Painted Denim Clothing Upcycle Idea

Painted Denim Clothing Upcycle Idea

Why buy new clothes when you can make something you already have new again, and be creative at the same time? We’re loving the personalized fashion trends we’ve been seeing lately; it’s such a fun way to dress up in styles that are totally you! This clothing upcycle idea from artist Steffi Lynn shows you just how easy it is to customize your denim with hand-painted designs using Tulip Color Products – without spending a fortune. What you need: - Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints in desired colors - Tulip Fabric Paint Markers - Jeans or other clothing item - Sketch paper and pencil (optional) - Chalk pencil (optional) This clothing upcycle idea focuses on decorating the pockets of jeans, but you can use these same ideas and techniques on other areas of your jeans, or different clothing as well! You’ll need Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints and Tulip Fabric Paint Markers for this project. Fabric Paint Markers are more opaque than regular fabric markers, so your designs will really pop on your jeans! Before getting started, make sure your jeans have been washed and dried without fabric softener. (Softener can prevent the paints and markers from properly bonding to the fabric.) Steffi Lynn recommends sketching out your designs first to see what you like before starting on your jeans. Decide which parts of your designs you’d like “flat” (Fabric Paint Markers) and which parts you want to be dimensional (Dimensional Paints). Tip: If you’re not feeling confident about creating your designs on your jeans, you can use a chalk pencil to first sketch them onto the fabric. If you mess up, you can easily wipe the chalk away with a damp cloth and start over. When you are happy with your designs, you can trace over them with Fabric Paint Markers or Dimensional Paints. Start with the “flat” designs using your Fabric Paint Markers before creating your dimensional designs. Next use your Dimensional Paints to create dimension on your marker designs, and add any extra details that you like! Once you’re happy with your work, let your jeans dry flat until everything has completely dried. (Wait at least 72 hours before washing.) Now it’s time to show off your artistic skills with denim that pops with color and creativity! Wasn’t this an easy clothing upcycle idea? It’s a great way to make something new again, or even cover old stains or discoloring on clothing. What else are you thinking of personalizing with Tulip products? Tulip Painted Floral Denim Jacket

Painted Floral Denim Jacket Tutorial

A denim jacket is one of those items of clothing we can pretty much wear year round (thank goodness)! From cool summer evenings to sunny autumn days, you can never go wrong when you add a denim jacket to your outfit. Mikyla Creates gave her simple jacket a makeover by painting on quote art and pretty florals using Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paints and Fabric Paintbrushes, and we love how it turned out! What a fun way to spread some extra cheer as you're standing in line at the store or leaving a restaurant. Check out Mikyla's painting tips and try updating your denim jacket with a design that inspires you! What you need: - Tulip Brush-On Fabric Paints - desired colors - Paintbrushes - Denim jacket - Quote art pattern - Projector (optional) or scissors/chalk pencil - Paint palette Before painting, make sure your jacket is clean and ironed smooth. If you don't have an actual paint palette, don't stress! A paper plate or even a piece of foil will work. You just want something you can pour and mix paints on. To transfer her design onto the back of her jacket, Mikyla used a projector, but you can absolutely do this project without one. If you aren't using a projector, simply cut out your quote art + flowers design and use a chalk pencil to trace around them on your jacket. If you decide to use a projector, hang your jacket and you can use tacks to keep the fabric taught and smooth while you paint. Whether you've traced your design in chalk or you're using a projector, brush your desired color onto the quote art. Let dry and add another coat if needed. Before painting your flowers, Mikyla recommends using this brush for mixing your paint colors. First mix your paint! Mikyla made four shades of pink and two shades of green. For the pink she mixed in a little orange to give it a peachy shade. For the green she mixed in a little bit of brown for a more muted look. Use this brush from your pack to paint the tiny flowers. Start with your tiny outer flowers and buds by making little dots and ovals in different shades of pink. Create them on either side of where your focal flower will go. Once you have your small surrounding flowers done, start on your larger center flower. Paint the petals in different shades to show dimension – darker in back, lighter in front. Use your darkest shade of pink for the center. Go back over all of your flowers and add little strokes of white and dark pink. Mikyla's tip: don't stress too much about where you add these paint strokes - it just adds dimension and makes you look like a pro! Use this brush from your pack to paint in the leaves. Paint two larger leaves on the right side of your main flower - dark in back, light in front. Then add little branches sticking out around your flower in various shades of green. Mikyla's tip: just paint one long line, with little lines extending off of it. Add shading to your leaves as desired. Use your smallest brush to paint stems from your focal flower out to your tiny outer flowers. Finish your flower design by adding small dots of paint all around the design. Mikyla's tip: it adds the illusion of extra detail. Try adding your dots in groups of three! Repeat these steps to create another floral design underneath your quote. When you've finished painting your design, let it dry completely before wearing. You'll always have a nice day when wearing such a cute painted denim jacket! Let your style bloom with creativity this year!

Tulip ColorShot Fabric Spray Paint Tuxedo Jeans

DIY Tuxedo Jeans with Fabric Spray Paint

Tuxedo pants are one of those wardrobe staples that just never get old. They're always in style, they go with anything, and they're guaranteed to look cute everywhere you go. This pair of tuxedo jeans from Pretty Life Girls is a more casual variation that looks just as fantastic, don't you think? Perfect for Friday at the office or an afternoon at the movies, these tuxedo jeans are a super easy upcycle idea using an old pair of jeans you already have, Tulip® ColorShot Instant Fabric Color and strips of masking tape. Read on for the simple tutorial! What you need: - Tulip ColorShot Instant Fabric Color - Jeans - Masking tape - Protective plastic - Disposable plastic surface cover Make sure your jeans are clean and dry before painting (without fabric softener for best results). Cover your work surface with a disposable plastic table cover to protect from any accidental overspray. To create your tuxedo stripes, fold the jeans in half lengthwise so your side seam is facing upward. Run strips of masking tape down the entire length of the leg, leaving about an inch of space in between the tape strips. Flip over and repeat on other leg. Cover the exposed sides of the jeans with protective plastic, heavy paper or paper towels to protect from overspray, then spray several light coats of ColorShot onto the jeans in between the strips of tape. Let dry between coats, and repeat until you are happy with the coverage. Remove the tape and repeat for the other leg. Let dry completely. And that's it! You can have yourself a set of tuxedo jeans in a quick afternoon with a little help from ColorShot!

Lace Jeans DIY

Lace Jeans DIY

Luckily for some of us, the ripped jeans trend is still a thing! Over time and with washing and wear and tear, however, those rips can get bigger and bigger and end up not being so wearable anymore. One fab solution we're big fans of is adding some lace! Reinforcing your ripped jeans with swatches of lace helps keep the tears from expanding and it's a super cute way to customize your look without spending much at all. Just grab a tube of Aleene's Super Fabric Adhesive, a few swatches of lace and you're ready to rock your own no-sew lace jeans! What you need: - Aleene's Super Fabric Adhesive - Ripped jeans - Lace swatches - Scissors - Cardboard or heavy cardstock/paper Trim away loose fringe from around holes in jeans. Turn jeans inside out. Trim cardboard or heavy cardstock to fit inside each leg to prevent glue from soaking through to backside. Trim lace swatch to fit over tears. You can either use one large panel or cut lace to fit over each hole. Make sure the lace is larger than the tears. Use Super Fabric Adhesive to glue lace around tears. Let dry completely, then remove cardboard from inside jean legs and turn right side out. Make sure to wait at least 3 days before washing to let the glue fully cure. Take your newly upcycled lace jeans out for some fun!

How To Splatter Paint Jeans

How To Splatter Paint Jeans

Splattering paint on a pair of jeans might seem like it's a little nerve wracking, but with this fool-proof tutorial, there is really no way to mess up. And the end result is a pair of super chic splatter paint jeans! What you need: -Tulip Soft Fabric Paint in a variety of colors-Jeans-Paintbrushes Start by splattering your first color of Tulip Soft Fabric Paint onto the jeans. Use your fingers to smudge some of the paint to give a smeared effect. You can also use a paintbrush or sponge brush to apply some of the paint colors onto the pants for a variated look. Let sit at least 2 minutes before applying the next color. And if you really want to commit to this project, stick your fingers into the next color and have fun splattering away! This gives the splatters a different look than the brush splatters, and it’s also really fun. Feel free to use your fingers to smudge some of the paint and blend it together with the other colors. I like to switch up my splattering methods for a variety of looks. So I used the sponge to try and splatter the orange paint, but I kept the use of orange very light because I didn't want to muddy the paint. You'll have to be the judge of how much of a certain color you add to your jeans based on the colors you are using. Continue with splattering another color of paint to your liking. Finish the look by splattering White Soft Paint all over as an accent if you like. Let dry completely and wait at least 72 hours before washing. Voila!
