Fabric Paint Faux Embroidery Painting Tutorial
You don’t need to master the art of embroidery to make embroidery-inspired art! Put away the needle and thread and pick up a paintbrush, because in this painting tutorial, Delineate Your Dwelling will show you how to use Tulip Fabric Paints to make colorful art without so much as a stitch. What you need: - Tulip Soft Fabric Paint Pack – Wilderness or pack of choice - Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint - Embroidery hoops – desired size - Embroidery cloth - Scissors - Pencil - Paintbrushes - Paint palette - Optional embellishments: raffia, wood beads, wide popsicle sticks, hot glue This painting tutorial gives you an alternative way to create embroidery-inspired art, without the needle and thread! First decide on your color palette and the designs you’d like to paint. Use a pencil to lightly trace your embroidery hoops on the embroidery cloth so you know the amount of space you are working with for each design. Next sketch your designs within each circle. You can go with similar sun, moon and water motifs like Delineate Your Dwelling, or come up with your own creative designs! Once you’re happy with your sketched designs, it’s time for the next part of this faux embroidery painting tutorial! Paint in the designs with one or two coats of Soft Fabric Paint in your selected colors. Little dots make perfect stars if you’re creating a similar moon and stars motif as shown here! Faux embroidery painting tutorial tip: Don’t forget to create some “dashed” linework within your art to emulate embroidery stitches. Once you’ve painted all of your designs with Soft Fabric Paint, this is the part of the painting tutorial where you really get to create that embroidery look! Use your black Dimensional Fabric Paint to create dashed outlines and/or accents to represent stitches within your painted designs. Let dry completely before trimming the cloth and securing each painting in its embroidery hoop. This is an optional part of our faux embroidery painting tutorial, but it’s definitely fun if you want to keep the creativity going! Delineate Your Dwelling decided to accent her hoop frames with different natural embellishments like raffia, wood beads and popsicle sticks. For the raffia, create bundles about 8” long and secure each in the middle with a knot. Next fold each bundle in half and hot glue around the backside of the hoop. Continue around the entire frame. If you’re working with popsicle sticks to accent your hoop, cut off the ends of each stick to your desired size. As with the raffia, glue each popsicle stick end piece around the backside of the frame. You can also glue wood beads around your hoop frame to work in another natural element with interesting texture! We love how this faux embroidery art turned out, don’t you?! No sewing needed! How to DIY Matching Family Pajamas with Fabric Paint
Get your beauty sleep in pajamas that are a sweet dream come true! Finding matching family PJs can be challenging and pricey, so we’re loving this easy hack using Tulip Soft Fabric Paints from Handmade Charlotte. Learn how to turn a potato into a stamp and how to use fabric paint to make jammies that are your fam’s jam. What you need: - Tulip Soft Fabric Paint Wilderness 5 Pack (or colors of choice) - Matching pajamas or sweats - Potatoes (large & mini sized) - Kitchen knife - Cutting board - Small paintbrush - Scrap cardboard Before you learn how to use fabric paint to make your own matching family pajamas, you’ll want to choose your colors! You can go with a pack of Soft Fabric Paints that already has coordinating colors, or choose your own color palette from individual colors. Also make sure your sweats/PJs are washed and dried (without fabric softener). Use a kitchen knife to cut a large potato in half. On one half, carefully carve out a circle shape and cut back part of the potato surface so that it sits back from the stamping surface about ½ to ¾ of an inch. For this step, if you want an exact circle, you can trace a circular item onto the potato surface, then score it with a toothpick before carving. Use the kitchen knife to carefully carve out a simple smiley face. Tip from Handmade Charlotte: To make the eyes nice and round, use a serrated knife and poke the tip of the knife into the potato, then gently rotate it in a circle. A nice even circle should form! For the mouth, work slowly and draw a curved line, using the knife to cut a narrow channel along it. Note: Make sure to cut both the eyes and mouth deep enough so that you have enough negative space that won’t stamp onto the fabric in one big splotch of paint. For the confetti dot stamps, simply cut mini potatoes in half! If any aren’t perfectly round and you want them to be, you can use your knife to trim around the edges to round them out. Now you’re ready to learn how to use fabric paint to create prints with the potato stamps you just made! Lay your clean PJs/sweats flat on your work surface. If the PJs are thin, you’ll want to insert pieces of cardboard or freezer paper inside to prevent paint from soaking through to the back side. Prep your paint and squeeze some of each color onto a piece of cardboard (or even a paper plate). Dip your smiley face potato stamp into the paint and wiggle it around to make sure you cover the entire surface with paint. You’ll probably end up with a thick coat of paint on the surface, so gently dab some off on the cardboard and use a paintbrush to help remove any extra paint from the eyes and mouth so you get a good impression when you stamp on fabric. Try practicing stamping a few times on your cardboard to get the hang of it. When you’re ready, start stamping the fabric paint onto your PJs. You can apply them randomly, or in whatever pattern you like! Fill in the spaces between the smiley faces with the smaller potato stamps and different colors of fabric paint. You can do any needed touch ups with your paintbrush and fabric paint. When you’re happy with the look, let everything dry flat. Wasn’t that so easy? Why spend a ton on premade PJs when you can make your own cute set for a fraction of the cost?! Now that you know how to use fabric paint and potato stamps to create fun prints on fabric, what else are you thinking of making? Tag us on social @tulipcolorcrafts and share your creations with us!
How to Tape Paint Stripes with Brush-On Fabric Paint
You can hand paint your own evenly spaced and colorful stripes and designs with Tulip Soft Brush-on Paints - we'll show you just how easy it is! Upgrade your items and give your unique touch with this easy tape paint technique. Step 1: First, choose your color palette - this is probably the most challenging part! We went with vibrant Tulip Soft Paint rainbow colors for this rug. Step 2: You really only need a few supplies that you probably already have at home, and if you don't, you can pick them up for super cheap. Tulip Soft Paints work on most fabrics. Step 3: Use painter's tape to mask off your design. To achieve straight lines, using a straight edge like a ruler or yardstick as a guide helps if your design is linear like ours. You could definitely create more geometric designs with your tape or skip the tape altogether and freehand paint your designs! Step 4: Once your design is masked off, it's time to start painting! You can pour your paints into plastic cups for easy access, or a paper plate or paint palette if you have one. Brush on as many coats (letting dry in between) until your desired opacity is achieved. Step 5: Once your designs have dried, remove the tape.
How To Paint Grip Socks with Dimensional Paint
Wondering how to paint grip socks with Dimensional Paint? Check out this easy step-by-step grip socks tutorial using Tulip Dimensional Paint! What you need: - Tulip Dimensional Paint in desired colors - Socks - Cardboard - Scissors Step 1: Cut pieces of cardboard to fit inside the socks you'll be painting. This will help create a smooth, stable painting surface for your Dimensional Paint, and will help prevent paint from soaking through to the other side of the socks. Step 2: Place the cardboard into the socks. Tip: If your socks are new, it helps to pre-wash them (without fabric softener) before painting on the gripping with Dimensional Paint. New fabrics are coated with a product called sizing that can prevent the Dimensional Paint from properly adhering to the sock fabric. Make sure your socks are clean and dry before painting on the gripping. Step 3: Shake bottles of Dimensional Paint and if desired, practice creating designs on scrap paper, paper towels, etc. Squeeze Dimensional Paint directly onto the undersides of socks, creating any designs you like, such as stars, bugs, animals or even words. Once you finish using the Dimensional Paint to create your grip socks, lay flat and let dry completely. Tip: If you aren't comfortable just freehand creating your grip sock designs, you can use a pencil or a chalk pencil to lightly draw your designs onto the sock fabric, then trace over them with the Dimensional Paint. Step 4: Once the grip socks are completely dry, they're ready to keep feet cozy and slip free!
How To Paint Leopard Print with Dimensional Paint
Wondering how to paint leopard print with Dimensional Paint? Check out this easy step-by-step leopard print painting tutorial using Tulip Dimensional Paint! Step 1: You can paint leopard print in any colors you like. For this painting tutorial, we're using the traditional leopard print Dimensional Paint colors of brown and black. Shake bottles of Dimensional Paint and if desired, practice creating designs on scrap paper, paper towels, etc. First, prep your brown Dimensional Paint and squeeze out abstract splotch shapes onto your project surface. The initial shapes should be very natural looking and easy to do. Feel free to experiment with your leopard print pattern and paint splotches in different shapes and sizes. Step 2: While your Dimensional Paint splotches are still wet, it's okay to start applying your accent color of Dimensional Paint (we're using black here). Use your accent color of Dimensional Paint to partially outline the splotch shapes to create the leopard print pattern. Do not trace the entire shape, just a random section of each splotch. Before you know it, you’ll start recognizing the leopard print pattern! Step 3: Now you know how to paint leopard print with Dimensional Paint! Wasn't that easy? Painting leopard print patterns on your clothing, shoes, bags and more is one of the easiest ways to completely change the look.
