Container Tie-Dye Technique
What is container tie dye? The container tie-dye technique is an easy tie-dye method that offers a mess-free and convenient approach to creating unique tie-dye designs. It involves using a transparent vessel to contain the dye and fabric, which makes cleanup a cinch! With the container tie-dye technique, you can see how colors interact and flow together to create unique tie-dye patterns. Steps Step 1: Prepare your project Before you get started on your container tie-dye project, prewash the substrate that you’ll be dyeing and leave damp. Prepare your tie-dye solutions by adding water to the dye bottles, filling to the neck. Replace the cap tightly and shake well until dye powder is fully dissolved. Pour one color of dye directly into your container. Step 2: Place shirt in container Scrunch your shirt and place it into the container. It’s important that your substrate is damp for this step so that the dye can flow throughout the project. Your container tie-dye shirt will begin to absorb the dyes from the bottom up! Step 3: Use straw to add dye This step will help disperse the dyes more evenly across your container tie-dye project. Place a straw into your container and pour a second dye color through the straw. Manually move the straw around to ensure the dyes penetrate the folds and crevices of the shirt. Step 4: Apply more dye Apply a third color of dye to your container tie-dye project. The dye on top will be pulled downward throughout the damp shirt— gravity will do the work for you! Step 5: Cover and let set Once you’ve finished applying your dyes, cover your project with plastic wrap (or a lid, if your container comes with one) and allow your container tie-dye to set for 6-8 hours or overnight for more vibrant results. Step 6: Rinse, wash, dry, & reveal! Rinse, wash in cool water with a little laundry detergent, dry, and reveal your container tie-dye tee! This easy tie-dye technique is fun for the whole family— and cleanup is a breeze! Will you be trying this mess-free container tie-dye technique? Make a Tie-Dye Christmas Wreath Pillow
Published Date: November 06, 2022 Cozy up for the holidays with pillows that pop with Christmas cheer – and tie dye! Freshly Fuji shows you how to put a twist on traditional décor with a tie-dye Christmas wreath pillow that’s easy to make and easy to love. Grab your Tulip One-Step Tie Dye and get ready to get festive in total tie-dye style. Instructions Create circle shape and trace on pillow cover Use a compass and a marker to create a larger circle with an inner circle on heavy paper or cardstock. You’ll want the size of your circle to fit most of your pillow cover. Cut out your circle. Fully dampen your pillow cover, then fold in half vertically. Fold your circle form in half and align the center with the fold of the pillow cover. Trace around the outer and inner circles with a washable marker. Pleat and secure pillow cover Starting with the outer circle, tightly pleat the fabric along the marker line, doing your best to keep it so that the line appears straight along the tops of the pleats when all together. Wrap a rubber band from your kit tightly around this line, then repeat pleating and securing the inner circle. Apply dyes Mix up your dyes according to instructions, then apply onto your bound pillow cover. Apply green dye to the middle banded section for the wreath, and desired colors to the inner and outer sections. Seal in plastic and let set Place your dyed pillow cover in a sealable plastic bag or cover with plastic wrap and let set for 6 to 8 hours or longer for the dyes to completely process. After the dye has processed, rinse, remove the rubber bands and wash the pillow cover according to instructions. Glue on bow and pompoms To complete your tie-dye wreath, glue a bow and pompoms (holly berries) onto the wreath shape, and let dry thoroughly before stuffing with a pillow form. Tie-dye Christmas wreath pillow See? Tie dye and Christmas totally go together! Now it’s time to kick your feet up with a cup of hot cider, cozy up to your new tie-dye Christmas pillow, and wait for Santa to come admire your creative skills. How To Tie Dye Throw Pillows
It’s getting to be that time of year again where the weather starts cooling, and comfort and coziness are on our minds. One of the easiest ways to make your favorite spaces instantly more cozy is with throw pillows! Take the tie-dye trend from your loungewear to your lounge spaces with this tie-dye throw pillow tutorial from Mikyla Creates. Mix & match your favorite Tulip Fabric Dyes, then kick up your feet and relax in total tie-dye style. What you need: - Tulip Hot Water Fabric Dyes (desired colors) - Natural fiber pillow covers (100% cotton, rayon, canvas, etc.) - Rubber bands or zip ties - Mixing spoon - Salt - Measuring spoons - Large pots or metal/glass bowls - Sealable plastic bags Before starting your tie-dye pillows project, make sure you’ve washed your pillow covers (without fabric softener) and get that water boiling for mixing up your dye. Follow the instructions on your dye packet to mix your dyes. There are several ways you can prep and use Tulip Fabric Dyes to tie dye your fabrics. Follow the instructions on the packet to use whatever method that works best for you. Mikyla chose to use big metal bowls with boiling water for her tie-dye pillow covers. Before adding your pillow covers to the dye bath, you’ll want to fold and bind them using your favorite tie-dye techniques! Mikyla opted for the folding tie-dye technique, the bullseye technique and an ombre tie-dye technique. Follow along to check out each of these techniques, or prep your pillow covers using any other tie-dye technique you like. For the folding tie-dye technique, lay your pillow cover out flat on your work surface, then accordion fold from one side to the other. You can fold into as wide or narrow of sections as you like. Then accordion fold again from end to end so you end up with a folded square. Dip each side of your folded square into the dye bath, leaving the center without dye. Place in a sealable plastic bag and allow the dye to set for desired amount of time. To create a pastel look, Mikyla rinsed her pillow covers after 20 minutes, but you can allow the dye to set longer (up to 8 hours) for deeper colors. For the bullseye tie-dye technique on your pillow cover, start in the center of your pillow and pull the entire cover into a tube shape. Tightly secure your pillow cover with as many rubber bands as you like. Since this bullseye tie-dye pattern uses two colors, one for the center and one on the outer edges, dip the center portion into the first dye color. You can leave it soaking with the outer edges resting on the outside of the bowl for as long as you would like. The longer the cover sets, the darker the dye will be. Repeat with dipping the bottom part of the cover (outer edges of your pillow cover) into the other color of dye. Allow your tie-dye project to set for up to 8 hours in a plastic bag before rinsing and washing. For the ombre tie-dye look, Mikyla first rolled her pillow cover into a tube, like a sushi roll! Since this pillow cover also used two dye colors, first dip one end as far as you like into one color. Allow it to soak for several minutes up to several hours, depending on how dark you want your dye shade to be. Repeat on the other end of the pillow cover. You can do a half-and-half pattern, or more of one color on one side – have fun with it; it’s your project! Once you’re happy with your tie-dye pillow covers, cut off any rubber bands used, then rinse, wash and dry your covers (separately from other laundry). Once your tie-dye pillow covers are dry, it’s time to place them on your pillow forms! Aren’t they fun? Comfy, colorful and so cute! We’re betting everyone in the fam will love snuggling up with your fab new tie-dye pillows!
