  •        NO SODA ASH NEEDED: Tulip One-Step Dyes already have soda ash in the formulas, so there’s no need to presoak fabrics in soda ash before dyeing. Make sure your fabrics have been prewashed and you’re ready to get straight to tie dyeing! Just add regular tap water to activate dyes. Note: When using dye refill packets, simply open and pour the powders into the bottles, then add water to mix.
  •        WORKS BEST ON NATURAL FABRICS: One-Step Dyes are formulated to be their best and brightest on natural-fiber fabrics. Use with 100% cotton, rayon and silk for best results. Try tie dyeing more than just T-shirts! Tulip One-Step Dyes also work great for tie dyeing sweatsuits, canvas shoes, cotton face masks, socks, bedding and so much more!
  •        MACHINE WASHABLE: Dyes are safe to machine wash – colors stay bright and bold through repeated washings. Note: Dyes will appear darker on damp fabric prior to washing and will naturally lighten after laundering.
How to Use

1. Protect work surface with a plastic tablecloth or trash bags. Cover with a layer of paper towels.
2. Prewash fabric to remove sizing. Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheet.
3. Choose desired technique. If using wet technique, use directly from washer. If using dry technique, first dry fabric in dryer.
4. Wearing rubber gloves, add water to dye bottle, filling to line. Replace cap tightly. Shake until dye is dissolved. Use full-strength for intense colors. For a lighter shade of color, add more water using extra bottle if needed.
5. Apply dye on fabric, checking to make sure dye has penetrated into creases and folds. Do not over-saturate fabric. If dye colors are applied too close together, the colors may become muddy. Check backside of fabric item to make sure dye has penetrated to backside. If not, carefully flip fabric item over and add dye.
6. Cover dyed fabric with plastic wrap to keep damp. Let set 6-8 hours or longer for most intense colors. Fully rinse dyed fabric in warm water until all extra dye is removed and water runs clear - removing rubber bands if used.
7. Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for the fabric and a small amount of laundry soap. Wash and dry separately. 8. Wash separately the first few washes. Do not allow dyed fabric to rest wet on other items.

If no water fill line is present on tie-dye bottle, add water to about a quarter inch from the top of the bottle, allowing enough room to shake and mix the dye.

FAQ & Pro Tips

Note: Do not add water to dye until you are prepared to apply it. Apply dye within 72hours after mixing. Dye left unapplied after 72hours will begin to lose concentration and will result in noticeably weaker color intensity.

Cover work surface with disposable plastic tablecloth or plastic trash bag to prevent dye from staining work surface.

Make sure excess dye dust is removed from work area, as it is invisible until it reacts with water.

Create new colors by blending dyes.

Cover dyed fabric with plastic to keep it from drying out; fabric that dries before dye is finished setting can result in weaker color concentration and less intensity.

Precautionary note: Always wear gloves when working with dyes. Dry dye powder can cause an allergic reaction in some people.

Avoid inhaling dye dust over an extended period of time. Use in well-ventilated area.

Supervise children making tie-dye projects.

If no water fill line is present on tie-dye bottle, add water to about a quarter inch from the top of the bottle, allowing enough room to shake and mix the dye.

Caution: May irritate skin and eyes. Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing. Do not swallow. Wear rubber gloves and safety glasses. Keep out of reach of children. First Aid Treatment: Contains organic dye and sodium bicarbonate. If swallowed, contact a poison control center or doctor immediately. Do not induce vomiting. How To Tie Dye

How To Tie Dye

Supplies: Tulip Tie-Dye Kit of Choice 100% natural fiber fabric item Protective surface cover Sealable bag or plastic wrap Washable marker (option) Step 1: Pick your project For a successful tie-dye project the most important thing is to make sure your item is made from 100% natural fibers like cotton, rayon, or silk. Once you have your item to tie dye, you do not have to presoak it in soda ash because our One-Step Dyes have been specially formulated to stay bright without the use of soda ash. However, you should prewash your fabric before tie dyeing, especially if it's new. Wash fabrics without fabric softener, which can also block dye absorption. You can either leave your item damp or dry it. Dry and minimally damp fabrics will result in sharper tie-dye patterns with less color blending. Damp fabrics allow the dye colors to flow through the fabric for more diffused dye patterns and color blending. Step 2: Prep your dye Tulip One-Step Dye bottles come with the dye powder in the bottles. To mix your dye, remove the nozzle and add tap water to the fill line on each bottle. Replace the nozzle with the cap still on and shake each bottle thoroughly until all dye powder dissolves. For refill packets, after dye bottle has been used, rinse out bottle, open dye packet wearing protective gloves, pour dye into bottle and continue with instructions above to mix and use. Wait to mix your dyes until you are ready to apply them. Dyes left unapplied for more than 24 hours might lose their concentration and might not appear as vibrant after dyeing. Step 3: Bind the fabric Lay your damp T-shirt (or fabric) out flat onto your covered work surface. You can apply as many dye colors as there are sections created with the rubber bands, or as few as one dye color. There's no wrong way to tie dye! However you decide to apply your dyes, flip over your project and match the dyes in the same color pattern on the back. Step 5: Let set Place your dyed project into a sealable plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap to keep it damp while the dye completely processes. This will take 6 to 8 hours or overnight if you want to give it some extra time. Note: It's important for the fabric to remain damp while the dye sets so it can fully absorb into the fabric fibers. Step 6: Rinse and wash Once the dye has fully processed, remove the rubber bands check out your tie dye! Rinse your project well to remove excess dye. Spiral Tie-Dye Technique

Spiral Tie-Dye Technique

Put a twist on tie dye with the spiral tie-dye technique! Whether you use one color or four, you'll love the winding effects! Steps Step 1: Once you have your item to tie dye, you do not have to presoak it in soda ash because Tulip One-Step Dyes already have soda ash in the mix. However, you should prewash your fabric before tie dyeing, especially if it’s new. New fabrics are coated in a chemical called sizing to help keep them wrinkle and stain free, but sizing can block the dye from fully absorbing into the fabric. Wash fabrics without fabric softener, which can also block dye absorption. Leave your T-shirt or fabric item damp for the tie-dye process. Step 2: Lay your damp T-shirt (or fabric) out flat onto your covered word surface. For a perfect center spiral, locate the center of the collar and the section just under the sleeves. This is your center point for your spiral tie dye! Pinch the fabric at this point and twist into a swirl. Keep twisting the fabric tightly until the entire shirt is formed into a spiral shape. Use 3 rubber bands to hold your spiraled shirt in place, crisscrossing the rubber bands to create 6 wedge shapes. Step 3: Wearing the plastic gloves from your kit, place your project on a wire rack if using. You can apply as many dye colors as wedge shapes created with the rubber bands, or as few as one dye color. There’s no wrong way to tie dye! However you decide to apply your dyes, flip over your spiral and match the dyes in the same color pattern on the back. Step 4: Place your dyed project into a sealable plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap to keep it damp while the dye completely processes. This will take 6 to 8 hours or overnight if you want to give it some extra time. Note: It’s important for the fabric to remain damp while the dye sets so it can fully absorb into the fabric fibers. Step 5: Once your dye has fully processed, remove the rubber bands and check out your spiral tie dye! Rinse, wash and dry according to your instruction guide.

Heart Tie-Dye Technique

Heart Tie-Dye Technique

If you LOVE tie dye, then this is the pattern for you! We show you how to add a heart shape to a shirt, tank & more. (And it’s easier than you think!) Steps Step 1: Fold your damp T-shirt vertically in half and smooth out on your work surface. Use a washable marker to draw a half heart shape with the center aligning along the fold. Tightly pleat your shirt along the marker line so that the line appears as straight as possible when all of the pleats are together. Wrap a rubber band tightly around the pleated fabric at this marker line. Wrap another rubber band a few inches below the first, keeping with the pleats. You can stop here or continue adding a few more rubber bands down the length of your shirt, depending on how many dyed sections you want. Each banded section can be a new dye color! Step 2: Wearing the plastic gloves from your kit, place your project on a wire rack if using. You can apply as many dye colors as sections with rubber bands, or as few as one dye color. However you decide to apply your dyes, make sure to rotate your shirt and match the dyes in the same color pattern on the sides and back. Step 3: Place your dyed project into a sealable plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap to keep it damp while the dye completely processes. This will take 6 to 8 hours or overnight if you want to give it some extra time. Step 4: Once your dye has fully processed, remove the rubber bands (carefully cutting them off is the easiest way) and check out your heart tie dye! Rinse, wash and dry according to your instruction guide.
