Use a spray bottle filled with water to diffuse and blend the colors where they meet. Alternatively, after applying dye to each section, remove the rubber bands, lay the dress flat, and use a paintbrush and water to blend the colors in each section. Step 3 Allow the dye to set and wash it Place your ombré tie-dye dress in a sealed bag or cover it with plastic to keep it damp while the dye sets for 6 to 8 hours, or overnight for more intense colors. Once the dye has set, remove the rubber bands and launder the dress according to package instructions. Your vibrant summer fashion staple is now ready to wear! Step 4 Wear your dress! DIY Watercolor Ombré Dye Puffer Jacket
Tie dye isn’t just for summer! Add a pop of color to your winter wardrobe with ombré dye. This tutorial from Oh Yay Studio will show you how to customize a winter coat with watercolor ombré effects using Tulip Tie Dye. The Tulip Color Wheel One-Step Tie-Dye Refills are perfect for this craft— you’ll have plenty of colors to choose from so that you can really personalize your project! What you need: Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Refills Color Wheel 30 Pack Puffer jacket or other winter coat (NOTE: Dye is most vibrant on 100% cotton, rayon, and silk) Large tub and wire rack Empty Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Bottles Plastic gloves Plastic wrap or plastic bag Protective surface cover Step 1: Prepare your tie-dye work station. Pick out which colors of dye you want to use from the Tulip Color Wheel One-Step Tie-Dye Refills and pour the dye powder into empty tie-dye bottles. Fill with water and shake vigorously to make your tie-dye solutions! Step 2: Prewash your winter coat and leave damp, then place it in a large tub with a wire rack at the bottom to catch excess dye. We won’t be binding and folding this project; instead, we’ll manually apply the color for an ombré dye effect! NOTE: For this project, Oh Yay Studio used a nylon puffer jacket. Although nylon is a synthetic fabric, they found it was able to retain dye well enough to create this project! Remember, Tulip One-Step Tie-Dyes are most vibrant on natural fiber fabrics, such as 100% cotton, rayon, and silk. Step 3: Slowly apply the dyes to your jacket. The key to creating smooth ombré dye effects is to reference the color wheel! Dye colors should be applied next to similar colors (blues next to purples and greens, oranges near yellows and reds, etc.) to avoid muddying and turning brown. Use gloved hands to work the dye into the fabric as you go. Step 4: Once you’re done dyeing your jacket, either cover the tub with plastic wrap or gently transfer the jacket into a large plastic bag— just make sure your jacket isn’t sitting in excess dye. Allow to sit 6-8 hours, then rinse, wash in cool water with a little laundry detergent, and dry. Your ombré dye puffer jacket is now ready for your cold weather adventures! Glow-in-the-Dark Galaxy Painted Pumpkins
This Halloween, forget the ooey-gooey mess of carving pumpkins and start a new tradition with Tulip Fabric Paints! Craft Box Girls will help you launch your creativity into orbit by painting galaxy pumpkins glowing with galactic flair. What you need: - Tulip Glow in the Dark Puff Paints 6 Pack - Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paints - Faux pumpkins - Paintbrushes, sponges and/or sponge brushes - Paper plates This pumpkin painting activity is one the whole fam will enjoy! The most difficult part is picking which paint colors to use (because we have a lot to choose from). Everyone can opt for darker colors or get extra colorful with their space-themed palette, depending on the designs they want to create. Before getting started, make sure each pumpkin has been wiped clean and any stickers removed. For both the constellation and moon glow pumpkins, you’ll want to start with a basecoat of black paint. You can either brush it on or sponge it, and after it dries, randomly sponge on other paint colors you’d like for your galaxy. Tip: Don’t worry about cleaning your sponge in between different paint color applications; sponging them together will create cool color blending effects! For the constellation pumpkin, sponging on some white paint over the darker colors will create the illusion of stars speckled throughout your sky. Next use Puff Paint in Natural Glow to create constellations and stars. (Not sure which constellations to choose? You can find easy designs by searching online!) For the moon pumpkin, dry dabbing glitter paints onto your dark base for sparkling starry night effects. Then brush or sponge white paint in the shape of a crescent moon over your base. Dab on gold or silver glitter paint, the outline your moon with Yellow or Natural Glow Puff Paint. Craft Box Girls also wanted to include an Earth pumpkin in her galaxy mix! To create your own, sponge on a blue paint base for water, then brush or sponge on continents with green paint. Once you have your continents formed, outline them with Green Glow Puff Paint to match! After your painted pumpkins have completely dried, it’s time to get cosmic with your Halloween décor! Don’t forget to display your galaxy pumpkins in a place where they can glow! Set out on your porch to light the night for trick-or-treaters, or somewhere inside for your own little ghouls and goblins to enjoy. Dip Dye Ombre Dress
Graduation season is upon us, and that begs the question ... what is everyone going to wear?! Whether you're the super star grad or the proud parent, relative or friend, dressing up to celebrate is a MUST. Even if you don't have any graduations to attend this year, surely you have a reason to dress up (if not, just make up a reason)! Here's one: An ombre dip-dye dress is reason enough to head out and about ... who doesn't want to be seen looking this fab?! And luckily, this is one tie-dye look you can totally DIY whether you've tie dyed before or not (no folding or binding required). All you need is a natural-fiber dress (like cotton, rayon or silk) and a few bottles of your favorite Tulip Tie Dye color. Check out the video to see how easy it is to make your own high-fashion ombre dip-dye dress for any and every occasion. What you need: - Tulip 1-Color Tie-Dye Kit (3 to 10 bottles depending on your dress and how concentrated you want your dye to be) - Natural-fiber dress (cotton, rayon or silk) - Plastic bin - Plastic surface cover First make sure your dress (or whatever garment you are dyeing) has been washed (without fabric softener). You can leave it damp after washing if preferred for easier initial dye absorption. Fill your plastic bin with enough water to submerge your dress for the lightest dye color. Mix your bottles of dye according to instructions and pour one bottle into the bin with water. Stir to mix. With gloved hands, dip entire dress into bin and make sure it's fully submerged. Let set for a while to absorb the dye, then remove and gently squeeze out excess dye. Place on a plastic surface cover while you mix more dye into the bin. Add another bottle or two of dye to the existing dye in plastic bin to make darker. Hold the dress upright and dip the bottom half into the darker dye mixture. Hang the top half of the dress over the side of the bin to keep from falling into the dye and let set for a while to absorb the darker dye color. When the color has absorbed to your liking, remove the dress and repeat the process of adding more dye to the bin to darken. Repeat dipping the bottom of dress into the darker dye, but only dipping a third of the way. Allow to set and absorb the dye until you are happy with it. Repeat dye mixing/dipping process once more, dipping just the bottom portion of the dress into the bin. Once you are happy with the result, you can do one of two things: you can hang the dress (over a plastic covered area to protect from the dye dripping and staining the ground) and allow the dress to set 6 to 8 hours or overnight; or you can carefully lay the dress on a plastic covered surface and cover it with the excess plastic cover, and allow to set 6 to 8 hours or overnight. Wash in cold water on gentle cycle with a small amount of laundry soap and air dry. Your ombre dip-dye dress is ready to impress!
