon up to dry. Repeat this process until you have your desired amount of balloons. Place paper towels or craft paper under the balloons as they will drip. Allow to dry. While the balloons are drying create a template of the monster faces you would like to put on your string lights trace them onto the felt. Cut out the pieces. Once all the string balls are dry, pop the balloons and pull them out through a gap in the string. Use desired ColorShot colors to add color to the string. Let dry. Use Aleene's felt and foam glue to add your monster faces to the string lights. You can add small lights to each one or just string them along some ribbon to create a fun garland. This is the perfect way set your house apart from the rest and it's sure to have all of the trick-or- treaters knocking at your door.

Take a spoonful of the glue mixture and pour it evenly over the surface. Let the pumpkins dry overnight. In humid areas, add a fan to help the pumpkins along. You will know they are dry when the glue is clear. Tear away the excess wax paper from behind the yarn. Thread one yard of green yarn through the eye of a needle and insert through the top of the pumpkin. Tie off the green stem and hang your pumpkin with pride! Glow in the Dark Pumpkins

Glow in the Dark Pumpkins

It's almost Halloween and you know what that means!!! TIME FOR PUMPKINS! Not just regular pumpkins, GLOW IN THE DARK PUMPKINS! Every year I look forward to buying tons of plastic pumpkins and creating new designs. I like the artificial pumpkins for the simple fact that they will last forever. You can store them in nice containers and re-use them year after year. How great is that!Tulip has an amazing glow in the dark paint that is the great. This craft is great for kids to do and you will watch the amazement on their face when you put them under or near a black light! Let's get started! Update: Since this glow pumpkin was posted, it's become the most popular post on our blog! YAY! You can also check out some more pumpkins I did HERE! What you need: Tulip Glow in the Dark Paint Plastic Pumpkins (Real ones will work as well but you will eventually have to throw them away, keep that in mind) Step One: Gather all of the Glow in the Dark paints that you want to use...here's a great KIT if you want a lot of colors to play with. I like adding all of the colors and creating a cluster of pumpkins. The more the merrier! Step Two: If you purchased artificial pumpkins I suggest painting them white. This is optional however the glow in the dark paint looks great on white pumpkins even when not under a black light. Step Three: If you purchases pumpkins with long stems you can easily cut it off and paint the tip to make it look more like a normal stem. This is optional. I used acrylic paint for my pumpkins but keep in mind you will have to add 2-3 coats in order to get a full coverage. Step Four: Once your pumpkins are dry you can create all the designs you want on your pumpkins. I wanted to make this batch fun and whimsical so I added dots, stars and spiderwebs with the Tulip Glow Paint! Step Five: To create this spider web effect you simple draw lines from the top of pumpkin stem to the bottom of pumpkins then connect each lines with little frowned smiles (at least that is my best explanation). How cool do these look in the end! It's so amazing seeing how they look when not under a black light then seeing them under that black light! It's night and day. This is also a fun project for the whole family. Everyone can create their own pumpkin then in the end you have a family of them that you can keep forever. Just keep adding to your bunch every year! Another tip is if you have a black light, set it up and apply your paint while under the black light. You can really see the full effect of the colors by doing this. This is optional however! This a great project to express your true personality. If you love polka dots, stripes, squares, x's and o'x or any other design now is the time to bring them out of your head and onto the pumpkins. Another fun tip you can do is paint the stem with Glow in the Dark Paint. It makes a huge difference when under the black light. How beautiful do our paints look under a black light! Great tip to do before getting started is put all the colors you purchased under a black light so you can see the full color effect before you create your pumpkins. The colors change drastically so this is great to do. Putting them to the actual test, under a black light. I am so pleased with how they came out. This Glow in the Dark paint is magnificent! I love how each color lights up differently. I think the green paint is my favorite. To me, it actually shows up the best under a black light. Keep in mind you will not always have the pumpkins under or around a black light so I wanted to show you a picture of what they look like in normal light. I personally think they are just as beautiful. I love adding embellishments to the pumpkins and nothing screams Halloween like spiders. Add a little paint on your spiders and they will add a nice touch to pumpkins. Don't you just love how they came out! You can make necklaces with these spiders, earrings, rings or even a cute banner! I think it's fascinating how different they look with and without the black light! Quick Tip: If you plan on making multiple pumpkins that will all go together, I suggest getting different sizes to put all together. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I can't wait to see what you create for Halloween! Don't forget to tag us with #ilovetocreate on any social media site! Halloween Necklace DIY

Halloween Necklace DIY

Looking for a quick and awesome solution for your Halloween costume? This sparkly Halloween Necklace DIY was made with Tulip Dimensional Paint and it’s super easy to make with major results! Let’s get started! What you need: Tulip Dimensional Paint Rhinestones Freezer paper step 1 Use a necklace you already have or measure your neck to get the correct measurement. Draw a circle on your freezer paper the size of your neck measurement. step 2 Using your dimensional paint draw a line around your circle leaving an opening in the back. You should also add a little extra length so you can overlap it in the back when you’re wearing it. step 3 Fill in your necklace with extra paint. You don’t want to make it too thick or it will take forever to dry, but don’t make it too thin either or you’ll have a problem peeling it off your freezer paper. step 4 Create swirls and the design for your necklace. step 5 Before your necklace dries press your rhinestones into the wet paint. Let your paint dry completely before wearing. Carefully peel it off the freezer paper, make sure that it doesn’t fold over or touch itself or it will stick.

Then lay it out flat on a covered work surface and decide where you want to place the lips stencil. You might just want one design like the on the shirt we made, or to cover your shirt in lips - it's totally up to you! Spray a light coat of spray adhesive on the back of the stencil and press in place on your shirt. Don't forget to insert a piece of cardboard or heavy cardstock inside of your shirt to protect the backside from paint seeping through! Tape paper towels around the stencil to protect the rest of the shirt from potential overspray. Then spray on the first color, working with several light coats of spray rather than one heavy coat. Make sure you are working in a well-ventilated area - open those windows and turn on fans if you are inside! Spray additional colors, blending into the others. When you're finished, remove the paper towels and stencil, and let your project dry completely! Here's lookin' at you kid!
