Cool Mom DIY Tie-Dye T-Shirt

Cool Mom DIY Tie-Dye T-Shirt

This craft isn’t just for regular moms— it’s for cool moms! Let the parents at the playground know who’s boss with this DIY tie-dye tee. This tutorial from Norx In The Know will show you how to use Tulip Puff Paint to create a beautifully bold statement shirt. Then use Tulip Mystery Tie-Dye Poppers for an extra burst of colorful fun! You’ll look so stylish in this trendy tie-dye look! What you need: - Tulip Puff Paint - Tulip Mystery Tie-Dye Poppers - White or light-colored shirt - Precision craft knife or cutting machine - Permanent vinyl sheet or paper - Paintbrush - Cardboard Before you get started on this DIY tie-dye tee, you’ll want to paint on your statement. Wash and dry the shirt that you will use, then measure it to see what size you want your stencil to be. Cut out the letters from a sheet of vinyl or paper by using a precision craft knife or cutting machine, leaving the negative space. Transfer the stenciled design to your garment by laying your paper pattern and taping in place, or use transfer tape to transfer your design from your cutting machine. Press it down to make sure it sticks well! Place a piece of cardboard between the two layers of the sweatshirt to prevent the paint from bleeding through. Then choose the colors you want to use and start painting! Apply Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint directly from the bottle and use a paintbrush as needed to fill the stencil. Applying paint directly from the bottle will result in unique textured letters! Gently remove the stencil while the paint is still semi-wet, being careful not to smudge any of the paint. Allow the paint to dry for at least 72 hours before proceeding—you don’t want the paint to bleed and smudge when you tie dye! Now it’s time to tie dye with the Mystery Poppers! Dampen your custom shirt with water, then lay it flat on a protected work surface. The more wet the garment, the more the dye will spread and blend throughout the fabric! Place your desired number of Poppers throughout the shirt, then whack the Poppers with the included mallet and watch the secret dye colors burst! Spritz your project with water after exploding Poppers to increase color blending. Discard the Popper shells and wash and dry according to package instructions. Your DIY tie-dye shirt is now ready to wear! What kind of DIY tie-dye looks will you create? The possibilities are endless with Tulip Mystery Tie-Dye Poppers! Stunning Shibori Tie-Dye Furniture Flip with Tulip

Stunning Shibori Tie-Dye Furniture Flip with Tulip

Published Date: February 09, 2022 Who doesn’t love a gorgeous Shibori tie dye? Those deep blue hues are to dye for! This tutorial from Craft Box Girls will teach you how to add some style to furniture that needs a new look with the Tulip One-Step Shibori Tie-Dye Kit! Instructions Prepare dyes according to package instructions. Before you get started, prewash (and dry, if using the dry technique) the fabric that you will be dyeing. Prepare the dyes according to package instructions. Prepare fabric into the pole wrapping technique This project uses the pole wrapping technique, but you can use whichever folding technique you’d like! For the pole wrapping technique, wrap your fabric around your pole or cardboard tube, then use string to wrap around the fabric. Scrunch the fabric down and tighten the string as you wrap. Continue until all of the fabric is wrapped with string and scrunched together. Apply the dye solution to your fabric Place your fabric onto your sheet pan and wire rack. This will be helpful for catching excess dye! Apply dyes onto your fabric and allow them to fully soak into the fabric. Wrap with plastic and allow dye to set Once you’re satisfied with your dye coverage, cover your fabric with plastic wrap to keep it damp. Allow dye to set for 6-8 hours or longer for more saturated color. Once set, remove plastic wrap and string and wash and dry according to kit instructions. Re-cover your furniture with dyed fabric Now it’s time to re-cover your furniture with your dyed fabric! It is important that you re-cover your piece of furniture in the same way that it was originally put together. For instance, the stool in this project was put together with one seam along the top outer edge, and then one seam along the backside vertically with it stapled underneath the stool. Wrap and glue fabric onto top of stool. Begin with the top portion – cut fabric in a circle around the top and then slowly begin to glue around the top edge (near the original seam) and tightly pull into place working your way around the top. Trim excess fabric as needed. Wrap fabric along the long edge of your furniture. Either iron a straight edge or stitch a straight seam to the long edge of your tie-dyed material. Then with a bead of hot glue, carefully glue this top edge of material to the stool, overlapping the top circle that is already glued into place. Once you reach the starting point, fold over both edges and glue them into place. Wrap fabric to the underside and glue Wrap your fabric to the underside of the stool and glue into place. Pull the fabric taut as you tack down and allow to dry completely. Display your furniture Now your fresh new furniture is ready! Get ready to display your stunning Shibori furniture! Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows

Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows

Published Date: December 04, 2019 Create your own cozy little winter wonderland indoors with a set of shibori tie-dye pillows! The cool blues in snowflake and striped patterns are perfect for adding pretty winter effects to your favorite sitting area. Read on for the tutorial from Handmade Charlotte on how to tie dye your own set of cotton pillow covers using the Tulip 3-Color Shibori Tie-Dye Kit. Supplies needed - Tulip 3-Color Shibori Tie-Dye Kit - 3 White 100% cotton pillow covers - Wire cooling rack - Scissors - Needle and upholstery thread - Pencil - Ruler - Spray bottle - Disposable plastic table cover Instructions Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Prep your work surface by covering with a disposable plastic table cover. Mix your dyes according to the kit instructions and pre-wash your pillow covers (without fabric softener). Go ahead and leave the pillow covers damp after washing since you'll want them damp for tie dyeing. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows TRIANGLE FOLDING TECHNIQUEFold one of the damp pillow covers accordion style into four even sections. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Start on one end of the pleated cover and fold over the corner to form a triangle, aligning edges. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Continue folding accordion style again with the triangle shapes until you have folded the entire cover. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Apply dye to the folded cover. Handmade Charlotte applied indigo along the long edge of the triangle and added a pop of gray dye to the triangle point. Feel free to experiment with yours! Make sure to apply dye onto all of the folded sides. Placing on a wire rack afterward will help prevent the cover from sitting in a pool of dye and dye spreading onto places you don't want it. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows RECTANGLE FOLDING TECHNIQUEFold one of the other damp covers into fourths accordion style. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Fold it accordion style again into squares. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Bind your folded cover with rubber bands. Handmade Charlotte created six sections but you can add as few or as many as you want. There really isn't a wrong way to do it! Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Place the bound cover on a wire rack if you have one, and apply dye according to your liking. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows STITCH RESIST SNOWFLAKE TECHNIQUEFor this technique, you'll want to dry your pillow cover (do not use a dryer sheet). Use a pencil and ruler to draw a simple snowflake shape with three lines as shown onto the center of the cover. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Thread a long strand of embroidery thread through a needle. Create a fold along one of the pencil lines and stich along the fold, just under the ridge of the fold. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Stop once you reach the middle, making sure to leave about 3" of thread at each end of the line. Repeat process for all snowflake lines. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Gather the strands of thread in the center and tie them together in a knot to secure. Hold one of the strands of thread and use other hand to tightly scrunch the fabric along the strand. Tie a double or triple knot at the end to hold the fabric in place. Repeat for each strand. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Fill your spray bottle with water and mist over the entire pillow cover to dampen. Apply dye as desired onto the cover. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows Let all covers set for the recommended time, then launder according to kit instructions. Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows How fantastic is this triangle pattern pillow?! It looks just like falling snowflakes! Tulip Winter Shibori Tie-Dye Pillows The striped and large snowflake pillows are just as fab! Who wouldn't want to cozy up to these wintery little wonders?!

Tie-Dye Food T-shirt Roundup

Tie-Dye Food T-shirt Roundup

Published Date: September 20, 2019 We love food. (Who doesn't?!) It's a close contender to our obsession for tie dye, so we started thinking about how we could combine our two great loves: food and tie dye - and then magic happened. Here's a roundup of some of our favorite tie-dye food T-shirts that consequently also make us hungry. But hey, is there anything more fun than snacking on a slice of pizza while wearing a tie-dye pizza shirt? No, there isn't. (Plus no one will notice if you accidentally drop a slice of pepperoni on yourself.) Read on to get inspired to make your own tie-dye food T-shirts! Supplies needed - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Party Kit - White 100% cotton T-shirts - Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint Pack - Tulip Fabric Markers - Freezer paper/iron - Washable marker - Zip ties (optional) Instructions Tulip Taco Tie-Dye T-shirt To make a taco tie-dye T-shirt, first mix up your tie dye with water, following kit instructions. We used yellow for the taco shell, green for the lettuce and pink for the rest of the shirt, but have fun with your color palette and mix it up if you'd like! First you'll want to create your taco shape, so lay your damp shirt out flat on your covered work surface and use a washable marker to literally sketch out a taco shape on the front of your shirt. Then starting on one side, pleat the shirt fabric along the bottom of the taco shape until you get to the other side, then tighly bind with a rubber band or zip tie. Repeat pleating along the top part of taco, making sure to line up the marker line as much as possible as you pleat. Bind this portion as well. Add yellow dye to the middle section and a bit of green to the top part just above the yellow, then add the remaining dye color to the rest of the shirt. Let set and launder according to instructions, then once dry, use a Fabric Marker to draw in details if desired. All you need now is a side of extra guacamole to go with that taco tie-dye T-shirt! Tulip Donut Tie-Dye T-shirt What's sweeter than a donut? Well, not much actually, but a donut tie-dye T-shirt is pretty sweet. And the best part about it is that it's actually super easy to create this donut tie-dye effect! Check out the tutorial here. We used fuchsia tie dye for our donut but get creative and go with any frosting color you like. After the tie-dye part is done, use Dimensional Fabric Paint in a variety of colors to accent your tie-dye donut with sprinkles. Is anyone else craving dessert now? Tulip Pizza Tie-Dye T-shirt Any way you slice it, a pizza tie-dye T-shirt is awesome. (See what we did there?) And making one is easier than you think! Using a washable marker, draw a large V shape extending from the top of shirt to the middle or so. Starting at one of the shoulders, begin pleating the T-shirt fabric along the marker line, doing your best to align the fabric so the line appears straight across the tops of the pleats. Pleat all the way to the other shoulder and tightly bind with a zip tie or rubber band. Mix yellow and red dyes, then add yellow to the pizza portion and red (or any color you like) to the rest, adding small touches of red to the yellow portion for melty cheese effects. (Mmmmm ... melty cheese.) Let the dye set and launder according to package instructions. Once dry, use Fabric Markers to draw pepperoni or other pizza toppings on pizza portion of shirt. Now you're ready to wear a slice and probably have a slice (or 6)! Tulip Candy Corn Tie-Dye T-shirt And since Halloween is just around the corner, we can't finish this post without talking about everyone's favorite Halloween candy: candy corn! Perfect to wear for Halloween or just because, this candy corn tie-dye T-shirt is probably the easiest to make out of the tie-dye food T-shirts featured in this post. All you need is yellow and orange dyes and a big paintbrush for blending! Get the candy corn tie-dye tutorial here, then get ready to make your Halloween a real treat. (Okay, we're done with the puns now. Mostly because we need to go eat.)

5 Easy Shibori Tie Dye DIYs

5 Easy Shibori Tie Dye DIYs

Published Date: April 30, 2019 The popularity of shibori tie dye has been on the rise the last few years, but this indigo tie-dye fashion trend has actually been around since about the 8th century (that's a lonnnnnnng time ago) and originated in Japan. Here in the 21st century, we're still loving this tie-dye technique and are digging how people are working it into their everyday fashion. Shibori is traditionally a resist-dye technique using indigo dye and can be used to create a variety of beautiful patterns on fabric. We rounded up 5 easy shibori tie-dye fashions you can do yourself using blue dyes in the Tulip Shibori Tie-Dye Kits, but as always, have fun with your tie dye! Try changing up your colors, or using multiple dye colors ... there really is no wrong way to tie dye. Read on to get inspired. Supplies needed - Tulip Shibori Tie-Dye Kit - 3 color or 5 color - Cotton, silk or rayon fabric item to tie dye - PVC pipe or tube for rolling fabric (if using the poll-wrap technique) Instructions Shibori Tie-Dye Dress Whether you're taking a walk in the park on a beautiful day, brunching with friends or putting in some serious work at the office, you'll look chic every minute of your day in a shibori tie-dye dress! Paired with heels or sandals, a jean jacket or a blazer, this dress will take you from day to night without skipping a beat. Even better, it's super easy to make; snag a white dress online or at the store, grab a PVC pipe and get the simple tutorial here. Shibori Tie-Dye Men's T-shirt Guys can rock shibori too! What we love about shibori is that you can really play with your resist patterns to create new and interesting effects like this T-shirt made with lots of zip ties. Make sure your shirt is 100% cotton, then use the vertical stripe tie-dye technique, adding lots of zip ties on the top half of the shirt and just a few on the bottom half. The result: a look so hot you'll need to run out and grab a snow cone to cool down. Shibori Tie-Dye Skirt A variation on the vertical stripe tie-dye technique shown above, this shibori tie-dye skirt uses string instead of rubber bands or zip ties. To achieve this look: tightly bind the top of skirt with lots of strands of string and little spacing in between. Indigo blue looks amazing, but you can definitely experiment with other colors or multiple colors depending on the look you are going for. How can you not want to twirl around after creating something so fab?! Shibori Bullseye Tie-Dye Shirt We might be biased, but we think lattes taste better when you're wearing tie dye. Everything is better when you're wearing tie dye! This shibori T-shirt is so easy to make using the bullseye tie-dye technique and lots of zip ties. Start on the side of your T-shirt instead of the center and work your way out, binding until you reach the other side of the shirt. Then add dye for a shibori T-shirt we know you'll like "a latte." (Sorry, we couldn't RESIST the pun - or the play on "resist"! Okay we'll stop.) Shibori Tie-Dye Top A lot of people ask if they can tie dye fabrics that aren't 100% cotton. Here is an example of a polyester/cotton blend top we dyed in shibori style. The result is more of a downplayed, faded look instead of super bold, which we think can be super fab on the right garments and depending on the vibe you are going for (think downtown cool). Just make sure your fabric does have a majority of cotton in the blend because 100% polyester won't absorb the dye. To get this look, use strands of string to bind the top half of your shirt using the stripe tie-dye technique, pleating the fabric along the curve of the neckline. Then add dye to only the bound portion of the top. And afterward? The world is your runway in this casual, cool shibori tie-dye look!
