How to Glue Ceramics Back Together: Kintsugi Art

How to Glue Ceramics Back Together: Kintsugi Art

It’s happened to all of us – accidentally breaking our favorite ceramic mug or dish. But breaking something doesn’t have to be the end of it when you have a glue like Aleene's Heavy-Duty Adhesive or Aleene's Ultimate Glue! Glue your broken ceramics back together and turn them into beautiful works of art with Japanese Kintsugi – the art of repairing broken pottery using lacquer resin mixed with powdered gold. Mikyla Creates shows you how to glue ceramics back together using this beautiful artistic technique and Aleene’s Glass & Bead Adhesive. What you need: - Aleene's Heavy-Duty Glue - Ceramic item - Hammer - Pillowcase - Gold powder - Paintbrush - Disposable bowl Step 1 If you are breaking an item instead of repairing one youve already broken, place it in a pillowcase and use a hammer to break it. Check the pieces and create additional broken pieces if desired. Step 2 Squeeze some Aleene's Heavy-Duty Adhesive into a disposable bowl and mix in gold powder to your liking. Make sure all added powder is mixed into the glue before applying to your piece. Step 3 Starting with an edge piece, brush the gold adhesive mixture onto the broken sides, adding a good amount of glue. Youll want it to show through the cracks for this technique! Step 4 Press the broken piece together with its matching piece, using some force to make sure theyre secure. Step 5 Repeat brushing on the gold adhesive mixture and gluing the ceramic pieces back together. Once all of the pieces are glued, use a fine-tip brush to brush a coat of the gold adhesive mixture over all cracks. This helps seal them and enhances the look of the golden cracks. Let the glue cure completely before using or displaying your item. Step 6 Now that you know you can use Aleene's Heavy-Duty Adhesive to glue ceramics back together, you can get creative with repairs or giving items some artistic flair with Kintsugi. How to Decoupage a Ceramic Mug

How to Decoupage a Ceramic Mug

If you haven’t tried the art of decoupaging yet, you’re missing out! Decoupage is fun to create with, you can make all kinds of cool projects, and it works on lots of different craft surfaces. Not sure how to decoupage? This easy tutorial from Mikyla Creates will show you how to use Aleene’s Premium Decoupage to turn a ceramic mug into a pretty decoration you can display as is or use as creative storage for other items! What you need: - Aleene’s Premium Decoupage – Gloss - Ceramic mug - Printed design - Paintbrushes - Acrylic paint – desired color(s) - Paper plate or paint paletteStep 1 Ready to learn how to decoupage? (Or maybe you're already a pro and just want to make a cool project.) Let's get started! First make sure your mug is clean and free from prints. Step 2 For this decoupage project well first create speckles on the mug using acrylic paint. Squeeze some paint onto a paper plate or paint palette, then dip the pointed end of your brush handle into the paint and dab onto the mug. Repeat this around the entire mug. Step 3 To create additional speckles in lots of different sizes, dip the bristles of your brush in paint, then flick the bristles to splatter paint onto the mug. Repeat around the mug. Once you're happy with how it looks, let the paint dry completely. Step 4 When you're ready to decoupage the mug with your favorite printed designs, first cut out the designs to your liking. Step 5 Next, using a clean paintbrush, brush a layer of Premium Decoupage onto the back of the printed design. Or you can also brush the decoupage onto the surface of your mug where you'll be placing the design. Step 6 Immediately press the design in place on the mug while the adhesive is still wet. Press and smooth out the paper with your fingers to eliminate any wrinkles or air bubbles. Step 7 Brush another layer of Premium Decoupage over the design and the entire outer surface of the mug to seal it. Let it dry completely. Note: Decoupaged items are for decorative use only, and should not be used to consume food and beverages. Step 8 Look how cute this project turned out! Your new decoupaged mugs will make fun containers for storing items or using as a pretty display somewhere in your home. They'd also make a great personalized gift for friends and family! Step 9 Now that you know how to decoupage (or how to decoupage a decorative mug anyways), what else will you create with Aleene's Premium Decoupage? How to Fix a Broken Mug Handle

How to Fix a Broken Mug Handle

If you’re like us, you always start your morning off with a delicious cup of coffee. But unfortunately, (and it’s happened to all of us) before you could get your caffeine fix this morning, you dropped your coffee mug and the handle broke! Luckily, it’s just a broken handle you won’t have to buy a new mug. Whether this mug is a prized souvenir or a cherished family heirloom, Aleene’s Ultimate Multi-Surface Adhesive makes it such a breeze to fix your broken mug handle. Since the mug is ceramic, the broken edges should already be rough, but if not, lightly sand to create better gripping for the glue. Apply a thin coat of glue to each surfaceWait approximately 2 minutes for the glue to set up before mating surfaces. For a maximum-strength bond, allow 24 hours for cure time. Tomorrow morning your routine will be back to normal with a perfect cup of coffee and a newly fixed mug. Tip: If your mug is beyond repair, break up the pieces and make a mosaic frame to save as a keepsake. Your mug can take on a new life this way! Don't forget, Aleene's Ultimate Multi-Surface Adhesive is also perfect for fixing all broken ceramics you have!
