Rainbow Tie-Dye Paper Wreath

Rainbow Wreath Tie Dye Project for the Home

Tie dye isn’t just for clothing … did you know you can use it on paper too? In this tutorial, Pink and Posey will show you how to use Tulip One-Step Tie Dye on crepe paper to make your own rainbow wreath. It’s a tie-dye project for the home that’ll add extra summery cheer where ever you choose to hang it! What you need: - Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - German doublette crepe paper – white - Green floral tape - 18-Gauge Kraft-covered wire - 24-Gauge floral wire - Aleene’s® Clear Gel Tacky Glue - Spray bottle filled with water - Tray - Scissors - Skewer To get started on this project for the home, place the crepe paper on a tray (avoid stretching it out) and spritz it with a spray bottle filled with water to dampen it. Mix your dyes according to the instructions, then begin applying dye to the damp crepe paper. Pink and Posey applied her dyes in rainbow order. You can experiment and apply yours however you like, just keep in mind how the colors will look when they blend together. (You’ll want to place them next to other colors they blend nicely with, instead of creating brown or muddy-looking colors.) Spritz the paper with more water as you go along, and continue adding dyes and misting with water to help the dyes run and blend. Once your paper is entirely covered, set out in the sun to dry completely. Remember not to stretch the paper – it’s supposed to be crumpled! Cut the crepe paper into 2.5” wide strips with the wrinkly lines, or along the grain, running across that shorter length. Like a party streamer! Then fold the strip in half widthwise. Keep folding in half until you are left with a rectangle bundle that is about 3” long. Cut all of the folds on both sides to make lots of individual squares. To make the leaves, cut a square diagonally, corner to corner. Then flip one half over and align with the other along the cut edges to make a kite shape. The grains should run downward and away from the center line. Run a line of Clear Gel Tacky along one of the center edges. Press the other half in place on top of the first, aligning all edges. Open the kite shape again, with the glued edges facing downward. Crease it so it stays open. Trim the outside of the kite shape to make it leaf shaped by rounding off the edges and cleaning up the pointed tip. Cut a 24-gauge wire in half. Run a line of Clear Gel Tacky along the underside of the leaf, on one side of the flap. Press the wire into the glue and fold the flap over to secure it. The wire should sit snug against the middle line of the leaf. Use a skewer to help curl the edges of the leaf back to create dimension. Then gently stretch the middle of the leaf to help give it a cupped shape, and press a wire or other narrow tool along the side of the wire without the seam. This will make it look more like a real vein in a leaf. Repeat this process to create all leaves for the wreath. After all leaves with wires have been created, it’s time to start putting this project for the home all together! Arrange the leaves in color order to determine how you want to arrange them for the wreath. Create your wreath frame by circling the Kraft-covered wire to your desired size. Secure with floral tape. Place one leaf over the floral tape on the frame and wrap the wire around the frame to secure. Place the next leaf overlapping the first, but slightly below. Wrap the wire around the frame. Tip from Pink and Posey: To save time, wrap a wire a few times around the frame, then wrap a few more times with the next wire, and on and on. You can also place two leaves at the same time and wrap together. Keep an eye on spacing so that your leaves are evenly spaced around the entire wreath. Once you have all leaves secured to the frame, trim off any excess wire and fluff the leaves. We love how this bright tie-dye rainbow wreath turned out, don’t you? Tulip Products for Graduation

Celebrate Your Grad with Tulip Color Products

Whether you’re attending a graduation ceremony or having an intimate celebration at home, keep your grad, friends & family safe in bright Tulip style! Get inspired to create and personalize fun graduation-themed face masks with these ideas from Beijos Events. What you need: Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice - White 100% cotton Face Masks - Tulip Fabric Markers of choice - Tulip Puff Paints of choice Let’s get started on celebrating your grad! You can gather your grad’s crew for a fun creative activity to prep masks before the ceremony, or save your crafty supplies for entertainment DURING your celebration. Either way, make sure your cotton face masks have been washed (without fabric softener) before you start tie dyeing. Prep your bottles of Tulip One-Step Tie Dye according to instructions. The kiddos can tie dye their masks using a favorite tie-dye technique, or just apply the dyes randomly like the Beijos crew. The best thing about tie dye is there’s no wrong way to do it! After you’re finished tie dyeing, make sure to follow the instructions that come with your kit for letting the dye set and laundering (for best and brightest results). If you’re doing this as an activity during your graduation celebration, we recommend having some sealable plastic bags to place everyone’s project in for easy and mess-free transport home. Your grad & friends can add an extra personal touch to their (washed and dried) face masks with Tulip Fabric Markers. These markers are permanent and washable without heat setting, so they’ll last long after the tassels are turned! Each friend can create their own graduation-themed word, design or phrase on their mask, or even pass their mask around to friends to add a special message. PS. Dimensional Fabric Paints also work great on masks, so you can get those in on the creative fun too! Once the mask-decorating fun is done, it’s time to celebrate! If you’re throwing a sweet little soiree for your grad, you can put your Tulip Color Products to good use for the party too. Simple cloth napkins can double as place cards for each guest with a little help from Tulip Fabric Markers. Turn a wood panel into a sign that says it’s totally time to celebrate with Tulip Dimensional Paints. Use the sign to greet guests, then your grad can save it as a special keepsake to mark this major milestone in their life. This year’s graduation might still be different from previous years, but we think with a little creativity, it can still take the cake! How are you using Tulip Color Products to celebrate your grad this year? Share your creations with us on social by tagging us @tulipcolorcrafts.

Things for Kids to Do Indoors this Winter

7 Things for Kids to Do Indoors this Winter

Winter is on the way (or already here depending on when you’re reading this), which means cold weather and more time hibernating inside. And if you’re looking for things for kids to do while stuck indoors, you’re definitely not alone! Since it’s the holiday season, we’ve put together a roundup of colorful themed crafts for kids to help them stay creative and inspired while on winter break. All of these ideas only require a few supplies, so they’re budget friendly but big on fun! What you need: - Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints - Tulip One-Step Tie Dye - Tulip Fabric Markers It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Window clings are a fun thing for kids to do to show their holiday spirit, whether they tack them up on the fridge or a window facing outside for neighbors to enjoy as they pass by. You only need nontoxic Tulip Dimensional Paints and a clear sheet protector as a nonstick surface to make them. The kids can draw their favorite holiday designs or print designs from online to trace with paint and turn into clings. Such an easy craft with lots of Christmas spirit! Another thing for kids to do – since you already have Dimensional Paints for clings – is to make custom ornaments for your family’s tree! It’s a great way to add an extra personal touch to your décor, and kids will love seeing their colorful ornaments on display. The design options are as limited as their imaginations, so hand them some paint and see what they come up with! The ornaments will make keepsakes for years to come, and are also a great gift idea for their grandparents and other family members and friends. We all get thirsty, so another thing for kids to do is decorate cups or tumblers with names or funny quotes from their favorite Christmas movies. It’s the perfect way for your family to sip on favorite holiday beverages and enjoy some merry & bright cheer! Let their creativity shine with glitter or metallic Dimensional Paints paired with tumblers in holly jolly colors. This craft also makes a fun gift idea; kids can decorate the tumblers and they can be stuffed with tea, hot cocoa or treats for friends and family. Looking for another thing for kids to do? Put some Tulip Fabric Markers in their hand and let them decorate their pillowcases! They’ll get to be the star of their own Christmas show every night when they head to bed for time in a winter wonder dreamland. They can freehand their designs, or place a pattern between the pillowcase and trace over the design, then color in. Tulip Fabric Markers are nontoxic and stay vibrant through machine washings, so your little one’s creativity will stay as bright as Rudolph’s nose this season. Let it snow! This is one thing for kids to do that’s also a fantastic sensory item once the crafting part is done. Plus, who doesn’t love snow globes?! Upcycle baby food jars into glittery holiday goodness with Frosty the Snowman flair. But they don’t have to stick to a snowman snow globe. They can make Santa or his elves, reindeer and more. Customize the jars with Dimensional Paints, construction paper, cardstock or felt; it’s the perfect way to shake things up this winter! Another thing for kids to do is create something they can wear. Making colorful, stackable bracelets is super easy with Dimensional Paints and ribbon. Much like the clings we talked about above, print out holiday-themed patterns, place the ribbons on top, then trace over them with Dimensional Paint. Once they’re dry, these bracelets will be ready to rock (around the Christmas tree)! Decorating shoes is one thing for kids to do that’ll put some pep in their step! They can easily bring an old pair of their shoes back to life with Tulip Dimensional Paints or Fabric Markers. If they’re feeling the holiday spirit, they can decorate their shoes with bright Christmas designs, or make their designs less seasonal if they want to wear their shoes year round. Let them have fun with it for a completely original pair of shoes no one else will be walking around in.

Easy Paper Gingerbread House

Easy Paper Gingerbread House

Does anyone actually eat the gingerbread houses they make? Especially after all of the fun it is to create them! If you're more about displaying your child's hard work than eating it (there's no judgment of course, since we also love eating - especially sweets), this gingerbread house craft is for you. Our friends at Project Kid show you how to make a paper gingerbread house using Aleene's Original Tacky Glue and supplies you likely already have in your craft stash. Get the kids together and have some fun with this easy Christmas craft! What you need: - Aleene's Original Tacky Glue - Square tissue box - Scissors - Cardboard - Cardstock - desired colors + white - Red and white paper straws - Felt - green - Mini pompoms - red and white - Paint pen - white - Cupcake liner - white - Chenille stems - Iridescent glitter - Foam brush To create the main pieces for the house, trace the side of the tissue box onto cardboard and cut out. Repeat to make a second piece. Print template, trace, and cut cardboard sides for the front and the back of the house. Cut a 5 by 8 piece of cardboard for the roof (make sure the corrugation is in the direction of the fold). Glue the four cardboard sides to the box with Tacky Glue, with the front and back opposite one another. Bend the roof piece in half and add glue to the top edges of the front and back pieces. Press the roof piece in place on the top edges. Cut paper straws at an angle and glue them to the side edges of the front of the house. Glue two more to the front edge of the roof. Cut colored cardstock into doors and windows and make a candy window by attaching small segments of a cupcake liner to the sides of a circular window. Make a mini wreath by twisting a green pipe cleaner into a circle. Glue on a small pipe cleaner bow, and glue to the front door. To create a snowy roof, cut a piece of white cardstock to fit the roof, creating "drip shapes" on opposite sides. Use a foam brush to brush an even layer of Tacky Glue onto cardstock and sprinkle with iridescent glitter. Fold in half and glue to the roof. Cut holly leaves from green felt and glue them to the apex of the roof with three mini red pom-poms. Use a white paint pen to draw fun designs onto the house as desired. Look at how cute this paper gingerbread house is! And the best part ... you don't have to toss this house when the season is over. Once you're finished crafting, you can head to the kitchen to whip up a batch of gingerbread cookies to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Painted Flowerpot Fabric Wrap

Painted Flowerpot Fabric Wrap

Since we're on an end of the school year kick, let's talk about teachers. (Wait, don't leave!) Most of us have had a favorite teacher or two, whether it's in the same school year or at different times growing up. Celebrate a teacher who's inspired you (or your child) throughout the school year with a customized gift. Rather than the typical teacher mug present (although those are nice too), why not try something a little different and a lot more fun - especially because you get to make it?! This hand-painted flowerpot fabric wrap is the perfect complement to a plant - what better way to say "thank you" for helping you/your child grow throughout the year?! Grab some Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paint and a fabric swatch and you can have this teacher gift ready in less time than it takes to finish a homework assignment. What you need: - Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paint in colors of choice - White fabric square (large enough to fit around flowerpot) - Terracotta flowerpot - Desired ribbon for creating bow - Paintbrushes First choose your color palette. It's always extra personal if you can find out the teacher's favorite colors, but if not, we know they'll still appreciate it just as much! Cut a fabric swatch large enough to completely wrap around the flowerpot. Load your paintbrush with Glacier White and create brushstrokes of paint in a swirl pattern, starting from the center of the fabric swatch and working your way outward to the edge of the fabric. Continue enhacing your swirl pattern with the other paint colors, working from lightest to darkest shades for best results. Once you are happy with how your swirl design looks, let the paint dry completely. Tip: you can use a blowdryer over the paint to speed up the drying process! Wrap the fabric swatch around the pot and secure with a ribbon. What teacher wouldn't love such a colorful custom gift?!

With just a few supplies like chopped wood pieces, cardboard and a combo of Aleene's True Snow and The Ultimate Multi-Surface Adhesive, your Christmas decorations will be a little more heavenly in no time. Pieces can be rough, as shown here, or rounded. It's totally your preference! Once you have your wood pieces, drill a hole the size of your wood pegs/sticks in the top center. This is where you will place the angel's head. Make sure wood peg/stick is cut to the length you would like the angel's neck to be. Apply The Ultimate Multi-Surface Adhesive to one end of the wood stick/peg. Wait 2 minutes for glue to start curing, then insert into base of foam ball. Apply The Ultimate to other end of peg, let set for 2 minutes then press into drilled hole in wood base. Let dry completely. Using a palette knife or plastic knife, spread True Snow over entire foam ball. Let dry. Draw wings on a piece of cardboard and cut out. Apply True Snow to both sides, letting dry after applying to each side. Once True Snow on wings has dried, apply a line of The Ultimate down the center of wings. Press the wings in place on the backside of the wood piece and let dry. Tip: Dry flat so weight of wood piece helps hold in place until completely dry. Cut greenery to fit around top of head like a halo, then glue in place with The Ultimate. Let dry, then enjoy!

Mexican Sweet Bread Christmas Ornaments with Tacky Glue Bread Dough

Mexican Sweet Bread Christmas Ornaments with Tacky Glue Bread Dough

Did you know that you can make dough from bread? Like literally from a slice of bread!? These Mexican sweet bread inspired Christmas ornaments are super easy to make, starting with a slice of white bread and Aleene's Tacky Glue. You can use these as individual ornaments or you can string them together to make a really fun and colorful festive garland of all of your favorite pan dulce. Let's get started ... What you need: Aleene's Original Tacky Glue Slice of white bread Acrylic paint (for colored clay) Plastic bags Toothpick Gold twine Scissors Remove the crust from the bread. Tear the bread into little pieces. Place the bread inside of a plastic bag. Add a Tablespoon of Aleene's Tacky Glue. Squish the Tacky Glue with the bread inside of the bag to mix it together well. Add a drop of acrylic paint to the bread and glue mixture to give it color. You'll need to mix 4 bags of bread for the yellow base of the concha Mexican sweet bread. And you'll need to mix a second bag of bread dough with pink or brown paint to make the sugar decoration that goes on top on the concha. Once you've completely mixed the bread dough with the paint, it's time to make the Mexican sweet bread inspired ornaments. Create the pan dulce shapes with the bread dough just like regular dough. Roll the dough into a ball. Then flatten into the round, domed concha shape. Make a small ball of the "topping" and flatten. Cut into strips and add them to the top of each concha shape. If you're going to hang the ornaments, then make a small hole at the top with a toothpick. If you're going to string the ornaments together to make a garland, then put a small hole on either side of the sweet breads for the string to go through. Set these aside to dry overnight. Turn them over in the morning so the backs can dry thoroughly for another few hours. Once the ornaments are dry you can hang them on the tree with a piece of gold twine or string them together as a garland with a longer piece of ribbon. Tie the gold twine into a knot on the ends to make a hanger. Hang on your tree and enjoy!

Unique Tacky Glue Dough Ornaments: 5 Ways!

'Tis the season for all things holiday, and that means lots and lots of Christmas ornaments! Ornaments always make great homemade gifts, and they're great crafts to make with adults or children. This simple dough made with Aleene's Tacky Glue and cornstarch is the perfect way to make unique Christmas ornaments that you can customize with cookie cutters, paint and stamps to make them truly your own. What you need: Aleene's Tacky Glue Cornstarch Measuring cups Straw String Cookie cutters Stamps Paint Paintbrushes Step 1: Combine two parts cornstarch and one part Aleene's Tacky Glue (or 1 cup cornstarch with 1/2 cup glue) and mix well for 5+ minutes until a dough forms. If it's too sticky, add more cornstarch, or if it's too dry, add more glue. It should become smooth like a clay. Step 2: Roll a section of dough with your hands and roll flat with a rolling pin until about 1/4 inch thick. Step 3: Cut out shapes with cookie cutters, emboss with stamps, paint the dough while wet or tint the dough with paint in a plastic bag to create unique ornaments like these: Cactus Ornament: Use a cactus cookie cutter to cut the shape out of dough. Paint with green and coat with green glitter. Punny Embossed Ornament: Add dough and paint to a plastic bag and mold until dough is marbled. Use small alphabet stamps to press a punny saying into a circle or oval ornament and paint over the words to bolden. Flamingo Ornament: Use a flamingo cookie cutter to cut the shape out of dough. Paint with pink, white and black paint. Photo Frame Ornament: Cut a large oval out of dough, then cut a smaller oval out of the middle to create a frame. Decorate with any of the above techniques. Then glue a photo to the back of the frame shape with Tacky Glue. Emoji Ornament: Paint a circle ornament to look like your favorite emoji. Step 4: Use the straw to cut a hole in the top of the ornament where it will hang. Step 5: Set dough aside to dry out completely for at least 24 hours. You will use this string to hang your balloon so it can dry. Pour glue into a bowl and a small amount of water. Use the paintbrush to apply glue directly onto the balloon. This helps the string adhered so you can wrap it all around the balloon. Wrap the entire balloon with string and use the paint brush to soak the entire wrapped balloon in the glue. Once the balloon resembles a very messy spider web, hang the balloon up to dry. Repeat this process until you have your desired amount of balloons. Place paper towels or craft paper under the balloons as they will drip. Allow to dry. While the balloons are drying create a template of the monster faces you would like to put on your string lights trace them onto the felt. Cut out the pieces. Once all the string balls are dry, pop the balloons and pull them out through a gap in the string. Use desired ColorShot colors to add color to the string. Let dry. Use Aleene's felt and foam glue to add your monster faces to the string lights. You can add small lights to each one or just string them along some ribbon to create a fun garland. This is the perfect way set your house apart from the rest and it's sure to have all of the trick-or- treaters knocking at your door.
