Add a personalized touch to gift cards and learn how to create DIY gift card holders with this tutorial from Oh Yay Studio. This easy teacher appreciation gift idea uses cardstock and Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue to create fun designs that any teacher can enjoy! Supplies needed: Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue Cardstock, assorted colorsScissors or cutting machineMarker and pensRulerGift card Step 1: Cut shapes from cardstock Use scissors or a cutting machine to create the cardstock shapes for your DIY gift card holders. This teacher appreciation gift idea features apple, book, crayon, lined paper, pencil, and star-shaped designs. Most gift cards are approximately 3 ½” x 2 ¼”, so be sure that your shapes are large enough to fit a gift card with space for glue. Step 2: Add details Use a pen and ruler to add details to your DIY gift card holders as desired. The lined paper and book designs will look especially great with this extra level of detail! Step 3: Apply Tacky Glue Use your Tacky Glue with the tip cut for thin application to apply glue to the edges of each shape. Each gift card holder is designed with a pocket to insert the gift card— do not glue the pocket completely shut! Step 4: Assemble Assemble your DIY gift card holders and press the glued edges firmly to secure the paper into place. Step 5: Repeat Continue applying Tacky Glue and assembling your DIY gift card holders to create as many teacher appreciation gifts as you need. Place your DIY gift card holders under a flat, heavy object and allow them to dry completely. Step 6: Personalize and enjoy! Once the glue has dried, use a marker to add a personalized message onto your DIY gift card holders and insert your gift card of choice. Make a First Day of School Sign with COLORSHOT
Even if your kiddos will be learning from home this semester, you can still celebrate their first day back to school! Norx in the Know shows you how easy it is to make the cutest custom sign for photos using COLORSHOT Premium Paint Products. You can make one to document their first day of the school year, then one for their last to compare how much your student has grown and changed throughout the year! What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint in desired background color (Little Black Dress used for this project) - COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints in desired colors - COLORSHOT Premium Paint Markers in desired colors - Picture frame with backing and glass panel - Thin cardboard cut to fit inside frame - Paintbrushes - Stencil (make your own by hand cutting or using a die cutting machine) - Tape - Paper plate or paint paletteCreate stencil using die cutting machine Before creating your first day of school sign, you’re going to need a stencil! If you have a die cutting machine, this will probably be the easiest and fastest way to make your stencil. If not, you can always hand create one on cardstock and use a craft knife to cut out the designs, or simply freehand draw and paint your designs onto the cardboard insert. Spray paint cardboard, then place stencil on top Before applying your stencil designs, spray paint the cardboard piece with whatever color of COLORSHOT Spray Paint you like! Once it’s completely dry, center your stencil over the top (taping in place if needed). Or if you aren’t using a stencil, here’s where you can use a chalk pencil to sketch your design before painting, or jump right in to freehand painting! Use your paintbrushes and COLORSHOT Acrylic Paints to apply your chosen colors of paint to the stencil designs. You can also use COLORSHOT Paint Markers for this step! Let dry and add a second coat if desired, and once completely dry, remove the stencil (if using). Write answers to questions with Paint Markers If you plan on saving this sign as a keepsake, you can write your child’s answers to the questions directly on the cardboard with the design, or you can save the sign for each year and write their answers on the frame glass with an erasable marker. That way you can change it out year after year with new responses! Place sign in the picture frame Now it’s time to capture your superstar student with their custom first day of school sign and photo. The school year will fly by, and before you know it, you’ll be snapping their last day of school photo with a whole new sign, and probably lots of new answers!
