No-Sew Rainbow Hoodie for Kids
Somewhere over the rainbow ... is another rainbow on a hoodie that's unbelievably adorable and fun to wear in rain or shine! Made with yarn, pompoms and nontoxic Fabric Fusion, there's no sewing required so it's an easy project for the kiddos to get involved in. Our rainbow is featured on a hoodie but you could easily recreate this technique on a T-shirt, tote bag or canvas to make cute wall art! Follow the rainbow this way to creativity ... What you need: - Aleene's Fabric Fusion- Aleene's Stop Fraying- Hoodie – color of choice (or T-shirt, tote bag, etc.)- Thick yarn – rainbow colors- Pompoms – white and blue for clouds and rain- Pencil (optional)- Cardboard or plastic trash bag (for inside of hoodie)- Scissors Make sure your hoodie (or fabric item depending on what you are creating) is clean and dry. Insert a piece of cardboard or a plastic trash bag inside of the hoodie to protect the backside in case any glue seeps through the top layer while you are working. If needed, first use a pencil to lightly draw a rainbow arc on the front of the hoodie. Otherwise, freehand apply a thin line of Fabric Fusion in an arc shape for the top rainbow color. Tip: Less is more when using Fabric Fusion. Applying too much will oversaturate the fabric and cause it to become difficult to glue your yarn to. So make sure to apply a thin line to your hoodie. Measure and cut your first color of yarn to fit glue arc. Press into glue and trim any excess. Continue the process with other yarn colors until your rainbow is complete. Apply Stop Fraying to the ends of yarn strands to keep the yarn from unraveling. Let dry. Use Fabric Fusion to glue white pompoms at each end of the rainbow to create clouds. Glue smaller blue pompoms scattered under clouds like falling raindrops. Let dry completely.

DIY Book Page Pumpkin
It’s almost that time of year again! The cooler weather, changing colors, and pumpkin spice lattes. Oh fall how I love you so. There is no doubt pumpkins are a familiar sight this time of year and today I’m sharing how to bring some fall decor to your home with a few supplies a book and Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue. What you need: Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue Paperback book Craft knife Scissors Pencil Self-healing cutting mat Painter's sponge Craft Paint Twine Tree twigs or cinnamon sticks First thing you’ll have to do is to remove the front and back cover. Sketch out a pumpkin to fit the size of your book when folded this will be your cutting template. You can also just print out a pumpkin and modify the image to fit your book. Fold the pumpkin sketch in half; you’re only going to use one half of the template. Before cutting out the template, make sure the pumpkin half will actually fit within the book you plan to cut. Trim the template accordingly to get the perfect fit for the book. Slide the self-healing mat under 5-6 pages. Place the template on top of the pages trace with a pencil and carefully use the X-Acto knife to cut the pages along the line. Limit the number of pages you cut at one time to about 5-6. If you stack too many pages, the knife may not cut through them cleanly. After cutting the first set, slide the mat under the next stack of pages and repeat until you get to the end of the book. If you want to add some charm to your pumpkin, Fold the book and use a sponge brush to apply several coats of craft paint across the outside of the pages. Allow to dry. Use Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue to connect the two sides of the book together along the spine. You may also want to glue the two end pages together for a better hold. Save

Learn how to create a raincloud and rainbow costume with Aleene’s Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion and get ready for another creative Halloween. What you need: Aleene’s Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion 1 ½ - 3 yards of white fabric Fabric in rainbow colors Blue fabric Iron + ironing board 10” foam disc Headband Polyester fiberfill Ribbon Scissors Paper Pencil Step 1 Step 1 Cut out the clouds and straps To start this Halloween DIY, measure your body and cut out the clouds from fabric. Cut the width of your white fabric in half so that you have 2 long strips, then fold each piece in half width wise. You will use one long folded piece for the front and one for the back. Measure and cut the over-the-shoulder straps and some tie straps for the side of the body. For this kids’ costume, Oh Yay Studio cut 2 of the shoulder straps about 15” and 4 of the side straps about 8” long. Step 2 Step 2 Glue cloud together Glue your Halloween DIY costume together with Aleenes Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion! Begin by running a bead of glue along the outer edge of the cloud. To activate the adhesive, set your iron to high and iron the glued area in circular motions for 30 seconds. Be sure to keep a close eye on your project when ironing to prevent scorching. Flip and repeat on the backside. Pull on the fabric to test the bond and repeat ironing if necessary. Step 3 Step 3 Alternate gluing and stuffing Repeat ironing and gluing as you stuff the cloud with polyester fiberfill. Work from left to right and apply Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion in semi-circles across the fabric to give your Halloween DIY fluffy, cloud-like dimension. Be sure to add the ends of both of your straps along the top of the cloud and the 2 sides straps along the sides. Step 4 Step 4 Repeat and attach clouds Repeat steps 2 and 3 to glue and fill your second cloud. Attach the two clouds together through the top straps. Step 5 Step 5 Cut and prep raindrops Next, make some raindrops for your Halloween DIY costume. Cut varying lengths of ribbon, then cut twice as many raindrop shapes from blue fabric. Apply Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion and ribbon to one raindrop and place another raindrop on top. Iron to secure, then flip and repeat. Step 6 Step 6 Attach raindrops Use Insta-Fuse Fabric Fusion to attach the raindrop strands to the inside of the rainclouds, ironing to secure into place. Attach the raindrops on both the front and back pieces to create a skirt of droplets for your Halloween DIY. This will give the illusion of raindrops falling from your cloud! Step 7 Step 7 Prepare the rainbow template This Halloween DIY wouldn't be complete without a rainbow costume headpiece! Prepare your rainbow by cutting a 10 foam circle in half. Create a template by tracing the half circle onto a piece of paper, then measure and draw 7 concentric arches onto the template. Step 8 Step 8 Cut rainbow colors from fabric Cut a strip of red fabric a 1/4 wider than the foam disc for your rainbow costume headpiece. Use your template to cut out the outer most half circle out of red fabric. Remember to cut two of every color one for the front and one for the back of the rainbow. Then cut off the first arch on the paper template and trace a slightly smaller arch onto the next color. Repeat this process with all the colors of your rainbow! Step 9 Step 9 Assemble the rainbow Once you've cut out all the colors, assemble your rainbow costume headpiece by gluing and ironing as you layer the colors together. Step 11 Step 11 Complete the rainbow This Halloween DIY is almost complete! Add the foam disc to your rainbow and secure into place with more glue and fabric. Glue and iron the rainbow onto your headband to complete the rainbow costume headpiece! Step 12 Step 12 Assemble the raincloud and rainbow costume The best part about this no-sew Halloween DIY is that you dont need to wait for the fabric glue to dry just slip the costume over your head and tie the sides together! Glow in the Dark Halloween Ghost Costume
Published Date: October 11, 2021 Are you looking for a simple yet stunning costume for your kids this Halloween? Look no further! Ghosts are a spooky staple for the season, of course, but surely the classic white bedsheet could use an upgrade. Oh Yay Studio will show us how to create a frightfully fun glowing ghost costume using the Tulip Glow in the Dark Tie-Dye Kit! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Glow in the Dark Tie-Dye Kit - 100% cotton flat kid’s bedsheet - Scissors Instructions Prewash and dry your sheet, then choose your folding technique Before you get started, prewash and dry your bedsheet. Then choose your technique for folding and binding your project. In this example, Oh Yay Studio uses the accordion tie-dye technique. Prepare the tie-dye solutions Prepare the tie-dye solutions according to the package instructions. Add water to each bottle at the indicated “Water Fill” line. Reattach the nozzle with cap on and shake vigorously for a minimum of 1 minute. Remove the nozzle again and add the Glow Mixer to the indicated “Mixer Fill” line. Reattach the nozzle and cap and shake the solution for a minimum of 1 minute. Apply the dye solution to each section of the bedsheet. Apply your desired color of Glow Tie-Dye solution to each section, getting into all of the folds and crevices. Be sure to wear gloves during this step! To help the fabric absorb the dyes, work the solution into the fabric using your hands as you apply it. While applying they dye solution, shake regularly to ensure an even distribution of glow pigment in the dye. For best results, dye should be applied to a dry project. Allow the sheet to air dry for 24 hours, then machine wash and dry. When you’re finished applying the dye, remove the rubber bands and unfold your sheet. Lay the garment horizontally on the lined workspace to air dry for at least 24 hours to allow the dye to set. Flip the garment over halfway through the drying process to ensure that all layers dry thoroughly. Once it has thoroughly dried, machine wash your garment with cold water and a mild detergent on the “delicate” setting and allow to air dry. Measure and cut out eye holes Have your child try on the sheet, and measure approximately where their eyes are lined up on the fabric. It helps to mark the fabric so that you know exactly where to cut. Finally, cut out the two eye holes and your ghoulishly glowing ghost costume is ready! To charge the glow pigments, place the garment outside in the sunlight for 30-60 seconds or use a flashlight to recharge at night as needed. This simple Halloween craft idea from Norx in the Know uses budget-friendly materials to DIY a spooky set of planters for your potted plants. Add a finishing touch with COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint for a scarily chic display you can update with seasonal accents for year-round use. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint – Head in the Clouds shown here - Foam rings – enough for desired size planters - Glass bowl – to fit inside foam rings - Glue gun + glue sticks - Disposable plastic surface cover - Texture spray - Large vases to serve as planter bases - Spiders, flowers or other Halloween accentsHalloween planter supplies For this Halloween craft idea, first decide where you want to create your display so you know what size of planters you’ll need to fit the space. That will help you determine how many foam rings to use, and the size of the vase for your planter base. Apply glue to foam base To attach the rings together, apply a line of glue around the top of one ring. (If you don’t have a hot glue gun, you can use any strong industrial glue that works on foam.) Press foam ring on top of glue Press another foam ring on top of the base ring. Tip from Norx in the Know: there is a seam line on each ring, so make sure to align the seams as you stack each ring on top of the other for a cohesive look. Continue gluing and stacking to desired size Place the glass bowl in the center of the foam rings, then continue applying glue and stacking rings until you’ve created the planter containers to your desired size. Once the glue is dry, it’s time to start painting this fun Halloween craft idea! Spray texture onto foam rings Working in a well-ventilated area, spray texture to your liking on each planter, working your way around all sides. Spray COLORSHOT onto rings Next spray several light coats of spray paint onto the planters and the base pieces, letting dry between coats. Glue foam rings to base After the spray paint dries, glue the base pieces to the base of the glass bowls sitting inside the planters. Let dry. Place potted plant inside planter Don’t forget to insert plants into your new planters! Embellish planters with Halloween items Complete this cool Halloween craft idea by attaching spooky spiders, flowers or other themed decorations to each planter. Color Mixing Painting Technique with Fabric Paint
Here’s a fun piece of art that takes hardly any time to make and will brighten up any room. Steffi Lynn of Have a Nice Day shows you how to create colorful canvas art using her color mixing paint technique that will expand your Tulip Soft Fabric Paint Rainbow Pack from 10 colors to … as many as you can create! What you need: For this painting technique, you can use the Soft Paint Rainbow 10 Pack if you want to start with a great selection of primary colors, or you can even use colors you already have! To experiment with color mixing, you’ll need a smooth surface to use as a palette. Step 2 The best part about this painting technique is you just get to play and experiment with mixing different colors to see what you like! Squeeze a little bit of each paint you want to use onto the palette. Step 3 Using your brush, start mixing colors to create different shades. Don’t like the color you’ve made? No problem, keep mixing, or wipe the palette clean and try some new options. Nothing’s final yet. Pro tip: Don’t just mix 2 colors, try 3 and test different amounts! Step 4 Once you’ve found the colors you like, make sure you’ve mixed enough to lay it evenly on your canvas. With a pencil, mark a dot on your canvas where each color will go. (You can measure if you want exact spacing and alignment between color dots!) Then start painting your different colors you’ve mixed onto the markings in whatever order you like. Step 5 Once the paint is dry, you’ll have a great new piece of art and some new colors you’ll remember how to mix in the future. Wasn’t that an easy color mixing painting technique? Step 4: Place the tumbler on a tumbler spinner and brush a coat of the Tack-It/water mixture onto the tumbler. Let it dry so it forms a tacky texture. Craft Box Girls will show you how to use Tulip Two-Minute Tie Dye to make colorful tie-dye costumes with far-out flair. Supplies needed - Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit + additional One-Step Dyes if desired - White 100% cotton T-shirts, flowy tops to tie dye - Jeans - Lace or colorful fabric - Colorful pompom trims to match tie dye - Scissors - Disposable plastic surface cover - Aleene’s® Fabric Fusion® - Sunglasses, necklaces and other hippie accessories Instructions Tulip Two-Minute Tie Dye Tulip Two-Minute Tie Dye helps speed up the dye set process, which is great if you’re short on time or are making last-minute Halloween costumes! Cover your work surface with a disposable plastic surface cover, and wash all items you plan on tie dyeing for your easy hippie costumes. Leave them damp, or make sure to thoroughly dampen before adding the dyes. Choose tie-dye technique and mix dyes For your easy hippie costumes, you can choose any tie-dye technique you like. Craft Box Girls opted for the bullseye tie-dye technique, the spiral tie-dye technique, and the stripes tie-dye technique. Prep your dyes (no more than 24 hours before using) by adding water according to instructions. Twist T-shirt into a spiral For the spiral tie-dye T-shirt, lay the damp T-shirt out flat on your work surface. Pinch the fabric in the center of the shirt and twist until the entire shirt is swirled. Add dyes and process in microwave Secure the shirt by crisscrossing rubber bands around it, then squeeze your chosen dye colors onto the shirt however you like. Repeat on the back side, then place into the Two-Minute Tie-Dye Container and process according to instructions. NOTE: Make sure the T-shirt is completely damp before processing in the microwave. If any portion has dried out, even a little bit, re-dampen by spritzing with water. Wrap rubber bands around the top every few inches For the stripes tie-dye top, Craft Box Girls wrapped rubber bands around the top every few inches, including the sleeves. Apply dyes to top and process in microwave Apply dyes to the top, alternating colors in between the banded sections. Make sure to rotate the top as you apply the dyes so you get all sides. Once you’ve added the dyes, place in the container and process according to instructions. Pull fabric into a tube shape For the bullseye tie-dye T-shirt, pinch the damp shirt in the center of where you want your bullseye design to be, then pull the entire shirt into a tube shape. Apply dyes and process in microwave Wrap rubber bands around the shirt every few inches, then apply your chosen dye colors. Alternate colors between the banded sections, rotating the shirt as you apply the dyes so you get all sides. Once you’ve added all of your dyes, place into the container and process in the microwave according to instructions. Cut jeans at side seam To give your easy hippie costumes some extra fun flair, turn an old pair of jeans into bell bottoms. It’s so simple! Lay out your jeans on your work surface and cut a slit up the seam on both legs. Glue fabric in place Cut a swatch of fabric to fit in between the cut seams – this will help expand and widen the bottoms of your jean legs. Align your fabric inside of each leg, then add a line of Aleene’s® Fabric Fusion along each edge of the open seam. Press into place on the fabric swatch and let dry completely. Spiral tie-dye T-shirt Now it’s time to coordinate accessories to go with your easy hippie costumes! Bullseye tie-dye T-shirt You can cut leather string to make headbands, turn tassels into necklaces and add some 60s-style sunglasses! Tie-dye strips top Celebrate Halloween with peace, love and tie dye! Easy hippie costumes These easy hippie costumes will make a total statement no matter how you’re celebrating Halloween this year! Freshly Fuji used a protractor and pencil to create a perfectly rounded circle on white foam board, then cut it out with a box cutter. Sand the edges for a smooth finish. Create 8 wedge shapes on circle Use your yard stick and pencil to divide the circle into 8 even wedge sections. Freshly Fuji started by drawing a line down the center of the circle, then using a protractor to make markings at 45°, 90°, and 135° in the center on each side of the main line. Use these marks as a guide to create three straight lines, which will intersect and create your wedge shapes. Cover other wedges and spray paint Cover all wedges on your circle with kraft paper except one. Tape the edges down in place. This will help protect from overspray while painting each wedge a different color. Prep your first COLORSHOT spray paint color according to instructions, then apply several light coats to your wedge, letting dry between coats. When you are happy with the coverage, let dry. Repeat covering and spray painting wedges Remove paper from the next wedge, then cover the wedge you just painted to protect it from overspray. Or you can work in an every-other pattern if you are looking to get your wheel done a little sooner, because it gives the painted wedges more time to dry before covering. Let color wheel dry completely However you decide to apply your spray paints, make sure you work in color order, just like a color wheel! Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step. Glue ribbon to back side of color wheel Once your painted wedges have dried, flip over your color wheel. Measure and cut a strand of ribbon long enough to fit around your neck. Mark the placement for each end of the ribbon on the back of your color wheel, then hot glue one end of the ribbon onto one of the markings. On the other marking, glue one of the hook & loop tape strips onto the marking, and the other onto the ribbon. Let dry and they will be ready to attach together. Color Wheel DIY Couples Halloween Costume Now the color wheel part of your DIY couples Halloween costume is complete! Create 3 equal sections on foam board For the paint chip portion of your DIY couples Halloween costume, first divide the foam board into 3 equal sections using a pencil and yard stick. Cover the bottom two sections with kraft paper and tape along the line of the first section for a clean edge. Spray first spray paint color on top section Spray several light coats of your lightest COLORSHOT spray paint color onto the first (top) section of your paint chip board, letting dry between coats. Once you are happy with the coverage, let dry and remove the tape and paper. Repeat painting each section with the next darker hue Cover over and tape off the top and bottom sections, then spray paint your medium hue onto the middle section. Let dry and repeat for the remaining section with your darkest hue. Create paint names with Chalk Marker Sketch the name of each spray paint color onto the corresponding color in the bottom left corner of the board, then trace over each name with the Marshmallow Chalk Marker. Let dry. Glue ribbon to back of paint chip costume Attach a strand of ribbon for the neck loop to the back of the paint chip costume in the same way as the color wheel. Paint Chip DIY Couples Halloween Costume Your DIY couples Halloween costume has its other half! PS. Does anyone else feel like repainting every room in their house now, or is that just us? DIY Pet Halloween Costumes To get your furry family members in on the fun, here are a few additional pet Halloween costume ideas to go with your DIY couples Halloween costume! Use compass to create circles on foam board For the paint palette costume, use a compass to help draw an inner and outer circle sized to fit around your dog’s neck. Cut out circle and sketch pawprints Cut out the circle and sketch pawprints around it. Paint pawprints with acrylic paints Paint each pawprint design with a different rainbow color using your COLORSHOT Acrylic Paints. Let dry completely. Paint Palette Dog Costume Isn’t this the cutest paint palette you’ve ever seen?! Or as Freshly Fuji calls it, a “Paint Pawlette”! Cut foam board to fit dog and create chalkboard effect For the doodle dog costume, trim the black foam board to fit your dog, then cut a circle out to fit around its head. Sand all of the edges for a smooth finish, then use a piece of chalk to create a chalkboard effect by rubbing the side of it all across the board. Use a rag to wipe some of it away. Glow-in-the-Dark Halloween Candles
Here at Tulip, we absolutely adore Halloween, if for no other reason than because of the wickedly cool DIY Halloween projects we see everyone making! Nothing helps us get in the spooky spirit of All Hallows Eve more than some creepy, crafty fun, like these ghoulish glow-in-the-dark candles from our friend Crystal over at A Pumpkin and a Princess! Follow this link to see how she used Tulip glow paints to turn black candles into an enchanting display that stands out in the dark. What you need: - Tulip®Glow-in-the-Dark Paint - Black candles - Optional: vinyl + cutting machine - Toothpicks Using a cutting machine, like a Silhouette or Cricut, cut Halloween shapes out of vinyl. If you’re great at drawing, you can skip this step and just sketch your design onto candle. The white vinyl does help the paint glow brighter against the dark candle. The paint will have a bright glow either way, but the solid background allows you to use less paint to cover the dark candle. Apply the paint on top of your Halloween shapes. Tip: use a toothpick to spread the paint on smaller designs and intricate cuts. Allow your paint to dry overnight. Use flameless candles so that they can be “lit”

This will give you a better idea of how to cut them to fit the dress. Step 5 Mark each rectangle along the bottom where the dress hem aligns, using your ruler to help guide you. Measure about 4 inches up from the hem and mark each strip of felt along the 4-inch line as well. Step 6 Cut off the ends of your rectangle strips along the tops and bottoms where marked. Step 7 Glue each strip in place on the bottom of the dress using Quick Dry Fabric Fusion. Glue the felt postage stamp on its side parallel to the strips, with the top of the stamp oriented close to the right side of the dress. Step 8 Use your ruler and fabric marker to create 3 horizontal straight lines on the dress underneath the stamp. Step 9 Create a vertical line to the left side of the 3 horizontal lines. Step 10 Write out a cute name and address on the lines underneath the stamp. Step 11 Write out a sweet love note on the other side of the vertical line, like you would do on a postcard. Step 12 Cut a small rectangle and triangle from the white felt, making sure the base edge of the triangle matches the long side of the rectangle. Glue in place to create an envelope with a flap, then glue a small red heart as the envelope seal over the point of the flap. Glue onto a piece of elastic to create a headband. Step 13 And the Love Letter part of your DIY couples costume is now complete! Step 14 The other half of your DIY couples costume is the Mailman! Create and cut out 3 rectangles, as well as 3 triangles with the bottom edges the same length as the rectangles. Glue the triangles to the rectangles to create envelopes with flaps. Step 15 Cut out 3 small red hearts to create seals for the envelopes and glue in place over the points of the flaps. Glue one onto the ball cap, one on the shirt, and the last one onto the messenger bag. Let dry completely. Step 16 Repeat creating a love letter envelope and attaching to elastic if you have a pet you want to include in your DIY couples costume set! How PAWSITIVELY adorable! How to Make a Halloween Wreath the Easy Way
Celebrate Halloween this year with spooktacular décor that’ll have your family screaming with delight! Craft Box Girls show you how to make a Halloween wreath the easy way with colorful fabrics, embroidery hoops and Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints. Get ready to have the most boo-tiful decorations on the block! What you need: - Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints in desired colors - Embroidery hoops - Aleene’s Fabric Fusion - Different fabrics and trims in Halloween colors - Pencil or chalk - Scissors - Chenille stems - Patterns (download from this post) Craft Box Girls will give you three different ideas on how to make a Halloween wreath using fabrics, embroidery hoops and Dimensional Paints. For this first quote art wreath, measure and cut the fabric so it’s slightly larger than the embroidery hoop. Glue trim onto the fabric. Craft Box Girls chose striped fabric for this wreath, and glued the trim along the striped lines. Secure the fabric between the top and bottom rings of the embroidery hoop, pulling the fabric taught as you secure it. Trim excess fabric from around the edges. Glue any fabric still remaining to the underside of the hoop. To transfer the “Double Double Toil and Trouble” pattern onto the fabric, first flip it over and use a pencil to color over the back side of the pattern. Once you’ve covered the back side of the pattern, flip it back over and center it on your fabric. Use your pencil to trace over the letters, applying enough pressure to lightly transfer the wording onto the fabric. Trace over the quote art on the fabric with your desired color of Tulip Dimensional Paint. Add any additional accent designs if desired, then let dry completely. For the BOO wreath, repeat the process of cutting your main fabric slightly larger than the embroidery hoop. Cut two pieces of ribbon that extend past the width of the embroidery hoop. Glue across the center of your fabric, then secure between the top and bottom hoops, making sure the fabric is taught. Cut off excess fabric. Print out the BOO pattern and flip it over so the back side is up. Use a pencil or chalk to color over the back side. Flip the BOO pattern back over and center it over the ribbon. Trace over the lettering, pressing firm enough to transfer the wording onto the ribbon. Use your chosen colors of Dimensional Paint to trace over BOO and the fabric designs as desired. Let dry completely. For the jack-o-lantern wreath, cut and secure your main fabric as noted in the steps above. Then glue trim around the circumference and let dry. Cut desired jack-o-lantern face shape from black felt or fabric, and glue in place centered on the wreath. Trace around facial features with Dimensional Paint and add eye accents as desired. Cut out a stem from felt, and coil chenille stems around your pencil to create curled vines. Glue everything in place at the top of the wreath, then let dry completely. Now that you know how to make a Halloween wreath in the easiest way, will you make just one? All three? Have fun getting festive for Halloween, and don’t forget to tag us on social @tulipcolorcrafts and let us know how you’re crafting with Tulip for Halloween.
Tie-Dye Slip Dress for Summer to Fall Style
Published Date: August 07, 2020 A slip dress is the perfect way to transition from summer to fall style. Wear it alone for an easy breezy look during the day, and with a denim jacket or cozy cardi at night when it gets cooler! Get set for the change in seasons with this easy tie-dye slip dress tutorial from Mikyla Creates. Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Containers - White 100% cotton slip dress - Disposable plastic surface cover Instructions Wash dress before tie dyeing and leave damp Make sure your dress has been washed (without fabric softener) before tie dyeing. You can leave it damp directly from the washing machine, or thoroughly dampen it under the faucet or a bucket of water before starting. Make sure to cover your work surface to protect it before mixing up your dyes! Accordion pleat damp dress lengthwise Lay your damp dress out flat on your covered work surface and fold it in half lengthwise. Accordion pleat lengthwise from the side closest to you, all the way to the other side. Secure pleated dress with rubber bands Once you’ve pleated the entire dress, secure it with rubber bands every few inches along the length. Spritz with water to make sure dress is completely damp If any parts of the dress have dried or feel less damp, spritz with water again to make sure the entire dress is completely damp. This is VERY important for when you microwave it in the Two Minute Tie-Dye Container because you don’t want to risk burning the dress. Mix dyes with water according to instructions Choose which dyes you want to use and mix them up with water according to instructions. Mikyla used two colors for this dress, but you can choose as many as you like! Apply first color of dye along length of folds Apply your first dye color along the folds of one side of the pleated dress, working your way down the entire length of the folds on the dress. Apply next color of dye along length on the other side Rotate the pleated dress and apply your second dye color along the length of the folds on the other side. Another option, if you want horizontal sections of color, apply different dye colors to each section in between the rubber bands instead. It’s your tie-dye experience, so experiment and have fun with it! Microwave in Two Minute Tie-Dye Container Make sure the dress is still completely wet in all sections before placing into the Two Minute Tie-Dye Container. Spray any sections that have dried with extra water, then place the dress into the container and follow instructions for microwaving. Let the dye process, then launder according to instructions. Tie-Dye Slip Dress for Fall Style Now your tie-dye slip dress is ready to add some colorful fall style to your wardrobe! Tulip Tie-Dye Slip Dress Interested in different tie-dye patterns?
