Easy DIY Graduation Party Favors

Easy DIY Graduation Party Favors

Graduation ceremonies might be different again this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate! Craft Box Girls will show you how to make party favor jars for at-home celebrations that are perfect for grads of any age. Grab your Aleene’s Turbo Tacky Glue and toss your hat to a craft that deserves an “A” for creativity! What you need: - Aleene’s Turbo Tacky Glue - Black cardstock or construction paper- White paper- Yellow yarn - Black buttons- Mason jars- Pen or marker- Ruler- Pencil- ScissorsStep 1 These fun graduation jars are perfect for party guests and even gifts for your grad; it all depends on what you decide to fill the jars with! Step 2 First cut a strip of black paper to fit around the rim of the jar lid and glue in place with Turbo Tacky Glue. Step 3 Next measure and cut a 3.5 x 3.5 square from the black paper. You might need to adjust the size of your square depending on the size of the lid. Step 4 Add some Turbo Tacky Glue to the jar lid and press the black square in place on top. Step 5 Next cut a strip of black paper to fit around your jar. Adjust the width if needed, depending on the jar size. Step 6 Glue the paper strip in place around the jar. If you dont want to glue it directly onto the jar (if you want to reuse the jar), simply add glue to one end of the paper strip and roll it around the jar, pressing the other side of the strip into the glue to secure it. Step 7 To create the graduation cap tassel, start by wrapping the yellow yarn around your hand about 8 to 10 times. Cut the strand connected to your main skein of yarn. Step 8 Thread another strand of yellow yarn through the top of your looped section of yarn and tie a knot in the strand to secure. Step 9 To finish your tassel, cut your looped section of yarn at the bottom to create loose strands. Then wrap another strand of yarn around the strands about below the top and tie a knot to secure. Step 10 Glue the ends of the tassel hanger onto the center of the grad cap on the lid, then add another dot of glue on top and press a button in place to secure. Let dry. Step 11 Cut a 2 x 4 strip of white paper and write a special note to your grad, or to friends and family for party favors thanking them for coming to celebrate this milestone! Step 12 Roll the note from end to end, then glue a strand of yellow yarn to the back of the paper roll. Wrap the ends of the yarn around the paper roll and few times, then tie in a bow to secure. Step 13 Add a dot of Turbo Tacky Glue onto the back of the diploma and press in place onto the front of the jar. Let dry completely. Step 14 Once theyre ready, fill your graduation party jars with treats for guests, or special gifts for your special grad! How to Make Velvet Pumpkins with Tacky Glue for Your Table Decor

How to Make Velvet Pumpkins with Tacky Glue for Your Table Decor

What are you thankful for? We’re thankful that our friends at Beijos Events made these gorgeous velvet pumpkins with Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue! These charming pumpkins are a great addition to any tablescape, so get ready to learn how to make velvet pumpkins for a picture-perfect dinner this Thanksgiving (or Friendsgiving too)! What you need: Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint in Lucky Penny (optional) Velvet fabric in colors of your choice Real or faux pumpkin stems Large needle & thick thread Scissors Bowl Rice Dry polyester packing fiber Step 1 If you choose to paint your pumpkin stems, apply several light coats of COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint until desired coverage is reached. Set aside and allow to dry for at least 10 minutes. Meanwhile, trace your bowl onto velvet fabric to use as a pattern and cut accordingly. Step 2 Thread your needle with thick thread and stitch around the cut edge of the fabric, approximately 1/4" apart. As youre stitching, pull the thread through, creating a gather. Leave extra thread at the end so that you can tie the pumpkin closed later. Step 3 Fill your pumpkin with rice on the bottom. The rice acts as a weight to keep your pumpkin upright! Step 4 Add the polyester packing fiber on top of the rice. Fill the fabric to the brim with the packing fiber and push it around until you get a round, pumpkin-like shape, cinching as needed. Step 5 When youve reached your desired shape, cinch the thread and secure the opening with a knot. Step 6 Glue your pumpkin stems to the center with Aleenes Quick Dry Tacky Glue. Press and hold until the stem is secure, then allow to dry fully for at least 35 minutes. Step 7 Your velvet pumpkins are now complete! Add a personalized nametag to each pumpkin to use them as a place card or use them as an accent piece for your tablescape spread.

Easy Upholstered Bench DIY

Easy Upholstered Bench DIY

Furry benches have been on trend for a while, and for good reason; they are the perfect blend of chic style and soft, cozy vibes! But they can also be expensive, which is why Material Curls came up with the easiest way to DIY upholster your own faux fur bench. No sewing, no complication, and you can customize your bench to fit perfectly with your home and style – all with Aleene’s DIY Craft Fabric & Vinyl Adhesive. What you need: - Aleene’s DIY Craft Fabric & Vinyl Adhesive - Bench (an old one that needs upcycling is perfect) - Faux fur fabric – enough to cover your bench - Foam cushion - Batting - Fabric scissors - Heavy-duty staplerStep 1 If you have an old bench or snagged one at a yard sale or discount store, you are already ahead of the game! You can also easily and affordably make your own using a 2 x 4 and a piece of plywood like Material Curls. Once you upholster it, no one will know you didn’t buy it at a high-end store! Step 2 When you are ready to get started, cut your fabric, foam and batting. The foam should be the exact size of your bench seat, while the fabric and batting should be at least 2 inches longer so you can wrap it underneath. Then add a thin line of Fabric & Vinyl Adhesive around the top edge of your bench, and a few lines in the middle. Tip from Material Curls: less is more! You don’t need a ton of adhesive because it has strong holding power already! Step 3 Press and smooth the foam in place on top of the glue. Step 4 Layer your batting, then the furry fabric on top of the foam on your bench. Step 5 For an easier time securing the layers of fabric, flip your bench over and make sure its centered on the fabric. Add glue around the perimeter of the underside of the seat and press the batting and furry fabric in place. You might need to trim excess fabric to fold and fit around the corners and the legs. Use a few staples on each edge to help hold the fabric taught while the glue dries. Step 6 Once the glue has completely dried, its time to try out your newly upholstered faux fur bench. Add some cute pillows or a throw, then sit down and admire your work! Tag us on social using #aleenesdiy to show us how you upholstered your own bench with Aleenes!

How to Throw a Tie-Dye Party in Your Backyard

How to Throw a Tie-Dye Party in Your Backyard

Published Date: August 17, 2020 We’re all staying close to home these days, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate special occasions or enjoy fun activities outdoors with close friends and family. We’re feeling super inspired by this amazingly bright backyard tie-dye party our friends over at Beijos Events threw for their kids, and we just have to share. So, if you’ve been searching for fun party ideas you can do outdoors, or you’ve been obsessing over tie dye lately (we can’t think of anything better to obsess over) and are wondering how to throw a tie-dye party, get the deets here. Are you ready for the best backyard party ever?! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kits of choice - White 100% cotton T-shirts - Colorful plastic table covers - Sealable plastic bags + permanent marker for labeling - Paper towels - Colorful decorations like balloons, flowers, etc. - Colorful napkins, paper plates and plastic utensils – choose lots of different colors - Colorful snacks of course! Instructions Tie-dye party invitations Are you ready to learn how to throw a tie-dye party that’ll make you the coolest parent/friend/neighbor ever?! First things first: invitations. There are a ton of options online to affordably create party invitations – get creative and add lots of color. It IS a tie-dye party after all! Tie-dye party table setting Now that you have the invites out, let’s set the stage. To throw a tie-dye party, you’ll want to decorate your backyard with lots of COLOR. Don’t be afraid to go full rainbow with it, mixing in lots of different colors with your party decorations. This doesn’t have to be expensive either. You can create a balloon arch as a backdrop (which also serves as a great photo spot for guests), and even use a wild mix of bright flowers as your table centerpieces. Colorful place settings for a backyard tie-dye party Paper plates and cups make cleanup at the end of the party extra easy; you can toss ‘em and move on! And luckily, finding them in a bunch of different colors is also easy and affordable. Have fun mixing & matching a variety of different-colored paper plates and cups into your place settings. And if you’re feeling extra fancy, you can even create cute little name cards for each guest like the Beijos crew. Prep dye bottles before the party starts Now it’s time for the tie dye! Cover all work areas with disposable plastic tablecloths to protect your surfaces while working with the dyes. Make sure to have paper towels handy, as well as sealable plastic bags the kids can store their tie-dye projects in while the dye processes. (Plus, it’s a great way to keep messes contained so they’re not setting their wet dye projects on other surfaces!) To speed things up, you can prep your dye bottles before the party starts, just keep in mind that you’ll want to do it less than 24 hours before the party. Dyes can lose their concentration after 24 hours, so we recommend waiting until just before the party starts. Dampen shirts and bind for desired tie-dye technique When it’s time to tie dye, have the kids (or hey, grownups too – tie dye is for everyone!) dampen their shirts in a bucket of water or under the faucet and wring out. Have them choose the tie-dye technique they want to try from the instruction guides included in your Tulip Tie-Dye Kits. Or you can find even more ideas on our tie-dye techniques page. Put on plastic gloves before dyeing projects Once the T-shirts are scrunched, folded and held secure with rubber bands, it’s time to add the tie dye! Each tie-dye kit comes with protective plastic gloves, so have everyone put on their gloves before working with the dyes. Add dye to projects – experiment and have fun Depending on the tie-dye technique, everyone can choose from one to as many dye colors as they like. They can follow the instruction guide or completely do their own thing. There’s no wrong way to tie dye! The most important thing about a tie-dye party is the experience of having fun being creative. Once everyone has tie dyed their T-shirt, place each shirt in a separate sealable bag and write the person’s name on their bag so they can take it home with them at the end of the tie-dye party. Backyard tie-dye party The fun doesn’t end after the tie dye though! It’s time to toast to a totally awesome backyard party, don’t you think?! Serve colorful treats at your backyard tie-dye party And let’s not forget about the snacks … you’ll want colorful treats to serve everyone to go along with your tie-dye theme. Popsicles offer so many colors and flavor options, and are a refreshing way to stay cool during time outdoors! Cupcakes, cookies and fruits are also great colorful treat options. Use balloons as a colorful tie-dye party photo backdrop You can’t have a tie-dye party without photos! A mix of colorful balloons makes the perfect backdrop for tie-dye party photos. How to throw a tie-dye party in your backyard Now that you know how to throw a tie-dye party in your backyard that everyone will remember, make the most of the warm days we’re still having. Grab your favorite tie-dye kits and your favorite people, and have some outrageously colorful fun!

Easy DIY Tie-Dye Garland

Easy DIY Tie-Dye Garland

Published Date: June 01, 2020 Whether it’s a graduation, birthday, an engagement, or it’s just finally Friday night, there’s always a reason to celebrate! Handmade Charlotte shows us how to put the perfect finishing touch on any festivity or brighten any room with decorative color using this joyful tie-dye garland. Bring in the spirit and fun of the biggest summer bashes, even if the bash is now virtual! There’s no reason not to celebrate life’s little moments, and this adorable and easy project will be there to remind you of all you have to enjoy! Supplies needed Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit of choice 100% cotton white cloth napkins Rotary cutter and a cutting mat, or scissors Double-sided tape Yarn or string A plastic cover to protect your workspace Microwave Oven mitts Disposable plastic surface cover Instructions Swirl and bind damp cloth napkins Prep your workspace by protecting it with a disposable plastic cover. Wash your white cloth napkins (without fabric softener), making sure they are completely damp. For this garland, Handmade Charlotte used the spiral tie-dye technique, but feel free to use any tie-dye technique you’d like! To make the spiral design, lay your damp cloth napkin flat on your work surface. Pinch the center of the cloth between your fingers and twist your wrist in a clockwise motion until you create a spiral. Crisscross two rubber bands in an ‘X’ shape to secure. Add water to dye bottles and shake to mix Mix your dye! Fill your One-Step Dye bottles to the fill line, tighten the lid so it is secure, and shake until the dye is completely dissolved. Do this for all colors you wish to add to your garland. Add dye colors to fabric Put on the gloves provided in the kit and get ready to dye your spiral. Handmade Charlotte uses two colors on each cloth in an alternating pattern for her design, but you can use as many colors as you’d like, such as a different color for each wedge! Think about how you can incorporate your favorite color combos and get to work dyeing the segments of your spiral. Be sure to saturate each segment fully with color, and don’t forget to flip your bound fabric over and add dye to matching sections on the back side. Place dyed fabric into Two-Minute Tie Dye Container Once you’ve added your dye colors, make sure the fabric is still completely damp before placing it into the Two Minute Tie-Dye container. If any portion of the fabric has dried, mist with a spray bottle until saturated again. Close the lid tightly and microwave for the time recommended in the instructions based on your project and microwave wattage. Wearing oven mitts, carefully take the container out of the microwave, and let it cool for 15 minutes with the lid still intact so your dye can finish processing. Open the lid and let the fabric cool for an additional few minutes, until it is cool to the touch. Check out your product instructions for more detailed information! Rinse and launder fabric napkins according to instructions Once the project is cool, carefully cut off the bands to see your design! Rise the cloth under cool water until the water runs clear, then proceed to wash and dry the fabric according to kit instructions. Cut cloth into desired shapes After your fabric is clean and dry, using a rotary cutter and cutting mat or scissors, cut your cloth napkins into smaller squares, rectangles or any shape or design you can think of! Leave one top edge of each piece of fabric with a straight edge so you can attach it to the string in the next step. Attach string to fabric with double-sided tape Lay out your cut shapes in the order you want them for your garland, with the straight edges in line along the top. Keep a small and even space between each cloth. Apply a piece of double-sided tape to the top edge of each cloth and lay one piece of yarn or string along the tape. Fold the top over into the tape to secure the fabric to the string. Repeat process, creating a new strand for each color, or have fun with it and mix and match your tie-dye fabric any way you like! Display your garland just the way you like Hang your garland in front of your favorite video chat background and be prepared to immediately want to celebrate the (virtual) night away! PS. When the fun is done, hang your tie-dye garland in any room for added color that’ll make you smile on the daily.

How To Throw A Tie-Dye Party

How To Throw A Tie-Dye Party

Published Date: June 25, 2019 If you have never thrown a tie-dye party before, we have to ask, what are you waiting for?!?! Unlike other occasions that require a reason - like birthdays and holidays - tie dye is reason enough to celebrate! (Although birthdays, holidays and events like family reunions and summer camps, etc. are also perfect opportunities to tie dye.) The great thing about a tie-dye party is that you don't have to plan any extra over-the-top activities or entertainment because the tie dye IS the entertainment! PLUS, everyone gets to go home with a super cool party favor - a.k.a. a tie-dye T-shirt they'll enjoy every time they wear it. Are you convinced to throw a tie-party yet? Because you should be. And before you come up with any excuses like you are too busy or it's too expensive, follow us this way for easy, affordable tips on how to throw a tie-dye party with Tulip Tie Dye. Supplies needed - Tulip Tie-Dye Party Kits - Tulip 1-Color Tie-Dye Kits - Disposable plastic table covers - Paper towels - White 100% cotton T-shirts - Plastic sealable bags (for storing tie-dye projects) - Marker (to label bags) - Bucket or sink for dampening shirts Instructions Choose your tie-dye kits for your party. First things first ... to throw a tie-dye party, you're going to need some tie dye. It'll help to get a head count of how many people are attending your party so you know how much tie dye to get! Generally, one Tulip Tie-Dye Party Kit has enough dye and supplies for 4 to 6 people, depending on which kit you buy. You can always supplement your party kit with additional 1-Color Kits if needed. As far as T-shirts go, you can either have your guests bring their own, or buy a pack of T-shirts super cheap at your favorite discount store. Or you can buy them here after you're finished reading this post. Whether people are bringing their own or you are providing, make sure the shirts are 100% cotton for best dye absorption. Tip: We recommend pre-washing the shirts before dyeing because they are usually coated in a product called "sizing" that can prevent the dye from fully absorbing into the fabric. PS. Don't use fabric softener because that can affect the dye too! Set up tie-dye stations. If you're a super Type-A organized sort of person, you'll probably love the idea of setting up tie-dye stations for all of your guests. Cover your work surface with a disposable plastic table cover to prevent dye stains - or if you're an artist who loves color or you just have a crappy table you don't care about - leave the table cover off and see what cool dye designs might come of it! You can also prep before your party by pre-mixing all of the dyes and setting them up at the work stations, or allow your guests to mix the dyes when they are getting ready to tie dye. Set out the rubber bands and gloves that come in the kits, as well as extra paper towels to help with any spills or messes. Tie dye on the grass instead of stressing over tie-dye stations. Are you a free spirit and the thought of setting up and organizing tie-dye stations gives you a headache? Don't worry, it's summer! Make everyone go outside and tie dye their projects on the grass. Done and done! Prep shirts for dyeing. Now the fun can really begin! Your Tulip Tie-Dye Kits come with protective plastic gloves for your guests to wear to prevent dye stains on their hands, but some of us at Tulip think it's just as fun and totally part of the tie-dye experience to get your hands as colorful as your tie-dye project. Tulip dyes are nontoxic and if you do get dye stains on your hands, don't worry, the dye will fade every time you wash them and will be completely gone within a short few days. Make sure all T-shirts are damp - either using the sink faucet or a bucket full of water you have ready outside. Make sure to wring out the T-shirts thoroughly before folding and binding. You don't want them too wet because the dye will dilute and run, and your designs might not turn out as crisp! Fold, twist and bind shirts before dyeing. Your Tulip Tie-Dye Kits come with easy-to-follow project instructions for popular tie-dye patterns, so make sure to set them out for guests to read over and pick a tie-dye pattern before beginning. You can also check out our Tie-Dye Techniques section for even more ideas! Fold, twist and bind the damp shirts with the rubber bands that are included in your tie-dye kits. You can also try tie-dye techniques using string or zip ties instead of rubber bands for different effects! Don't forget to take photos. Don't forget your photo ops! Tie dye is so bright, colorful and fun, there will be tons of opportunities to snap in-progress pics of your tie-dye projects to share with your friends. Store tie-dye projects in sealable bags. Once everyone has finished adding tie dye to their T-shirts, you'll want to keep them damp for 6 to 8 hours so the dye can fully process. Sealable plastic bags are perfect for keeping the shirts damp and also containing the dye so it doesn't accidentally drip anywhere and stain your car, clothing or furniture! Have a marker on hand so you can label everyone's bag with their name so projects don't get mixed up when the party is over. Offer colorful food to go with the tie dye theme. You can't have a party without snacks! Try offering colorful foods and drinks to go with your tie-dye party theme. Summertime parties are perfect for snow cones and ice creams with lots of color! Include laundering instructions. If you're feeling extra ambitious before your party, you can type up care instructions for your guests (found in the tie-dye instructions included in your kits) and attach to their plastic bags before they leave. Make sure to let them know not to get too eager and wash their shirts before the 6 to 8 hour period because their projects might not turn out as bright and bold if they don't give the dye enough time to set. Everyone will be excited for tie dye! See how easy it is to throw a tie-dye party? From the tie dye to the food, go big on color and let the tie-dye experience do the rest. Tie-dye activities are fun for all ages and skill levels, and perfect for most kinds of parties, holidays and events like family reunions, camps, team bonding activites and so much more. Your party guests will be jumping for joy when they get their invite to a tie-dye party!
