Halloween Decor DIY: Witch Brooms

Halloween Decor DIY: Witch Brooms

Witch-themed costumes and decor are a Halloween tradition in our minds, and you can either go the super scary route, or the cute "Hocus Pocus" kind of witch route. This year we're vibing with the latter for our Halloween Decor DIYs, so we couldn't pass up these fun witch brooms made by our friend @citygirlmeetsfarmboy using COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints. Read on to see how easy it is to turn ordinary brooms into the perfect Halloween porch decorations with spray paint and ribbons. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (this project features Silver Lining, Black Tie Affair, Orange Slice) - Straw brooms - Painter's tape - Halloween ribbons Make sure your broom handles are clean and free of dust. Spray each with several light coats of Silver Lining, letting dry between coats. Once completely dry, wrap painter's tape in a spiral around each handle from top to bottom. For one of the brooms, spray several light coats of Orange Slice over the tape openings, letting dry between coats. When you are happy with the coverage, remove tape and let dry. Repeat on other broom with Black Tie Affair. Cover handles with protective plastic to protect from overspray, and spray straw portion of brooms with Black Tie Affair. Let dry then tie festive Halloween ribbons around the straw. What trick-or-treater wouldn't want to stop by this porch?! Clearly you have great taste! (In Halloween Decor DIYs but probably in candy too.)

DIY Fall Glitter Pumpkins

DIY Fall Glitter Pumpkins

Fall is the time of year when the days get shorter, the weather gets cooler and the colors shift from vibrant to darker earth tones. But your color palette doesn't have to tone down completely ... you can brighten up your DIY fall decor with glitter! Sparkling gold glitter ... and pumpkins ... the perfect combo for fall in our opinion. And so easy to DIY with Aleene's® Original Tacky Glue® and faux pumpkins you can pick up at the discount store. Read on for this simple tutorial to up your décor game this season! What you need: - Aleene's Original Tacky Glue - Faux pumpkins in assorted sizes - Glitter in desired color and size - Paintbrush - Disposable surface cover Make sure your pumpkins are clean and free of any dust before getting started. Cover your work surface with a protective plastic table cover since you'll be working with glitter and glue, and it can get a bit messy. For a solid coverage glitter pumpkin, squeeze some Tacky Glue onto the pumpkin and use a paintbrush to smooth the glue evenly over the pumpkin, making sure all areas are covered with glue. While glue is still wet, pour glitter over entire pumpkin and shake off excess. Let dry. Tip: shaking off excess glitter over something like a piece of scratch paper makes it easy to gather and pour back into your container. To create a word like "Fall" on your pumpkin, squeeze the glue directly from the bottle onto the pumpkin. Tip: you can first use a pencil to write out your word then tracing with glue if you aren't comfortable winging it. If you do mess up, Tacky Glue wipes away easily with a damp cloth and you can start over. While the glue is still wet, sprinkle glitter over the top until all of the glue is covered. Shake off excess glitter and let dry. You can also add glue to the pumpkin stem and cover with glitter for extra sparkly effects. For an ombré glitter pumpkin, squeeze some Tacky Glue out onto the top half (or bottom if you prefer) of the pumpkin. Use a paintbrush to smooth out the glue evenly, brushing downward toward the center of pumpkin. While the glue is still wet, sprinkle glitter over it, tapping off excess glitter. Let dry completely. So pretty and sparkly! Your DIY fall decor is ready to impress!

DIY String Halloween Characters

DIY String Halloween Characters

We’ve all seen the traditional jack-o-lantern sitting on the front porch, and over the years they have become more intricate and unique. But we have an idea that you probably haven’t seen before. Instead of setting your jack-o-lantern down on the porch, hang it from the porch ceiling. Not sure what we mean? We’ll show you! Here’s what you’ll need: Aleene's Original Tacky Glue (watered down) Aleene's Felt & Foam Tacky Glue Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Spray Cotton string Black felt Pencil Paintbrush Balloons Scissors Blow up your balloons so they are about 4 inches wide and tie off the ends. Cut the cotton string into long lengths, about 5 feet long. You can always cut more. Cut a piece of string about a foot long and tie to the end of the balloon. You will use this string to hang your balloon so it can dry. Pour glue into a bowl and a small amount of water. Use the paintbrush to apply glue directly onto the balloon. This helps the string adhered so you can wrap it all around the balloon. Wrap the entire balloon with string and use the paint brush to soak the entire wrapped balloon in the glue. Once the balloon resembles a very messy spider web, hang the balloon up to dry. Repeat this process until you have your desired amount of balloons. Place paper towels or craft paper under the balloons as they will drip. Allow to dry. While the balloons are drying create a template of the monster faces you would like to put on your string lights trace them onto the felt. Cut out the pieces. Once all the string balls are dry, pop the balloons and pull them out through a gap in the string. Use desired ColorShot colors to add color to the string. Let dry. Use Aleene's felt and foam glue to add your monster faces to the string lights. You can add small lights to each one or just string them along some ribbon to create a fun garland. This is the perfect way set your house apart from the rest and it's sure to have all of the trick-or- treaters knocking at your door.

What you need: -Aleene's Original Tacky Glue 4 fl. oz. - Yarn (oranges for pumpkin + green for the stem) -Wax paper -Tray or cookie sheet -Jar or container with 4 fl. oz of water -Plastic spoon -Needle Pour the entire 4 fl. oz bottle of Tacky Glue into the jar of water. The whole bottle! Let it sit for two minutes. After letting the glue loosen up in the water for a couple of minutes, use the spoon to blend them together. Dip the yarn into glue mixture use the spoon to fish it out. Use your fingers to arrange the yarn into a loose pile on the wax paper. Indent the top slightly to mimic the shape of a pumpkin. Take a spoonful of the glue mixture and pour it evenly over the surface. Let the pumpkins dry overnight. In humid areas, add a fan to help the pumpkins along. You will know they are dry when the glue is clear. Tear away the excess wax paper from behind the yarn. Glow in the Dark Pumpkins

Glow in the Dark Pumpkins

It's almost Halloween and you know what that means!!! TIME FOR PUMPKINS! Not just regular pumpkins, GLOW IN THE DARK PUMPKINS! Every year I look forward to buying tons of plastic pumpkins and creating new designs. I like the artificial pumpkins for the simple fact that they will last forever. You can store them in nice containers and re-use them year after year. How great is that!Tulip has an amazing glow in the dark paint that is the great. This craft is great for kids to do and you will watch the amazement on their face when you put them under or near a black light! Let's get started! Update: Since this glow pumpkin was posted, it's become the most popular post on our blog! YAY! You can also check out some more pumpkins I did HERE! What you need: Tulip Glow in the Dark Paint Plastic Pumpkins (Real ones will work as well but you will eventually have to throw them away, keep that in mind) Step One: Gather all of the Glow in the Dark paints that you want to use...here's a great KIT if you want a lot of colors to play with. I like adding all of the colors and creating a cluster of pumpkins. The more the merrier! Step Two: If you purchased artificial pumpkins I suggest painting them white. This is optional however the glow in the dark paint looks great on white pumpkins even when not under a black light. Step Three: If you purchases pumpkins with long stems you can easily cut it off and paint the tip to make it look more like a normal stem. This is optional. I used acrylic paint for my pumpkins but keep in mind you will have to add 2-3 coats in order to get a full coverage. Step Four: Once your pumpkins are dry you can create all the designs you want on your pumpkins. I wanted to make this batch fun and whimsical so I added dots, stars and spiderwebs with the Tulip Glow Paint! Step Five: To create this spider web effect you simple draw lines from the top of pumpkin stem to the bottom of pumpkins then connect each lines with little frowned smiles (at least that is my best explanation). How cool do these look in the end! It's so amazing seeing how they look when not under a black light then seeing them under that black light! It's night and day. This is also a fun project for the whole family. Everyone can create their own pumpkin then in the end you have a family of them that you can keep forever. Just keep adding to your bunch every year! Another tip is if you have a black light, set it up and apply your paint while under the black light. You can really see the full effect of the colors by doing this. This is optional however! This a great project to express your true personality. If you love polka dots, stripes, squares, x's and o'x or any other design now is the time to bring them out of your head and onto the pumpkins. Another fun tip you can do is paint the stem with Glow in the Dark Paint. It makes a huge difference when under the black light. How beautiful do our paints look under a black light! Great tip to do before getting started is put all the colors you purchased under a black light so you can see the full color effect before you create your pumpkins. The colors change drastically so this is great to do. Putting them to the actual test, under a black light. I am so pleased with how they came out. This Glow in the Dark paint is magnificent! I love how each color lights up differently. I think the green paint is my favorite. To me, it actually shows up the best under a black light. Keep in mind you will not always have the pumpkins under or around a black light so I wanted to show you a picture of what they look like in normal light. I personally think they are just as beautiful. I love adding embellishments to the pumpkins and nothing screams Halloween like spiders. Add a little paint on your spiders and they will add a nice touch to pumpkins. Don't you just love how they came out! You can make necklaces with these spiders, earrings, rings or even a cute banner! I think it's fascinating how different they look with and without the black light! Quick Tip: If you plan on making multiple pumpkins that will all go together, I suggest getting different sizes to put all together. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I can't wait to see what you create for Halloween! Don't forget to tag us with #ilovetocreate on any social media site! Check out all of our glow in the dark projects HERE. Huge glittery hugs, JADERBOMB
